Like the other books in this series, Get the Ball, Slim, is a terrific book. Other so-called first readers seem to be too advanced for the true beginner. Book Description

This new trilogy from three best-selling authors explores the differing perspectives of three high school seniors on the events and choices leading up to the death of a classmate, Sammy. All feel a measure of guilt for their role in the loss of their friend and must learn to understand their own life story through God's eyes instead of their own finite perspective. Kyra, Sammy's twin sister, is sure that she knows why he died. She's sure that the guilty deserve to be punished. Soon everyone in Mason, Iowa, will learn that atoning for what is wrong is a lot harder than assigning blame. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Concept
Sammy James is dead. His twin sister, Kyra, believes that it's all her fault. He wouldn't have been in the compromising situation that resulted in his death if Kyra hadn't driven him to it. As she awaits her turn to testify at the trial for Sammy's murder, Kyra looks back at the past few months and ponders her role.

Kyra has held the lead in every play since kindergarten in her hometown of Macon, Iowa. She's a cheerleader who runs with the "in" crowd, and has already been accepted at NYU for next year. The charismatic new English teacher, Mitchell Wade, forges an instant connection with the students on their level. He is in charge of the senior play, and Kyra's tension mounts as she's not sure she will impress him enough to win the lead.

In contrast, Sammy is laid back and does his own thing. Kyra feels the stress building each day--the constant pressure to do, act, and be the best. She starts sneaking Xanax from her mother in order to take off the "edge", and that works for a while. As Kyra becomes more and more addicted, her perception of her relationships is altered. When Sammy finds out what Kyra is doing, will she stop? What exactly is Kyra's role in Sammy's death?

I was pulled into KYRA'S STORY from the first page. It is one of three books in the DEGREES OF GUILT series; each book is written from a different person's perspective. After reading the book, a code is included and the reader can go to the website and read that person's trial testimony. Also featured at the website is the final verdict naming who is responsible for what happened to Sammy.

Kyra could be any high school senior. Her struggles with perfection will hit home for anyone who is currently experiencing the drama of high school, as well as those who are looking back. My daughter is a senior, and she said, "Wow, this author really knows what we're going through!" Sammy is the innocent victim, and it will be interesting to see how everything plays out over the course of the next books. Mitchell Wade is the ultimate villain; he's cunning and integrates himself into the lives of the teens in a way that seems commonplace and natural.

A subtle faith message is included, as Kyra learns to depend on God rather than the drugs for her strength. KYRA'S STORY has universal appeal, and is highly recommended for both adults and teens. All three books are available now, and readers will want to pick up all of them to get the full picture of the events surrounding Sammy's death.

5-0 out of 5 stars Honest and meaningful
What I truly enjoyed about all three books of "Degrees of Guilt" was the feeling that I was given private passage into the heads of the teenagers in the story. I say story, singular, because it is one story, with three different perspectives. Read all three to find out how Sammy really died. Tyrone, Miranda, and Kyra all have feelings of guilt, that they could have somehow prevented Sammy's death. These books are about how it happened and how each person dealt with their actions leading up to, and after, Sammy's death.

I would have guessed that the story would get old before finishing the third book, but each character's personality and the circumstances were so different that it stayed fresh.

I highly recommend these books to both young people and their parents.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!!
Wow! That's pretty much all I can say. I have just finished all three books in this series and I am amazed. I want it to keep going. It keeps you right on the edge and you always want to know what is coming next. These books will grip your heart(I cried at least three times) and show you how true and real God's love and forgiveness is. If you are looking for a little bit of Hope, healing, love, encouragement, romance, mystery or anything else, these books will give it to you. They definitely blew my expectations of it out of the water. READ IT!!! and the rest of the series! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Double Play at Short Review
I really enjoyed reading this great book!!

This book is about a boy named Danny. Danny plays baseball for the Bullets and they are in the Championship Series against the Jaguars. Danny is the short-stop for the Bullets. When they get to the first game Danny noticed the Jaguars short-stop. Danny notices that Tammy the Jaguars short-stop plays exactly like him. Then on his birthday they had a game and after the game the Jaguars started to sing Happy Birthday to Tammy. After this Danny started to wonder about this Tammy girl. So Danny went to the library to do a search on her and to see if he could find anything on her. Then during the games Danny can't focus on the game but only Tammy. Before this whole series started he thought he was a shoe-in for the All-Star game, but yet after the first game he thought that Tammy would beat him. Danny tells his mom about his concerns and being related to Tammy. READ THIS BOOK TO FIND OUT IF DANNY AND TAMMY ARE REALTED SOMEHOW!!! If you really want to know I think you should read this book.

