Book Description

What's better than a cat to scare away mice? "Why don't we try taming the cat?" said Tom Little. Uncle Pete looked from Mrs. Little to Mr. Little. "Do you hear what the boy is saying? He's gone soft in the head. A cat has never been a friend to a Little. I can tell you that." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Littles
Hi! My name is Cindy. I am nine years old. I just finished reading a book called The Littles, and it is by John Peterson. The book is about a little family that lives inside the wall of Mr. Bigg's house. They look a lot like humans, but they are small and they have tails. Everyday they go to the kitchen and get some food that are leftovers from Mr. Bigg's dinner. Those in the family are the grandfather, grandmother, Tom the brother, Lucy the sister, mom and dad. One evening Mr.Bigg wanted to go for a vacation, and he wanted to rent his house. For one week a lady named Lizzy and a man named Mr. Newcomb rented Mr. Bigg's house. These people didn't eat much so the Littles wanted them to leave. They wanted Mr. Bigg to come back from his vacation. They had a plan to get rid of these people. The plan was to scare them into thinking that the house had mice. ...

I liked this book because it is a chapter book. I want everyone to read this book. I give this book five stars because it is so good.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Littles, reviewed by Hershel
This is a wonderful book about crafty little people. They were a size of the thumb and had a tail. Rats were attacking them. Littles used little knifes that they made to fight them. Mr. Big always wondered why his phone system was working so well. He did not know that the Littles were living in his house. The Littles fixed the phone system. The Biggs went away for vacation for the summer and Newcomes rented the house. The Newcomes were very messy. Rats came into the house. Tom Little decided to play a trick on Newcomes and dressed as a rat. He wanted them to set mouse traps. But the Newcomes decided to bring in a cat. The Littles were very scared and they wanted to get rid of the cat. But Tom became friends with the cat. I loved the book because the Littles were always solving their problems. I would recommend this book to my friends. I will read other books by John Peterson.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
I remember enjoying these books years ago. My son who is four has really enjoyed reading chapter books at night. So I bought this one, and he loved it.

The Littles are tiny people with tails. They live in the walls of the home of the Biggs. The Littles use odds and ends that the Biggs no longer need to build an elevator, eat etc.

In this story the Biggs go on vacation and the Littles have new big people living in the home. For three weeks the Newcombs don't take out the garbage and mice come. There is excitement and bravery.

This is an adorable book. We are buying more.

Enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful!
Behind the walls of the George W. Bigg home live the Littles, a family whose tallest member measures six inches. Like the Borrowers (a favorite with me in childhood), the Littles get their living by appropriating whatever they need from the giants whose home their share. ....

Delightful! An exciting story that has plenty of action without being overly frightening. I look forward to reading this one to my small nephew.

4-0 out of 5 stars Read The Littles!
The Littles are people who are under six inches tall and have tails. They live in the wall of the Bigg's house and have a secret door in the kitchen. I liked this story because it has good characters. They had good ideas about how to get rid of the mice. I didn't like Uncle Pete very much because he only likes weapons.
I would recommend this book to other kids. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You shouldn't miss it! ¡¥The Littles Go Exploring¡¦
Once I saw this book ¡¥The Littles Go Exploring¡¦,
written by John Peterson, the natural colour and the beautiful picture of the cover attract me to choose this book.
The story was said about some tiny people who went exploring to find an old man called Grandpa Little. He was a smart man who was the first little to understand electricity and had made the trip to explore the place, but unfortunately he is unsuccessful and lost his way.
After I read it,I think the most interesting part was the part about the Littles family found Grandpa Little.they tries to solve all theproblems when they went exploring.
I think the main character Tom and Lucy were the cleverest and bravest children in the family. They told their parents immediately when they discovered the secret room and they discuss with them.It shows that they were cooperative with the family members. Also, when UncleNick said that he needed two volunteers to go along,Tom answered that he could go very quickly.he didn¡¦t mind to lose his life tio find Grandpa Little. And Lucy, she was curious about everything and had her own decisions.Although she was very little, she provided a lot of opinions about the plan to find Grandpa Little. It shows that she was a wise girl and did all the things sensibly.
I really enjoy this book because of two reasons.First of all,I think the story is very interesting,it made me easily to put in it.Also,it is very meaningful, because it can tell us a lot of things about our life.I hope I can make myself clever, brave, confidentand mature like Tom and Lucy.I think this book is suitable for everyone,so I think you shouldn¡¦t miss it!

