5-0 out of 5 stars I Loved Abby Being in This Book!
I was really excited when I saw this book because Abby was FINALLY in one of the FF books. I also want to know whats up with Jessi?

Anyways, Kristy and Abby are on the debate team and are traveling to Washington D.C. for a competition. They are both signed up in the beginner level and Kristy gets assigned to a team with someone name Kai and David. Kristy tells David that he looks exactly like Terry Hoyt, and he acts all nervous... Then David disappears...........

5-0 out of 5 stars A book that will keep you reading and reading!
This book was humongously good. In fact, I think this is the best Kristy book so far in the BSC Friends Forever series. A great job you're doing, Ms. Martin, and keep up the good work!

When Kristy and her friends went down to Washington, D.C., on a school trip, they expected to see some famous sites. But they never imagined they would be caught up in a big and dangerous mystery involving secret identities, dark revenge, and a suprise kidnapping attempt. Kristy is one of the only witnesses who could put the kidnapper behind bars. Can she stop him in time? Read this book and find out!

4-0 out of 5 stars Kristy's in terrible danger...
In "Kristy and the Kidnapper", Kristy encounters a dangerous situation while on a school debate trip in D.C. One of her classmates nearly gets upducted, and Kristy is the only witness...

I enjoyed this book although I like the more down to earth Friends Forever storylines better. This one was a bit much, but I did enjoy the change of pace...none of the other Friends Forever teens were in the story. Their names are only mentioned once or twice, and that was refreshing and different.

Overall this book was all right, but it isn't as great as the previous books in the series. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars I luv it! (Even though I'm too young to read this) :)
I luv this book alot! The reason I gave 4 stars was that spoiled brat Jade. I can't stand her! I don't think Jade and Jeremy are together. Jess and Jeremy are together b/c they're sensitive so they can relate to each other. I think Jade is good for Evan Plummer, though. Think about it! If you read SVH, SVJH, SVU, SVT (Well, not really.) and other series I read, it's all about romance. Who's together and who's not and well... Ok, so about Will and Liss, I think Melissa is too much of a prissy. She's a follower, too; always following Will like a puppy dog. Will is SSSSSOOOOO stupid! He's a liar, too. I think Will is too absent-minded. And his football scholarship is taken away b/c of a knee injury and he deserves it b/c all he cares is about football and his grades stinx. Ken takes Will's place and I think Ken is good for Maria.

Sorry for the babbling about only Will, Liss, and Ken. There were more characters, Andy tells Conner he's gay and is laughed at. I don't think Tee was in it much but she should get over Conner like he's in luv w/HER. I always end up the topic away and babble. ;)

4-0 out of 5 stars Melissa gets what she deserves...
I really liked this book a lot. Melissa's bad karma comes back to her- big time. I'm glad something bad finally happened to her because she was so mean to all the other characters. Will also gets what he deserves when he hurts his knee. I'm not going to tell you exactly what happened because I hate when people spoil the end. I also feel bad for Andy and Liz. Conner might turn out to be an alcoholic like his mom. I guess we'll have to see...

5-0 out of 5 stars Book #20 in SVH Senior Year Series
In "Nothing Is Forever," Will Simmons and Melissa Fox are still in seventh heaven over Will's scholarship at the University of Michigan, while Ken Matthews is just the opposite. He's jealous of Will's success, and completely crushed by his father's blatant disappointment in him. I never paid a lot of attention to Ken's storyline before, but I could really empathize with him in this book.

Next up, Jeremy Aames wants to quit at House of Java for obvious reasons--both his exes work there. But Jessica Wakefield is trying to get Jade Wu fired instead. Finally!

Andy Marsden reemerges from the shadows and outs himself to Conner McDermott, but without the reaction he thought he'd get. And Conner...well, nothing much has changed there. He's still stumbling around drunk, as usual.

This was a good SVHSY book, but it certainly wasn't exceptional. Nothing really new or dramatic happened, and the ending wasn't a big surprise either, considering the book title and foreshadowing on page 92. Still, worth a "5" for the writing.

