3-0 out of 5 stars Great skater, average biography
Tara Lipinski is a wonderful skater, but this biography does not begin to do her justice. It is filled with errors that could have been easily corrected by either having an editor who knows something about skating or watching a videotape of the performances in question. Even the photos are nothing special. For a better book about Tara's career, try her autobiography, Triumph on Ice. Skip this one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Feels Like You're There
On the Ice with Tara Lipinski is a great book. The author is Matt Christopher. He is a great writer. When I read this book I felt like I was there watching Tara skate on the ice. It was a great book and still is. So, whoever is looking for a sports book, this is the one for you to read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Jeff Gordon: Racing's Superstar
Biography of Jeff Gordon, who excelled in car racing at a young age and is currently considered a leader in the sport. His story is one of not quitting, even when the odds are against you. When he ws 4 years old, his stepdad threatened to take away his two wheeler if he could not master riding without training wheels, so he practiced all day and when his stepdad returned, he could ride. Later, when he startted racing, he was underage for many races, so he tried to look older by using eyebrow pencil on his mustache in order to compete. Eventually his family moved to the midwest where there were no age barriers for races, so he could regularly compete. Besides being an excellent racer, he is a positive role model to youth, giving much of his earnings to charities. Includes photographs, glossary, index, and bibliography. ... Read more

STEVEN TRAVERS
AUTHOR OF "BARRY BONDS: BASEBALL'S SUPERMAN"(...)

3-0 out of 5 stars Barry Bond's Career
Barry Bonds Record Breaker is a great book to tell you a lot about Barry's career in baseball. The book also tells you about Barry's homeruns, like when he beat Mark McGwire's record with 73 homeruns. Also, he got 4 Most Valuable Player Awards, (WOW!), 8 Golden Glove Awards, and is the only player to have over 400 homeruns and stolen bases.I enjoyed learning about Barry's career in baseball. ... Book Description

Travis and the Screech Owls are flying to Nagano, site of the 1998 Winter Olympics, to play in Big Hat - the same arena where for the first time NHL stars competed for medals and women played Olympic hockey!

No one is more excited than Nish to be in Japan, the land of the rising sun – and the electrically heated toilet seat, and a soft drink called “Sweat”! He and the gang see new things on-ice too. Their Japanese opponents play a very different style of hockey. And Nish, who has discovered a new form of martial arts on his trip, is counting on a mysterious “force shield” to help his game.

Then a shadow falls over the tournament. The mayor of Nagano collapses at the opening-night banquet. The Owls are caught in a freak avalanche while snowboarding. A menacing stranger is following them.…As the Owls head to the finals, one question is on everyone’s mind: When will the nightmare end?

Nightmare in Nagano is the ninth book in the Screech Owls Series.

1-0 out of 5 stars This book is not for Children who believe in Santa Claus
This book was written on a third grade reading level.I am a professional educator from Texas and I read it with my twin 7 year olds two weeks before Christmas(The characters in this book are also 7 year olds).Early in the book a child was being teased about believing in Santa Claus. I was surprised, but felt sure that toward the end of the book Ms. Delton would some how tie in that there really was a Santa Claus, so she wouldn't ruin a timeless tradition of many people.Imagine my surprise when she did the exact opposite! One child tells the other-Santa Claus isn't real he is really your mom and dad and the boy responds by saying, I know, but it is more fun to pretend you beleive.I think it was irresponsible of Ms. Delton to write a Christmas story on a Third grade reading level (this is also the grade that I teach) and to tell millions of children everywhere that Santa Claus isn't real.It is my job as a parent to make the decision as to whether my children participate in the believe of Santa Claus.I expected my chlidren would find out that Santa was not real, but never in my wildest dreams did I think they would find out from a library book!...
The book is a good book, but the content is not apporpiate for the age level in which it is written. This is why I rated it so low!

3-0 out of 5 stars Written very well; some content questionable
A Pee Wee Christmas by Judy Delton is written very well and is very interesting to children. It comes from a great series of books for children.

This book is not appropriate for children who still believe inSanta Claus. It brings up the question of if there really is a Santa Claus.A boy who still believes gets laughed at.

