Book Description Meet ten-year-old Lord of the Rings nerd Jason Fox and his high-school freshman sister, Paige. Jason can't believe he and his sister are both vying for front-row seats to the release of the movie. There's no denying that things will never be the same with heartthrob Orlando Bloom's involvement in Jason's favorite series. Don't forget their underachieving older brother, Peter. With three strong adolescent personalities in one household, colorful stuff often hits the fan; dad Roger usually ducks to avoid it, while mom Andy tries to keep it from staining the rug. Orlando Bloom Has Ruined Everything lampoons memorable moments from 2003 and 2004, such as the East Coast blackout. In the FoxTrot version, an "ink outage" renders several days' strips only partially drawn. "I called Funky Winkerbean. He says the ink's out over the entire grid," Jason reports. In another series of strips, Jason's latest money-making scheme involves creating an animated film to rival the box office blockbusters of Pixar and Dreamworks: "It's the tender story of a leech's search for his missing son. I'm calling it Finding Hemo. The success of FoxTrot has yielded consequences creator Bill Amend may never have imagined. The strip has been used as a question on the game show Jeopardy! and as an answer in the New York Times crossword. It's a fitting irony that FoxTrot has become a fixture of pop culture, the very phenomenon it parodies with such keen wit.

Book Description Bill Amend does it better than anybody else. His ability to present middle-class family life in a way that's consistently fresh, irreverent, and downright wacky is unsurpassed. If asked'and they are each day they open the more than 1,000 newspapers that carry his strip'Amend's audience of 25 million readers would say the same thing. That committed and connected audience will be delighted once again to discover Who's Up for Some Bonding', the latest in a series that includes 18 previous collections and eight treasuries, amounting to nearly two million FoxTrot books in circulation. This time around, Amend's antics with the Fox family include the artist's invitingly skewed views of 'normal' life: children who are light-years ahead of their parents when it comes to computers, siblings who could teach the CIA a thing or two about covert and 'get-even' ops, and parents who stumble around in a slight daze as they deal with all the 'amenities' of the modern world.Jason, Peter, Paige, and their parents, Roger and Andy, deliver the laughs. They all bring their unique personalities and perspectives to the FoxTrot world, whether the subject is technology, tofu recipes . . . or a son convinced he could be the next zillionaire Martha Stewart. FoxTrot surprises. FoxTrot charms. FoxTrot always satisfies. Reviews (12)
Some of the high points of the book: Peter dog-sits for Fauntleroy - again - and the tiny terror drives him nuts - again. Jason prepares for the "Spider-Man" movie, but his homemade web-shooter keeps backfiring. Jason shines as usual on Halloween week. Peter reads "The Odyssey" for class and has a nightmare of epic proportions. Any strip dealing with the iFruit (the family's obnoxious computer). Don't miss this hilarious collection - it'll go fast.
Included is the sage of Jason's Spider-Man movie anticipation, or "When web shooters go bad", as well as the Star Wars II wait. You'll also laugh as Jason prepares to take over Martha Stewart's million dollar empire, and goes camping with the rest of the family. Bottom line, I get genuinely concerned when/if I don't understand the humor in a Foxtrot comic, or if I fail to smile or laugh, and I'm quite positive you'll enjoy this book at least as much as I did. That's how good this comic strip is. Yes, there are reused jokes...but to anyone who might complain about them, you have to remember that SOMETHING kept them reading long enough to discover reused jokes!

For the parents: Being a teen myself, I thought I'd stick a note in case there are any parents out there, getting this for kids. Amend is somewhat disappointing on occasion. Example, in one comic, Peter Fox has a dream of making out with two Sports Illustrated models, who are in (cartoon, of course) skimpy suits. The two suggest they take the suits off, but Peter is awakened in the next panel. Kind of an appeal to the carnal side, but I try to ignore it. Most of the rest of the strips are just fine.
In conclusion, Bill Amend is a total genius and I hope that he continues to draw Foxtrot for many years to come.
"FoxTrot" is one of the few strips left that can be funny without being syrupy, hasn't been rehashing the same old jokes for decades and doesn't politicize to such an extent that you wish it would be moved to the editorial page. In five main characters, Amend has an almost infinite number of story possibilities -- the health nut mom, the doofus dad, sports-crazed Peter, boy-crazed Paige and the frightening boy genius Jason. Jason is easily my favorite character, and I suspect Amend created him as an outlet for his own inner geek. Strips like Jason's preparations for the new "Star Trek" movie or the one where he demands a refund for a comic book due to a piddling continuity error are the sort of things that only a real Trekker or comic reader could draw with such affection. I've got all but two of the FoxTrot anthologies and I plan to own them all in short order -- but this is my favorite because the strips in here chronicle the period where my local newspaper started to carry it. These are the strips that first introduced me to the Fox family. I still look for them every morning. ... Read more

The actual "camp" doesn't happen until somewhere near the middle of the book, where brainy Jason and his friend Marcus go to Geek Camp for the summer, just to let you know, but you won't mind, I promise. There is a delightful little bonus kindly provided by the author at the end ("My publisher tells me I have six blank pages to fill") which documents the path that Amend started down in order to become the success he is today. Amend takes six pages to discuss how he creates the strips (does he draw them, or think up the plotline first?) and how he submits and is hired out to do them regularly (so what exactly is the running salary for a cartoonist these days anyway?) with tips on how a person with talent can attempt to do the same. I get genuinely concerned when/if I don't understand the humor in a Foxtrot comic, or if I fail to smile or laugh. That's how good this comic strip is. Yes, there are reused jokes...but to anyone who might complain about them, you have to remember that SOMETHING kept them reading long enough to notice reused jokes!
This book just adds to the collection of great books for a great comic strip. Highly Recommended. ... Read more