5-0 out of 5 stars GOOD
I rate all SVSY books 5 stars becuz they're all really good even if there are some better than others. I cannot stand Conner in this book. He's angry with his mother for actually being there for him when that's what he's wanted all his life. I mean, he saw the effects of alcohol on her and hated it and now he's turning into an alcoholic. And why is he drinking anyways? He got back together with Liz and he even told her he loved her and she said the same to him. And now he's chewing her out when she tries to help him. He thinks the world sucks when it's just him. Also, Ken's dad is sooo mean. He literally told him he was a loser. But I was really happy for Ken when he got to play in the football game. And I was really glad when he leveled his dad with a cold stare when his dad was suddenly proud of him. I couldn't believe I actually felt sorry for Will and Melissa when he got injured, but I was. And Jess and Jeremy belong together. But I think she sorta did deserve the dissing he gave her when she took him to the beach to prove Jade was cheatin on him, but I guess that was in the last book. I'm glad Jess is firing Jade who, by the way, I've never liked. She's too sarcastic and, I mean, if she still actually thinks cheating on Jeremy was okay (which she does) then she has some serious problems. I was really glad Jeremy made up with Jess and I really don't want him to quit either. And why is everybody just throwing the whole Andy/gay issue aside. It's like he just told them and they were like "Good for you, now back to my problem". Okay, maybe not quite that rude, but still. Overall, this wasn't the best book but it was good.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but dissapointed by the outcome
This book was really good but before i bought it i read the back and I thoght there was gonna be this whole breakup thing with Will and Melissa but there was nothing!! Actully something REALLY big happens to Will but no breakup. This wasnt one of my favorites in the series but you have to read it to know whats going on. I do believe that besides the whole Melissa Will thing everything is good. You should still get the book though. Conner and Liz are having problems again and Maria is trying to help Ken out with all his "dad" problems and Ken gets his big break!! I was exited for him!! Tia is the same but something big happens to Andy. I felt so bad for him!! Get this book but dont expect a lot from the Melissa and Will ending. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another fine job by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
A book that continues the series of Alice McKinley. Her fear of swimming in deep water takes its toll over the summer-Will her friends find out? Excuses can only work for a little while, then what will she do? Read to find the conclusion to this great book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book For Everyone!
Alice is back in one of the best books that Phyllis Reynolds Naylor has written! Alice gets trapped when some boys and girls were hanging out at Mark's pool. Alice can't swim in deep water. So when Mark and the other boys try and fool around, Alice gets in trouble, and she needs to learn how to swim! This is a great book that I recommend to everyone that likes to read funny stories.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad
This ALICE book was, frankly, a little disappointing. I love ALICE books but... I feel that this book wasn't as good as Phyllis Reynolds Naylor has written in the past. For other readers' information, this book is mainly about how Alice wants to fit in with her group of friends by hanging out at the pool with them. She hopes that they don't find out the truth, which is that she really can't swim. She gets embarrased because she was pushed in the pool by a friend but panics. Her brother teaches her to swim and everything works out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great
I thought this book was real great! But sometimes Alice can get a bit annoying because she's always butting into her dad's life. But I liked the Alice series because it's very realistic. Girls like talk about boys and school and stuff. It was a real good book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Alice Afraid
This ALICE novel is about young Alice as she faces her terror of swimming. It would have been a better book without all the sexual content. If parents don't want their kids to read Arabian Knights(Ok I admit there are worse) then they won't want to buy this book for them. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT
Abbey wants to throw a big party for summer! Then Ms. Bunder asks the class to write a report about their rooms and Abbey realizes how boring her room is. So she turns her room into a Palace of Purple and throws a big party, too!

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST!
This was one of my favorite books in the series. Ms.Bunder, Abby's favorite and creative writing teacher, assigns an essay to write about your room. Abby finds that her room is awfully boring, and with the help of Isabel's nail polish, Abby not only paints her lamp purple (which was what she intentionally meant to do), but she paints half of her room purple! But, OH NO! Abby has forgotten to do almost everything for her "Hooray! It's Summer!" party! Fortunataly, her family helps her, and she has a great party, despite the water balloon fight. This was a great book and even Brianna complimented Abby on her room. Get a copy today!

4-0 out of 5 stars The More the Merrier-including Reviews
When Abby Hayes wants a "Hooray it's Summer!" party, she's exhilarated when her parents agree. Not only the party is keeping her busy though. Ms. Bunder assigns an essay about their rooms, and Abby discovers her room is too boring to suit her. Finding inspiration in Isabel's purple nail polish, she turns her room into a "Palace of Purple"! However, she forgets about her party until the very last minute! Fortunately, her parents help her, and her party is a blast. At the end, her classmates get a tour of her room. Even Brianna compliments it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Would you like more or the merrier?
The more Abby Hayes books there are the more of a merrier I
become. In this book Abby has a creative writing assignment to do. With the inspiration with the assignment and Isabel's
finger nail polish Abby does what she wants to do in her room.
Meanwhile Abby is planning a "Hooray it's summer" party and
her SuperSibs fighting Abby does not know how to manage...
And for sure you are going to be laughing!

