5-0 out of 5 stars New uses for old toys
My kids got tired of their toys. i got tired of buying them new ones. So I found this book and discovered through it....new uses for the toys they already had. It was like buying all new toys. I cannot recommend this book enough if you don't want to go out and buy new toys. And, it teaches kids the science behind the toys, which is an added benefit.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is Fun +++++
I bought this book at a bookstore and liked the content. It is a very easy to use book to use with children. I have used it with my kindergarten kids and my kids who are older at home. There are so many good ideas and concepts to learn that even we teachers can learn from it! I like the book very much...in fact so much that I am going toget this author's other books through Amazon!

5-0 out of 5 stars Science in Seconds with Toys
My kids got tired of their toys. We do not have the money to buy new ones, so my eye caught this book. I LOVE IT!!!. The book gives a whole new adventure to our kids toys. They not only learned some important science concepts with them...they now look at all of their toys and try to think of other ways to use them. This book saved me money and taught my children some important academics! I highly recommend! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cuddling Teddy Roosevelt?!
Cuddling Teddy Roosevelt is kinda strange...but cuddling a soft bear is better. Who would've known that the teddy bear was named after a president!
In this children's picture book, children will be amazed that they know a bit of history after they read this beautifully written/illustrated book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teddy Love!
This book appeals to all teddy bear lovers- young and old! It is a great way to share history with children. My kindergarten class throughly enjoyed it cover to cover! A must for anyone who ever had / or has a teddy bear!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Priceless Response
I didn't read the book. I gave it as a birthday gift to my niece who is a teddy bear enthusiast. The rating I gave was based upon her overwhelming response to the book.

She was so taken with the story that she excitedly wrote a letter to the author. To his credit, the author responded with a handwritten letter that, along with the book, became a show-and-tell project for her 2nd grade class. She talks about the whole thing with stars in her eyes. It's truly priceless.

I give 5 stars to both the book and the author.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book
The Legend of the Teddy Bear is a "must have" book for every home. It's a beautifully illustrated story that all children will enjoy while actually learning a piece of history. Imagine a child in your life explaining the story to an adult who doesn't know how the teddy bear got his name! This book belongs on all bookshelves, it will captivate children and adults alike. Looking forward to reading more from Frank Murphy! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Accident waiting to happen
I bought this book thinking how cool it would be for an 8-year-old nephew. But I am blown away by the number of ways a kid could get hurt or even killed by following the advice in this book. After a very brief and largely useless "safety first" warning, the author goes on to suggest such things as snow forts that use car hoods and other heavy objects as the roof -- with snow packed on top, no less. If the kid isn't crushed or suffocated in his nifty new fort, he probably will die of lock-jaw from the cut he gets on the rusty edge of the car hood -- or from the old windows that the author suggests are the perfect thing for lean-to forts. Does this guy live next to a junk yard? There are several cool ideas in the book, but none that a kid probably couldn't come up with on his own -- especially if mom and dad say, "Yeah, go ahead. Anything and everything you can find to drag into the backyard is ok with us." Several of the tee-pee/wigwam forts are just fine if a kid is in the woods with lots of deadfall. Otherwise, the environment is going to take a hit -- as are the $180 trees that the neighbors just planted last spring. Which is nothing compared to the hospital bill you'll have for the 19 stitches required to close up the gash from the suggested use of a scythe or weed cutter to "gather handfuls of grass or hay no shorter than 15 inches." Send 'em over to my yard; my lawn needs mowing. Seriously, folks. This book should be recalled.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book your kids will go back to time and time again.
As a mother of three and a a daycare provider I highly recommend this "get up and build" book. The ideas for fort building will spark your childs imagination and they'll go back time and again to look for ideas for indoor and outdoor forts. This book can save a mom on a snow day- as long as you don't mind what will be created!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a terrific book for making your first teddy bear!
This book is recommended for ages 10 and up but as an adult I found it exciting and useful as well as a child would. There are step by step instructions on how to make a 16 inch teddy bear (which is rather large) in clear and concise instructions. The first part teaches you how to make a teddy bear much like a cookie cut out in just one piece. The second part details how to make a 16 inch teddy bear. The last part of the book illustrates how to make simple clothes to dress your bear.

There are informational boxes scattered throughout to explain the terms used like how to make a dart. I found the instructions to be readily understood and I successfully made my first teddy bear.

The only drawback is that the only color photo is on the cover of the book. The book only contains black and white line drawings inside. It would have been helpful to have had more photos to use as a guide. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for the teddy bear enthusaist!!!
This was a great book. It tells you everything from the history of teddy bears to little bear legends. I love teddy bears and found this book very interesting. My only complaint was that it was a tad short. If you love teddy bears then you'll love this book. It's great for any age to enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars what a pleasure
This book is a great read-aloud. My son was drawn to his "favorite" bears like Pooh and Paddington, then was happy to stick around and learn about actual, unusual teddy bears. We loved the story about the one on the Titanic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for all ages.
This is a beautifully written and illustated book. Wonderful to read to toddlers and younger children and a treat for older children (of all ages). The Teddy Roosevelt story is worth the whole book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Utterly charming
Many people don't know it, but a stuffed animal's personality is formed when he or she is made in the factory. And when a teddy bear is sewn with slightly crooked eyes and a tight mouth, it can make that bear a bit of a snob. So how can that bear stand the indignity when he's taken home by Mrs. Broom, treated as a doll by her youngest daughter, threatened by George the pyromaniac, and carted away by the rag and bone man? And that's just the beginning of our teddy's adventures! A very clever book, full of warmth, with and wordplay, and one that adults will enjoy right along with their children. An excellent book!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bear Nobody Wanted
This is my favorite book of all time. It's sad but sweet. A teddy bear is made in a factory with a proud looking face, and is very vain. No one seems to want him, and he goes through many and many owners, all which treat him with no love or care. Over the years, he gets very worn and old looking, and as all of his experiences have taught him, he becomes not so selfidh anymore and thinks about others. In the end he finally finds his place, which makes it a happy ending.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT BOOK
THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ. IT HAS AN IMAGINATIVE STORYLINE BUT A REALISTIC GROUNDING. THE READER ITSELF TAKES THE ROCKY JOURNEY WITH THIS TEDDY BEAR INTO ADVENTURE AND FEELS EACH EMOTION WITH THE CHARACTER. NOT ONLY WILL THIS BOOK LEAVE THE READER REFRESHED BUT IT WILL MAKE A SOFT SPOT IN EACH OF YOUR HEART'S FOR ALL THAT IS AROUND YOU. IF NOT MY WORD TAKE THE WORD OF THE OTHER REVIEWERS FOR THIS BOOK MOST DEFINITLY BELONGS IN THE BEST OF THE BEST SELECTION OF OUR TIME!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great story a must for children and adults alike
