5-0 out of 5 stars Lubar fans sure to Flip over his new novel
Anyone who remembers being a kid will recall the joys of discovering a cool book. David Lubar remembers childhood so well that he's made a specialty of writing just that sort of book for kids to discover. In Flip, twins Ryan and Taylor stumble across a cache of alien discs that contain the personalities of legendary humans from throughout history. For Ryan it's a blessed escape from the confusion of ordinary life, but for Taylor it means twice the bother as she tries to keep her brother out of trouble. Lubar shares valuable lessons about the difficulties of youth, and it's not just kids that are his intended audience. Want to discover a really cool book even if you're all grown up? Any of Lubar's books will do the trick, but Flip and Dunk are my favorites.

4-0 out of 5 stars excellent book, very entertaining
This is an entertaining young adult novel about twins who discover alien disks that allow them to become historical figures for a short time. Ryan especially loves the disks, and begins to use them almost like drugs to escape from his screw-up life, while his twin sister Taylor tries to keep him out of trouble. The book is fast-paced and, in places, funny; the twins are likable and believable. The most engaging character is Ellis, a friend of the twins.
I have a few minor quibbles with the book, the most important being with the ending. The McKenzies have some family problems, and we don't see these get resolved by the conclusion of the book, yet we are clearly supposed to believe that the final confrontation provides a way out of the family difficulties. But the young people themselves discover some truths about life and their own identities, and do it in an interesting way. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Thrilling, couldn't put it down
Hey! i loved this book! When i bought it, i couldn't stop reading it! i lent it to my friend and she and i can't stop talking about it. The book is the second book of a Trilogy, called The Wind on Fire. Throughout this book, as well as the first one, we follow twins Bowman and Kestrel, who are as similar as they are differet. They are very close. At the begining of this book, The Mastery invades Armamanth destroying the city and enslaving it's people. Kestrel avoides this capturing and watches as her family is led off with the rest. She leaves her city still burning, and follows as the Mastery leads her people away. She vows to follow them and avenge the death of so many of her people, so she follows as they march. She eventually finds a caravan of people going to the Mastery to wed their princess to the Master's son. The book takes you back and forth through the eyes of both Bowman the slave and Kestrel the avenger, and tells their tales. It is a very good read, i recomend it! It is amazing how close Bowman and Kestrel remain throughout their seperation. they both long for each other in such a way it's amazing. I love the characters and the faith they heve in eachother. Just an overall good read!

5-0 out of 5 stars what a great book!
this is a really, REALLY fabulous book! it's soooooo much better than the first.
kestrel and bowman are all grown up and should really be getting married (though i dont know anyone married at 15) but before they even think about it disaster stikes! the manth people are taken into slavery, and kestrel is left behind!

i think this book deals with some issues "its better to be a slave and live than to be free and die" and why do we crave freedom anyway? but without going too deep or coming up with a definite answer.
a bit of the gushy love stuff is in it but again it doesn't go to deep or slushy (the 3rd book has more) which i think is very good. i have no idea how Nicholson comes up with his ideas but i'm really glad he did!
some new characters appear, like sisi and they're just as wonderful as bowman, kestrel and of course mumpo.
Great sequel, read all the books!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Big surprise
This is a brillaint book. The first one was already exciting and absorping but Slaves of Mastery is breath-taking! I am a girl from Hong Kong. I didn't read much books before. But when i first saw Volume 1 and 2 from Library I grabbed it.

The first one was a kind of children adventure. It was beautifully written, especially the link between Bowman and Kestrel.it seems likea classic.
In second one,Slaves of Mastery, characters have grown up to 15 years old which is teenage years. In Anamanth they married soon but Kestrel refused marry to anyone. This is a reflection in the real world though.Nowadays most people are lucky that they can choose their own girl-boy to marry. Not like Ortiz and Siso who don't even know each other.Mumpo was a really lovely and mild boy! He changed from adore to LOVE Ketrel and wanted to marry her.

The storyline is so cool. Ortiz was a cruel leader under the Master and he burnt Anamanth. But you can't believe that Ortiz will deeply fall in love with someone who should not. Although Ortiz was cruel, he had a pure love for his lover. he daydreamt about her a lot.^^He was the one who Anamanth people aimed to revenge for...