5-0 out of 5 stars Abby Hayes!!
This book is one of my favorites! Its about when Ms.Bunder tells them that they have to write about their rooms. When it's time to start for Abby she discovers that her room is to boring. Abby also has to get her parents to let her have a party for all of the fifth grade! But Abby paints her lamp purple and thats it right? WRONG!! See what happens in The More, the Merrier! ... Book Description

After four years of hoping, wishing, scheming, and waiting, the moment Alice has been yearning for has at long last arrived....Alice's dad is finally marrying Sylvia Summers! Alice always knew they were perfect for each other when she set them up back in seventh grade, but she's relieved that The Big Day is here. She's never felt so excited, so vindicated, so grown-up, and so...well, so left out. Now that the wedding is really happening, no one has time for Alice anymore, and the situation just gets worse when Sylvia moves into their house. Nothing is the way Alice thought it would be. Her dad and Sylvia have their new life together; Lester has his new apartment; and Alice feels like she's on her own for the first time in her life.

She's also starting to notice that even though Dad and Sylvia are perfectly happy together, not everyone gets along so well. Elizabeth and Ross never see each other; Leslie and Lori are breaking up; Pamela and her mother can't seem to find a way to even talk to each other; and Alice herself has started to hear some surprising rumors about Patrick....

As Alice watches her friends sort out their problems and sees her dad and Sylvia navigate their new marriage, she starts to understand all the hard work that goes into relationships and how even when people seem to be meant for each other, it's not always easy to be together. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pleasing Prediction
Before I got the book, I already knew that this book would
be as excellent as the other alice series. I have been reading alice series since 7th grade, and boy I loved it. I already know that alice's adventures would be getting better and better since Ms. Naylor always write something to please the audience and my advice to you is to buy the book now because the book is worth every penny when you read it.
(Caution: Once you started reading the book you can't stop!)
-hehe... Naylorfan 4ever- ellie
Patrick+Alice they rock! (well.. most of the series)

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice Alice addition
Alice McKinely, who I've grown to love from book one just like a gal pal, is going through various changes. Some, she thinks, are for the best. Others, she believes, are for the worst. She also sees that these changes she's anticipated, the good ones - like Dad and Sylvia's wedding - also have their downside.

But how can Lester's moving out be anything positive? He wants his own apartment and has no reason not to leave home - Alice's begging for him to stay evidently won't suffice here - he's a grown man and it's time for him to stop mooching off Mr. McKinely. Alice can't imagine home without Lester in it. And as I've read the series, growing fonder and fonder with each book, I've gotten to know and love Lester's endearing quirks. His non-morning personality. His ways of teasing his baby sister. His "Ye gads!!!"

Alice can imagine the beautiful Sylvia Summers as her mama, despite the fact that she might not call her such. After all, she has been motherless since the age of 5. But Sylvia's arrival in the McKinely household is proving harder than it once seemed. Alice is no longer the only woman in the house - now Mr. McKinely pays more attention to his new bride than his own daughter. Having Sylvia in the house makes Alice feel the urge to be super-careful about petty things. It also makes her often feel oh-so awkward. Could Sylvia's moving in be a mistake?

On a different note, will things between Patrick and Alice heat up again, being he's through with Penny? They were acting awfully cozy at the wedding reception. Or will they remain mere friends? Either way, it's been clarified that Alice is no longer hurting over Patrick's dumping her. Or is she? Could it be why she's acting so cruelly to Penny, as revenge for the rather bitter breakup? She's the only lunch table member who didn't get a wedding invite, that's for sure.

Naylor's umpteenth venture into Alice's realistic world of friends, family, and hardships will have you drawn in till the end, just like all the other books in the series, though it has quite a bit less luster. Still, putting that aside, it is rather enjoyable. Perhaps if I didn't have the previous series efforts to compare it to, it wouldn't seem as bland.

Am I getting too old for Alice? Absolutely.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not a disappointment
I've been a faithful Alice fan for years, and have read most of the books several times. I was, however, a touch disappointed with the last book, "Patiently Alice." I was a little worried when I began "Including Alice," fearing it would also disappoint. No worries-it doesn't. "Including Alice" seems right back in the groove of the familiar Alice books. A little more sex talk than there used to be (but not nearly as bad as in "Patiently Alice"), but it redeems itself with some of the tradmark humor between Alice and Lester. If you were disappointed by "Patiently Alice," have no fear about this one-it's good. We finally get to experience the wedding of a lifetime, and the free CD is an added bonus. I would highly recommend this installment, along with the rest of the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keeps getting better.
I've been reading the Alice series since 4th grade. Now, going into my third year of college, I'm as big a fan as I ever was. I've grown up with these books. Alice is such a great character. She - along her friends, family, and experiences - is so believable, so real, that I feel like she really exists somewhere (perhaps inside Naylor, I suspect).

Including Alice continues the story of Alice McKinley. Now she is preparing for the wedding of her father to Sylvia Summers. The book follows her through the wedding, and the adjustments she has to make afterwards - like living in a female-dominated household after so many years of living with her dad and Lester. The other storylines in the book piece it together and make for added entertainment and laughs. But I don't want to give anything away, so I'll leave it at that.

