5-0 out of 5 stars Can't Wait for the Next book!
Evil Lord Sparr has frozen all of Jaffa City up and it is up to Eric, Neal, Julie, and Princess Keeah to save Jaffa City and the rest of Droon. If the problem isn't hard enough already the only weapon they have is snowballs! The problem gets worse when the great wizard Galen Longbeard is frozen up. Will the kids save Jaffa City? Can they unfreeze Galen Longbeard? I highly recommend this book because it is a great page turner!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great series!
My daughter loves these books and reads each one in one day! Highly recommend for 7-10 age group

4-0 out of 5 stars A favorite for early readers
Tony Abbott's Droon series engages kids far more than adults. To an adult the simplified, rather wooden language and characters can seem bland and boring. But events move quickly, odd characters proliferate, and a child is introduced to a land with its own geography, history, and rules. This is a great way to introduce an early reader to the pleasures of fantasy. The books increase in length and (slightly) in complexity, rewarding the child who is growing in proficiency. Droon can be a compelling first chapter book series-- my son has read each of 18 or so books at least three times. One note-- the books are easily appropriate for children younger than nine. Most second graders and many first graders will find them accessible.

2-0 out of 5 stars Harry Potter
This book has short chapters, and would be easy to read for the early grade levels. The dialogue between the characters is childlike (though to say that is an insult to children) and full of exclamations like, 'Wow' and 'Oh, my gosh!' At first I thought the written sound effects, 'Blam,' 'Swoosh,' and 'Yikes!' added to the visualization of the story, but then it just became annoying. I would hope that children would recognize the overly simplistic characters of the 'Secrets of Droon' series and I believe that they would become bored with the books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Droon is fun for everyone !

3-0 out of 5 stars The Sleeping Giant of Goll
This book is The Sleeping Giant of Goll. The characters are Eric, Julie, Neal, and Sparr. It starts in an island with talking trees. This is a fiction book.
These three kids enter a secret stairway to Droon where weird things happen like trees can attack. But there's a evil guy named Sparr who wants to take over Droon. Now Sparr unleashed a old giant to help him take over Droon. Then a mysterios blue dragon comes to kill the giant.
I rcamond this book because it's really funny.

2-0 out of 5 stars More drivel in Droon
Although my first-grader begs for these books when we see them in the bookstore, they rarely hold her interest past one reading. The writing is sophomoric, the situations and characters so derivative as to be generic. With many wonderful children's books in the world, why resort to the uninventive world of Droon?

5-0 out of 5 stars Great children' book
My 8 soon to be 9 years old son read this book and was not only fascinated by it, but have to read it again. Only Harry Potter was able to do this to him once. I'm just happy to have found such a great book and in series, so it can provide him with great fun and good educational entertainment. Now we are totally hook and will continue getting the rest of the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Series Keeps Improving!
This book is sheer pleasure. But if you're unfamiliar with Tony Abbott's magical realm of Droon, DON'T START HERE! The Sleeping Giant of Goll is our intrepid trio's sixth action-filled travelogue down the MAGIC STAIRCASE. Young readers, as well as those you read to, should accompany Eric, Julie, and Neal through each adventure in order, making fantastic friends (here, the furry Oobja), avoiding fearsome foes (such as the resurrected colossus, Zor), and learning Droon's mystical lore. Unlike some chapter books, each Droon visit surpasses its predecessor. Rather than repeating a simple formula, the author weaves a rich and intricate web from one book to the next. Abbott consistently rewards frequent readers with subtle linkage to preceding events, just as he tantalizes with insight into unsolved riddles and future challenges. I marvel at Mr. Abbott's discipline in encouraging teamwork and maintaining gender neutrality -- Droon's Princess Keeah and the upper-world's Julie share responsibility (for both success and failure) with Eric and Neal; similarly, both of Princess Keeah's parents, King Zello the Viking and the shape-shifting Queen Relna, willingly stand alone toe-to-toe against the evil sorcerer Lord Sparr. My son cannot wait for more wisdom from the wizard Gaelen, adventure with the spider-troll Max, or pursuit from Ninns upon winged-groggles, and he's right. I look forward to number 7 -- the Secrets of Droon is about as good as it gets! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth your time
This book is uninspired pap with undifferentiated characters and poor plotting involving deus ex machina. It intends to be humorous but isn't. I recommend Deltora Quest instead.

