What a sweet book! We received this book as a gift. From the first time I read it to my daughter, I was enchanted. The illustrations are beautiful. The story is simple, yet highly entertaining. My 21 month old daughter has completely fallen in love. She can be heard going through the house going "Whoosh . . .YIKES!" (from the book). I HIGHLY recommend this book for your little ones. Can't wait to get another Mole Sister book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for Preschool
It is always delightful to see good new books for children, and I believe that the "Mole Sisters" will become nursery classics. The illustration of the entire series is exquisite--simple, yet vivid and witty. The prose is spare, with each word perfectly chosen, and room for parent-child extended discussion of the action. The characters are charming, likeable, confident, and optimistic without being in any way saccharine. My daughter was given several of the Mole Sisters books as a 2nd birthday present, since which I have bought the others for ourselves, and have bought all of them, many times over, as gifts for other children. My daughter, now 3, began reading to herself at a very early age, and these were among the first books that she read alone. My two younger children are also choosing these over and over again to have read to them. Because of the gently philosophical subject matter of the books they are also entirely suitable for slightly older children, who will easily master the text, but who will then have questions about the topics raised. My advice is: get them all. If you don't want to take the risk, then get one--frankly, at this price you can afford to take a chance--and I'm sure that you'll want the others. They are all wonderful, although my own favourite (by a small margin)is "Wavy Wheat". ... Read more

Book Description

The Mole Sisters are wondering who they are. They set out to find an answer. They decide they're not fish, because fish live in water; they're not birds, because birds fly; they're not snails, because snails live alone... they're Mole Sisters, of course!

About the series: The Mole Sisters make the most of each day. Full of fun, imagination, and quiet confidence, these are small creatures with very big hearts. 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfectly pleasing
I am a big fan of this series. I find them absolutely perfect for pre-schoolers, and my three young children adore them. The illustrations are utterly charming, and the text is simple yet beautifully chosen. This is my current favourite of the eight--but they're all so lovely that I never get tired of reading them or of giving them as gifts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny, Sweet and Original
The beautiful illustrations are what orginally caught my eye while browsing at a bookshop. But after reading this short and clever book, I was hooked. It is funny and sweet and very original...almost poetic!

My five year old god-daughter visited me and fell in love with this book and wanted me to read it to her over and over. It's a wonderful bedtime read and I'd recommend all four books..."The Rainy Day" is great, but "Moss" is the best. Don't hesitate to buy the series...they are a delight and very fun to read aloud.

5-0 out of 5 stars Captivating, bright and carefree!
Roslyn Schwartz has created a colorful summertime world full of lush illustrations and happy adventurings of two carefree moles. The text is simple but original. The fanciful plot is charming, amusing, and uplifting. Reads quickly, but packs a satisfying story into its few pages. ... Read more

Book Description

From the creator of the Mole Sisters comes a charming, humorous picture book for toddlers. Roslyn Schwartz plugs right into the world of preschoolers. She understands how to make them laugh out loud and how to set their imaginations soaring. In this timeless story of identity, follow Butterfly and Giraffe, Handsome Hound and Big Hairy Ape, Baby and others as they embark on their voyage of discovery.

Open the book and "Yo Baby!" appears above the stem of a large green leaf... on which sits a regal butterfly. "I'm not a baby! I'm a..." Turn the page and there a small butterfly flits in the air above the word "BUTTERFLY" in large, bold type. Swinging gently onto this page from the one opposite is the tail of a long-legged animal, who says, "I'm not a butterfly! I'm a..."

And so the voyage of discovery continues.

This simple story will engage and delight young children, as they are invited to guess the identity of the mystery object in the picture or anticipate the patterning as they "read" along. Each page flows beautifully into the next as the characters and objects turn out to be cleverly interlinked, building momentum as the book progresses. At the end of the story, children, like Baby, will be the captain of their own literacy boat as they sail through the vocabulary, matching pictures and words ... Read more
