Several decades into the future (2030, to be exact), medical, computer and robotic advancements have placed humans completely dependent on technology to survive. Humans are often augmented with robotic/cybernetic parts, or even completely converted into robots, retaining only their brain (the main character, Motoko Kusanagi, is all robotic except for her spinal cord and parts of her brain). Because of this, the meaning of a human soul is even more skewered than before, now called a "ghost" for ethical reasons and just being politically correct. If necessary, the person can still look just like a normal human being - the only thing distinguishing them from a regular human is their weight (aside from tearing them apart and peeking at their insides). What's ironic, though, is that the highly-trained technicians building and maintaining these robots are mostly sexy nurses in very... "revealing" outfits. This may be Shirow's style after all, but I find it really funny in the end XD Since the world is still far from perfect, there is still law enforcement and military forces around to keep the civil from the uncivil. This is where Section Nine of Shinhama's Public Security comes in - the highly secretive and covert team which most of the characters are employed and involved with. They deal with the usual terrorists and cybercriminals (hackers and such), but when they start to get on the track of the Puppeteer (one of the worlds' most notorious hackers), things start to really get dicey, and not just with the people inside the book. You'll really get a thorough mind-bending when you're done with this (I'm wondering how many times Shirow had to re-write the ending because of how deep it really is). Which is where I come to it's only bad part: the orderlyness. Shirow throws out these new plotlines and story figures at whim, confusing the reader to no end. Let's not even forget the explanations to everything, especially at the very end. I HIGHLY recommend reading this a few times to get the gist of everything - you are DEFINITLY going to need it. But that is only a minor scratch to the finely crafted diamond that is the final product. I would recommend this manga to any person who even has a REMOTE interest in science fiction, and even if they haven't read or watched anything from Japan. I wouldn't be suprised if this would become required reading for a highly-esteemed University class. ... Read more | |

She finds out that she was chosen to be part of the "Mew Project", along with four other girls-Mint, Lettuce, Pudding, and Zakuro. (Pudding and Zakuro will be introduced in volume 2) I find this manga to be quite sweet, and cute. If you like cute and sweet shoujos, then you should definitely give "Tokyo Mew Mew" a look!
The story is about a 12 year old girl named Ichigo who is at the museum with her crush, Masaya. Suddenly, her DNA is merged with the DNA of a wildcat. Four other girls have also had their DNA merged too. She is suddenly an acrobat, loves fish and is very sleepy. On the next day she is attacked by a huge rat and a guy saves her. His name is Ryou and he says she(Ichigo) has to beat the monster. He pushes her out of the tree and Ichigo suddenly grows cat ears and a tail and is wearing a pink battlesuit. She also has pink eyes and hair. After she defeats the monster, Ryou explains that she is a superhero and has to fight aliens who are using animals to attack humans. Ichigo then is set off to find her partners and form Tokyo Mew Mew. If you love magical girls and love catgirls, this book is for you.
Its about a young girl who is out on a date with her boy friend and she gets turned into a super hero with the genes of a cat. She has four other partners like her and they are trying to save the world from evil alians who are trying to pollute the world. By finding Mew Aquas the mews mews may be able to purify the world from the evil alians. But it is harder than the Mew mews may think...

This is a wonderful series, but it is not for boys or those that like violence, gore, and karate-style action. It is for fans of shows like Sailor Moon.

It begins with the manga version that was eventually turned into the S movie. It has more detail and less action scenes than the movie did, which I think is better. It concentrates a lot more on the Luna/Kakeru aspect than the fact that Princess Kaguya (what Kakeru named the enemy) is trying to freeze Earth. The two aspects of it fit together nicely though. The only problem I had with it was that they were having a birthday party for Makoko (Lita) and Mina, whose birthdays are over a month apart. The other part is a backstory about Rei. This is what got me immediately hooked to this manga and made me read it again and again. It happens before they meet Minako (meaning I guess they didn't meet her till after April). It has Usagi (Bunny) and Ami meeting Rei as she gets a birthday gift from a guy who has a crush on her. They get her a popular music box and find out she has a dinner with her father. It turns out that Rei's mother died, and because her father was in politics, she decided to move in with her grandfather. Rei and her father's assisstant (and possible successor) are supposedly "kindred spirits". I don't want to give away the ending, but just know that it is BEAUTIFUL and you will want to read it over and over again. Its a nice backstory on Rei, and I, who had prefered anime Rei over her manga counterpart, had a great deal more respect for her. I hope you'll take a look at this manga and consider buying it, it's definitely worth the money.

