4-0 out of 5 stars The end of the Ginyu force!
The last of the Ginyu force bite the dust in this book. For those not in the know the Ginyu force are super strong aliens that Freeza hired after his henchmen got killed in book number 7. Vegeta kills Jheese and Captain Ginyu (who has the ability to switch bodies) gets trapped in the body of a frog. Quite weird. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome beginning to an awesome variation on the OYW
For those who've seen the original Gundam 0079 TV series, the character personalities, mecha designs and plot synopses differ from it, even if it's just a little bit. Each issue of the manga probably translates into about 1 episode or so of the show, so expect to see about 40-50 issues at the rate Japan's Gundam Ace Magazine is covering it, along with Viz's great translation to English. Once you get the right-to-left reading down, you'll have no trouble understanding it. This issue especially differs from the first episode for a few key reasons, but I'll leave them up to you to notice so as not to spoil anything. I recommend this to anyone looking to get into Gundam manga, the UC timeline, or Gundam in general.

4-0 out of 5 stars A hard story given a modern edge...
Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's mecha and artistic skills work very, very well for this re-telling of the first Gundam story. The Origin is a version of the events that's been tweaked a bit, expanded in some really cool ways (we get to see a fight between a Gundam prototype piloted by an expert, among other things) and thoroughly modernized. The mecha and people still have that 70s Disco-Afro Glow, but the artistic style of the book is much more realistic, with a lot of moody shadows, more detail on the mecha and a weight of credibility slathered over all of the mechanical elements. If you've read the story before, then you won't find much that is new, but Yas' complex, rich illustrations and the modernized mecha designs are worth the cost of the book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is SOO COOL!
This is such a cool book! Lili the main character is soo adventurous!Instead of taking the stairs she jumps off the 2nd floor window! It's funny with good drawings!

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest
I love this book. I think Lili, the main character and skilled detective, has a lot of courage. I mean, I would love to investigate, but it is kind of creepy when you have to investigate a murder case! I like that she stays with a case and never gives up.
About the author: She is a wonderful artist and writer. You can really picture in your head what is happening. Kind of like a movie.

See ya,

5-0 out of 5 stars I knew I would like it
This is probably the first manga I've ever come across that I knew I would like. Usually I just _have_ to know what the plot is, what happens in later books, and stuff like that. But this one, I knew I would love it. The main character is Lili Hoshizawa, whose family has been practicing astrology for generations. Her dad's a cop(though not a very succesful one), and her mom is....well, missing. Lili is a private investigator who goes by the name of Spica, and no one knows who she is....yet. One day, she ends up landing on a boy she knew ten years ago, but whom she doesn't remember at first. I'd say the funniest thing about him is that he's allergic to girls. Lili uses a 'star ring' to call out the astral spirits of zodiac signs. They give her the horoscope for someone involved in a crime, and use a 'globe of truth' to give her a clue or two. I think it's really funny how her personality reacts with the personality of each sign. This story has it all. Comedy, mystery, and with the books being released as slowly as they are, the plot is really suspenseful! You may not agree, but I think this is a great manga.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most Wanted Manga of the year!!!
A great manga for those into horoscopes, mystery, comedy, and romance. You bring all of those together and wat do u get? Zodiac P.I.!! I really love this manga series so far!! Dont miss ur chance and go get this manga. You'll regret it if u dont.

5-0 out of 5 stars finally...
finally!! a strong, great female main character!
She's not a sissy like in MewMew and sailor moon, but more like Yu Yu Hakusho's Keiko.
This was a great, well-though-out, intriguing book.
I highly recommend it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This one gets a bit serious..... :D
From the first 2 volumes we've come to expect light and fluffy tales of the detective misadventures of the Clamp Elementary School Board: Nokoru, Suoh, and Akira. But in this after the first story, it actually gets serious as it goes into a back story about how Suog and Nokoura met. This is probably the best story in the whole series. While it is still pretty light and fun, it has serious and dark overtones to it as well. It was nice to see a bit of a change of pace, and a little more into to the characters as well.

It makes me wish that this series was longer. I found that with each volume I enjoyed it more and more, and cared about the characters more and more. That is a very impressive feat. I never cared much for Clamp either, but I have come to enjoy several of there other works including: Wish & X/1999.

