Sabrina even remembers to check the spell's fine print, and she's positive there are no adverse side effects for the spell caster.

But when Sabrina goes to school the next day, things are definitely not right. Sabrina's wide-awake, but everyone else is falling asleep...and won't wake up! 5-0 out of 5 stars For everyone who has a bear
I bought this book for our own bear, last Christmas. He never has insomnia, but was as delighted as his owners were to read this enchanting story, enjoying the dreamlike prose and illutrations. This book isn't just for children. It's for the child inside all of us, so that we never forget the magic and innocence of being young, and more importantly, that we never forget the importance of bears. Remember - look after you bear, whether you're 2 or 92.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent bedtime story!
The comments from the Vermont reader match my feelings about Sleep Well, Little Bear exactly. The prose IS gentle, descriptive, and wonderful. The artwork, however, is so truly beautiful. I especially appreciated Buchholz's use of light. The text and the soft, easy, lovingly detailed pictures makes it a very lulling read. I'm keeping this for my (very) future grandchildren.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous picture book
This is an truly lovable book. A little bear, in typical little boy style, can't quite get to sleep so he reviews his day of being a pirate on the river that flows past his house, and helping old Mrs Rose with her garden, and other wonders of a child's (and bear's) life. The prose is sweet and gentle and clever and lovely, but what really makes this book is the artwork--surreal, truly beautiful pictures of the circus clown playing his violin to put a baby elephant to sleep, and the little bear peering out his bedroom window at the moon, and the night musicians wandering through the meadow, and the deer in the mist. Buy it for yourself, lend it to your kids. ... Read more

Book Description

$15.95 hardcover · 1-58685-153-5

9 x 10 ½ in, 32 pp, Color Illustrations Throughout, Rights: W, Children's Picture Book

What's more fun than a clowder of cats, a rafter of turkeys, a swarm of bees, or a pack of dogs? Herd of Cows! Flock of Sheep!-the latest word play from the king of language arts picture books, Rick Walton.

After bringing in his corn, potatoes, beans, and tomatoes before a rainstorm, Farmer Bob decides to settle down for a good night's rest. While he snoozes away, the river rises high enough to set his bed afloat down the river. This sends his animals into a panic-a drove of pigs outlines a plan, a colony of beavers races to chew down trees, a school of fish tries to create a dam, and so forth, until finally Farmer Bob is rescued by a nest of snakes and a herd of horses. It's a barnyard adventure that will leave bands of children begging for more.

Author of Once There Was a Bull...frog, Bullfrog Pops! and many other wonderful children's books, Rick Walton lives with his wife and four children in Provo, Utah, where he writes on whatever is available and gets pretty much what he deserves.Julie Olson was born in Maryland, grew up in Evansville, Indiana, and graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.F.A. in illustration. She lives near Utah's Rocky Mountains, where she devotes her time to illustration and family. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Kids receive a subtle lesson in word play and animal names
Language play is presented in Herd of Cows! Flock of Sheep!, a fun storybook which tells of a farmer who brings in his crop before a rainstorm and then settles down for a night of calm sleep. When he faces danger, the entire barnyard tries to awaken him to trouble - but he refuses to awaken to face the danger. Kids receive a subtle lesson in word play and animal names as they enjoy the zany story of a farmer who just won't listen to reason (or noise!). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lost TV Episode Gets New Chance as a Book
I was quite pleased when I learned that this book was going to be available. This is a novelization of one of the lost fifth season episodes of the "Franklin" television series. This is one of many stories that viewers never got to see due to the cancellation of the program after the fourth season. Overall the story itself is fairly decent. Franklin is tired of having to go bed so early all the time and so he convinces his Mom to allow him to invite his friends for a "stay-up over." However, his plans start to fail when all of his friends want to get some sleep, but he keeps trying to find ways to keep them awake. Those who miss the television show will probably be pleased with this novelization, as there's a good chance this story may never make it to video. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Soooo precious!
I bought this book as a way to start Christmas traditions in my home. I plan on reading it aloud every year. The story really reminds me of when I was young and everyone piled into my grandmother's house for Christmas. Plus, kids love the Shhhhhh and Whhhh noises!

4-0 out of 5 stars Such a Warm Christmas Tale.........
......kids are sure to love it! I'm buying "A Houseful of Christmas" for my six year old nephew as a Christmas gift. He's just learning to read and I think this book will re-affirm his confidence in his new reading skills. The story itself is just darling............Granny is getting ready, with her dog Edgar and cat Fat Cat, for a Christmas dinner at her house. When her guests arrive, they greet each other and sit down to dinner together and open gifts in the warmth of Granny's home as it snows heavily outside. When it's time to leave, Granny decides to invite everyone to stay over because the weather has gotten too bad outside. It becomes a sleepover for the whole family: Granny, aunts, uncles, cousins and lots of kids! The story really shows the Christmas holiday as one of love for family, giving, and feelings and warmth and thankfulness. The illustrations are quite nice also. I recommend this story-book for children approximately ages three to seven.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Houseful of Love.....
"Every year the whole family came to Granny's for Christmas." It was her favorite time of year. She baked and decorated, wrapped presents, and on Christmas morning made her candied yam casserole. Soon everyone arrived, chatty Aunt Fanny, and her skinny sister, Clarisse, Uncle Bert, the fireman, with his dog, Great-aunt Ruby, who always smelled like cherry cough drops, Aunt Ivy, and her three noisy little boys, Annie, Michael and little Otto, and of course, Lambert. They ate Uncle Bert's famous smoked turkey and Granny's yams, opened their gifts, and sang carols while Granny played her accordion. But this year something special and unexpected happened, they all got snowed in, and had a big sleepover on Granny's living room floor..... Barbara Joosse has outdone herself with this joyous story of love and family, traditions, and togetherness. Her simple text pulls the reader right into the story, and lets you enjoy the holiday as one of the family, and is complemented by Betsy Lewin's colorful and expressive watercolor artwork. Together, they've authored a delightful picture book about making a lifetime of memories and remembering all the good family times. Perfect for youngsters 3-7, A Houseful Of Christmas is a lovely story your entire family can read and share together as you begin to get ready for the holiday season and make your own new memories. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Story for Bedtime
Using bright picture collages, Lorianne Siomades presents a charming bedtime book for little ones. The opening question, "Do you know where wild babies sleep?" leads to pages of sleeping baby animals who are watched over by a protective parent. Each illustration also shows the correct environment for the animals: a kangaroo, a puffin, a skunk, a dormouse, a stingray, an armadillo, a monkey, a walrus, and a porcupine. Highly recommended! Other books by Lorianne Siomades include "Cuckoo Can't Find You," "Kangaroo and Cricket," and "A Place to Bloom." ... Read more
