5-0 out of 5 stars olympic dream
I thought this book was an exciting book because in every part of the book there was something happening. I also liked it because it had a lot in it about biking and how to get started in biking with out showing it directly. It also showed that if your a kind of lazy person who just sits and watches television all the time that you can get out and do something to make yourself proud like doug did on the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Astonishing Olympic Dream
Olympic Dream by Matt Christopher is an extremely amusing, in my opinion. This book takes place in a small town in the U.S., late 1980's. It is about an adolescent boy. Doug, who meets a man, Red, that completely changes his life. They become friends and Red teaches Doug to ride a bike. The reasons I am recommending this book are, that the author was very descriptive on every part including the characters and setting. He went into superb detail about each characters personality. He described the setting which was the town so that you could visualize it as you were reading it. For instance he described the arcade and old wooden shack with 6 arcade machines each costing a quarter to play. He also made this book have a wonderful moral. This book teachers a lesson that stuck in my head and sticks in others heads too. The moral was never give up and never stop trying. Even though he described the book well he didn't describe it enough to make it boring. Some people say that the problem with this book is that there wasn't a main character. That can be exceptional or miserable but in my opinion that is extraordinary. I think having more than one main character is remarkable because the story isn't focused on one person but on three or four people. This makes the story more absorbing. The three main characters lives all connect. One is the best man in Doug's sisters wedding. Doug is taught to ride a bike by Red (the best man) and they all support each other and it shows different points of view.

This book was fantastic! It really explains how to become a true Olympian. I really encourage people to read this great book! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars awsome football book
The book was pretty good but it was kind of confusing.Butit was one of the best books I have read. Althoughis dad had to do some jail time he gets over that. There is a mystery in the book that leves him in trouble tring to play football.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tight End Review
I thought that Tight End was a very good book.I really enjoyed reading this book.

This book is about a High School kid named Jim.His father was in prison for robbing a company. Jim has a dad, mom and a sister Peg.Jim plays on the football team for his school he is a tight end and a guard on defense. Then one night a phone call came and it was for him, the caller made a threaten statement.Jim was confused and worried about this call.It was about his dad being an ex-convict and he should quit the football team.So he thought it had to be someone from the football making these calls. This suspicious person keeps calling more and more so Jim gets confused and worried even more.So him and this girl Margo from school decide to be detectives.Within a few days of becoming this detectives group Jim gets a letter. It has a picture of a guy robbing a business on it.The back has stocks so they looked through Stock magazines to see which one it came from. They found it in an August issue of a certain magazine. So they decided to call the suspects and see if they subscribed to this magazine. One of Jim's best friends Berry subscribed to the magazine and had the august issue.Well the picture was on page 55-56 and in his August issue it was gone. Also 2 of the other suspects subscribed or got the magazine from a friend.COULD IT BE BERRY OR ANOTHER SUSPECT OR SOMEONE OUT OF THE BLUE? Read the book to find out who was making those calls!!!!

I would recommend this book to people who like mystery, sports, football, and excitement.

3-0 out of 5 stars A intense fotball book.
This book was pretty confusing in the first part of the chapter.Soon, though, it got clearer when he stated telling how he got this problem.Thourgh out the rest of the book the main character is veryinformative. The book is very exciting if you like football. The maincharacter does go through some hard times with hi dad's problem but thisgives the book a plot.I think the kid in the book overeacts in the book tomuch.I think he just needs to relax. He gets to worked up over nothing.Iwould have to say this book is like other Matt Christopher books. There isalways a problem for the character in a sports action. But I think this bookwas a little more confusing and a little less interesting. The othercharacter are just helping the problem or solving it for him. These would behis friends and family.I would recommend this book to people who likefootball or any sports books. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Roller Skating Radials
I rated it 5 stars because I love hockey. Also because it was cool how they had a hockey team. I've tried that before and it's hard to start.

4-0 out of 5 stars sweet book!!!
This book was great, I think the moral is that kids can make a stand and should fight for what they want!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Roller Hockey Radicals is Awesome!
It's about Kirby and he moved to a different town. He wanted to find some friends. Eventually, found a roller hockey team called, " The E-Street Skates". It was exciting! It had a lot of info about roller hockey. This book was REALLY RADICAL!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for hockey enthusiasts ages 8-10
Danny Spottl, 3rd grade, The Piedmont School, High Point, NC. Kirby Childs moved with his parents from Minford to Valemont. It was summer break and most of the kids were at summer camp. So it was hard for Kirby to find kids to play with. Anyway, Kirby met some kids that were playing roller hockey on E Street. Soon, they invited him to play. The team played every Saturday against the Bates Avenue Bad Boys, which was the only other team in Valemont. The Bad Boys played rough and injured the E Street Skates' captain. The parking lot where they played also needed repair. Kirby's parents were worried and didn't want him to play. The team had a petition to raise money for the parking lot to be fixed. They also got a referee to make sure that the Bates Avenue Bad Boys couldn't break the rules. Now, Kirby's parents were happy that their 13-year old found friends to play with. My favorite character is Lainie because she is the E Street Skates' goalie. I also play goalie in my team, the Jamestown Hurricanes. I like the parts in the book where they report how the games are played. And I like the book a lot because it is about hockey which is my favorite sport.