4-0 out of 5 stars Elf King Review
I read the Tower of the Elf King by Tony Abbott. I would rate the book a four. I liked that the book went into a different worlds. The book was interesting because there were weird creatures that you could only imagine. The book made you look at life in a diffrent way. I would recommend the book to everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite Droon book so far!
Eric, Julie and Neal all dreamed about very weird things, which could only be from one place, Droon. Droon was the magical world they had found, and the secret entrance happened to be in Eric's basement! When they get there, there's a rumor flying around that someone's robbed the Lumpie's village! Eric, Julie, Neal and Princess Keeah must find the culprit, but do they? This book was absolutely spectacular! Read the TOWER of the ELF KING!

4-0 out of 5 stars good book
this book was ok. not one of the best books in the world but it was well written. any way, i do recommend it

5-0 out of 5 stars My favrorite Lumpie book
I liked this book because it is funny. My favrorite character is the Lumpies because in book #2 Neal thought the Lumpies were pillows. Phew, Eric didn't dream of banging a garbage can. Neal didn't dream of sitting in the middle of a pizza and eating his way out to the crust. I loved reading this book because it is really good. I wonder what Keeah's mother will be in the next book. This is my favrorite Secrets of Droon so far I think I will like #10. Secrets of Droon is my favrorite kind of book. I would recommend this book to you. If you get this book you should get #1 because the stories connect. All of the books are good. They all have a happy ending. You should get all of the Secret of Droons. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Secrets Of Droon
My name is Jake Grass I have read all of the Secrets Of Droon books. The Secrets Of Droon is just like The Magic Tree House but I think The Secrets Of Droon is lots better than the Magic tree house.