I would recommend this book to people who like mysteries, sports, baseball, and enjoy reading. Also this is a very exciting book.

3-0 out of 5 stars The 2 Baseball Players
The book was about an adopted boy named Danny Walker that had played short stop and wanted to make the all-star team. But, there is a new girl named Tammy who bats and fields just like him. In the end Danny realizes something familiar about Tammy. I thought the book was interesting and exciting because once you read some you want to read some more!

4-0 out of 5 stars It was a GREAT book
I liked the story about a boy who plays baseball and encounters a girl. He has many similarities and he wants to find out more about her. His mom tells him that she is his twin and his mom died at birth. The boy's team faces his sister in the championship. His sister knows that they are twins and they both play ther best and he and his sister have a geat time after the game.

4-0 out of 5 stars It was a GREAT book
I liked the story because of a boy who plays baseball and encounters a girl. Ho has many similarities and he wants to find out more about her. His mom tells him that she is his twin and his mom died at birth. The boy's team faces his sister in the championship. His sister knows that they are twins and they both play ther best and he and his sister have a geat time after the game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Double Play at Short
This story was about a boy who only lived to play Baseball. The boy's name was Danny Walker. He only wanted to make the Allstar Team. Danny was one of the best in the league. There was a girl that was just a good as him now and he was not the best anymore. Danny is kind of like me. I love Baseball. I live for sports and I always want to make the Allstar Team.

I liked the book. It was kind of like me and playing Baseball. I think my least favorite part is when the girl beats him. I didn't like that the girl was like him, good at everything. They were on the same team to see how it would work. It would not work because they both play the same position.

I would recommend this book to a person that understands the the sport. If you like sports you will like Double Play at Short by Matt Christopher ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Point of View for the Series
This is the first book in Dear America that deals with blind people. Being very interested in Helen Keller's story a few years ago, I was very eager to read this. It tells about Bess Brennan's life after the sledding accident that caused her to lose her sight. She is scared to go to a blind school at first, but as the time goes by, adjusts. Her twin sister, Elin, writes entries in her diary for her (not to mention some of Elin's own entries). This is a very interesting story, it can show others who are having a tough situation to be hopeful. Although the book is on the shorter side, I would still definitely recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unique.
"Mirror, Mirror on the Wall: The Diary of Bess Brennan--The Perkins School for the Blind, 1932" is such an interesting book. The concept is very unique: twin sisters, one blind and one with sight, collaborate to write a diary for the blind sister. The sister with sight incorporates her emotions at the end of some of the entries as well; it's a two for one diary. I thought this "Dear America" book was such a fascinating one and should be read by all. It teaches perseverance and strength, and that we can overcome anything that befalls us. I recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book
I was unsure if I wanted to read this book from the school library but when I checked it out and started reading I just couldn't put it down its the best book in the Dear America sires so far.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bess At Perkins
This book is about a girl named Bess. She became blind in a bad sledding accident. She ran into a tree. Bess had to have surgery more than once, but it never helped. Bess's uncle said she should go to a school called Perkins. Perkins is a school for the blind. Bess belived she should go,so she could do things for herself. Bess didn't belive in havig her family do everything for her. At Perkins she shares a room with two girls. Bess does pretty good there, but she has such a hard time learning brial. There she also learns to arrange her food so she will know what kind of food she is eating. Every weekand she gets to go home. She has a twin sister. That is why it is called "Mirror Mirror". Her and her sister are mirror twins. She comes to learn facinating thing. Bess learn more about being blind, and herself. This book will make you think about what is like to be blind. It is awesome!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-read book
Bess Brennan lost her sight in a sledding accident, and is having a hard time adjusting. One of the hard things getting used to is writing in her diary, so her sister Elin offers to write down her entries for her.
But Elin isn't always there. Their parents decide to send Bess to Perkin's school for the blind, where Bess can learn to do things for herself. So Bess and Elin agree to write in her diary when she comes home on weekends.