In my eyes, Phyllis Reynolds Naylor is one of the best writers of young adult fiction, and I will continue to read the Alice series until their end. At that point I will just pass them on to the next generation of young girls in my family, and then the next... and the next...

You get the picture.

Now just read the books already. :)

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great addition to the series!
I've been a dedicated fan of the Alice series for over four years now, and I'm finally older than Alice - but I know I'll always love reading about her. Including Alice is a great addition to the series, and probably the most-eagerly-awaited of them all, because guess what? Alice's dad is getting married!

The "wedding chapters" were so much fun to read, especially while listening to the free CD of classical wedding music that's included with the book. Obviously, there are a lot of changes for 15-year-old Alice, including getting used to having a stepmom, Lester living in an apartment of his own, and new developments in her relationships with friends.

I really enjoyed this book, because it included many familiar characters, realistic and humorous situations, and was very easy to relate to. Alice is definitely growing up, and Phyllis Reynolds Naylor is the best at making this series work! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Strange soccer happenings
Very strange things happen to the kids of Bailey Elementary School. If it's not weird enough to have a VAMPIRE for a teacher, then what about having a ZOMBIE for a soccer coach??

In this 15th installment of the Bailey School Kids series, the gang is gearing up for a soccer tournament against their ol' school rivals. Like other sports they play, the Bailey kids just aren't doing well at all. That is, until Coach Graves shows up and puts 'em through the motions!!

Coach Graves has that combination of motivation, organization and sheer power that all fine teams have. Though she drills them through some tough practices, has them exercise until the gang thinks their legs will fall off and the whole team shows up for practice reeking of muscle-relaxant cream, with her as the coach, the Bailey team might have a fighting chance!!

That is, until one day when a mysterious old woman comes to practice, gets into a heated argument with Coach, and suddenly the Coach Graves, who has always been in constant motion, just sits on the bench staring out into space. Good grief! Has Coach been turned into a ZOMBIE?!

I've reviewed a number of the Bailey Kids books, and believe them to be good choices for intermediate readers. They're short, the language is easy, the type is large and easy to read (I'd say about 14-16 point), and the plot is logical and flows. As a teacher, I often use these books to hook in reluctant readers who don't normally read for pleasure, but who also might be too spooked by the Goosebumps series by Stine.

As of this writing, there are some 40 books to the series, each involving some mysterious creature, anything from vampires to aliens to mermaids. It isn't necessary to read the series in order, though some characters make repeat appearances in other books. A lot of books in the series can be holiday-based, like "Cupid Doesn't Flip Hamburgers" or "Santa Claus Doesn't Mop Floors". Most have a gentle blend of silliness and creepiness that is engaging without being terrifying. It's a fun series, and I've found myself reading almost ALL of them, even when I'm not using them to teach with! So, get yourself a few and follow along with the gang's adventures!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bailey School Kids
Hi!I'm introducing you to the book called Zombies don't play Soccer. It is very interesting. Most of the kids on Melody's soccer team think that melody is the best player. Ok all of them do.Liza, Eddie, Melody, and Howie think that their new soccer coach is a zomby. You'll have to read and find out if there soccer coach is a zomby, or not. I really like the book zombies don't play soccer because I like playing soccer a lot.

3-0 out of 5 stars It is a cool book.
Probably the kids who like the Goosebumps series would like this book better than other kids. I've read better books and its kind of easy for me. But I still like it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Aliens Don't Wear Braces
I read Aliens Don't Wear Braces. I thought it was a very interesting book. I liked it because it was different from any other book I read. That's the reason I liked it was something I never thought about and I like reading those kinds of book. I recommend kids 8 through 10 to read this book because it boosts a kid's imagination and they need to do that. I think kids should read books because kids should read instead of playing video games or watching TV. You would be rotting your brain and this is a good book to read. Everybody should read kids especially. Parents should read too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Pass This Book !!!
Aliens Don't Wear Braces by Debbie Dadey

Have you ever heard of an alien that wears braces? This book is about four kids named Howie, Eddie, Melody, and Liza. These kids had a substitute in art and they had a feeling she was an alien. Help them solve if the art teacher is an alien or not.

The reason I like this book was it is a mystery. Is the art teacher an alien? Another reason I liked this book was that they did some spying and they might get caught spying.

The author wrote this book to show how curious these kids are. A lesson the author wrote in this book was to have confidence in yourself.

When Eddie goes to the principal's office, he meets Mrs. Zork. Apparently, when they go to art, their teacher isn't their. Mrs. Zork is. The art teacher isn't there because he's sick. Then, Mrs. Jeepers gets sick.

Mrs. Zork loves color. Infact, Eddie's red hair is next. When Eddie and Howie go to Mrs. Zork's house, they saw all the color that she stole. Can Howie and Eddie get all the world's color back? Find out in this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Take me to your leader...
Strange occurrences are common at Bailey School. Santa Claus has (maybe...) come in to clean floors. The 3rd grade teacher is a vampire. Ghosts eat potato chips and NOW, it seems an alien has come to take over the art class!