It is very appropriate forolder children. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
Freddie and his big brother, Donavon, are always competing becouse they want to be better than the other one. Donavon dares Freddie to go down a slope that only 2 people have gone down without getting hurt. Freddie goes does on his snowboard. You won't be able to put down this book. It is exciting when Freddie sets up a snowboarding tournament. It is a story of frienship, brotherhoo, and competition. It is really good.

4-0 out of 5 stars An okay snowboarding book
I thought this book was okay. It had plenty of snowboarding, but there was too much competition between the two brothers. I really liked though when they finally realized that they have to watch out for one another.

5-0 out of 5 stars Did you ever want to beat you oldern sibling in something?
... I really liked this book. I liked it because I am a really sporty girl. I you like stories with sport adventures and a pretty easy reading level you would like this book. This book is also a fun book to read. When I read a lot of the book at one time I could barely put it down. If you think reading is nerdy then try this book. You will think very different about reading after this book. I thought I was going to hate this book but I ended up loving it. I hope you take my advise and read this book. You won't be sorry.

4-0 out of 5 stars Snowboard Showdown
I enjoyed this book because I learned a good lesson from it. How you shouldn't break a promise, the one Freddie made to his dad. He got what he wanted in the end by doing the right thing. I would recommend this book a friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars A non-stop snowboarding book with action!
This is a great book for enjoyment reading. Once I started I couldn't stop and I finished in one night! I really liked this book because I love snowboarding, but you don't have to like snowboarding to enjoy this book. It has a mix of brothership and sportsmanship that is emense with action. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a joy for reading and to snowboarders who needs to learn new tricks. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wingman on Ice
For our book reivew I read the book "Wingman On Ice," by Matt Christoper. It's about a boy named Todd Baker who gets a brand new hockey stick for christmas.Todd doesn't think he deserves the stick because of the way he had been playing,so he puts it in his closet. He practices for a long time, but still does not think he deserves the stick. This story takes place in present time. It was the last day of the season at Mana rink, Todd's game had really improved, now he finally thinks he deserves the stick, but does not have it with him. If you want to know what happens next, you will have to read the exciting book, "Wingaman On Ice." If I had to rate this book from a scale of one to ten, I would give this book an eleven it is so good!

4-0 out of 5 stars toms review
I like this book because how a boy practices to get better and he does so he finally earns his new hockey stick that he got for christmas.I also like this book because they make it real.I think people who like hockey they would like this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A young boy proves that good things must be earned
We enjoyed reading this story as it addresses a key value: that good things must be earned. At times, however, we felt the boy was a bit too hard on himself. Overall we enjoyed the story alot and if you love hockey it is a good way to learn more about how the game is played.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good story if your seven year old boy is into hockey.
The book kept the interest of my son from start to finish. The book also provided accurate information on some of the skills used in hockey. My son is looking forward to the day he will be able to read it on his own. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A very interesting book
This book provides a very good bibliography about Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon. Hakeem Olajuwon is an amazing athlete from Nigeria who came to America and succeeded as a basketball player. He is my favorite basketball player from the NBA, and this book shows why he was so great. He's won two championships, and he even recorded an extraordinary triple-double one time. If you want a very interesting book about Hakeem Olajuwon, look no further than this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book. Very informative for Hakeem likers like myself.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Story of an Anti-Hero
This is an excellent book and very well written. It is the story of an anti-heroine who is easy to admire, but very difficult to like. My children disliked Street's arrogance, her disdain for training and the negative attitude that robbed her of the complete success that could have followed her natural courage and abilities. It is nevertheless a great example to show young women how to believe in themselves, to persevere in the face of setbacks, and the importance of courage. The author did an excellent job of portraying how very far Street could have gone if she had accompanied her courage with judgement, and her confidence with kindness. It was particularly inspiring to my daughters.

5-0 out of 5 stars We now ski, for the first time!
After reading this inspiring book, we have found courage to shred the slopes ourselves. The author obviously has a true love of skiing himself, and we think he is way overdue to write a companion piece on Hillary Lind, and to check out the wild slopes of Alaska. We look forward to reading future books from this outstanding children's author! Kudos from Juneau!

