3-0 out of 5 stars So life-like!
This coloring book has some beautiful pictures and the life-like images are wonderful to look at. The information that's written alongside the pictures is very helpful. But the best part are the pictures-the ones that you can color as well as the coloring keys. If I didn't know any better, I would think that the animals depicted were actually real! ... Read more

Book Description

Poems in contemplation of an ecological treasure.

"When you stand in this place, wild and vast and stark, looking out over the endless and shining skin of the sea, you hear the flutter and roar of Creation, feel the stir of your own beginnings upon the delicate chain of life. Here, you are at the core of the mystery and poetry of Nature." So writes Tony Johnston, who visited the Galapagos Islands in 1995, in her eloquent author's note. This is her collection of thirty-four lyrical poems starring the wonderful islands and their unique inhabitants -- from the long-horned grasshopper to the rice rat -- and accompanied by naturalistic drawings by Tom Pohrt.

5-0 out of 5 stars Maurice at Ashley River El. School
The Frog Alphabet Book, was a good book because it's educational and has good illustrations. I also liked the book because I learned about amphibians I've never heard of before and the ullustrations were unique. My favorite illustration in the book was the picture of the Red-eyed tree frog. I like this picture because it's colorfull and I think Ralph Masiello did a good job.

The Frog Alphabet Book is great. I give it five good stars. I think Jerry Pallotta and Ralph Masiello did a great job. He is my favorite artist. He can paint better than me.

4-0 out of 5 stars really an amphibian book more than a frog book
This is a wonderful book! I checked it out of the library because my son (2 1/2) is obsessed with frogs, and he loves it. It is on the long side, and I'm not sure I would recommend it for kids just learning their alphabet, but it does have soem good information in it. My only actual complaint about the book is that I'm not fond of some of the comments that are meant to be light-hearted, but that's my personal taste more than anything.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ribbit!! Ribbit!! Meet the frogs and amphibians!!
Learning the alphabet can be a tedious chore. Thankfully, Mr. Pallotta and Mr. Masiello have made it sooo much easier with their work, "The Frog Alphabet Book"!!

Each page is beautifully illustrated with very realistic pictures of frogs, salamanders, newts and other amphibians in their natural habitat. One could easily use the book for a field guide if one could go to all the exotic places these fascinating creatures live. There's the Fire-bellied Toad, who looks as if it's wearing nail polish. There's the strange looking Olm, which is a blind salamander that lives in dark caves. There's the Japanese Giant Salamander, which seems to be as big as a young man, and on and on through the 26 letters of the alphabet.

The text is brief but informative as it tells a bit about each frog and where it comes from and the back page has a little extra information about three types of amphibians (did you even know there WERE three types?? Surprise!!)

Though the title is a bit misleading-there are over 10 amphibians that are not frogs, including tadpoles and the Undiscovered Frog (species that no doubt exist but have not been found yet)-it is a beautiful book and a fine addition to any classroom or home. Even children and students who are very well versed with the alphabet will enjoy reading this book for it's fine, colorful and sometimes strange-looking creatures that breathe both air and water.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shannon at Ashley River El.
I really like The Frog Alphabet Book.I think the book is for children of all ages. You might think this book is just for little kids, but it's not. It's a great study guide. The book also includes my favorite frog, the Poison Dart frog. TUSAhe book and the illustrations are really creative. Try reading it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Legare the Low Country Lizard
A charming story that has delighted my children for years. We also have another Legare book which is equally loved. The illustrations are wonderful, the rhymes are catchy, and there is even a message about the value of friendship from Tradd the Tree Frog ("You don't need a tail to be my friend Legare!"). Small footnoted text on each page provides some informative background on Charleston, the setting for this story. I highly recommend this book for children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinated By Frogs.
Over the past several years, I have learned a lot about frogs. However, I have a lot more to learn. POISON DART FROGS has helped me in my quest for knowledge about frogs. The book is full of information and brilliantly penciled drawings. The book discusses such things as where the frogs poison comes from, how hunters gather the poison, how the frogs are born, and how they mate. A great book for any young person interested in nature or for anyone who loves frogs. ... Read more

This is a really lovely book. Recently, for my 7-year-old daughter's Cloverbud (4H) group, we fished for tadpoles from a local pond so each of us could watch them grow at home. We read this book first. It has beautiful drawings and is both clear and interesting. My daughter and I have seen a lot of books about frogs, but this is the first that got my daughter really excited about them. ... Read more