Mrs. Zork is the new art teacher, and she is by far one of the strangest Bailey School characters yet. When she first comes to class, her hair is dead white, as is her skin-she looks like chalk. And what's with this business of her wearing braces?? And why did the power go out in the school right before she arrived? Come to think of it, what was that strange sound and light in the sky right before she came to school...?? My gosh, is she an alien from outer space?!

"Aliens Don't..." is the 7th book in the Bailey School Kids series, and marks a return to strange and creepy characters. Some other books, like "Santa Claus Doesn't Mop Floors", were more funny and enjoyable than weird and creepy. Something about Mrs. Zork, with her pale skin, white hair and odd ways (she doesn't even know what painting is!) is just plain strange. What's far MORE strange is how things seem to be loosing their colors when she's around... Pictures near the art room seem to be fading, flowers are dull-looking when she's around them, and what's more, isn't Mrs. Zork's pale skin starting to show some color??

The Bailey School Kids series is a fast paced, often funny set of books that will appeal to a lot of young readers who are looking to branch out into short, illustrated chapter books. The subject matter-- strange and supernatural creatures with an oddly human twist (like wearing braces)-- is likely to appeal to most young readers. There's plenty of evidence pointing to Mrs. Zork being an alien from outer space. However, like the other books in the series, there is also room for doubt, usually expressed through the opinions of the unbelieving class clown, Eddie. The fact that only about 4 or 5 of the 3rd graders at Bailey ever even NOTICE these weird goings-on and that they share a secret is one of the appeals to this series.

"Aliens Don't..." is a more engaging read than some of the other books in this series, perhaps because Mrs. Zork is just so strange and creepy (really, wouldn't a woman with dead-white hair and skin and shiny, glowing braces creep YOU out??). Yes, the illustrations are a bit cartoon-like and may detract from the story for some readers, but it's also a fun, swift read for beginning and intermediate readers. It comes recommended.

1-0 out of 5 stars Alice says, "Not worth reading!"
I did not like Aliens Don't Wear Braces at all. The pictures were pretty cartoony and didn't add much to the story. If you are looking for a fictional story about a strange school I suggest the Wayside School books by Louis Sachar. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars be careful what you wish for!
What if you could be granted 3 wishes... The Bailey School Gang is convinced they can do just that after they find an old bottle wedged in a tree in the school yard. They uncork it, a horrible smell issues forth, and the next day a very tall bald man named Gene shows up riding a purple bicycle. When the kids wishes suddenly start coming true (or is merely just a coincidence??) they become convinced that Gene is really a genie!!

The Bailey School Kids is an addictive series. This is number 8 and already I'm working my way through the next 5 or 6, and I'm an adult! Less creepy-spooky than others in this series ("Werewolves Don't..." and "Aliens Don't..." are more spooky than this one), this book is nevertheless a lot of fun. Gene mysteriously appears and laughs a loud laugh every time one of the kids offhandedly wishes for something. Then, that wish comes true! While our buddy Eddie doesn't believe that Gene could be a magical creature (does Eddie EVER believe anything??), readers will be very hard pressed to explain that he's not when they find out what happens to the Kid's normally boring, work-driven teacher!

The "...Don't..." series (as I call them) are all quick reads that weigh in 'round or under 100 pages. The story is easy to read and the plot catchy--what would YOU do if you wishes seemed to come true from a purple bicycle-riding genie? This makes "Genies Don't..." a good choice for beginning-to-intermediate readers or children/students who are normally reluctant to read. I wouldn't classify it as MY personal favorite, but I still enjoyed the book a good deal and would recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Experience the magic of Aladdin!
This story is about a group of kids who find a lamp. But after rubbing it things start changing! Amazing things happen! I highly recommend this book for you not just to read, but to EXPERIENCE the magic! I also think that it brings out the imagination in a kid. Especially a kid who is just starting to read chapter books. When I was just starting to read chapter books, I'd always wanted to read the Bailey School Kids books. Now I can't stop! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute Tale
The Bailey School's third grade class go on a fieldtrip to Pioneer Frontier where they meet Coyote Pete the ghost of a prospector cheated out of his gold by a kid named Blackheart Eddie. Unfortunately he thinks that their classmate Eddie is the one he vowed vengeance against.