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, inspiring children's book.
Picabo Street is a very easy and entertaining book to read even for adults. Any child should find it interesting and inspiring. It challenges chidren to have a dream and work hard to achieve it. Rhoda Carlstedt

3-0 out of 5 stars Skate or Snowboard?
A Review by Shannon
Dennis O'Malley is a thirteen year-old boy that loves to skateboard. He was always very disappointed when winter came around the streets were covered with snow and he could not skateboard. He always waited for the streets to be cleared so he could skateboard again. Unfortunally, he had a big accident that sent him to the hospital and was unable to skateboard for a year. He saw his two best friends, Robbie and Tasha that had got into the sport snowboarding. He was very tempted to try but had many fears of his last accident. He wanted to try so bad, but he wanted his own board.. He had gotten one for a Christmas gift and he loved it. He had improved a lot and was now one of the best snow boarders around, besides Dale Morgan. Everyone knew him as the "best snowboarder and athletes". Dale was never challenged because all the kids had lost to him, but Dennis and his go at it in a race. Who will win?
This book deserves 3 stars because it caught you off guard half the time. It was very exciting and got you motivated to get out and snow board. I would recommend it to any age that is looking for a good sports novel!

4-0 out of 5 stars Snowboard Maverick Review
Imagine the season for your favorite sport is over and you want to try a new sport, but you dont have enough money to buy what you need. In this book Snowboard Maverick by Matt Christopher this happens to one of the main characters Dennis O'malley. The other main characters are Tasha Springer and Robbie Macintyre. They're all very good friends. Dennis wants a snowboard because skateboarding season is over and he wants to try snowboarding. Of course though he doesnt have enough money to buy one. I wont tell you any more i dont want to ruin this exciting book for you.
First of all i need to recommend this book. i liked this book because it had tons of action and its easy to read, and it brought me in the book. the action is all in the snowboarding parts with lots of details. It doesnt have any hard words or confusing parts either. Also, i didnt want to put the book down untill i was done reading it.
To begin i think antone who snowboards should read this book. It tells a lot about snowboarding and has a lot of snowboarding parts. Boys if you like action and fun, read this book. So if you want to find out if dennis gets the snowboard and has lots of fun during his break READ THIS BOOK!

4-0 out of 5 stars Snowboard Maverick
This is a book about a boy named Dennis O'Maily. He is an expert skateboarder, but in the town he live in there is snow for more than half the year. What is he to do? His friends convince him to try snowboarding. He has a previous fear of snow sports because when he was younger he was in a skiing accident. He broke many bones in his body and even got in the town newspaper. Since then he feared any snowsports. But his friends convince him to try snowboarding. He loves it and gets a snowboard for christmas. He has two main challenges on against a bully, and the other to a friendly older athlete. He wins both and becomes very confident in himself.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Best Snowboard and Skateboard Learning Book Ever
This book is a really great book. Even though I only gave it a four I still really liked it. That's cause at the end I really wanted it to go on a little more about Dale Morgan. He is the best snowboarder ever, but just after Dennis the main guy in the story beat Rick and Pat these two bullies. Who have been snowboarding for a year in a snowboard race. Plus Dennis was almost in an acident, but he came out and still won by twenty feet or so. Then Dale Morgan challenged him in a freestlye contest. You will have to find out if he gets wasted or wins. Please do cause it has alot of learning skills that in real they can help you in a problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Snowboard maverick

JEREMY LIM: CENTER FIELD

Jeremy is quiet, a loner, and the smallest member of the Scrappers. Sometimes it seems like the only thing his teammates think he's good for is getting a base on balls. If only he could get the big hit, or make the spectacular play, maybe they'd notice him.

The trouble is, every time Jeremy tries to be the hero, he messes up. Now his reckless attempt to steal second in a key game may have cost the Scrappers their chance at the championship. How can Jeremy win his teammates' respect -- and more importantly, their friendship? ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Practice makes Perfect
This book is about a boy named Jeremy, who plays right field. He doesn't like being walked when he is batting, so he tries to show off. He swings at bad pitches, and strikes-out alot. His coach wonders what is the matter with him, so he spends time practicing with Jeremy after the regular practice is over. Jeremy learns not to show off, and gets better. I liked this book because it is entertaining, especially if you're a baseball fan. It helps kids realize that everyone makes mistakes. ... Read more
