5-0 out of 5 stars an awsome book
This is a good book for any ages but better for younger kids, but i still love these books i have the CD's my brother and i listen to them ALL the time, they are fun to listen and Jessica IS A VERY CREATIVE song writer and an author, the CD's and the books are amazing and i think everyone should get her CD's and books!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars What's Going on in Nora's Room?
"Crash! Bang! Crash! Bang! Boom! Something's going on in Nora's room!" Mother, cooking dinner, baby twins playing in the kitchen, the family dog and even a pet parakeet wonder at all the noise from upstairs. "How much noise does a little girl need? Sounds like the whole city zoo got freed!" Could it be bears dancing with moose, rhinos playing musical chairs or gorillas playing duck, duck, goose? Maybe it's an elephant hoedown or a couple of giants sitting on a town. Let's go upstairs to the door that says "Enter if you Dare" and find out..... The dynamic sister duo of Jessica Harper and Lindsay Harper duPont have authored another clever, silly picture book that's perfect for youngsters 3-7. Ms Harper's humorous rhyming text is complemented by her sister's wonderfully expressive and colorful illustrations and together they've created a charming, joyful story, with a little joke at the end, that won't be lost on young readers. So take a deep breath, open that bedroom door and find out what Nora's up to. ... Read more

Book Description

Corduroy has a lot to do at school today. He has to bring in something that starts with the letter "B," feed the classroom pets, listen to a story, paint, have a snack, and help clean up. And all of his favorite friends are there to share the school day with him. In seven colorful spreads, children can lift the flaps and see what's hiding in the cubby, behind the swing, under the drawing pad or in many more inventive places.

And Corduroy, the lovable, cuddly bear, is just the right, reassuring presence to make children feel comfortable with all the early experiences school can bring.

1-0 out of 5 stars Maybe the EDITORS Should Go to School
My 21-month-old son enjoys this cute book immensely, but it contains a serious error. The book states that Corduroy makes "a big blue 'B,' and a big green 'C,' but the illustration shows a red (rather than blue) B and a purple (rather than green) C. That is an unforgivable mistake for a book that should be helping children learn to identify colors. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This book is better than a one-star!
A very quick read, granted, but the illustrations are beautiful. This is the kind of book youngsters will want to look at again and again. I haven't compared it to Yolen's other books, so maybe I would give it less, but for now it deserves a 4.

1-0 out of 5 stars "Welcome to the Ice House" by Jane Yolen
Owning wonderful "Alphabeastiary" and "Owl Moon" by Yolen mistakenly led us to this book. Text is barely verbal and vacant, certainly not any great addition to our science collection, as Booklist review tends to indicate. Splitting a sentence between four pages is not our idea of reading. Any parents who are reading for literary enhancement should find something else. The star we give is for illustrations, nothing more. The illustrator should have put as much effort into the interior as she did the cover. Too bad, overall disappointment. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful pop-up book!
This book is so cute! These smaller pop-up Snappy books are on par with the bigger versions, but are 1/3rd the price! I was shocked at how cute the animals inside are! There is an alligator, like on the cover, an elephant, a bear, a tiger, and a hippo. They are all surrounded by bright colors and other animals. They pop out of the page in true 3D style. It amazed me so much, I quickly bought the entire series...You can not go wrong at any age group! My 9-month-old baby loves these books and so do I at 36! This book is one of the best ones out there and is destined to be around for decades to come. ... Read more

A delightful story, teaching values and character with wonderful illustrations rich in texture and life.

Laying it on thick? I don't think so. As a father of 2 under age 3, I look for a long list of qualities in a children's book. - Scary elements aren't overdone - Story makes a point or teaches values - Story is fun - Illustrations are warm and colorful - Short enough my kids don't lose interest - Long enough we don't have to read it more than twice in a sitting - Durable construction to handle my kids

You don't neccessarily need all of these to have a great book, but when you find them all, you've got a gem. ... Read more

Book Description

A fascinating behind-the-scenes look at what zoo animals eat, and why.

How do you feed a hungry crocodile without becoming dinner yourself?
What do you feed a baby porcupine?
Do elephants need vitamin pills?

In the wild, animals can usually find the foods they need to eat. But zoo animals can't go out and search for their own meals. Instead, nutritionists must discover what foods each animal needs to stay healthy and happy. Whether serving lunch to poisonous snakes, making dinner for a thousand animals at once, or caring for babies who have lost their mothers, life for the zoo staff is never dull.

This fascinating and informative book looks behind the scenes at some of the largest zoos in the country to discover what--and how--they feed their animals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Clear, fun, and informative text
In the wild, animals can usually find the right things to eat. But zoo animals can't search for their own meals; they must rely on the people who care for them. Nutritionists and zookeepers must discover what foods each animal needs to stay healthy and happy within the confines of the modern zoo. And they have to know how to serve lunch to a poisonous snake, make dinner for a thousand animals at once, feed babies who have lost their mothers, provide the nutrients rare animals need to successfully procreate and nurse their offspring, and more. Very highly recommended for school and community library pet/wildlife collections, Lunch At The Zoo: What Zoo Animals Eat And Why is a splendid introduction to this complex subject as it takes young readers behind the scenes at some of the largest zoos in the country to discover what (and how) their animals are fed. Joyce Altman's clear, fun, and informative text is nicely illustrated throughout by black and white photography, and illustrations by Rick Chrustowski. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Introducing Children to the World of Zoo Animals
DK Publishing has joined forces with Baby Genius to create entertaining books for babies. These books combine Baby Genius' philosophy with DK's amazing photographs and designs. Baby Genius is a leading producer/publisher of classical, instrumental and vocal CDs and videos for young children.

In this book, children are introduced to the world of wild and exotic animals. Fun words and full-color photographs will delight babies and hold their interest.

Zoo Animals is a sturdy 16-page book that can be enjoyed for years. The photography is so good you can almost imagine reaching out and touching the page and actually feeling the leopard's fur or the petting the tiny tiger cub's fur. The photography is simply stunning.

This book contains pictures of leopards catnapping, giraffes sticking their tongue out (really funny), baby elephants drinking at a water hole, Zebras smiling, turtles swimming under water, baby tigers hanging out together all in a row and a group of lemurs with stunning amber eyes.

On the left side you find one animal with the name in large print. Then, on the adjacent page, you see three photographs of the animals in their natural habitat.

Highly recommended for the amusement value alone. Some of my earliest childhood memories included seeing a giraffe and elephant at a zoo. This is a book babies and toddlers will enjoy and a trip to the zoo will enhance the reading experience.