This book has some scenes very cruel and terrible. It has more cruel and lovely scenes than the first! Especially the scene when Ortiz and his 'bride' were dancing!it was certainly a pure love for ortiz...Oh...he had a ending which surprised me...although he was really really really bad.
This book made me cried a lot. it contains many many general touching. I run through the book and can't believe some horribe dying.
I am highly highly recommend this book to everyone who loves fantasy story!Honestly, this isn't just a book only about three teengers' adventure! it was a truly touching, human-like and unforgettable story! I sincerely thank you the people who read my comments with tears!

I hope you find my comments interesting and buy the book! Buy it! Buy it!!>5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!!
This is by far one of the best books I have EVER read. This is an amazing writer. This one even rivals Harry Potter. Anyone who likes a good mix of fantasy, suspence, and action would love this book. When I read the first book I wasnt all that impressed, but this book is amazing. It doesnt even feel like the same person wrote the book. This is a must read!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable follow-up to "The Wind Singer"
While I liked "The Wind Singer", I found this book to be a much better read. The writing style the author uses has changed for the better. I thought the writing in the first book was very simple...too simple, actually. I think that Mr. Nicholson expanded his horizons, and this book was much more impressive than "The Wind Singer". The story in this book was also much more complex, following the separate paths of many different characters, where as the first book in the series only followed Kestrel and Bowman. It was a nice change of pace to be able to understand what several characters were struggling with. Overall, I found this book to be entertaining and enjoyable. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Double Date ( Hi Miss.O its Jackie)
"Double Date" by R.L. Stine is a great book. It's about a boy named Bobby who is his school's player. He decides to date twin sister named Bree and Samantha to prove he is the man. But he didn't think he would fall for both of them. But things start to go wrong very wrong. He suspects that one of the girls is so in love with him that she'll do anything to have him to herself. Even kill for him!! But Bobby doesn't know which on could be a killer. Will Bobby have enough time to find out who the killer is and stop her before someone gets hurt? I guess you'll have to read the book to find out!! I would recommand this book to people who love suspense thillers with soem humor at the same time!! I promise yuo won't want to put this book down.

4-0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful and unexpected plot developments!
I read R.L. Stine's Double Date. This book is about a guy who thinks he is "God's gift to the world". That attitude gets him in troulbe when he decides to date twins at the same time. I think it is good book because there is a lot of plot twists. I never would have expected the end would be like it was. If you like R.L. Stine you would love this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Two's company. But three can be murder.
Bobby Newkirk knows he's got the best looks in all of Shadyside High. No girl can resist going out with him, even though Bobby has been known to break the heart of any girl he ever dated. The new twin girls at school, Bree and Samantha, are one of the prettiest girls Bobby has ever met. So he decides to date both of them. But one of the twins is jealous--murderously jealous. Bobby must find out which of the twins isn't acting nice, or his double fun will turn to double terror.

This was an okay book--just okay. I really loved the beginning and middle. But when the ending came, things started to get bad. Everything got really confusing and a little weird. Then when I read the last chapter, I felt disappointed. Although the story had a surprise ending which I love, I didn't like it. I recommend this book only for R.L. Stine fans--not for a fan of any horror book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Okay
It was okay. But it was not as great as the other ones he has done, i liked it until about halfway through the book it was a little wierd after that. Otherwise it probably would be a five star book for me. I recomend checking out this book from the library, probably not buying it unless you realy want to, oh and dont check out the book on casette the guy reading it does girl voises extremly annoyingly!

4-0 out of 5 stars imangtive and creative
it's a really cool book, and it has an important moral, watever bad thing u do,it'll com back and bite u in da a$$,da coke think was kind stupid though, then again,i guess not, theres 1 thing this book had tat none others had, beliveble charcthers,it has a kinda weak plot, wat he does is risky, and there stupid not 2 nocited, but then again the endind explains all.it is higly onrignal

