5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Fun for our Toddler
Our boy Alex loves this book, even at a year and a half old. He frequently picks it out of a stack of books and brings it to us to read to him. We spend a lot of time on each page so that he can find the snake's head. The pictures are beautifully colored and filled with lots of curious details. It is one of the few books that keep him so interested that he often wants us to go through it several times each sitting. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book with beautiful art work
Easy enough for the youngest children, this book also provides a nice challenge for older toddlers and preschoolers to find where the snake is hiding. The rhymes make it easy to read and are good practice for little ears. The artwork is interesting and quite detailed. My son, now 3, has had his copy since he was a baby and still loves it.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this Book!
Hi...my name is taylor I am 7 years old and going into 1st grade. This is by far the best book that I have ever read in my entire life. I highly recommend this book to children around the world.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not that interesting but my daughter loves it
This is a pretty book with nice illustrations and short, easy rhymes. I don't think it's that interesting but when I returned a copy to the library I noticed that my 16 month-old daughter kept asking for the "snake" book so I'm going to buy a copy. The illustrations have very similar colors on every page so I think it's a little difficult for kids under two to pick out what's pictured, but as I said, my daughter likes it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My Special Friend
I Wanna Iguana brings out warm feelings in anyone who reads the book, be that person child or adult. Ostensibly it's about loving and caring for an unusual pet. But I believe it carries a deeper message--that we personally grow from accepting anything or any human different from ourselves. Read this great picture book, and I know you'll agree.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful memories!
Oh, I LOVE this book! It is from the 50's, and SO well written! Instead of dumbing children down, it uses words that are more sophisticated. The story is hilarious! It uses pen and ink type drawings, which brought back so many pleasant memories! As a child, I didn't remember the story too well, but the pictures stayed in my mind, particularly the one of Crictor in what looks like a 10-foot long bed and wearing a 10-foot long armless sweater!!

This elderly lady receives a gift of a snake from her son in Africa. She is a teacher and brings Crictor to school, where he becomes a jump rope and slide for the kids. He also forms letters and numbers. He captures a burglar and the locals name a park after him!

One of my favorite books of all time!

5-0 out of 5 stars An old-fashioned, wonderfully charming children's book
This was one of my favorite books growing up--I must have checked it out of the school library a dozen times. It's the adorable story of an old French woman who relies on a friendly boa to see her around Paris. Not only does it teach children not to judge other people -- or reptiles -- but the charming illustrations offer fun glimpses into the city of Paris. If you loved Madeline, you'll love this book. Buy one copy for your kids and one for yourself! ... Read more

Slither into DK's Snake and you'll find yourself tantalized. Or is that terrorized? Either way, snake aficionados, and those looking to increase their appreciation of snakes, should not miss this gorgeous, full-color guide to the legless reptiles. Chris Mattison, a herpetologist and wildlife photographer, has gathered a concise compendium of facts, myths, and unbelievable images, with familiar as well as little-known species highlighted. While not zoologically comprehensive, Snake does provide a good sense of the diversity of these lovely and misunderstood animals. From the intricate patterns of the harmless checkered garter snake to the sheer magnificence of the deadly, 11.5-foot-long black mamba, each snake is presented with its best scale forward. Snake is full of great herpetological trivia, and the photos are sharply detailed close-ups. --Therese Littleton ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful beginning book
This is a stunningly visual book with fantastic general information on snakes.I have a number of books by Chris Mattison, and this is his best!Well worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very educational
I'm a college student and I work in a Science Center with several snakes from Texas; I'm always interested in learing more about snakes in the world. This book is amazing! It covers all topics related to snake's evolution, envirnoment, size and shape, scales, anatomy and movement, reproduction, classification of snakes, among other contents! With a gallery of beautiful and large pictures of these fenomenal creatures; the only problem is that it covers only 61 species that were chosen to be in the gallery to show readers the diversity of size, color, shape, and behavior, that is excellent! But I would've liked to see more variety of snakes. As a conclusion, this book is a MUST for people interested in learning more about snakes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Snake Book !!
This book probably the BEST snake book I owned. Large of photo (I mean: really BIG photo!!, double pages). This book give you a very comprehensive section about the anatomy, how they hunt, habitats, and senses ...
It written in a very short informative way ....
I really love this book !! This book is "A MUST" for all snake lovers ...

5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning!
This is a wonderful book, full of captivating pictures and beautifully written explanatory chapters. A serpent enthusiast myself, I have thoroughly enjoyed this book. Its excellent visuals guide you through the first few chapters which discuss several aspects of snakes themselves. The majority of the rest of the book looks at many different types of snakes..a page or two devoted to a certain individual species. I was impressed at the variety it covered, from boas to pythons to colubreds to venomous species. I applaud the author...this book will entertain beginners to professionals. This is a must for anyone who is interested in these amazing legless creatures.
--Lauren

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for everyone
This book starts out by giving a very comprehensive section about the anatomy, hunting, evolution, habitats, and senses of the snake. Each of these topics were given two pages, of which were filled with interestinginformation. I keep snakes, but I still found myself learning things. Afterthis, the book goes into a section that tells about many interestingspecies of snakes in a great format including color pictures. While thebook doesn't feature as many species as I would have liked to have seen, the ones it does show are well chosen(for the most part). After thissection, the book goes into a huge directory of genuses and species ofalmost all the snakes in the world(including some rare subspecies). Thissection of the book is invaluable for a herpitoligest or just someonelooking up the latin name of a snake. Overall the book is great for averageperson and person who knows alot about snakes alike. I think the book couldhave been better if he had featured more species of snakes, but the book isfine as it is. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Food Obsessed
The Greedy Python and The Very Hungry Caterpillar are my least favorite of the books Carle has illustrated. They are both food obsessed and give mixed messages about over-eating. A great Carle book is Have You Seen My Cat.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute for all ages
I have 3 children, ages 5, 3 & 1. My two oldest think The Greedy Python is a funny book. The illustrations are awesome- as all of Eric Carle's work is. The story teaches a good lesson in selfishness and greediness. The greedy python is eating everything in sight and even after getting too full to hold anymore he sees one last thing to eat. He winds up gulping down his tail and eventually disappearing. It's a really good lesson for all children to learn. It's also easy reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginning readers!
Beginning reader in our house really likes this book as he uses the illistrations to "cue" him into the words. There are many subject areas that can be explored as a result of the book, reading, math, science...For an older child who is slower learning to read, this is excellent as there are multisyllable words and a 'story line' that holds their interest.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good beginning to a "sharing" curriculum for pre schoolers.
A good book to begin an entire curriculum of sharing for the preschooler. Adding the song "I'm being swallowed by a boa constrictor" and acting out the song brings this book to life. The rhyming and bright colors of an Eric Carle book always brings a smile to the class and the teacher. ... Read more