5-0 out of 5 stars It is a book about little people.
I think this is a good book because it keeps you interested. This is probably the best book I ever read. Let me tell you what the book is about. The story is about old Grandpa Little who everyone thinks is dead except Granny Little until Tom and Lucy find a secret room with Grandpa Little's journal. And then the Littles go exploing to find out that Grandpa Little is not dead. This is a good book for any age and so are all The Littles books. If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the littles and the lost children
MY RESPONSE:I like this book because I am not a good reader and it was really easy to read.
HOW I FEEL ABOUT THIS BOOK:It is really good and easy to read.
PRESENTATIONS:I decided to read this book because the cover caught my eye.
THEMES:It is about two little kids called Winkie and Tip whose camp gets attacked by mice and a cat. Then Major Nick Little, the captain of the mouse brigade, saved them but they could not see their parents.
CHARACTERS:The main characters are Winkie and Tip.

EVENTS:There are wars with the mice and with the cat. They think that Winkey and Tips parents are dead.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not sure if I like it.
My son's favorite reading is about The Littles. In this book, however, I had mixed feelings about the subject matter. Two children are separated from their parents (bad). They are found and taken in by strangers who end up treating them as their own children (good). They get united many years later with their natural parents. This can be handled in many emotional ways (not necessarily in good ways) depending on the reader's experiences and imagination.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good book for everyone!
See how the world is from a "Littles" point of view. You can share there adventures and think different about your very own house. This is a great book for little kids. I reccomend this book for everyone, but assppesialy little kids. RL3 ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Littles to the Rescue
The book had adventure, fun, mystery and danger. The Little Family had to go look for Aunt Lilly after she falls from cousin Dinke's glider. The small family must explore the world of regular size people to find Aunt Lilly. The Little Family use a family cat for their ride as they search the forest. While in the forest they meet large animals and other tiny people called tree and ground tinies. The book ends with the rescue of Aunt Lilly and a journey back to their home in the house of the Big's family. I ernjoyed reading this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
Living on this Earth, right under our very noses, is a race of tiny people. They are not dwarfs or elves, but simply tiny people, six inches tall at the most and possessing beautiful, furry tails. And in the home of the Biggs, lives a family of these tiny people, called the Littles.

In this book, Mrs. Little is coming due for the birth of her baby. But, with a snowstorm covering the area, the Littles decide that they must telephone Aunt Lily (a nurse from four houses away - quite a long distance) and tell her NOT to come. However, when a human intercepts the call, Aunt Lily decides that the call was a call for help, and she and Cousin Dinky set off in his glider. Disaster strikes when a gust of wind throws Lily out of the glider, and now it is up to the Littles to stage a rescue. It's a dangerous world out there for a little person, and Aunt Lily has fallen into adventures in a big wood!

I am a fan of Mary Norton's Borrowers books, and was saddened by the knowledge that there would never be any more. When I discovered Mr. Peterson's Littles books I was overjoyed, hoping that these would be just as good. Well, I wasn't disappointed!

The story in this book is charming, and quite entertaining. My children and I were thrilled with the story, and look forward to reading more of the adventures of the Littles. We highly recommend this book to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Third Book in The Littles Series
In "The Littles to the Rescue", Mrs. Little is expecting her third child, and, by tradition, she wants Aunt Lily to deliver it. However, Aunt Lily and her son, Cousin Dinky, live four houses away, which is quite a distance for Tinies (little creatures--approximately 4 - 6 inches tall--that vaguely resemble elves with tails). Nevertheless, Cousin Dinky pilots his mother in his glider plane to the Littles' residence, even though it's in the middle of the night and snowing. However, during the trip, Aunt Lily falls out of the plane and is captured by the reclusive Ground Tinies. A search party is formed to locate Aunt Lily, with the added help of a cat and skunk, who remarkably don't make a meal out of the Littles. But will they find her in time?

This was one of my favorite books (and cartoon series) when I was a kid. It was given to me by my grandmother when I was about eight-years-old. Not only are the black-and-white illustrations terrific, but the Littles are extremely resourceful and imaginative in this story, using most things people throw away as tools, decorations, etc. My only two complaints are that the book has a rather abrupt ending (or perhaps there's a page missing from my book; I have had it for about 15 years), and that it's a bit ...., though younger readers may not pick up on this. Still, "The Littles to the Rescue" is a fun adventure story for children age 7 - 10. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Littles to the Rescue
I am 7 years old and in 2nd grade.I like to read about the Littles because they are always having fun adventures. This story was interesting when the Littles traveled by rabbits, a cat, and a skunk.I try to think how much fun and how fast I could go on these animals. I like how the Littles get help from animals. I thought Aunt Lily was not going to make it in time for the baby.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Terrible Tiny Kid Sure is Terrible!
The Littles are tiny, tiny people who live in the walls of normal sized peoples houses. They lead a nice, happy life: They eat for dinner the scraps of the Bigg's(the normal- sized family they live with) supper, they ride places of the Bigg's cat, Hilly, and there two young children, Lucy and Tom, hardly ever get into mischeif. But suddenly, while Tom and Lucy are on the Bigg's roof in the sun, they see two little children almost there own ages climbing a tree, trying to escape from a playful dog chasing them. After they rescue them, they bring them back to there own little house. It turns out they live in the city, and there stranded at the Littles home until they find a way to contact there parents. But one problem. Midge and Chip are wild. Soon their bedroom is a mess, the strings in the Little's tin can elevator are horribly tangled, Henry Bigg's paraket is loose, and they have knocked over the honey jar tracking sticky footprint's in the Bigg's kitchen. It look's like they have a terrible tiny kid on there hands!