Book Description Reviews (14)
"Think iFruity" is a collection of daily and Sunday FoxTrot comic strips. It starts with the dad, Roger, buying a Mobycom-2000 cell phone (think Titanic), and ends with Peter being disappointed with his Physics Lab. In between, the family gets their new "iFruit" computer (mango-kiwi, thank you), Roger goes a day without coffee (not a pretty sight), Paige fills her aquarium before taking it upstairs, and Jason kills off the Internet (makes the "I Love You" virus look like the sniffles).
"Think iFruity" is yet another fabulous FoxTrot collection that is 127 pages of fun-filled comic antics from Roger (the father), Andy (the wife), Peter (the oldest son), Paige (the daughter), and Jason (the youngest son who has a pet iguana). One of the main story points that surrounds this collection is when the family must buy a new computer, and to Jason's absolute horror it is an "iFruity." How will the family cope with the change? Will Jason lose his mind and trash the computer himself? You'll have to wait and see what happens. Other funny scenarios included in this fine collection: *Roger's "Mobycom-2000"* Bill Amend has never failed to get more than a few laughs out of me with his funny characters. The strips are topical, witty, clever and downright hilarious. He never runs out of ideas or storylines, and he always uses his characters to their full potential. This collection is just as funny as the previous ones, if not more. I am never bored when reading FoxTrot, and I was never bored during my reading of this particular collection. A job well done on all fronts. "Think iFruity" is another hilarious FoxTrot chapter that definitely needs to be a part of your FoxTrot collection. And if you have not read FoxTrot, the more reason to check this out! If you're looking for an entertaining read that won't take up a lot of your time, this FoxTrot collection is just the fix for you. A great read that will have you laughing from the start. -Michael Crane

Of course their's Quincy and Marcus, but Jason is probably the head of this collection. Well just look at the title. Bill Amend does a very good job at this. I've got to say out of all the foxtrot collections I've read (that is all of them) this ranks in the top three (out of 12). You won't be disappointed if you buy Welcome to Jasorassic Park.

Book Description "FoxTrot" has surpassed the two million mark in book sales and is featured in more than 1,000 newspapers. Established as one of America's most popular comic strips, Bill Amend's "FoxTrot" cleverly portrays the zany, crazy Fox household. Readers laugh along as Paige desperately tries to find a geometry book-on-tape for her final, Peter attempts to gain weight for swimsuit season, Jason takes up snow bowling, and their parents do the best they can in the midst of it all, dealing with such delicate family situations as ordering one pizza everyone likes. The FoxTrot 2005 Calendar features these Fox family adventures and more with a different strip each day.

Even though Amend would later develop a formula for the cartoon that was probably just a bit too predictable, here there are little indications of a formula, even if the characters would hardly change over the next fifteen years. Roger was the father/husband and the breadmaker of the group, and he had a small tendency to make a fool of himself (check out the set of strips where he attempts to lead a laptop computer seminar, yet he doesn't even know how to turn a computer on). Andy (short for Andrea) was the mother/housewife of the clan, and while she made sure Roger and the children were kept in place, she was still not the ideal parent; for instance, she was often unable to motivate herself when on her own. Peter, the older son/brother, was a high school junior who had virtually no luck finding a date, let alone a girlfriend (surprised? Well, this scenario changes by the end of the book). Paige, the lone daughter/sister, was a high school freshman who, like Peter, also had little hope of finding a date, and was often picked on by younger brother Jason. Fifth-grader Jason was decidedly the nerd of the bunch, as he would practically die without a computer, but could live happily ever after without athletic sports and girls. And as for the strips themselves? Well, as far as this set goes, they remain fresh for the most part- perhaps a little naive every now and then, but consistently funny from start to finish. Some fans may be a little surprised that the drawings are a little raw and unpolished, but such a complaint is irrelevant when the strips are funny. That's why any diehard fan of FoxTrot should consider having this book in their FoxTrot memorabilia, as it clearly depicts the origins of some of the most memorable characters in the history of the comic strip.
On with the review: There, not-so-suprisingly, are very huge artistic contrasts in the FoxTrot comics between now and 1988. There is even a change of drawing styles even inside this book, containing the first 10-11 months of FoxTrot cartoons. Even way back then, Amend (rhymes with "Raymond") still had a creative mind. In one Sunday cartoon, Roger was reading the Sunday comics; and on that fictional newspaper was the first panel of the cartoon that you were reading. While Paige was at the dance, you could see the different things going on in the background. Aside from all of the stupid little things, this is a wonderfully compiled book of laughs, and Amend's creativity will force you to smile. A must have!!

Everything is fair game in the Fox Family. Jason continues to drive his sister insane with his various toy weapons and pet iguana. Peter is still doing essays at the last minute (literally!) and is driving his parents nuts with his loud music. And of course, Andy has to put up with her husband's stupidity and insanity. Yes, it is an ordinary day for the Fox Family. In addition to the triumphant return (return?) of the Lone Iguana, you'll also get: *Paige's mall trip with Peter* *Jason's new internet* and a whole lot more! "The Return of the Lone Iguana" is a hilarious FoxTrot collection that does not disappoint for a single second. If you're a fan of the comic strip, then I highly recommend checking it out.
