My husband and I have had loads of fun quizzing each other on this great collection of Star Trek Trivia!! One of my favorite parts is where you have to match up the episode title to certain events, or characters, or planets, etc. ( Only the true geeks of trek, myself included, can even scratch the surface of this one!!) Overall, lots of fun for all Trek fans ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good STAR TREK right here!
DON'T BELIEVE THE NEGETIVE REVIEWS! This is an awesomely written book for young readers. Adults looking for a good Star Trek Voyager story will find some great writting in this book, but of course, the targeted audience is young readers. This book takes the life of Captain Janeway and adds life, color, dept, fun and plenty of insite to the life of a great Star Fleet officer; this really is the story of a young Captain Janeway! Learn from her mistakes, understand why she sees things in the unique way that Janeway has always seen them and enjoy life at the academy. This book is a must for true Janeway and Voyager fans.

Those really interested in all things ST:VOY, and Janeway in particular, MUST also read: Mosaic: A Novel. This book has the complete surprising, eye-popping, fun and amazing life story of Capt. Janeway; written by Jeri Taylor (the master-mind and one of the original creators of ST:VOY), Mosaic is an amzing peice of work. Mosaic is the geared for adults, but both is these books put together is a perfect look in to the wonderful life of Captain Janeway.

Also, check out Mosaic in tape: it's read by Kate Mulgrew; the actriss that plays Capt. Janeway on Star Trek Voyager!

2-0 out of 5 stars Shows some promise, but...
"Lifeline" is the first starfleet academy novel about Janeway.

The characterization is good, but there is virtually no story in this one. It is too much of a description about teenage-student life and serious storytelling is missing.

It's worth a read, especially if you like Janeway. After all, it gives us some bacround information about Janeway's first days in the academy, but it's nothing nearly as good as it perhaps might have been.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I am a huge Voyager fan and have read every book religiously. Needless to say, I was thrilled when I found this series. However, I was not prepared for this book to be written for teenagers. In fact, in the back of the book, there is an advertisement for "The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo", a Nickelodian sitcom. The book was good, just be prepared for this to be geared towards teenagers. If you are a Star Trek fan and you have teenage or pre-teen children, this is for you. Or, if you are a Voyager fan, its worth the read for the story.

1-0 out of 5 stars sucks
this book sucked although it was hard to put down. not enough action

5-0 out of 5 stars A good read for both Adults & Youth. Great artwork!
I own all three in this series (Voyager), and as I understand it, there won't be anymore due to low sales. Darn that bottom line! These are wonderful early Janeway stories; quick reads for adults, although a young person might need a little more time. The thing that drew me most to these books was the artwork. Can't quite remember the artist's name (wanna say Somebody Palmer? Jason?) They are black-and-white sketches that go perfectly with the storyline. All keepers for me, and I ain't no kid! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Too short
This was a good book that did good job in the field of characterization and decent one at the field of plotting.

It was however much too short.

Fortunately, the author who however held the book well in order, as she described the layers of Janeway's character with the help of an unoriginal, but well executed plot.

If you like Janeway ,and even if for some uncompehendable reason you dont; read it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Janeway's Cadet Years at Acadey
This book was about Janeway's first away Mission. She got stuck in quarintine at a planet and has to get out. But this is a problem for her and her fellow Cadet's. How will they get out? This book is very interesting, expecialy if you like Star Trek. I thought that the book should get five stars because of the discripsion. I like how in the book Janeway is Friends with Gordie, a character on the Next Generation show. I hope that you will read this book. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Perfect characterization, but no plot to be seen
It was short, it contained good character building, it had an uninteresting plot.

Not as good as I'd hoped, but you should read it anyway because of the insight on the character of Kathryn Janeway, wich repairs some of the damage caused by not-so-good plotting, short lenght and uninteresting side-characters.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great glimpse into a favorite personality.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting look at the pressures Jean-Luc faced...
Vivid illustration of the typical father-son struggle. People tend to stereotype mothers & daughters being in conflict, so it's high time someone recognized father-son conflict as well. Jean-Luc was right to follow his own instincts and not let his father cow him into a life he didn't want. Also good was the portrayal of the jealousy of his brother Robert and how that made being close brothers difficult. One thing I would change that seemed a bit unrealistic: Why in the twenty-third century does Yvette Picard seem to be stuck doing most of the housework just to please Maurice? Other than that, I liked how Yvette stood by her son when he decided to apply at the academy again. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A dissapointing book full of stereotypical characters
All in all I enjoy reading these novellas set in the characters' past.

They have some problems, still. First of all, they are way too short.

Secondly: the characters are teenagers. I am 15 myself and that's probably the biggest reason I don't like young characters (in anything).

    Why?

Because they act about 3 to 5 years younger than they should (in Wesley Crusher's case: about 10).

The starfleet academy books, in general, have been fairly believable in this field, although the characters still sometimes feel a bit immature.

This particular book uses characters that behave, in my opinion, like people behave when they are about 12 years old. Plus they are complete stereotypes.

For example the teamleader is a young male human who has joined starfleet because of his father. (Has anyone ever joined becase of his/her mother, brother, sister cousin...?)

I bought this book in hopes of a view to the character of Geordi LaForge, but to my dissapointment he was characterized poorly, and didn't even feel like the main character.

The plot was weak, the storytelling predictable... It's barely readable, but dont waist your money on it.

3-0 out of 5 stars the haunted spaceship
I thought is was a little bit dissapointing considering what the plot was in general but for the most part it was good and I really enjoyed the twists that it took in a few places.

1-0 out of 5 stars oh, ICK!
Maybe I'm just too old for this series, but this one seemed worse than normal. The whole ghost idea was pretty dumb in the first place. Don't buy unless you're trying to get all the books like I am. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Peter David's books can't be bad!
Even if meant for kids, this is a very nice books. And if you're planning to read Peter David's "New Frontier" books (or if you alread read them!), make sure to read these 3 books (this is only the first part) and re-discover some of the characters
Anyway, your really can NOT go wrong with any book by Peter David.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worf's First Adventure
This is a great book. I think everyone should read this book.
My favrite part is when the Romulans attack. On average I
would rate this book a 4.

5-0 out of 5 stars Marvelous
Peter David's writing is fantastic and James Fry's artwork is beautiful.

All of this make a story. On the other hand, this bookis only the beginning of Worf's story. I really can imagine what Worf's Academy days like thanks to this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
If you liked this book then I would definitely reccommend any of the New Frontier books by Peter David. You get to find out what happened to Soleta, Kebron and Mark later on in life.....

3-0 out of 5 stars New Frontier fans, take note
This series of 3 Young Adult books detail Worf's days at Starfleet Academy.