Raenef's unexpected trip places him in no small amount of danger and he ends up gaining yet another "pet" to add to his "zoo" much to Eclipse's chagrin. We also get a flashback detailing how Eclipse met Raenef, which is a cute story and looks to be continued in the third volume. So what's not to like? The artwork is nice although Raenef could look stand to look less like a girl, and frankly there is plenty of humor here at work, both visually and storywise. The potential plot seems filled with lots of excellant possibilities as newcomer Raenef continues to adjust to his power and status while trying to maintaining his kind heart. Eclipse's frustrations are doubtless going to be legion and provide plenty of humor as well. The fact there are demons, gods, clerics and fate involved should only add spice to the mix. I enjoyed this volume and am looking forward to seeing the story pick up some momentum in volume 3.
Pros: This volume was very entertaining. We start really seeing the profound effect Raenef is having on Eclipse, rather than the other way around. The introduction into the new characters, the knight and the cleric, was smooth. They didn't appear out of nowhere, and the novel didn't stray away from the main storyline to delve completely into their paths. I'm sure future volumes will explain their history, though. The art is top-notch, too. ^^ The artist never skimps on the beauty that drew me into DD. Cons: Now, I'll be honest. The main problem I had with this volume was the very visible editing errors. I'm not sure if their graphic designer got lazy, but I noticed several kerning inconsistencies, obvious text alignment mistakes, bad cleaning of tones where they slip in text over a background, etc. A lot of people won't really notice this, but I was disappointed that they seemed to rush their editing of this volume. Overall, if you enjoyed the first volume, you'll love this one. ^_^ Eclipse and Raenef fans will not be disappointed. Shounen ai fans will gush. Go! Run out and buy it today. I almost gave this a '4', but the editing problems aren't as bad as several other TokyoPop volumes. Demon Diary gets a 5 for the great read. =)

After publishing all of Cardcaptor Sakura mangas, they have decided to release the first 6 mangas that were flopped left-to-right back into the traditional right-to-left! This is the first boxset of Cardcaptor Sakura containing the first 3 mangas/graphic novels. Included as a bonus are bookmarks that portrayed the characters on clowcards! If you do the the math, of $15 cdn multiplied by 3 it equals to $$$ cdn and this does not include the bookmarks nor the traditional left-right format! Tokyopop is definitely improving the quality of their graphic novels to look similar to the Japanese mangas. Similar to the Wish graphic novels they released, the first and last page of these graphic novel has a double-sided colour page on thick semi-gloss paper. While the rest is the good quality recycled newspaper. This is great because we get to see COLOUR aside from the front cover. =P For all you hard-core otakus out there (including myself), they have re-written these graphic novels. Going by their original Japanese names and sticking with their culture of respecting others. At the end of each name, Japanese would address a person by Name-san or Name-chan. Very cute as Sakura-chan refers to Tomoyo (aka Madison from CC dubbed) as Tomoyo-chan. ^_^ The graphic novels are enclosed in a box/book-shelf. Unlike the Magic Knight Rayearth Boxset, Tokyopop has invested a lot more quality into the box/book-shelf. I was surprise to find it very sturdy and glossy! ^v^ This will definitely keep these graphic novels safe away from danger. =P A great buy that you will not regret! This series is very a cute-addicticting series that will not leave you disappointed. If you enjoy cute costume outfits by the talented Tomoyo-chan, and an easy to get hook on story, you'll be obsess with this adorable manga like the rest of shoujo and cosplayers everywhere. =^-^= ... Book Description Reviews (16)
Even with the over-the-top character designs, superpowers, and elements of magic, Luffy and his friends are all enjoyable and sympathetic, with well-balanced flaws and strengths. Luffy seems too stupid to captain a ship, but occasionally has moments of brilliance that make you wonder if he's secretly a genius. Zoro, the gruff woman-hating swordsman, softens when faced with a little girl who did something special just for him. Nami begins to care about Luffy and company, despite her insistance that she will never be a pirate. Usopp is a coward, but comes through when those he cares about are in danger. Despite his suave exterior, Sanji goes gaga when a pretty woman pays him the slightest attention. Chopper begins to see that there are humans out there worthy of his trust. The dynamics between the whole group, once they are assembled, is incredibly fun and full of chemistry. On the most basic level, you could call it a pirate comedy, but it is so much more than that. Sure, it is full of funny jokes and silly sight gags, but there is something very serious behind all that. "One Piece" is about chasing your dreams, and doing so with a group of loyal nakama ("companions") at your side. Luffy's crew are more than friends; they are family, bound together by affection and hardship. They trust their lives to one another, and learn each other's limits. Along the way, they confront their pasts and look to the future, and set out to make their individual dreams into reality.
Maybe some of you have heard of it. It is probably the most famous ANIME and MANGA among teens in Japan now adays, and its name is One Piece. This Manga done by Eiichiro Oda and is Dragon Ball Z meets Alice in Wonderland meets the X-Men once upon a time, somewhere over the rain-bow, and it's anything but Kanas. What I mean to say is, it is so strangly original in the artistic sense that you can't help but keep turning page after page. Sure enough, the story is the same old duke it out in Street Fighter/Goku with a bad hair day/Ultimate kung-fu style, but it is told in a quirky and often offbeat way. Sometimes you have to keep puting the book down to dry your eyes from all the tears of laughter. However, sometimes the humor is dark, and other times just too bizarre, but I will say that it is one of the most entertaining and consecutively enjoyable Manga series I have ever read. I bought the entire 32 collected issues last week, and will continue to buy the ongoing. Oda's art is anything but traditional. His characters don't look anime but have a mix between Tim Burton sketches and Alice and Wonderland drawings. They're is this morbid yet wonderful energy in the art that dazzles you with the strangeness of its own design, that you can't help but fall in love with it. Originally I avoided one piece at all costs. Just like a Pokemon plague, I was refusing to get sucked into the consumer market just because it is some popular trend. But I caved in, and now I am peniless and in love. Extremely dynamic and action packed, constantly laugh out loud funny, with odd situations, strange occurances, and even stranger characters that would give Lewis Carol a run for his originallity... enter the bizarre world of One Piece. Now if you don't mind me, I'm going to go watch One Piece anime on TV and read my One Piece manga at the same time, and polish my One Piece DVD's.
