Book Description

A psychopath is on the loose, killing kids and cutting off their hands. As if that weren't enough, Ryo gets an in-depth look at Dee's parentless childhood and the man who inspired Dee to become a cop. But when a little too much information about Dee's de facto dad comes to light, it could destroy Dee's two greatest passions: police work and Ryo! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Better then the last one.
I very much enjoyed the story behind Dee becoming a cop. It makes a certain amount of sense, that his inspiration is not a perfect superman.

And, of course, Carol is the sort of girl that all evil criminals should be beware of.

5-0 out of 5 stars Things are getting really "steamy" now!
I just love this manga! I put off reading it until recently because it is "yaoi" and I'm not into male/male relationships, but these two are so-o-o-o pretty, you just don't think of them that way. Dee and Ryo are definitely heading into the final showdown of their relationship saga, so I can't wait until volume seven (some definite "bedtime" action was goin' on!). Carol, Ryo's friend, is stalked by a serial killer with a penchant for collecting hands from his victims, and Dee takes a look back at the man who inspired him to become a cop. All in all, a great lead up to the final volume. A definite read for those into a great romance/comedy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dee and Ryo:Ready for action!
This Manga is a great read.Though it is a Yaoi or male 2 male relationship manga. It has a wonderful story line that has many twists and turns and the art is ready good. The two main characters are Dee and Ryo two new york city cops that just want to be where the action is!Dee is the smartmouthed guy that has a strong drive to be the best. And Ryo is the regular old good guy with a sad past. When these two team up they really kick butt! The manga is really funny and the romamance is kinda Kawaii! so even if you don't really like detective stories or romantic mangas. This One

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
Demon Diary has got to be one of the best manga I've ever read. Wait, scratch that. It's actually manwha, seeing it comes from Korea. ^^ The art is just beautiful, as the other reviewers have mentioned. The storyline is good, but having switched authors after the first book, the second author probably changed the storyline. It's a shame though. Most people would expect a big war between the angels and demons, but nope. It ended with a so-so ending. RAENEF AND ECLIPSE DIDN'T EVEN KISS! That's pure evil!! I'm fuming with anger because of that. Other than that, it's a great buy. It's a shame that it ended so soon. Bye bye Demon Diary! T.T

4-0 out of 5 stars It's over?
I can't believe this series only went 7 volumes (and anyone who's reviewing the series as a whole here is mean because some of us haven't read vol 7 yet). As others have said, the artwork throughout has been amazing. Although there was some stylistic changes when the writers switched, I probably wouldn't have noticed if the intro hadn't highlighted it. What makes the short series even more of a disappointment is that I didn't think that the story warmed up until volumes 5 and 6 where the characters, especially Esclipse and Raenef showed tremendous growth...Very sad to see it end.

