Book Description

This latest offering in the best-selling Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul series explores a host of challenges faced by today's teens. Within its pages teens will find portraits of life's complexities expressed from the viewpoint of their peers. Teen contributors share their thoughts and feelings on difficult issues, ranging from poor self-image to thoughts of suicide, from family discord to coping with the loss, from peer pressure to school violence.

Teens ranked stress as one of their top concerns (along with child abuse and STDs). Oftentimes, the pressure can feel overwhelming, whether they involve worrying about an upcoming test, competition sports, family responsibilities, dating, or more extreme issues such as depression, suicide and school violence.

The first three volumes of the Teenage Soul series and the companion journal illustrate the ongoing popularity of this series (unit sales exceed 11 million). Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul on Tough Stuff and the Spring 2001 release Teenage Soul Letters will undoubtedly follow suit as the next best-sellers in a phenomenally popular series.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Love the new Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul!
Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul on Tough Stuff was a book I feel all teenagers and for that matter adults should read. It really touched me. At times I cried, and at times I laughed. This book really touched home. It reminded me that no matter how bad my day was, there is someone that has gone through the same thing and maybe worse things that same day. I have all the Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul books and this is my favorite.

I hope others can recieve that same joy I recieved from it. This book like the others will serve as a devotional for me. Each story has some meaning or lesson that will touch home.

5-0 out of 5 stars How it helped me!

It makes people realize how good their life really is, and also how bad it could be. I would recommend this book to anyone, no matter what types of books they liked.

I used to weave carpets from five o'clock in the morning until ten o'clock at night." The speaker is Kanta, a Nepalese child who worked as a virtual slave to carpet factory owners. When Kanta and her friends accept a Rugmark inspector's offer to go to school, their lives change radically. One result is this poignant collection of poems, drawings, and stories by the children that describe their fear of change, the loneliness of attending a new school, and the joy of having food, water, playtime, and a chance to dream. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must for all who have ever wanted to be in student gov.
If you've ever wanted to be a student leader this book is essential not only for motivation but also for great little ideas you might not think up on your own. This book is not only clear and organized it is helpful beyond words. Since it was written with real advice from real student leaders it is completely true and very useful. The advice and stories included in this book helped me decide to run and eventually win my high school election. Now I'm the Junior Class President.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped a loser become a winner
This book is awesome! I had lost four elections for class president (5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th) so during my Freshman year I was reluctant. This book gave me the confidence and knowledge I needed to win, and win BIG! I have been elected two years in a row since reading this book and am expected to win the election for Junior Class President....

5-0 out of 5 stars It Can and Will Happen to You!
I'm sure you have that little voice inside your head Right now saying should I buy it? Or shouldnt I? Theres no way im going to win, I'm not even popular. If thats you, you definetly should buy, How To Win a Highschool Election by Jeff Marx.In this book, you get over 1,000 ideas on what and what not to do from students just like you and me who have won thier Highschool elections...

3-0 out of 5 stars no book will win you an election
This is a good book, it gives you a lot of ideas, and ways to make a great campaign. but don't get suckered, this book, and no book will win a election for you! I am the Student Council President, but i didn't win the election because of this book, although it helped. Consider this book as a friend, and not as a GUIDE.
The good thing about this book, is that it has many suggestions, but the bad thing is that if you think about it, there are just 100 suggestions, because each suggestion is written over, and over again, but with different words. But 100 ideas can be really helpful if you have no idea on how to start a high school campaign.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very useful indeed
This book, while seemingly inappropriate for someone in my position (I'm running as an MP in the UK election) has many, many parallels. Making friends, pressing the flesh, wearing sexy cheerleader outfits. These will be factors, I hope, that my rivals will overlook. Victory is assured. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than I had expected!
This book was picked up on a whim as a graduation gift and I was pleasantly surprised at the depth of insight this book relays while not being preach-y. The book is written by a high school teacher and parent who undertands the pressures young adults have encountered when going away to college. When you read this book you truly get the feeling that he wants to help the reader make good choices. Morality issues are addressed in text and cartoon and the points are made without turning off the reader. Of course there are plenty of practical issues addressed such as "What should I bring to college?" to make it very worthwhile just for that reassurance. As a bonus the student also gets encouragement to make good decisions and to avoid the bad ones. Where was this book 20+ years ago when I went away to college? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great way for the kids to see how others homeschool
My son is 8 and so is the main girl in this book, so I think he could relate. Both my children liked this book, and I thought it was worth buying ...
On the parent's side, the amount of things this family gets done in one day was a little intimidating! But it was a good, positive read for the kids.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not my kind of homeschooling
The author and photographer do a good job of capturingAllison's day in a warm and human way. However, I would not recommendthis book as an introduction to homeschooling because I have philosophical disagreements with the approach Allison's parents use. The family uses a "school at home" approach complete with tedious homework, regular testing, and pressure to work. The parents stay up late into the night developing lessons, planning curriculum, and assessing their daughters' progress. And the mother has a masters degree in education! While that's not a bad thing, overall this book could give the impression that homeschooling can only work for highly educated superparents. I prefer I am a Home Schooler by Julie Voetberg which to me sets a more appealing and approachable example of homeschooling. ... Read more
