4-0 out of 5 stars great reference tool
This is a detailed and interesting book about dinosaursfor kids. It's very up-to-date. It has dinosaurs we've never heard of before. Who knew that there was a dinosaur for every letter of the alphabet? Now we know! In the starting of the book there are very informative sections such as How Are Dinosaurs Discovered?, How are they named?, How are they grouped?, and what is a dinosaur!

The book was very easy for children to use.Lots of kids are interested in learning more about dinosaurs and this is a great tool for them

This book would be helpful to elementary students when writing reports on Dinosaurs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great new book for kids who've read all the dinosaur books
This is a detailed, interesting book about dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures for kids. It's very up-to-date.It has dinosaurs we've never heard of before. It's also not as sensational and gory as some.My son is 6 and has read most of the dinosaur books at the library, and he loved finding this one recently.I'm getting it for him for Christmas because he'll never get tired of it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Work book
I bought this because my 6 year old wanted it. I didn't have a really big expectation, just thought maybe it would help a good reader get better. He LOVES IT! he finished the entire workbook in 1 night! I kept asking if he wanted to stop and he said no. He just kept going. GREAT BOOK!!I'll get the rest of them now.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very basic 2nd grade work
I bought this as summer work for my son, who is going into 2nd grade. This is a very basic phonic work book, with simple blends. As a review work it was ok, but it didn't cover all of his first grade phonic lessons. If your child is a good reader, or reading at 2nd grade level, this book is not very challenging. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not what was advertised
I bought this book so my son could work on the number 11-20 since this was the first counting book that I have seen that goes past 10. However, after I received the book, I realized that it only teaches to 10 with a few pages at the very end having counting problems that go past 10. But it never teaches or covers those numbers. I will be returning the book and making my own worksheets for my child. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars All information needed to score well
I admit that I am a grammar geek. I studied this book for hours, and had a blast doing it. The book has a diagnostic test, descriptions of the 3 questions types, essay tips for the 20-minute essay, the obligatory generic test-taking tips, and 6 sample tests with answers. I do wish they had included how to calculate your score for the sample tests, but at least there were explanations of every answer. I timed myself on one of their essay questions to make sure I would be able to complete it when taking the test and did one test-length set of multiple-choice questions. Most of their grammar review was clear. A book like this is essential for this test because the SAT II Writing tests formal English, which has some archaic rules that no one in their right mind actually uses. (Ex: "off of" is incorrect in formal usage). Even a person who speaks good English needs to study for this test. English, writing, and grammar happen to be my strong points, but without this book I'm sure I would have scored lower than the 760 I received.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
Outlines all the basic stuff you need to know to score high on the test. Correct grammar, correct writing style, and many other things are discussed. After giving it a cursory glance, I learned a few new things I hadn't known before. My score of 660 will most likely go up to at least 750 after using this book. Still, the book could be better. Like most other books, it is boring, and it does not present the information in a way that will stick with you forever.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really Good
This book was great. The insruction was easy to follow. The best part about this book was the examples- they used real sentences instead of "Jack and jill had tea" to prove their points in grammar.Themultiple practice tests were just like the real thing!BUY THIS BOOK! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Reading Is A Big Deal!
This story is presented in an amusing way. It captures "real life" scenarios through its illustrations that most students can relate to. However, the message of this adventurous character is a serious one. The little boy ,without a name, could be any boy or girl that experiences difficulties in everyday life because he or she cannot read signs, messages, etc. Thus, the meaningful message is that reading is really necessary. The "bad dream" of not being able to read does not have to become a "nightmare". The ending leaves the listener and the reader with a sense of empowerment if they can already read and leaves the emergent reader with purpose and hope for learning to read.

Teacher Note: This book is a must for your classroom library. Place it on your beginning of the year reading list. Preschoolers, kindergarteners, first graders, and struggling second graders can all benefit and be encouraged from the practical uses of knowing how to read. The author and illustrator study of Mr. Gile and Mr. Fiorello will lend themselves to positive classroom discussions.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST for all Elementary Education teachers!
I really liked this book because it shows children, in a fun way, why it is important for them to know how to read. To be safe, children need to know how to read signs, to know where there is potential danger. That's only a small part of the importance of functional literacy, but a very important one. ... Book Description

Delightful and inspiring tales of some of the most fascinating and awesome women of colonial times

American history is rife with stories of our founding fathers, but what of the women who lived and worked alongside these men? This fun and exciting book whisks young readers back to early America, introducing them to a refreshing assortment of brave and unique American women of colonial times.Readers will be amazed by the stories of such remarkable colonial women as Mumbet, a slave who won her freedom in a Massachusetts courtroom in the 1780s; Mercy Warren, whose passionate plays about the Revolution thrust her onto the theater scene as America's first female playwright; and Peggy Arnold, the wife of Benedict Arnold, who was as formidable a spy as her notorious husband. With these enlightening profiles, Mary Rodd Furbee brings these strong and influential women to life to encourage, inspire, and delight young readers.

Mary Rodd Furbee (Morgantown, WV) is a part-time writing and journalism instructor at West Virginia University School of Journalism and has written for many publications. She is the author of five children's books, including Anne Bailey, Frontier Scout; and Mary Ingles, Indian Captive. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It's an good introduction to revolutionary history
The book tells the history of a wide range of women characters that played important roles during the revolutionary period. The style is very readable and holds your attention. The author does a good job of blending the important moments of history with enough of a personal portrait of the women, to make you want to keep turning the pages and learn more. The layout is very nice too with lots of great pictures and diagrams. It gives a good presentation of the multicultural America that was emerging at this time and shows this diversity without making us feel like it's forced. It's obvious that the author knows her subject. I bought it to help my thirteen year old in history and it was a hit with her.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun, tough, inspirational women
Lively writing enhances the wonderful stories of the women that Mary Furbee features in her book. The women, from all types of backgrounds, inspire young girls to face adversity head on. As we all search for role models in the face of media onslaughts, these women are strong, smart and unique individuals. The writing and the strong descriptive components, combined with interesting historical details, provide a sense of the world and the times in which these women lived. Wonderful stuff! ...