4-0 out of 5 stars THE SECRETS OF DROON ( books)
MY DAUGHTER AND I STARTED ON THE DROON BOOKS IN THE MIDDLE OF SECOND GRADE. AFTER I READ THE FIRST THREE BOOKS TO HER SHE WAS HOOKED. SHE STARTED TAKING THE BOOKS TO SCHOOL, SHE WOULD READ THEM IN THE MORING WHILE SHE WAITED FOR THE BUS, THEN ON THE BUS, THEN AT SCHOOL AT READING TIME AND QUITE TIME. IF YOU WOULD OF TOLD ME MY 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WOULD BE CARING AROUND BOOKS AND READING ON HER OWN BECAUSE SHE WANTED TO 6 MONTHS AGO I WOULD NOT HAVE BELIEVED IT. THESE STORYS KEEP YOU INTESTED AND ARE GREAT EARLY READER BOOKS. I EVEN FIND MYSELF ASKING HER WHEN SHE GET HOME WHAT HAPPED TO A CHARACTOR OR WHAT HAPPED FROM WERE WE LEFT OFF LAST.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mom approves!
As the parent of a 8 year old boy I am very happy with the Secrets of Droon series. They fullfill my sons need for adventure, excitement and suspense. These stories have a "Harry Potter-esque" tone to them but are more age appropriate for my 8 year old to read. (Kind of Harry Potter meets the Magic Treehouse.) Our only problem is, #9 isn't out yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beware: Droon Invades the Upper World!
Whew! Not only has the latest installment in the Secrets of Droon series arrived, but it's a winner. My son is delighted (and when he's happy, I'm happy). As we feared at the conclusion of the Land of the Lost, Eric's dad's disappearance was merely the tip of the iceberg. Alas, for the first time, an inhabitant of Droon has invaded the upper world! (If this makes no sense, it's best that you begin with The Hidden Stairs and the Magic Carpet. You'll need to meet Eric, whose basement leads to Droon, and his stalwart friends Julie and Neal. This intrepid trio teams with Princess Keeah, a junior wizard tutored by the master, Gaelen Longbeard, to foil the dastardly desires of the evil Lord Sparr. Sure, you can figure out how Max, the spider troll, and the warrior Ninns fit in without starting at the beginning, but why spoil the fun? ) For loyal followers of this parallel universe saga, book number eight offers a huge payoff. This is the longest Droon tale yet - where the prior episodes are in the 80- and 90-page range, here Tony Abbott breaks through the 100-page barrier. (My son, transfixed by the tale's momentum, never noticed that my voice started to fade as I read for more than an hour straight.) Moreover, the author brings together many rarely seen (but sorely missed) characters from earlier stories. Ensnared in Lord Sparr's evil scheme are King Zello (Princess Keeah's father), Batamogi (the furry Oobja monarch), and my son's favorite, the pillow-shaped Kahn (liege of the purple lumpies). Even the elusive, shape-shifting Queen Relna, last seen battling the Sleeping Giant of Goll, returns in spirit. The action moves at a steady clip and the author skillfully makes this book feel as fresh as the first in the series. Now my son must wait for the next book about Droon. It's a shame time moves so slowly here in the upper world.... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book that I enjoy ...
This was a great book about the kids quest to be the first ones to make it to the island with the prize that will be recieved by the deserving winner of race. However the kids run into trouble when they find that Queen Relna has been captured by 2 evil magicians sent by the evil sea wizard Demither. Will that kids get to the island in time to get the prize that will save Queen Relna? I highly recommend this book to any age group because it really is very enjoyable and fun! Thank you Tony Abbott!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Perfect 10 For Young Readers
The tenth installment in the Secrets of Droon series was a huge hit it my home. Granted, my son (now approaching five) loved each of the preceding nine Droon books and remains intolerant of my inability to force Tony Abbott, the author, to write and publish with greater frequency. My guess, however, is that The Quest for the Queen will satisfy both new readers and faithful followers of Eric, Julie, and Neal, as they team with Princess Keeah to combat evil in the magical world of Droon. Children familiar with the earlier books will perch on the edge of their seats (or your lap) awaiting the fate of the shape-shifting Queen Relna (Princess Keeah's mother, the wife of the Viking King Zello), and they won't be disappointed. New readers will be at less of a disadvantage here because Droon's predominant villian -- Lord Sparr -- remains in hiding (although there is a cameo of his nemisis, Gaelen, the grand wizard of Droon) -- nonetheless, the series works best if you begin with The Magic Staircase and meet the colorful characters in order as this grand, dense saga evolves. Consistent with most Droon adventures, this book crackles with magic (even in the forest where magic has been banned), adventure (a pilka chariot race -- oh my!), and teamwork (with both girls (Keeah and Julie) and boys (Eric and Neal) chipping in and sharing the glory). Again, I applaud Tony Abbott for doing what only the best children's authors can -- making reading (and listening) fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another from a Great Series
I have read every one of the books from this series with my kids and this one does not disappoint - they are already clamoring for Book 11. This book and the whole series is great for reading to kids (my 5 and 8 year old) and for early reading (my 8 year old is always re-reading them). Highly recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Save the Princess
This book is about three friends that go to another world. When they get there, the princess is captured by Lord Sparr. She is taken to another world where she is put in a maze. If you want to find out what happens to the princess, read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Action packed fun!
This book was great! It was full of action. My favorite character is Keeah. I've only read 2 of the Secret of Droon books, but now I want to go back and read them all!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hooray! My Favorite Children's Series Continues!
Mere words cannot describe the look of unbridled joy upon myson's face when I handed him the most recent installment in theSecrets of Droon series! Lacking patience (or a sophisticated sense of things temporal), my son neither can comprehend nor tolerate my inability to promptly produce the next book, so I remain at Tony Abbott's mercy. But I digress. Buy this book! More importantly, purchase its six predecessors -- I strongly recommend that you read them in order. You cannot find better entertainment for little people. I enjoy reading these books to my 4-year-old son, who hangs on every word, then spends days acting out the story line. When he dons his plastic glasses, that means he's Eric, and it's time for action! Our friend's daughter - she reads them herself - also swears by the series. (She won't admit that she's torn - is she the intrepid Julie, or does she possess the powers of the brave junior wizard, Princess Keeah?) The Droon series offers numerous pleasant features. These books are pure fantasy -- kids can't resist the spirited carrot-topped spider-troll Max, his mentor, the wizard Gaelen, or the new characters they frequently meet. Through seven books, Abbott meticulously introduces a parallel world reminiscent of the Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe; and he similarly weaves a linear tapestry that propels the reader from one book to the next. Unlike many children's book series, he avoids repetition, yet skillfully reminds readers of previously obtained knowledge. Using appropriate vocabulary, he displays children thinking, solving problems, working together, greeting and welcoming strangers, building relationships, conquering adversity, helping those in need, and, above all, enjoying themselves. Mr. Abbott -- if you're reading this, please stick with it (and hurry)! My son can't wait for the eighth Droon book, and neither can I. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One ancient snow beast you don't wanna mess with!
In the now #20th edition of the Droon series, Eric, Julie, Neil and Keeah find that there are now some new problems in Droon. A new snowman seems to have woken up for his deep slumber and is destroying villages all over Droon. It turns our this snowman, named Murn, is not at all a happy camper, and to stop him the kids have to journey up north to the Ice Caves of Krog. The kids have quite a few adventures including finding the tricky cave entrance, but nothing prepares them for the surprise of seeing Murn...

