Colourful and helpful
This Advanced Level Physics book is one of the best I have seen. The book is divided into 7 themes (Mechanics, Materials, Fields, Waves, Electricity, Inside the Atom and Physics in Medicine). The physical concepts as well as the formulas involved are explained in plain text as well as on clearly labelled diagrams.
I did the IB using this book and I found it highly relevant to the course, as it explained the syllabus and the options in great detail, and very comprehensively.
Moreover, there is a variety of practice questions from previous examinations at the back of each chapter, which vary in difficulty.
All in all I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to obtain a top grade in a Physics course equivalent to A-level Physics.

Wonderful Story
This is one of the stories in our P.K. Hallinan "A Rainbow Of Friends" children's collection book. We love them all, but I especially like this story because it encourages reading in a playful way. I think the idea of reading "taking you away" is totally lost on my toddler but he loves the colorful illustrations and I love the message. I recommend the collection of P.K. Hallinan's stories because it includes: "A Rainbow of Friends", "For the Love of Our Earth", "I'm Thankful Each Day", and my son's favorite "When I Grow Up". Good Coverage of Fire Apperatus.
I am a volunteer in public education for a large fire department and am always looking for books to read to children. This book has a very interesting approach. Real full color pictures of a class trip to the fire station are used to illustrate the story. This book thoroughly covers the fire department, including the dispatch center. Great! May be the best kids book series!
We've got all but one of the "It's OK!" books and every time I reread one (which is often - our son loves the books!) I'm more impressed. Tom and Ally seem real because of their insecurities, and seeing them go through nerve-racking situations helps our kids prepare for the real thing in life.
The art is great as well!
I wished the team that made these books would produce some more.

Belongs in every middle school backpack!
Colleges of every type -- from barber colleges to major research universities -- lie at the center of our society's life. They are places of great fun, seriousness, and success. This superb book makes plain to middle schoolers that in a few short years they too will be able to be on campus. "The First Look at College" performs the neat trick of taking the mystery out of going to college while making the prospect even more exciting. Yet, the almanac is not another example of denying our youngsters their childhood, like entrance exams for kindergarten. Instead, by writing directly to the kids and not writing down to them, Greenfeld shows that 14-year-olds in almost every circumstance and from every background ought to be planning for some learning after high school graduation. Organized in page-size chunks, the book steps readers through thinking about careers and showing the panoply of colleges available and then unpacking the application process. Financial aid, sports, fraternities and sororities, study tips, and a neat list of college urls all get their due. A busy junior high counselor who has a shelf of these books can perform some valuable intervention simply by pressing the "Kids' College Almanac" into student hands.

Wonderful for Parents, Too!
This terrific book is a great resource for parents, too! Even though my husband and I both went to college, so much has changed. This book provides a wonderful overview in a very engaging format. It greatly simplifies what is otherwise daunting. The authors were very clever in their choice of format - it really is designed just the way most kids will intially use it; all the interesting facts do capture their interest and their parents, too. It's one of those books that anyone who's been through the college application process - whether parent or student - has to pick up and say, "I wished I had that back then!"

Now I'm Ready!
Even though I won't be attending college until the year 2003 this book tells me a lot of things I need to know or should know before going to college. there were Some things about college that i didn't know until reading this book!

Outstanding Resource
The Kids' College Almanac is an outstanding and essential resource for any child thinking about college and his/her parents. As the mother of children in both middle and high school, I found that this book covered every imaginable topic related to college decision-making that my children and I need to know. From discussing how to select what colleges to apply to and what is involved in the application process to explaining how to pay for college costs and what to expect once classes begin, this book provides important information to the college-bound student in a clear and easily-read format. My children and I have also enjoyed reading the interesting charts and tables and notable facts scattered throughout the book. I especially like the fact that the book can be opened at any page and enjoyed. I also appreciate the very positive and motivating tone that the authors use throughout the book, which makes any reader feel that if they want to go to college, they can!

Excellent Tool For Kids & College
The Kids' College Almanac is an excellent tool for both children and the parents of children thinking about college. The book's text, an enjoyable read for both young and old, is direct, accurate and easy to read. Horribly overpriced. Buyer beware.
Never before, in years of purchases at Amazon, have I ever actually returned an item until I purchased this book (and its companion). ($$$)dollars is WAY too much to charge. I bought this for my 10 year old son, but the content is skimpy and mostly drawings. There is at most a paragraph or two on a page, with huge text and lots of white space. This is more like an essay paper than a book. Thanks but no thanks...I'll take my ($$$) back! ... Read more

Book has a few errors
I bought this book for my daughter to study for the HSPT. The book did not include the graphs and figures necessary to solve the problems. The book also has poor explanations, leaving my daughter baffled.

Don't use this book- Errors!!!
My son was only in the first chapter of this book and found two significant Math errors. I feel that is unacceptable, especially in a review book, which a child is likely to do on his/her own, and will need to rely on the answers in the book rather than having a teacher available to correct any errors.

Great Preparation
I used this for preparation for a Catholic School entrance exam, and it was wonderful. The exam that I got was identical in format and although the exact numbers and subjects used in the actual test were different, the basic type of questions were the same as on the test. I highly reccomend this, or the most recent one for you. Good Luck!

Less than perfect
I bought "Master the Catholic High School Entrance Exams - 2002" for my 8th grader.

I have found an average 1% error rate in the two HSPT exams - totally unacceptable. I expect zero defects in a book like this - not a good example to set to young people.