This legend is a cute tale in which children use kid logic to lay a ghost to rest! This is a fun and enchanting story! Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Coyote Pete against Blackheart Eddie!!
When Liza, Melody, Howie, and Eddie went with the rest of their class to an old abandoned ghost town now made into a recreation they never had any idea of their further adventures with strange adults. However it seems that this one pale looking cowboy is definitely up to no good. It turns out his name is Coyote Pete...and wait till you hear the legend...it turns out Coyote Pete had caught the gold fever, but he was one unlucky guy and couldn't find any gold. When one of his best friends did, Coyote Pete couldn't resist the temptation to steal the gold from his friend. However his plan was uncovered by Blackheart Eddie, a red haired boy who always like to play tricks on everybody. Sounds familiar? A lot like our own Eddie? Well it turns out Blackheart Eddie spooked the horses and just when Coyote Pete was about to get the gold he was trampled by a stampede of horses. It turns out that the ghost of Coyote Pete has been lurking throught the mountains in search of Blackheart Eddie since... It doesn't look good for our Eddie friend cause Coyote Pete doesn't seem very friendly to him. Can Liza, Melody, and Howie save Eddie from his bad fate?

This is a great breakthrough for young children who are just starting to read chapter books. This were my first chapter books and I have mostly always enjoyed them through my years. Now I am much older and I find these books still very entertaining at times. A great books for young kids just reading chapter books and it has great pictures too! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet Valley High: Senior Year #7
Following the events in "Your Basic Nightmare" (#6), "Boy Meets Girl" (#7) makes some interesting changes in the main character's lives. For starters, Jeremy Aames finally asks Jessica Wakefield out on a few dates after their first kiss in the previous book. However, their dates never seem to go as planned, and they both begin to have their doubts about whether or not they should continue seeing each other. Plus, there's that added tension with Will Simmons showing up on one of their nights out. His appearance would seem harmless (after all, Jess swears she's over him), but if you read on, you'll see why it's not.

Next up is Melissa Fox, who is hospitalized after trying to kill herself in book #6, right after Will Simmons broke up with her. Most everybody feels guilty about this incident, especially Jess and Will, yet that's not stopping either one of them from thinking about each other. Could there still be some possible chemistry between these two? (I hope not. Jess seems happy enough with Jeremy, without Will ruining things.)

And lastly: Maria Slater had caught Elizabeth Wakefield and Conner McDermott kissing, and now she's not speaking to either one of them, mostly Liz though. And not surprisingly, Conner is now avoiding Liz, too, so she can "work things out" with Maria. More like so he can leave the "relationship" quietly.

There were some really good lists, journal entries, and assignments in "Boy Meets Girl", in particular Liz's freestyle writing assignment about the meaning of love and Maria's "Why Books Are Better Than People" list (my favorite). This is probably one of the better books I've read so far in this series. Jessica is finally back to her old self, worrying about boys and appearances, plus being more assertive, which was the biggest character trait missing in the previous six SVHSY books. "Boy Meets Girl" is worth reading if you finally want to see Melissa get her comeuppance and Jessica land on her two feet again. For readers age 12+

5-0 out of 5 stars it's a great book
i think that jeremy and jessica made a great couple and jessica should forget about will. jeremy is a much better choice than will.i hope that jessica won't break up with jeremy just because of will. maria should get over the fact that elizabeth is in love with conner.melissa got what she deserved.i can't wait to read the next book!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Boy meets Girl
My book was about the senior year when the guys finally meet the girl of their dream. This guy name Jeremy meets the girl of his dream her name is Jessica Wakefield, who has a twin sister name Elizabeth Wakefield. But their is a little problem that jeremy has everytime he wants to go out with Jessica something has to go wrong. they never get to see each other until the last minute. this book is very interested for young girl like me, i guaranteed that you will enjoy reading this book. if you really want to know what your senior year will kind of be when you finally get there or if you are already their you make think its kind of what you went thru.

4-0 out of 5 stars boy meets girl
I love the whole jessica and jeremy thing, i think he is really good for her. i just wish she would get over will, he is a jerk. i feel bad melissa tried to kill herself, but i mean over a guy? really... melissa is supposed to be super cool, but why is it everytime her and will break up she goes mental? she is not exactly stable... conner is annoying and liz is annoying for trying to be with someone like that. he isn't worth her or maria's time.

5-0 out of 5 stars pretty darn good
This was a really good book. It just didn't have enough Liz/Connor interaction for me. I think Connor is being a jerk at the end. I like how it ended with Jessica and Will makin up and Jessica and Jeremy getting together though. I also like the friendship developing between Ken and Maria. Overall, a very good book. ... i thought that this book was ok, but not really all that. it had a kind of bittersweet edge to it... u can feel that they are wrapping up their senior year and things are going to change soon. i was really disappointed that conner and liz didn't end up together, after all that they been through. jade annoyed me through this whole thing because she was so whiny.