This book is absolutely wonderful. Barry Denenburg is a really great writer.
One of the parts I liked is where all the students at Perkin's were going to do a play that came right from Barry Denenburg's other book, When Will this Dreadful War be Over. And Bess got the part of Rachel, the slightly cuckoo cousin! What a laugh:) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, Especially For Twins!
This book was one of my favorites as a child, and I am buying the newest edition to read to my children. I always wanted to be a twin like Julie and Jennifer. It teaches that children can be alike and different because that's what makes them unique. Although it is a little bit repetitive, with every page ending, "Just like me," or "Not like me," it emphasizes the point that no two people are exactly alike, but everyone has some things in common. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Mary-Kate and Ashley are boring!
Mary-Kate and Ashley's reputation is boring! They may be more fun for young readers, but then some of the content would be too mushy-gushy! I encourage you to rent their stuff from a library instead of buy it! If they realize that their sales are dropping enough, then they will stop making their products sooo extremely boring! Besides, who wants to spend so much money on boring books? I think they've gone extreme with all of their book series. They need to finish some of them off. They have these different book series:
Sweet 16-13 books (book #14 on the way)
So Little Time-14 books (book #15 on the way)
Two of a Kind-33 books (book #34 on the way)

The scheming, spiteful little antiheroes of Rare Beasts--terrible twins Edgar and Ellen, a sort of Pugsley and Wednesday Addams duo--return for a second book in Charles Ogden's goth-themed, tongue-in-cheek series.

Tourist Trap begins as Edgar and Ellen revel in their gloriously sinister home and the nearby "Gadget Graveyard," ripe with possibilities for misanthropic mischief. But the twins' beloved junkyard--and even their towering, mansion home--might be threatened by the pretentious plans of pompous Mayor Knightleigh, who hopes to get the town of Nod's Limbs on the National Registry of Historic Treasures. Edgar and Ellen, of course, immediately set out to thwart the mayor's plans by sabotaging a visiting tour of VIPs with monster attacks, insect sandwiches, and even a devilishly clever scheme involving the biggest piece of French toast in the universe.

The fun format--forty-four short chapters, interspersed with Rick Carton's creepily cool pen-and-ink illustrations--makes for a quick read, and while the while the book never quite reaches Lemony Snicket levels of genius, kids will still love the many jokes and the twins' escalating, Grinch-style meanness (which, thankfully, never gets too mean). Watch for a third installment, Under Town. (Ages 9 to 12)--Paul Hughes ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Three Cheers for ''Tourist Trap''!!!
In this second addition of the edgar & ellen series the book starts out with how the delightful little town of Nod's Limbs had been erected. Then it talks about edgar and ellen, two mischievious twelve-year-old twins, who live in a tall mansion next to the gadget graveyard, a graveyard and junkyard combined.
But the pompous mayor has plans to change the twins' gadget graveyard into a hotel! He also arranged VIPs to visit and make Nod's Limbs a tourist atraction.
So Edgar and Ellen act as tour guides but instead bring the VIPs on a tour of insanity that will make tourists stay away forever!

I liked the story of this book better than the first. Also, in this book it gave me a very good discription of the picturesque town of Nod's Limbs and all of the goody-goody residents. Charles Ogden writes very interesting Lemony Snicket-oriented stories, except with the children being the predators. Rick Carton also makes great drawings that are dark and somwhat like the addams family.
Another thing a liked better about this book aside from the first was that edgar and ellen succeeded in their evil plot.

2-0 out of 5 stars A romp all right, but...
... I have a bit of a problem with the treatment of Pet. I can allow Ellen's lust for revenge against a prim and prissy Stephanie--after all, children are vicious, sometimes, to each other, and I felt it was clear that this ongoing battle between the two girls was clearly depicted as such; in fact, Edgar and Ellen are also well-explained as deviant mentalities. But to have the two of them mistreat an animal (of whatever sort it is) seems to promote such treatment of animals as fun, or cool, somehow. I found that disturbing.
The characters are one-dimensional, but after all, this is what it is--a tale of two evil imps on yet another crusade to destroy something they feel is in their megalomaniacal way.
I think a parent could do better in choosing summer reading for his/her child.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Delightful Romp
Even better than the first adventure, Tourist Trap proves another delightful romp for kids and kids-at-heart alike. Ogden gives us a refreshing duo who get to do all the naughty things we only dream about! Great fun with wonderful turns of phrase and vocabulary. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A New Barker in the House-- by: Tomie dePaola
In this book, Morgie and Moffie's parents adopt a three-year-old Spanish-speaking boy, Marcos. Morgie and Moffie (twins) get excited and over-do it a little the first day. They forget that their new brother doesn't understand them when they speak to him in English. On the second day, Morgie and Moffie realize that they should teach their brother things as well as learn from him. Marcos fits in better now, and they are a family. My favorite character in this book was Marcos. I would recommend this book especially for parents to read to their children if they are adopting a child, whether or not the child is from a foreign country. I would also recommend it to anyone else looking for a good book about family. ... Read more