5-0 out of 5 stars The answer to the question...
Okay, since one of the reviewers was confused as to why the ending of volume seven never featured the older Raenef in the first volume, I decided to go ahead and clear that up. *Ahem* You'll notice that Demon Diary had two authors in the series. The first was Lee Chi Hyong, who left shortly after the first book came out due to college entrance exams. When Lee Yun Hee came along, she didn't pick up on that part of the story, therefore, it was never featured. Maybe they believed it was better just to leave it out...Who knows? I'm not going to spoil the ending for the readers, but I must say, it could have been slightly better. It was very good, but I was expecting more...Eh, whatever. It still remains my favorite series still!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect ending to a perfect series!
It sure is a shock that demon diary is already over! Lets face it, this series was way too short. But of all the ways for a series to end, I love the way demon diary ended.
The series ended just the way it began, wonderfully. It ended with poor little Raenef finally gaining respect of the other demon lords, not to mention the fact that he also regained his memory.
The last book was mainly just a recap, and was tying up loose ends, but it was a great book. I really hope this isn't the end of the demon lord's story!! I hope to see more of these characters soon!
From the beginning i knew that demon diary had a lot of potential. But I never knew it would get so good so quickly! It had a complex plot, but still had enough room to jamm pack loads of hilarious and very cute moments in there. I just loved the story soo much, I'm sorry to see it end.
Demon Diary is one of the very few series' that held my attention long enough for me to read the last novel. I always enjoyed it, and I probably always will. So with that said... GOODBYE DEMON DIARY!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Demon Diary, Book 7's fatal end
I have to admit. I love Demon Diary from the bottom of my heart. I love the artwork, I love the story, and everything else about it. Except for one thing, the ending. I'm sorry Lee Yun Hee, but that ending just sucked. I'm a big manga fanatic, so I know what I'm talking about. The first 6 books I absolutely loved and there's something that confuses me in the first book. (If you haven't read the first book, then you won't know what I'm talking about)You know how there's that part in there that shows Raenef as a few years older? Well, it has nothing to do with any of the other books and I thought it would be in the last book. But it wasn't, so that's a big let down. And what about the girl with bunny ears? Anyway, I'm not trying to descourage anyone from buying number 7(or the whole series) I'm just saying that it was a bad way to end the book and was kind of weird(in my opinion). If you haven't bought a book from Demon Diary, then I'm telling you to buy one now and drool over the Great Kara-san's artwork! So think happy thoughts, read lots of manga, and spend lots of money! 5-0 out of 5 stars A Treasure of Romantic Images from a Bygone Time
This is a must for any fan of the Crimson Pig.I originally got my copy for inspiration for building models of the various aircraft featured in the story.I was hoping for more images of the gunsmith's shop and the hanger where they rebuilt Porco's plane, but was completely satisfied with the content.Just a relaxing collection of artwork from a time when people knew how to behave like ladies and gentlemen... and pirates.

1-0 out of 5 stars Inadequate
I love Elfquest, and have been a long-time fan of Wendy Pini's moving stories and delicate, sensitive artwork. That said, these "pocket-sized" versions of Elfquest are a travesty. In the early ones the art is so small you can barely tell what's going on, and in the later books, such as this one, it appears that they have attempted to reorganize the art -- splitting what was originally one page into 2.This has resulted in the art being big enough to see, but the layouts of the pages appearing haphazard. Also, because these books are often grayscaled reproductions of what was originally color art, the art looks muddy.Even later editions have that problem.

I'd recommend that both long-time fans and newbies avoid these editions like the plague, and do the best you can to get ahold of the original issues, or at least the older, full-sized graphic novels that Warp produced in the 90's. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely amazing!
Oh, how it pains me to read a volume of Berserk, each one leaving me pining even more so for the next one. For fans of the anime series, volume three is THE volume to own! Where the first two books started off showing a bit more of Guts life right at the moment, not much reference is really made to the part of the story shown to us in the anime, which was pretty much one giant flashback.

However, in this volume, we get to see Griffith!! Already a proud member of the demonic Godhand (and loving it, may I add), the interaction between the two is absolutely fascination. And, there is a also a flashback to when Griffith and Guts used to fight battles together, back when Griffith was still Guts' Idol.

And, might I add, I really like Puck, a character unique to the manga alone. With the story being as graphically violent as it is, its kind of nice seeing a little compassion comeing from somewhere at least. This little Elf is pretty darn cute and he does add a bit of comic relief.

But best of all, in this volume, we get to see baby Guts!! He's so cute!! And 3 year old guts, and 6 year old guts, and 9 year old guts! (I'm sure you see a pattern here). After finishing the exciting story arc of the mad ruler turned demon slug type creature, we are shown a flashback of Guts' birth and past growing up. Most of this was depicted in the anime, but we see slight variations. His adopted father, while being depicted in the anime as being moderately cruel all throughout (not counting when he totally loses it at the end), he is shown here with a wider variety of personas, going from horribly cruel, to surprising moments of kindness.