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great book!

In this book, the Littles' children grow tired of watching young Henry Bigg play with his friends, and yearn to have friends of their own. When Cousin Dinky, the only tiny person who travels, suggests that the tiny families of the area can have a get-together, the children seize on the idea, and with the help of Granny Little make it happen. But going out into the big world brings more adventures than the Littles every could have expected!

What a great book! I am a fan of Mary Norton's Borrowers books, and was saddened by the knowledge that there would never be any more. When I discovered Mr. Peterson's Littles books I was overjoyed, hoping that these would be just as good. Well, I wasn't disappointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Big Adventure Away from the Biggs for the Littles
Researchers constantly find that reading to children is valuable in a variety of ways, not least of which are instilling a love of reading and improved reading skills. With better parent-child bonding from reading, your child will also be more emotionally secure and able to relate better to others. Intellectual performance will expand as well. Spending time together watching television fails as a substitute.

To help other parents apply this advice, as a parent of four I consulted an expert, our youngest child, and asked her to share with me her favorite books that were read to her as a young child. The Littles Take a Trip was one of her picks.

If you do not yet know the Littles, you should. They are tiny people (six inches or less tall) who live undetected in the Bigg's house. They are just like full-size people, except that they have tails! Being a Little has one big drawback. You cannot easily go visit others. This makes it tough for the children, who do not have other children to play with. Instead, they spend way too much time watching the Biggs (like human children watch television).

Their source of information about the other families is Cousin Dinky, who is quite an adventurer. He travels from house to house using his glider to bring the mail from one family to another and to share stories of his adventures and of the other small families. The Little parents are fearful of ever leaving their house because of danger from animals, and think that Cousin Dinky is quite rash.

In this story, the Littles decide (at the urging of the children and with the encouragement of Cousin Dinky) to visit the other families who live nearby. This has never happened before. With Cousin Dinky's help, several families will converge at the home of the Smalls. Fortunately, Tom (the ten year old) has tamed the Henry Bigg's cat who will let them ride to the Smalls' house. All is going smoothly until a baseball hits the cat, and she darts into the dangerous woods. There the Littles learn a lot about life, danger, and their own capabilities.

This book directly addresses the fearfulness and dependency that many children feel because they are small and vulnerable. The book's message is that you can do anything you set your mind to. It's not safe to do so because you can take all risk out, but rather because you can handle the risks as they arise because you are an active, thinking person. And other people will help you!

I liked the wonderful role reversals in the story. At first, a skunk is viewed as a threat. But a skunk can be a great resource if he is your friend because he can run off other marauders. Also, the Littles learn that their insulated life style is costing them a lot of the freedom, excitement, and companionship that life has to offer. Safety has a cost that can be too great, as a result.

After you and your child finish enjoying this story, I suggest that you each share with the other where you are holding back from trying things because of safety concerns. Then you should discuss how any valid concerns could be handled so the risk is appropriate. In this way, you can arm each other with good thinking skills to address dangers in the most appropriate way . . . rather than let dangers inhibit you from acting. By being open and helpful to each other, you will also improve the quality of your relationship at the same time.

Live big, appropriately . . . regardless of your size and age!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book says Savannah
When I read this book I thought the book was the best book I've ever read. The Littles Take a Trip is the best book I've read this year. I think that the book should receive a prize because there are very good parts in this book. There was a part in the book that The Littles went to see the other families but they could not because there was no way to get to their families homes. Their families homes were a street away and The Littles were scared that they might get lost. The Littles had an Uncle named Pete. He delivered the mail to their home. Uncle Pete has an airplane he flies to go to the other homes. Uncle Pete came and showed the Littles the way to get to the other homes and they had some trouble on the way but were able to get to the other home on time . There is a lot of adventure in this story so that it keeps you interested!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and exciting adventure story for boys and girls.
The Littles are "little people" that live in the Biggs house. Lucy and Tom Little are very lonely. They wanted to meet friends their own size. Cousin Dinky came up with a brilliant idea about traveling to another "little" family's home. The Littles are a daring family. You will like their adventures ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great story for 2nd Graders
This book is that follows the true Littles story. This is very helpful for those children who need to read small amounts and retain the information for reivews, etc. Our school (a Christian school) promotes this series as one that the children can read not only from an academic standpoint, but also from a interesting perspective for the children.

This particular book also teached the children about weather - effects, results, and what action to take.

I hope all who purchase it for their children enjoy it. ... Read more