I have to admit I am a freshman in high school, but I have been reading Droon since I was ten. I know these types of books are way out of my reading level, but they are so magical that you really do feel sucked into Keeah's world. Little kids will love this book, and it is a great way to start your children on chapter books. A must-read! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite
This book is really good because when Eric, Julie and Neil went to Droon, there was a Dream Thief. This thief (whose name I won't tell you) wanted to take over all of Droon just for a nice oven to bake his pies that turn you into a goblin.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Secres of Jroon Dream Theif
I like Dream Theif because it is wild, magical, and fun. It also has grate magical words in it. I would never not like Dream Theif. I never could say that there was a part I didn't like. My favorite part personly was when Neal said that once he woke up with a penut butter sandwich. The reason I read this book is because I liked the creative pictures and words on the back.C.H.

5-0 out of 5 stars Secrets of Droon review
This book was great . It would be scary for little kids though. There were lots of hawk bandits and an old city that was destroyed 400 years ago came back. I liked it because it kept me in suspense because you want to see if it is a happy ending. The main characters in this book are Julie a girl from the Upper World, Eric a boy from the Upper World, Neal another boy from the Upper World, and Keeah a princess and junior wizard from Droon. There where also otter-like creatures called mooples. In a picture they were so , so cute. Also there were 2 Galens, one from Tarkoom's time , the other his older form. I would recommend this book for children ages 6-12. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Search for the Dragon Ship
This book Search for the Dragon Ship by Tony Abbott is certainly one of the best Secrets of Droon books. There's more action, mystery, and adventure. The best part of this book to me is when Eric, Neal, Julie, find princess Salamandra. The part where there's the most action. The pictures are sketched nicely and the cover drawing is exellent. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because when you're reading from the start of the book, and finishing it all you do is just go around in circles. First check it out at the library, and if you like it, then buy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fun book
This was a fun book, and if I had read it before reading King Fortis the Brave I might have given it five stars. But because I read it after finishing King Fortis, which was superior in many ways, the best I could do was four.

Still, that's not to say that this book does not have a lot going for it, and that Abbott isn't a very good writer. If you're looking for a young adult fantasy novel and you haven't read King Fortis yet, try that first. But if you've already read King Fortis the Brave and are looking for another good romp through a fantasy world, you can do a lot worse than this book! ... Read more