Book Description

Ten-year-old Ruby and Garnet are identical twins who do everything together. Especially since their mother died three years earlier. They dress alike, wear their hair the same, and sit together in every class. In fact, everything about them is the same--except their personalities. Ruby is funny and outgoing, Garnet is sensitive and shy. Together they're the perfect double act--and that's just the way they like it.
Soon the twins' life is turned upside down. Their dad has been spending a lot of time with his new "friend" Rose. Ruby and Garnet can't stand Rose. To make matters worse, Dad and Rose buy a bookstore out in the country and the whole family moves. Ruby hates their new school, but Garnet thinks it isn't all that bad. When Garnet befriends some of their new classmates, Ruby feels betrayed and stops speaking to Garnet. Garnet misses her sister terribly, but has to admit it's nice doing things on her own for a change. Somehow, the girls will have to find a way to maintain their special twin relationship without spending every minute of the day together.

4-0 out of 5 stars double Act
Welcome to Double Act, a book about twins that do the same things but have different attitudes. The characters are Ruby and Garnet, the twins. They do everyting together and want to go to boarding school but only one twin got in!

I liked the book because I could visualize what is going on and it has some pictures. There is some action, but I don;t think it is supposed to have much action. I like this book because a lot of people can connect to it. I can copnnect because I get mad at my brother like Ruby gets mad at Garnet.

I recommend this book to all twins because the book is about twins. I think that twins would connect to this book the most.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is one of my favorite books!!
I read a book called Double Act. This was one of the best books that I have ever read. It was funny, adventurous, and very much like real life. It was adventurous because the two main characters, Ruby and Garnet, who are identical twins, ask their dad (their mom is dead) if they can audition for a twin commercial, but he says no. Regardless of this, they go to New York and audition. It was funny because their dad met someone that they hate and they do funny things like confuse her, throw-up on her, etc. This is realistic because she made these two characters act how real twins act-I would know because I have a twin sister. Jacqueline wilson has a very unique writing style. she uses cliffhangers, and writes in a way that there is never a part whereit isn't interesting, boring or obvious. this is a book that you just can't put down! When you come acorss a book well-written, like this one, you say, "Mom, just let me finish this chapter I have just one more page to finish!" You really have three, but anything to read more of it! I suggest this book to anyone who like funny, adventurous, and realistic books.

4-0 out of 5 stars Double Act
Welcome to Double Act by Jacqueline Wilson. This book is about 2 girls that are twins. Their names are Ruby and Garnet. They really don't like their Dad's new girlfriend. Their real mother died when they were little. Now their whole life is ruined when Rose comes in. If you want to find out more, just buy the book, you'll love it!

I liked this book because I remebered my old friends when reading it. They don't like their stepmother either. They are aleays crying because they want their mother back.

I would like to recommend this book to my friends and to all the girls that like reading about twins. I bet that when you get this book you won't want to put it down.

2-0 out of 5 stars Double Act
The author of this book is Jacueline wilson. This book is about two twins named Ruby and Garnet that have probloms in there life. Some probloms they fix and some they dont. There dad also has a new girlfriend named Rose and she brings even more afliction into the family.

What i liked about the book was that the story was told by the twins. I think that if the story was told by the authors point of view it would be very tiresome. I think it was great that both of the twins got to write in the book because its fastidious to know somthing from two point of view.

I would rate this book a little under ok because it wasnt such an exciting book.I think this book should be for 5th graders cause its boring for older people.

5-0 out of 5 stars More than a double act