3-0 out of 5 stars an ok book
I bought this book along with Sweet 18, thinking I should read Senior Cut Day first, let me tell you, I didn't have to. It is all focused around the twins, their friends and their senior cut day where they decide to go to Universal Studios. Jessica and Trent get cast as extras in a movie leaving Jeremy and Jade to commiserate together. Elizabeth and Conner talk about their relationship, or lack of. And Tia and Andy's boyfriends realize they shouldn't be on the road trip with them and Conner. All in all, an ok book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleased yet displeased
Okay, big fan of the whole liz conner thing...i just hated it when it ended. And i was totally happy when the whole alaina thing ended. Though i have to say, as a whole, we readers are being toyed with. Yes/no, no/yes. Though i have to admit thats what has kept me interested. Conner and liz, there will never be another couple like them. This book has some seriously good parts, for all us Liz and Conner fans. Overall, it was good, though slightly disapointing. Im still holding out for them.

2-0 out of 5 stars One of Those Books You Just Want To Throw Across The Room
When I read Prom Night, I COULD NOT wait until Senior Cut Day. Finally, the witch was dead(Alanna), and Conner and Elizabeth had already established a friendship. This is the second last series of the book, and you'd think the author would just make us happy and bring Liz and Conner back together. Well... that isn't the case, and it was definitely what I've been waiting for ever since they broke up, so I'm giving this book 2 stars. Some parts were cute, but I was just too disappointed. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 *Ms. Frizzle Leads the Way
A fun book in the "Magic School Bus" series, this is a fact- and pun-filled account of Ms. Frizzle's students (and parents) going on a field trip to learn more about bats. Some of the kids are a little nervous at first: Ralphie believes that bats are really vampires! The field trip shows otherwise, as bat-facts are presented in a creative and interesting manner.

The famous bus does do some magic here: Turning into a "bat bus" to demonstrate echolocation, and then turning the children into bats (temporarily!) so they can learn about bat food, bat predators, bat flight speed, and general "hanging around (upside down from the branches of a tree)." Facts replace suspicion (Is Ms. Frizzle herself a vampire?Did she turn the parents into vampires?), and the story ends with yet another pun.(Be your own judge about whether this story might be too frightening for the very young). With bright, colorful (but not extraordinary) illustrations on each one of the story's 28 pages, and two pages with letters about bats and bat facts. Probably not as exciting as Batman, but fans of "The Magic School Bus" and nature facts should love it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Was a Sixth Grade Alien
One thing that I really liked about this book was that it had a language different than the other lanugages that you see in sci-fi. The language in question used bodily functions other than the standard speaking.

It's about a young, purple alien named Pleskit that is taken along by his father to Earth as part of a trade mission. Pleskit is enrolled in a public school, and, thanks to some wrong information about how Earthlings always speak the truth, Pleskit succeeds in making most of the kids at school hate him.

Except for Tim Tompkins, that is, resident alien enthusiast. He's psyched out of his mind to see a real, live alien and wants to make friends with Pleskit, but something always comes up- like, Pleskit seemingly attacking another boy at school, for example.

So Tim forms a plan to meet Pleskit by hiding in his 'personal needs' room (a.k.a. bathroom) and hoping to make a good impression. Surprisingly, he does, and is invited to Pleskit's house.

Tim's excited, of course, and Pleskit is outraged to hear that his database was tampered with (the whole Earthlings lie thing). They decide to scope out their number one suspect's room, but they see him coming and quickly duck into Mikta-Makta-Mookta's room (Pleskit's father's secretary). There, they discover that she has something that shouldn't be in her room...

I really liked this book, and it's great for kids that are in fifth and sixth grades.

4-0 out of 5 stars Response to Lit for my Seventh Grade Advanced English Class
The book I was a Sixth Grade Alien, by Bruce Coville, is about Pleskit, an alien that comes to Earth with his father, whom they call the fatherly one, and his great fatherly one, or his grandfather. Pleskit comes here for his father, who is the ambassador. When he comes to Earth, he meets Tim. Tim is an alien loving kid that lives on Earth who tries to become Pleskit's friend, and in the end they do become friends. Tim's class makes fun of him, but he still tries to become Pleskit's friend.
I was confused in the beginning of the book. I didn't understand why every chapter was told by a different person telling their part of the story. Towards the end, I started to understand why Coville did this. He did this so that you, the reader, could understand what each person felt and thought about what was going on. Pleskit, being an alien, had different thoughts and different ways of looking at things than Tim did. "From what she tells me, everyone on this planet likes to pretend that he or she is unique and different" (Coville 13). Pleskit went to an Earth training module, but I guess they didn't tell him everything about the people on Earth.
I really liked the parts in the book when Tim followed Pleskit around trying to become his friend, and when they finally did meet, they got along. I was happy to read this because at the beginning of the story Tim doesn't have many friends and then he has a friend and I am happy for him. Everyone needs a friend that they can count on. Tim finally got this. "Pleskit. I've got to make friends with him before he thinks we all hate him"(Coville 82).
I was confused at the end about how Mikta-makta-mookta and Harr-giss were trying to break down Pleskit's training modules to make him mess up and have to go back home. Was this to make his father's job go down the drain or just put it on a rocky start? "'Senator Hargis is an alien'" (Coville 159).
I really enjoyed this book. I am like Tim in some ways. I love aliens and the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I have seen it about as many times as he has. I think anyone that likes aliens or has an interest in science fiction and/or myths would like this book. I was a Sixth Grade Alien is for kids in grades five through seven. It was a pretty easy book to read. I enjoyed every part and the end kept me on my toes. I didn't want to put it down at times.

