5-0 out of 5 stars My 3 year old son loves it
I purchased this book for my husband for Father's Day (he's Italian American")--I didn't really think that our then 2.5 year old would really care for the book. But he loves it! It's a good story, although at times the messages can be a bit confusing for a very young child--but my son seems to enjoys the illustrations, the sounds of the Italian names, and of course the most elemental aspects of the story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning artwork makes this book special
"Peppe the Lamplighter" combines a story by Elisa Bartone with illustrations by Ted Lewin. The story takes place "[a] long time ago when there was no electricity and the street lamps in Little Italy had to be lit by hand." The hero of the book is Peppe, who lives with his widowed father and sisters in a tenement. Peppe's decision to get a job as a lamplighter leads to conflict between Peppe and his father.

This is a good story that is greatly enhanced by Lewin's superb artwork. Most of the illustrations are two-page spreads that are packed full of energy and emotion. Lewin's realistic style is well-suited to capturing many colorful details: the sausages hanging in the butcher shop, a crowded street scene, the old-fashioned iron stove in Peppe's home, etc. Overall, a memorable celebration of Italian-American history.

5-0 out of 5 stars Introduces immigration early in the 20th century.
I think this is a moving book which helps students think about the lives of many immigrants in early 20th century New York.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
A wonderful, beautiful book that truly inspired my child. He now recognizes that even the "little things" are important. The illustrations are outstanding.

4-0 out of 5 stars Children's Italian History
As a collector of children's books, I was delighted to come across this beautifully illustrated story of an Italian family in early America, before electricity. It is historically correct, spiritually uplifting, and reinforces the value of hard work, regardless of your age or ability. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars User Friendly!
This book is great if you plan on visting Vegas with the kids in mind. It gives a good description of the attractions, addresses, phone numbers, height restrictions, and prices. We've started checking off the things we've done in the table of contents. The only downfall is it doesn't really give a review of great buffets...only some suggestions of kid friendly eateries.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Lobster Kids' Guide to Exploring Las Vegas
This book saved me a bundle of time and expenses when family came out to visit here in Las Vegas.

I was a big hero to my nephews and nieces because I knew all the best places to take them to see free shows and other exciting things. My sisters and brothers loved me because once the kids had their adventures, they were free to do the adult vegas experience.

Whether you live here (and have family and their children coming to visit) or whether you are bringing your family, this book has a complete list that will keep the little ones happy. From pirate battles to clown museums. Rollercoasters to wild life parks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Las Vegas - Family Memories to Last a Lifetime!
I have enjoyed Las Vegas as a single tourist in the past, but when I decided to bring my family to Las Vegas, I knew that I needed to do some planning. I never knew just how family-friendly Las Vegas really was! The Lobsters' Guide to Exploring Las Vegas was a critical resource that I couldn't have gone without! This book provided me with creativity and adventure. I was able to plan out our vacation and make last minute decisions with the direction from this author, who's descriptions were "right on". There was such a variety of activities to choose from! My family absolutely loved our vacation and I loved the ease of it all (descriptions, tips, directions, price info, etc.). Thanks to the help from this book, I know that the memories of our vacation will last a lifetime! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
As a preschool teacher, I have an extensive collection of children's books. My 18 month old, pulled this one from the bookshelf and has not let it out of his sight since. I have actually just ordered a third copy, the first two are pretty worn already.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect "starter book" for little truck lovers!
This book is a wonderful first truck book for little truck fans! My son's first word was truck. I bought this book when he was 18-months old. He is 3 1/2 now and still never tires of listening to the rhyming text and looking at the endearing pictures! It's great for Mommy, too, because it's so easy to read when you're tired, unlike a lot of the truck books that label the parts and have too much information for little ones. We also enjoy "I Love Trains!" by the same author.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for little truck lovers!
My 18 month old absolutely adores this book. He is fascinated with "real-life" trucks and this book explains in a very easy manner all the different types of trucks he sees everyday--mommys and daddys may even learn something! The narrative is short and sweet which is a must with this age group. And the pictures are fun and colorful. Definitely recommended reading for any little truck lover out there. ... Read more