Perched in the branches of her favorite tree with her sketchbook, Anne-Marie watches the world go by. While recording her observations of neighbors, friends, and family, she thinks about her father, who left two years before; about Mike, who seems to be trying to take his place; about her twin sister, Mary Anne, who looks like her (at least to adults) but sees things very differently. Poems in Anne-Marie's voice, sometimes humorous, sometimes poignant, and always honest, take readers through a year of change in the life of a family and in Anne-Marie's heart. Illustrations that include paintings, drawings, and collage capture the text's emotional range and Anne-Marie's own artistic vision. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Summer
Mary-Kate and Ashley Sweet 16 Perfect Summer by Emma Harrison is a great book about a road trip and the girls both have jobs at the Music Fest. The book is about when Mary Kate and Ashley go on a road trip to a Music Fest after they turn sixteen. When they found out they were going they were so excited they were jumping up and down screaming.
The main characters in the book are Mary Kate, Ashley, Brian, Penny, their parents and their friend Don. One thing that happened at the beginning of the book is that they actually found out they were going to the festival. Another part of the book was that they left their house to start their road trip. Once they were there they meet their dad's friend Don who makes music videos. Those are some of the things that happened in the book.
I like this book a lot. I like this book because Penny overcomes her fear of stage fright. I also like that they won the contest and got their scholarships. A part that was sad was when the girls heard how good Penny was singing but she did not want them to her. So after that Penny would not even talk to them. One thing that was funny is when Mary-Kate and Ashley got revenge on Penny for being mean to them. That is my opinion about the book.
The theme of this book is that friends can help you do anything. That is the theme because Penny got over her fear. Another thing is when Ashley could not carry all the equipment Brian helped her with it. All of Penny and Brian's friends helped them practice for the competition. If you like to read surprising books this is a good book for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars really good!
For anyone who has mixed up Going My Way and The Perfect Summer, Going My Way is not a Mary Kate and Ashley book. The Perfect Summer is though, it is Book 3 in the Sweet 16 series.

Amazon.com cannot seem to stop mixing up plots, titles, and series numbers. This book is not about as described, it is about Mary-Kate and Ashley getting a job (through their music exec dad) at a summer music festival working backstage. Mary-Kate meets a rock star, Gavin Michaels, and they start dating. Only things aren't as they seem with Gavin. Ashley gets a new boyfriend, Brian. She has to help his band partner, Penny, get over her stage fright before they have to perform and compete for a record contract. Can they make it? Though thoroughly predictable, this book is a great read, whether you like to read or not!

4-0 out of 5 stars How many books R there in the Sweet 16 mini-series?
Okay, I have seen two books on the internet, one is called 'The Perfect Summer' , the other is 'Going My Way'. They are both noted as book 3 of 'Mary-Kate and Ashley Sweet 16.' If anyone knows which is the REAL book 3, and if you know what the story is about, whether it's same or different, please reply in a review, thanx.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sweet 16 The Perfect Summer
Okay, I don't know if there are, like, two different versions of this book, but I have The Perfect Summer and the book you guys described in the other reviews is not The Perfect Summer. This book isn't about their driving test. In The Perfect Summer, Mary-Kate and Ashley get summer jobs at a music festival. Mary-Kate meets a rockstar named Gavin Michaels and Ashley gets a new boyfriend named Brian. They help Brian and their new friend Penny enter a contest to win a record deal. It's a really good book, but I don't know why they would make two with the same title or whatever mix-up happened. Ok, peace out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book!
This book is one of Madeline L'Engle's best! I loved it. Sandy and Dennys Murry are are identical twins. They have a younger brother Charles Wallace Murry and an older sister now in college Meg Murry. Their mother is a scientist and their father experiments with space and time travel. The twins walk into their mother's lab not noticing a sign sayin "EXPERIMENT IN PROGRESS. PLEASE KEEP OUT." Dennys types into a computer in the lab: TAKE ME SOMEPLACE WARM and the twins end up back in the time of Noah. Anyone who liked A Wrinkle in Time should read this book! It is one of my favorite books by Madeline L'Engle!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Miraculous Finish to the Time Quartet: Many Waters
Again, Madeleine L'Engle puts forth yet another triumph. Many Waters is a unique heart warming story that almost all can relate to and enjoy. However, this tale is no children's story. L'engle fills the adventure of Sandy and Dennys Murry with romance, rich vocabulary, Biblical stories and theories, and more adult criteria. Indeed, it would not be wise to read this book and not be accustomed to the story of Noah's Arc. For the correct audience this book is perfection! Many Waters takes its readers on aventures almost unthinkable by the average human mind. L'Engle, again, displays her brilliance and absolutely perfect imagination.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well-written adventure with a dash of teen angst
For me, this book was an all-time favorite of mine through my teen years. I picked it up at the age of fourteen and read it in a day, barely stopping to eat! I completely fell in love with the Murray twins, Sandy and Dennys, who are learning not only to cope with the onslaughts of puberty, but with their odd-man-out status in a family of extra-extraordinary individuals. I loved "A Wrinkle In Time" as a child, but I loved the fact that L'Engle gave the twins their own shot at an supernatural adventure, which in turn helps them with the transition into manhood and discovering who they really are.