However, the end leaves you hanging with a part of his past that wasn't in the anime at all, so I'm absolutely dying for the next volume. This is a series that you won't want to miss. Berserk is my all time favorite manga and anime ever! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Generic Plotline, but with an ok twist
This manga, DearS, is very similiar to every other "boy finds robot/alien/whatever girl" type of a story...where the predictable quasi-girl acts as some kind of a temptress and the guy is not like any man on this planet, and somehow, through stupidity usually, acts like a jerk to the girl. So, with that in mind, this is almost like every other manga ever made...Chobits, Saber Marionette J, Mahoromatic, AI Love You, Tenchi, and the list goes on.

If you like those types, then this may be worth the read. But, I mean, if you were able to read all those I listed above and still not become sick of this genre. This story has some very weird parts of the story where you may have no clue what is going on, but like every story that follows that same general plot, it has some interesting stories and character interactions. As well, I give a thumbs-up to the art...probably a little bit more risque than the recommended 13 and over, but still good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Anime Alien Babes +1
As most reviews and intros have said about DearS, the story goes about as an alien girl finds her way into the life of an ordinary guy who stands indifferent on the whole aliens-living-among-us facade. It should be noted that even though the book says it's for ages 13 and up (Teen), it should've been more towards the ways of 16 and up in areas, or at least any part concerning the teacher who is driven by sexual desire it seems.

As far as the story goes, it feels a bit like Chobits without as much of it's morals, but brings in it's own bag of morals as well. The DearS, being as attractive and kind as they are, were a slave race who's ship crashed landed in Japan over a year ago. Being a slave race in a world where you're free to do as you wish can be hard on some. In case with Ren, the main DearS character of the story, it was as if she just landed on Earth herself, unable to speak the language nor what to do or where to go. After stumbling into Takeya, the main guy lead, things start to change, for the both of them.

Overall, I'm like the story, if not just for the plot line as with it's different art style. This does not look like your Chobits/Love Hina artstyle that some people are used to in the "Pretty Girl" genré. Aside from some overproportions the character have that soft feel to them, with a lot of free forming of the hair, particularly in Ren. The book also switches from chibi (cute, quick characters) to very detailed, but not as much to interupt the flow of believement in those characters.

DearS definately gets my recommandation if you're into the Pretty Girl genré. For those starting to read in that area, it probably won't change you over, but it'll get you to wonder how things will turn out in the next book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Just Another Manga...
I purchased this novel at my local Books-a-Million just a week ago. I bought it because the storyline was supposed to be similar to anither series-Chobits. But not only was it similar, it seemed to be just a repeat of the best-selling series by CLAMP! Everything was predictable and the ending is predictable as well(I read an overview of the whole series online). The comedy was extremely childish and nothing remarkable. In one scene, Takeya(owner of DearS)goes shopping with Ren(the DearS). His friend, the landlord's daughter, comes along. They go shopping for underclothes for Ren and suddenly, Takeya's teacher comes out of the dressing room with a g-string thong and bra that only has three flowers for covering! The teacher also comes to class with similar outfits on and says things you know a woman would not say(poor translation or just poor writing, I dunno). Lame comedy runs rampant as well. If you have read over 5 mangas, you will find yourself predicting every single action. The whole thing is just a Chobits copy for 13 year old perverts! Also, Peach-Pit, the creators, started out as a doushijin artist. Doushigin artists simply take other manga-kas characters and make up comics with them, usually distastefully sexual, as DearS is!