So, get this volume, it is 100% worth if you even REMOTELY enjoyed the last two volumes. :D

God Bles & *enjoy* ~Amy

5-0 out of 5 stars The boys are back in town...... ;P
After volume 1 I did enjoy "Clamp School Detectives", but I wasn't extremely impressed with it. I just thought it was *cute*. However, with volume 2, it develops the characters of Akira and Suoh more, taking the spotlight away from Nokoru, and as much as I love Nokoru, it was nice to see the other characters fleshed out a bit more. :D Even though the boys do look almost exactly the same, they're personalities really set them apart. Nokoru is the woman obsessed-slacker-genius, Suoh is the martial arts pro, goal focused, and serious one, and Akira is the young innocent master chef whom looks up to his Senpai's with adoration.

The stories in this one are much better too. Especially the story that involves Suoh's search for a girl he saw in the Wisteria.

If you even remotely like volume 1, you will LOVE volume 2.! Its just as much fun, maybe more, and the art work is gorgeous. Its more than a guilty pleasure.

God Bless & *Enjoy* ~Amy

5-0 out of 5 stars A cute, light, and fun read.
This is a manga for those looking for a break from those with heavy subject matter or ones with complicated emotions. This is a manga for those young at heart. :D Anyone with a fun-loving spirit and a non-cynical attitude should love "Clamp School Detectives".

I read this manga because my brother purchased it and had me read it. It took me a while to read because I lost it. And at first I didn't think it was anything special, but once I'd finished it I LOVED IT.! And okay, in reality the odds of finding guys like these, let alone 9-11yrs boys is extremely far-fetched. But even with that in mind, its still a lot of fun. Of course I can't say their the HOTTEST bishounen I've seen in a manga. haha They're little boys, so I they're not even close, but they are very handsome. :D

The manga follows Nokoru Imonoyama, Suoh Takamura, and Akira Ijuyuin, the three members of the Clamp Elementary School Board. They begin solving crimes and mysteries to help Damsels in Distress. And this manga follows their "mini" cases. I hope that in the 2nd volume(which I will be reading shortly), they will be developed a little more character-wise. :D And that the mysteries will be harder to solve as well.! :)

So I *hope* you enjoy it.! God Bless ~Amy

5-0 out of 5 stars The CLAMP School Detectives
I thought this book was excellent because the pictures are great and there is nothing bad about the book. It was fun to read and the characters are very funny. I like the part when he has to do all the paper work and he complains. I also think that the guy with the blue hair is totally hot.

2-0 out of 5 stars Umm...it was okay....I guess....
Well, the plot's pretty simple: three boys named Nokoru (the intelligent one, who LOVES pretty girls), Suoh (the martial artist), and Akira (no, not as in the psychic from the movie 'Akira', but the youngest of the group), who deciede to become detectives for pretty girls.

Well, here are the things I DID like: beautiful drawings from CLAMP, and some good humor.

Here are the many things I didn't like: no character development. It seemed that the three boys were just perfect, perfect, and--oh! I forgot to mention--PERFECT! Not perfect as in they're characters you can adore, perfect as in no flaws. They all get perfect grades. They're all handsome and popular. They're all rich and happy (or maybe it's just Nokoru who's rich). They're all in the greatest school ever. They're all polite and compassionate. Basically, they give you no reason to really care about them because you know their lives are perfect, and the only think that can interupt that is a damsel in distress. Even the so-called "cases" they have to solve have no mystery or suspense to them. All of CLAMP's mangas have characters that you can actually CONNECT with and they have enormous flaws which makes you like them even more but CLAMP school detectives is no exception.

The plot isn't rolling either. It may be because this is a book for all ages and so they didn't want to get our younger readers confused, but it makes the book more boring. They could've had one huge almost-impossible-to-solve case that would effect the lives of the boys, but instead they chose to do mini-cases that weren't very huge.

Another thing I didn't get was why the girls were so all over the 3 boys. I, myself am a girl who gushes over many manga boys (Sesshomaru from Inu-Yasha, Kai from Akira, Yue from Card Captor Sakura, etc.) but I couldn't feel what was so "hot" about the boys who (minus the colors of their hair) looked as though they could be triplets. And the girls even said how there's no manga bishounen (japanese for "pretty boy") that could match the beauty of the three boys. Umm...yeah...sure...