2-0 out of 5 stars Cheesy but bearable
This would have been decent (for an alien book) if it didn't happen to have such a colloquial voice. The plot was a tad bit cheesy but most of the time it was bearable. Then one of the main characters would say some completely idiotic and almost teenage remark and I would practically throw up. I do not recommend this book to anybody who likes good literature and an interesting story line. However, if you like alien books and you don't mind bad literature, maybe this is a good book for you. I have a wonderful friend who thinks this book is fabulous (I have no idea why). I hope you make a good decision! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars I think...
...that this book is a okay book. What happens is that these aliens make contact with Earth and this guy called the Fathery One ( who is the ambassador ) wants his kid, called Pleskit, to go to a normal public school. There are some people who don't want the aliens on earth at all. Then Pleskit and Tim ( the guy who wants to be Pleskit's friend ) discover somebody is going to sabotage the alien misson... ...find out more by reading this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Rod Allbright, but interesting
The novel "I was a Sixth Grade Alien" by Bruce Coville was an excellent book. It deals witht he character of Pleskit who is new to Earth, who befriends an American boy. Somethings are surprising. The class Pleskit goes to doesn't really care that Pleskit is an alien. A few kids switch out of class. If this really happened, everyone would be more excited. Also, when the Earth kid saves the day by barfing from alien food(yes, it's a long story), he acts like he's not even glad he ate the alien food. If that hadn't happened, his life would have been screwed up, as well as Pleskit's! The story does keep you and catches your eye. Kudos for that. ... Read more

I loved how this series is going so far! It's confusing and happy and dramatic all in one! It's a mixed emotions type of book. I have read all of the books and I can't wait for the next one to come out! I can't wait to see what happens with Elizabeth and Salvador! It's a great book and I loved it! I also am wondering what will happen with Jessica, that either she'll get a boy friend or if she'll be friends with a new girl, etc. Lizzie is my main person I can't wait to see what happens with though! The other characters I want to learn a little more about like Kristin and Bethel. Well, read this book and the rest of the series! Happy Reading!

5-0 out of 5 stars double scoop of fun
Can Bailey School possibly get any weirder?? Well, funny you should ask...

Our small band of 3rd graders is presented with one of their newest run-ins with the strange and supernatural.Out on a trip to the Burger Doodle, they run into a new counter worker, Scout. In addition to having an odd name, Scout is an odd character!First off, her skin is ashen white, she wears a hooded black sweatshirt, and her eyes are blood red!!Speaking of blood red, what's that weird, thick red syrup she's always putting on her own ice cream? It looks a lot like...like blood!

It doesn't take long for the Bailey Kids to begin to wonder about her and her strange way of almost GLIDING over the tiles.Besides, she doesn't ever laugh or even crack a smile. It's not long before someone suggests that she might be a ghoul:an undead creature in the service of a vampire who is in search of new places for their vampire masters to live. When the Kids find out that Ms. Jeepers, their vampire teacher, is thinking of having her family move to Bailey City, they decide that action must be taken or else the city will be overrun by vampires!!One for a teacher is bad enough!

This is the 31st installment in the Bailey School Kids series and is a bit creepier than some of the others in the series. It's still got all the elements of the other books, a wisecracking Eddie who refuses to believe that any of these weird folk are anything but that--just weird, not supernatural, a fast pace and fun plot.

I've reviewed a number of the books in the series and am finding them quite addicting. They're fast reads for beginning-to-intermediate readers (though an adult will likely finish them in less than half an hour), and the language is simple and fun.I often recommend this series for students & children who are not very interested in reading because the pace is fast, the plot is simple, and they're generally a lot of fun to read. So, scoop yourself out some vanilla and settle in with the Bailey Kids in this installment!

5-0 out of 5 stars I would give this book BIG five stars.
I would give this book Big five stars beacause it tells what are they going to do to solve the mysteries and what's going on. I liked it because they give details about how they look like. I would compare this with Vacation Under The Volcano but I like Volcation Under the Volcano better because it has magic. I would recommend this book to a friend because in the book they try to figure out what is going on.

5-0 out of 5 stars A ghoul was searching for a home of a family of vampires.
This book is nifty and exhilerating. I really liked this book and I think you should read it. ... Read more