Overall, don't waste money on this distasteful, juvenile copy. If you're curious, just read it at your local Books-a-Million or Waldenbooks, but it's really not worth it. If you're over 13 and want something romantic, hilarious, and tastefully sexually perverted, read CHOBITS by CLAMP. It remains one of the best-selling mangas of all-time and is way better than cheap imitations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Back and better than ever!
This is another great book in the excellent "Akiko" series. The first thing you'll notice is that Akiko has a new, more mature look and personality. The changes are realistic, though, so it feels more like she's growing up along with you, instead of like she's become someone unfamiliar. In this chapter of the series, Akiko, along with her friends, is sent to a tough training school on the planet Zarga Baffa. There, she must survive challenges such as Humbling Week, Yoodoo Egg Rescue, and Nagnog Lizard Riding. The plot moves at a fast clip (I finished it in 2 1/2 hours), and the tone is consistently upbeat and humorous, making it a smooth, enjoyable read for kids, teens and adults alike. It's also important to note that this can be read even if you don't have any prior experience with the series, since it starts off as a new adventure and ends neatly and happily. I would reccomend reading the other books first, though, because you'll be more familiar with the characters. Overall, this is a wonderful book for all ages and reading levels. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I had hoped.
I got this book pretty much based on the front cover, I have to say. While that is my fault, it's misleading. I wanted to learn to draw nekos (cat-girls), which I couldn't find in the book. One thing though, there were some cool sections about Japanese mythology and monsters.

I do like this book, it just wasn't as good as I hoped. I still look through it when I'm drawing, but I think only one picture (chibi devil girl) actually has any elements from this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Tettering over the edge
Don't let ANYONE fool you. The books at this level of "How to Draw Manga" series are not for beginners. Don't let anyone come and tell you that you'll get step by step instructions...because you won't. Especially not in this book.

BUT WAIT! Don't go off just because of that. This book isn't so much about walking you through things as it is about giving some EXTREMELY useful tips. While using this book I found myself looking back and saying..."Wait I ALREADY DO THAT!" And by paying attention to the techniques I was using for the genre unconciously I was able to refine and get better! If your interested in Occult, Horror, Fantasty, and magic based comics I'd suggest this book greatly. It's a nice RESOURCE.

Buy it as soon as you can. Just don't expect to have steps taken with you. This is a "Look at us do it and now YOU do it." Also for you strict pencillers out there, some of the inking techniques in this book can be applied to you. I don't like inking my work unless it's to certain parts. Never as a whole. So I mimicked alot of this in pencil. Hope this helps people! Bye bye!

5-0 out of 5 stars Yay!!
A whole variety of fun ideas and techniques offered. Everything from how to get that severed limb just perfectly gory looking, to drawing convincing backdrops of many moods.

One of the coolest facets of this book is the fact that they explain what various drawn japanese expressions mean. I watch animae a little differently now- pretty nifty, indeed.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
Im sure all of you manga artists out there have probably heard of the "how to draw mang" series, although most of the books are for experts a begginer such as myself can learn a whole lot out of a book like this. The book concentrates on things like monsters and gosts ect.. The book shows some background techniques (very important) and as another reveiwer said there are a lot of RPG character ideas. The bad side: None of the how to draw manga series shows how to draw manga step by step if the book showed step by step it would definetly earn its 5th star. Although I must admit it is sometimes fun just copying the pics. It may seem expensive but trust me its worth every penny. for those who like step by step then perhaps a Christopher Hart book may be best for U

Thanks for reading my review !!