So who do I recommend this item to? Children ages 7+, as the boys will set a good example for them. Teenagers, try something else. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the BEST!!!!
Personally, I believe this is one of the best detectives book I've read. There are so many little details that the main character points out that it's amazing! If you're the type that loves both manga and mystery this is highly recommended

5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE Kindaichi!!!
I stumbled apon this accedentily, sorry for spelling, on the Tokyopop web site. I read the plot and fell in love. I am a HUGE fan of manga and murder mysteries so I got it and I LOVE it it's an amazing manga!!! You also get some major BANG for your BUCK, It's over two hundred paged and only [$$$] which is god for a manga. I can't wait for the rest to come out I promise you I'll buy them all. And if the anime series coems out I'll but that too :)!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Kindaichi is Excellent!
I am a long time fan of Kindaichi and I am thrilled to see that it is finally available in English from Tokyo Pop! The series was very popular in Japan spawning a 50+ episode anime series, 2 animated movies, 2 live action TV series, a live action movie, 2 series of manga, novels, bilingual comics, english novels(printed in Japan), as well as loads of special editions and merchandise!

*ahem*

Hajime Kindaichi is the grandson of the famous Japanese detective Kousuke Kindaichi, a popular fiction character(much like Sherlock Holmes) who was popular in 70's and 80's. Kindaichi is a genius, especially when it comes to solving difficult crimes. Miyuki Nanase is Hajime's oldest friend and she often accompanies him on his adventures.

Each Kindaichi story is a murder mystery(often serial murder) where the murders are carried out in a seemingly impossible way. Kindaichi puts the clues together and finds the link between the victims until he figures out who the murderer is. Then, usually, he tricks the murderer into giving himself(or herself!) away.

Volume 1 "The Opera House Murders" is the tale of Fudo High's drama club who take a trip to an island to prepare for the drama competition in the wake of the suicide of their best actress. One by one, members of the drama club are being murdered in ways that mimic the play they are rehearsing, The Phantom of the Opera. After the first murder all lines of communication with the outside world are cut by a vicious storm and the fact that someone has cut the line on the boat.
I won't say anymore because I don't want to spoil the mystery......

As with all Tokyo Pop titles the print quality is lacking, but for the price there is no sense in complaining. The translation isn't as smooth as it could be. Some of the truly beautiful prose found in both the original Japanese and the bilingual editions are lost. Sometimes the dialogue is choppy and the jokes don't translate well, but overall it isn't a bad translation. One nice thing about the TP editions is the fact that each book is one self contained mystery. The mysteries in the original editions often spanned 2 or 3 smaller books.

Kindaichi is a wonderful read. I loaned my bilingual editions to all of my friends and everyone, male and female, anime fans and otherwise, enjoyed them.

I highly reccomend this to fans of manga and anime, as well as fans of mysteries. Even if you don't normally read mystery stories(like me) give Kindaichi a try. You'll probably enjoy it.

Another plus of these books is the fact that they have a great repeat factor - after the mystery is solved it's fun to read them again and look for the clues(which are there!) that point to the killer!

Just for fun: There is a sequel to this particular storyline. The first animated Kindaichi movie(not currently available R1) is "Return to Hotel Opera" and it draws heavily on the events of this storyline and further explores the past tragedy of the owner. The animated movie is based off a Japanese Kindaichi novel(which is quite a bit better than the animated film - they changed many things in the anime) which is avialable in both Japanese and English, though you may have a tough time finding the English edition outside of Japan. ... The CLAMP School is Japan's top learning institution and home to geniuses and wunderkinds of every make and model. For the little problems, like lost pets and damsels in distress, the CLAMP School Detectives are on the case, but bigger crimes call for bigger crime fighters. Enter Duklyon: the CLAMP School Defenders. Kentarou and Takeshi aren't your typical superheroes, though. In fact, if they didn't have the fearsome taskmaster Erii on their backs all the time, they probably wouldn't go through the trouble. But when an intergalactic mastermind bent on world domination takes root in the CLAMP School, the Duklyon team is in action and on the case. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Duklyon: Clamp School Defenders
This series is SO funny! I mean, Kentaro wants to marry Takeshi, and they always end up with Takeshi chasing Kentaro. And Eri, how she always whacks them with her mallet. And, in the second book, there's a play, and the Kentaro and Takeshi are cast as Duklyon, the real Man with 20 Faces is cast as himself, and the evil people crash it. I love this series SO much! I wish it was longer, though. Two books isn't enough!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love parody
This is a great addition to the clamp world. Cool story, with romantic entanglements, evil villains(kind of), truth, justice, and superhero parodies. And as always great drawings.