5-0 out of 5 stars IT'S THE BEST BOOK I EVER READ!!!!!!!!!!!
I think every body who likes sports should read this book! It is about a boy named Kirby who just moved to Valemont and doesn't have anyone to play with. He ends up forming a roller hocky league and raising money to make a roller rink for the town. GREAT BOOK!! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Message Lost
My son who is 8 read this book for school and had to write a book report so I also read it in order to help him. Overall I wasn't impressed and although my son is a baseball fanatic he wasn't all that enthusiatic for the story as well.
The main plot of the story really gets lost in the endless descriptions of games. The story lacks a lot of details that might help to position it in the mind of the reader. Where does the story take place. How old are the kids? How is it possible that Bobby and Kirby are on the same Little League team when they are far enough apart in age that there is a sister between them?

And there are scenes in the book that add nothing to the story - like the scense with them in a tent watching a deer.

And the ending was bizarre. Other than it being a little unexpected how does it add anything to the main plot line??

Not the best story in my opinion.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Book Ever
This is a great book and the begining of the book is great because it has alot of detail on what happen. My favorit part of the book is when he hit a home run and went to the all-star.

3-0 out of 5 stars Long Strech at First Base
The main characters are Kirby and his little brother. They love the game of baseball. They could live on baseball. They play on a baseball team. They had to play a very good team and if they won the game they would be in first place. That means they are the best team.During that game they had the lead untill the end of the game when the other team came back and won. That put Kirby's team in third place. They thought they could have won the game. This book is not the best but not the worst.

2-0 out of 5 stars this book was boring
I gave long Long Stretch at First Base a 3. I gave it a three because it was a nice story, but it went kind of slow. The story was about a boy who is worried about his older brother who might not make the All- Star baseball team. During the story I couldn't understand why or how they were in a tent, and then all the sudden they were in the house.Overall it was a pretty good book. ... Read more

The Submarine Pitch By Matt Christopher

Have you ever found something that seemed
like nothing, but was something very important?
Well, that's what happens in The Submarine Pitch
by Matt Christopher. I recommend this book
because there's always something to keep you from
putting down the book. I learned that you should
never say someone can't do something unless you
have seen he can't do it.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Submarine Pitch
The Submarine Pitch by Matt Christopher is a okay book. It is about a boy named Bernie Shantz who used to play on a baseball team. His sister found a newspaper clipping in a vanity. 4-0 out of 5 stars Online Review on The Counterfeit Tackle
I liked how Buzz kept on thinking that someone was going to find out that him and Corky switch places. I think that Buzz is really smart because he is the chess champion of his school. Corky is like me because he likes sports and is popular. I thought it was weird that buzz has glasses and hates raisins. Corky loves raisins and doesn't have glasses. I like how they are identical twins but have different personalities. I thought that buzz and corky should have confessed to the whole team and not just to his coach and his friends. I thought that it was a very good book. I really like Matt Christopher books now. Now I think next time I do a book report I am going to read another Matt Christopher book because he writes good sports books and I love sports.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Counterfeit Tackle
It took place when one of the brothers wanted to go to the Bears-Giants football game but he had to go to his own football game. Buzz didn't like to play football very much but he did it for Corky. They were twins but Buzz wore glasses and Corky didn't. Buzz didn't wear his glasses during the game but he won the game by 5 points. Buzz had fun. I liked the book of The Counterfeit Tackle because it is like you are in the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Great "Counterfeit" Tackle
I read the book, the Counterfeit Tackle. It was about two main characters: Corky and Buzz. They face a huge dilemma. Corky plays tackle of the Otters football team. While Buzz's favorite sport is hardly a sport: Chess. Corky and Buzz look very alike, in fact their best friends can hardly tell them apart. Corky was invited to a Bears-Giants game, can Buzz switch places successfully and still be effective in the game that Corky will miss? To find out this and more read the, "Counterfeit Tackle.

The author, Matt Christopher has written many sports books (over 250) including the Counterfeit Tackle. He died in 1997. By his death America has lost one of the many great authors for Kids and Teens.

I think that the "Counterfeit Tackle" by Matt Christopher was a good book for many reasons. I think that Matt Christopher made a realistic plot and an overall good book. Although it was a good book, every book has it's flaws. Matt Christopher really didn't explain Corky's character as much as he could have, since he was one of the main characters. I give the book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars and would recommend people to read this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Counterfeit Tackle
If you're into football and hard hitting you'll love the book Counterfeit Tackle. It's about a boy, Mike Robbins, who is going to a N.F.L game, but decides to let his brother go instead. There's only one problem, Mike's brother has a football game and he's afraid if he misses a game he will be kicked off the team. Mike finds out that without his glasses no one can tell the diference between the two. So they decide to let Mike play in his brothers place. His brother teaches him to play his positions and how to tackle. If you want to know what happens at the game you'll have to read the book and find out what I did and you'll enjoy the book. ...