5-0 out of 5 stars yet another enjoyable addition to the series
I wouldn't recommend reading this book if you haven't at least read the first book, and even then this might be confusing. It begins with a continuation of the confrontation that began in the third book. Kagome has been kidnapped by a pair of demons, the Thunder Brothers, but she manages to convince them that she'd be of more use to them alive than dead. They find Inu-yasha because they want the shards of the Shikon Jewel that he has, in order to increase their own demonic powers. In the second half of the book, Kagome is back in her own time period and trying to survive school. Unfortunately, she can never seem to get anything done without something supernatural appearing. Kagome has to somehow get a dead girl to find peace before the Tatari-mokke, a demon that plays with the ghosts of newly dead children, opens its eyes. The girl will go to hell if she can't find peace before then. The second part of the book is, I think, the first time that Kagome and Inu-yasha have ever done anything that didn't give them the possibility of recovering a shard of the Jewel. Rumiko Takahashi handles the death of a child and the idea of learning forgiveness very nicely in that second part.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yet Another Excellent Manga By Rumiko Takahashi
This book is a definite MUST-BUY for all Rumiko Takahashi fans, like me, or even just a manga fan. The story is interesting and it was easy for me to get hooked on it. Ever since I've been introduced to this manga, I have also given it to my friends to read and they all loved it. Before you read Inu-Yasha, though, you might also want to consider buying Ranma 1/2 to get you into the manga spirit. Ranma 1/2 is also by Rumiko Takahashi. It is easy reading, hillarious, and another MUST-BUY. I've read several reviews before I wrote this and Inu58 had mentioned an Inu-Yasha translations site, for those who want to get ahead and read their way up to book 13, which is what Japan is up to at this moment. The page is an excellent information site for new inu-yasha fans and those loyal fans who have to go through a painful week of waiting for a new translated chapter. For those who only know Pokemon, Sailormoon and Dragon Ball, I will have to say that ALL of Rumiko Takahashi's works are way better than any of those other manga. Unlike those, Rumiko Takahashi actually includes funny scenes and excellent drawings instead of tasteless humor and bad artwork.

So, try this out (you may want to start with book one) and you are guaranteed to enjoy it as much as I have!

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE MOST COOL BOOKS!!
This is a really awesome book. Especially with the thunder brothers--Hiten and Manten--who kidnapped Kagome. Inu-Yasha is forced to fight not only to keep the shards, but to hide a secret I think even his own heart was keeping from him, by saving Kagome. It's sweet with the scenes and the tension between the strong, Shikon-Jewel-souped-up, full-demon Hiten against Inu-Yasha; Shippo, as little as he is, trying to help; Kagome trying to set some memories right with the little one. Even though our hero is only half-demon, he is--as one of the chapters says--a half-demon is better than one.

Pacifing the angry soul of Mayu gives you a chance to see Kagome's really strength and determination. Guess Inu-Yasha does need her, huh? (And not just as a shard detector) Though you don't see him nearly as much in this little story of the book, he's still a big focus.
This one deserves 5 stars; you can call me bias, don't care.

(By the way, will somebody ever slap Hojo with a stick of knowledge? Because if someone says they slapped him with a stupid stick, I'd disagree. I'd still disagree if they said he was beaten with it. I'd say he had a severe fall down the whole dang tree!!!)
CYAS!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
It basicaly continue from volume three, then has a short story when Kagome go back during her time and meet a dead girl! Read it!!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Blood 'N Guts 'N Sushi! by A 13 year-old in San Diego
Actualy Im 13, I just had to say Im 12 to do this form.

This was a pretty good book. Its Manga, Main-Gah, a Japanese comic-book, er, "Graphic Novel." This is by the same guy, I meen Girl, as the one who did Ranma 1/2. Her name is Rumiko takahashi... Or some thing like that. She is a really great artist, and does the best art in any manga ever! Now for the plot:

A girl named Kagomi- Kah go mee, I think,- is in present day Japan, but falls down her familie's anchient-Sacred well, trying to get her little brothers cat out. She wakes up in Feudal Japan with a demon centapede after her!

There she meets a strange half dog-Demon boy named Inu-yasha, who beleives her to be the incarnation of Kragomi,a Preistess of the Shikon Jewel, The women he once loved, the woman who killed him once...Or did she? He is on a quest to find the Shikon, for in will make him a full demon. Unfortunatly Kagomi breakes the Jewel, scattering the peices over all Japan. Now the two, A rude young dog-demon boy, and a modern schoolgirl, must team up to recover the jewel shards.

Warning- Japanese manga is very different from U.s comics:

More Blood, less violence.
Plenty of rok'im sok'm fights.

Better artwork, better plot, less dialoge.

Due to Public baths, they have nothing against bare umm...you know. This is kinda embarasing for me, but, I'd advise moms against letting any one under 12 read this, maby 15 for boys. It's not really nasty, just embarrasing. And there is barely any of it in there. ... Read more