A snowstorm forces the fifteen-year-old twins indoors from an impromtu hockey game. They are alone in the Murray house, and soon boredom sets in, leading the boys to start snooping in their father's labratory. A time machine is unwittingly discovered, the boys wish for "some place warm and dry", and the next thing they know, they are whisked away to a strange desert, not knowing that their father's invention has transported them to the Biblical times of Noah and the great flood. Here they discover that humans live for hundreds of years, that nephilims (angels thrown down from heaven) are the bad guys, and seraphim (good angels still in the service of God) are the good guys. Noah has just been told by God to build an ark, but everyone, including his children, thinks he's crazy. Yet with the twins' help, God's will is eventually carried out, but with a price.

Much angst, adventure, conspiracy, violence, romance and Biblical lessons insue. I'll say one thing--Sunday school never taught you THIS about the famous story of Genesis! L'Engle flawlessly incorporates Biblical texts with her own fictional twists. The end result is a wonderful read that will make you adore the members of the Murray family even more.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't Judge a Book by it's Cover.
I read Many Waters because I had read the books before it and loved it. When I was in a bookstore I thought oh... that cover looks intersesting so I picked it up and bought it. I brought it home and after the first three chapters I couldn't read anymore. The book was dull and slow moving. I forced myself to read more thinking that it would get better. Maybe it got a little better, but not much. Some people loved this book, but I think that it was really dull.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not As Good As Expected
Don't get me wrong--it was a very good book. So the twins get to meet Miranda, their mother. What suddenly bore me off was that Cam and Alex had to go in search of Dylan, who was captured by an unknown person whatsoever. The whole plot about finding Dylan was so predictable, senseless, and boring. Otherwise, it's mysterious and possibly recommendable for mystery fanatics. I, in my opinion, expected much more from this book. I thought that they'd deliver more messages, and reveal more information about the twins' past. The truth is, if you skipped this book, and bought the next one, you'd get the whole idea anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutlely fantastic :) :)
I thought this books layout was virtually enthralling. From the opening sentence I was hooked by Cam's and Alex's mixed up family tree and unpredictable powers. I found myself wishing that they could find their mother and become a happy family, even thoughh I knew that it was unlikely that would be the scenario. I encouarge anyone who enjoys the suspense of a mystery novel along with the magic that could only be matched by a J.K. Rowling book to pick up, not only this book, but the whole series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Double awsome!!
I think that this is the best book its awsome the eding is sad but the first few chapters are really interesting its the easiest one to get into but read the books in order so you understand it. You find some really amazing things about Ileana aand you don't know what to think.I was shocked.I found out about Thantos and it really makes you think about him but anyway i dont want to give away all the good parts cause there are better ones that will make you wish all the books were out already.I hope that this was helpful [...].

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone should read it!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes you think, and touches your heart.
Trudy (Tru) Walker is an everyday teenager. She has dreams of hosting "The Trudy Walker Show," and having fancy dinners with Brad Pitt because of its sucess. Her twin brother though, was stricken with asphyxia, and is a little less than an everyday teenager. The book, told from a diary point of view, tells of Tru's coping with the differences in her brother, and trying to survive preteen life herself. I could not put it down, and actually stayed up late reading it. :) Besides its great lesson, you can really feel Tru's emotions toward people who make fun of her brother.

The book is written in a compelling style, and really has stayed in my memory.

The book is very touching, and makes you think about bullying, and touching someone else's heart. Tru really cares for her brother, and I hope that there are other people like Tru who stand up for others, and love themselves int he process. This book is great for kids of any age, and could also do well as a read-aloud...

Tru is a girl who in the beginning seems very snobby. But deep down she's terrific! She doesnt seem like she loves her mentally disabled brother-but she loves him more than anything!Along the way,the times she stands up for him,is just numerous!its a terrific book and i recommend it alot. She enters a video contest, and the winner's tape is shown on tv.Can you guess who she did it about?I have only seen the movie. And i was looking for the dvd, sadly they dont have it.BUT I WANT IT SO MUCH!I swear,i cried for like an hour, the movie rocks. Now i have to read the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tru Confessions
I really like the novel. It was very descriptive with people, places, and things. It also had a wonderful selection of characters with great personalities. The explainations really caught my attention. It's excellent reading.

The best part of the book was when Tru was showing her film to her friends. I thought that it was funny how they all thought that it was borning. And Eddy was very bored except for when he saw himself.

I think that the most vivid story elements were Tru and her imagination. She just had such realistic dreams. As well as the steps she took to persue them. She had downfalls and up points. Another vivid element was the theme of the story. Tu wanted to succeed in the filming industry and that dream and theme is realistic.
