5-0 out of 5 stars THE Book on Mixing
"Mixing Engineer's Handbook" teaches what the engineer greats of various genres do to get great mixes. It has really helped me understand different approaches to mixing, as well as taught quite a few nice tips and tricks. I learned a lot from it, even though I have been recording and mixing professionally for over 10 years. In my bookshelf there are a LOT of books abour recording and mixing, and this one clearly stands out as the best. Another good book I'd like to recommend is "Professional Microphone Techniques", which also features a a nice chapter on EQing. The interviews have also been a great help when making purchase decisions for new studio gear.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book. My copy is worn out .
It is worth buying just for those two or three magic tricks you may have been missing from your mix. But its also a fun read, full of interviews that give you a broad spectrum of opinions and war stories from some of the industry's best. Good nerdy discussions/debates on things like modern compression techniques. This book can really fill in the gaps for you and get you caught up with the big boys at the mixing console.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
It hit the spot. Exactly what i was looking for.

5-0 out of 5 stars After going back through the book, changed to 5 stars!
Upon deeper inspection of the contents of this book, I had to change my review. I am finding this book absolutely phenomenal.
I thought at first that there were too many interviews (nearly half the book) and not enough real tips and guidelines. I was wrong. The first half of the book gives some good starting points and tips (EQ settings, Compression ratios/settings, mixing in effects etc...) What I have found to be almost more valuable are the interviews. They are full of tips and "here's how I achieve this sound" type of comments.

This is only my second day I've really been digging in to this book and applying it to my work. I've already seen drastic improvements. I wish I had found this book when it first came out! This is cetainly not the end all solution to every recording question you may have, but I have found this book to be worth every cent I spent on it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Getting Golden Ears
This book is really about the things that top mix engineers say they pay attention to most in mixing. It gives the reader insight into the ideas that have moulded their thinking, and listening skills. Equipment lists are supplied, but there is not a lot of discussion about how to set up the gear in detail. This is a good thing, because a book can not deliver the kind of understanding that listening to recordings can give. You can easily get the CDs that are discussed to hear what each mix engineer is talking about. There is more than enough information to duplicate some of the best mixes ever made if you want to.

If you are constantly searching the net, or magazines for mix trix, and you want the best collection of these tricks available, stuff people hang out in studios for months, or years to acquire, then this book is for you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything I hoped it would be
I've been an Autocad user for 9 years going back to version 12. I've used every version since. Let me state right off the bat, whether you're a beginner or a very experienced cad user, BUY THIS BOOK. This book will give you a solid foundation for every area of Autocad. The book is structured from beginner to expert and includes 4 appendixes.

For the beginner (I read the beginner chaps just for fun and to see what's new in 2004) excellent walk-thru exercises with great pictures and easy to understand instructions should have you drawing in no time as well as building your confidence with each chapter.

For the more experienced user who wants to delve in to the 3d features and customization capabilities of Autocad (ex. database integration, VBA, Lisp, Web dev, sys vars, etc.), excellent coverage including walk-thru's of these areas will provide you with the solid foundation to do whatever you want. I was particularly impressed with the coverage of the 3d environment as Omura devotes 4 chapters to this topic with each one being a must read.

The inclusion of good screen shots throughout the book allows you to read and understand while away from the computer.

Very satisfied with the purchase of this book!!

    5-0 out of 5 stars Omura's Books
I love Omura's books about AutoCAD.I have all the versions from AutoCAD13 to AutoCAD2004, it is wonderful, easy to read to Understood to deal with, since I am an architeact& a lecturer in University, I this book very helpful in my work& teching.
    Thank you

5-0 out of 5 stars One page is worth the price of the book
Page 963 alone is worth the price of the book if you are an advanced user. I learned how to set up all my blocks into a custom tool palette. Tool palettes are a new feature in 2004.
I started at chapter one, and learned about features I have overlooked although I've been using AutoCAD since version 10.
I can't praise Mr Omura enough, he even gives his e:mail address and invites suggestions for improvements. There isn't a better book on the market for new users of AutoCAD, or experienced users either. The writing style and exercises are so easy to follow. ... Read more

    Book Description

Discover the "whys" and "hows" of creating a complete set of professional-quality construction documents using features and functions contained in the newest release of Autodesk Architectural Desktop (ADT)! Written by a professional Autodesk Training Center (ATC) manager and successful national ADT applications engineer, Mastering Autodesk Architectural Desktop 3 focuses squarely on the rationale and practicality of the ADT process. Unlike other books that confront novices with a never-ending stream of seemingly discrete and unrelated commands, this book propels its readers to new skills using detailed examples and exercises that showcase the "why" as well as the "how" of using Autodesk Architectural Desktop to complete residential and commercial building design projects. The book begins by acquainting readers with the user interface and familiarizing them with the conceptual underpinnings of Autodesk Architectural Desktop software operations. Subsequent chapters enable readers to delve directly into the process of using their software to set up residential and commercial building projects, produce sections and elevations, generate schedules, design layouts, work with details, plot construction documents, and more! As a result, readers gain a first-hand understanding of the value of Autodesk Architectural Desktop as a professional design tool as well as practical knowledge of what can be and what ought to be modified. Prior experience using AutoCAD is assumed. However, no prior experience with Autodesk Architectural Desktop is required making this book perfect for today's professional architects, interior designers, facilities planners, and students. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
Great book essential for getting started! (The autodesk book "Gettign Started" certainly doesn't. Nor does the online training included with ADT.) Very thoughtfully laid out and really gets you into the "guts" of the product in short order. CD included has a great setup for doing residential and commercial work...you can use it to set up your shop. Any corrections or clarifications in the book or on the CD are on paulaubin.com. As software is a work in progress, so are these books on the software, and the site includes some important clarifications that have come out since the release of 3.3. If you need to know ADT, buy this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book....
I've had a bit of experience having started with Cadence and then moved on to Autocad, Softdesk and eventually ADT. However I've had very little formal training (one time at Autodesk University). For that level of experience the book is excellent... no idea how it would be for people just starting out or unfamiliar with ADT.

I'm about 3/4 fo the way through the book and while much of it is a review there are great portions that have filled in gaps and eased the transition to the new management system.

For people in circumstances similar to my own I'd highly recommend this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mastering Autodesk Architectural Desktop
A good book over all but lacks the finer points for using the program. I would recommend the book for someone who has not had much experience using AutoCAD.

2-0 out of 5 stars Try to figure out how to create i.e. Schedules
Good book, but it could be better. You have to think the deepest tough to figure out where is the beginning and or the end of many procedures. Try to figure out the best way to approach the creation on a Door Schedule in 2d, for example.Good luck

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid this book-Written By Master for Master
The reason I got this book was the price and some of the good review by buyers. Unfortunitely I didn't take the words of the buyer who gave this book a rating of 1. This book really is confusing. Let me warn you this book is not for beginners or even expert current AutoCAD 2002 users like me. This is more suited for current ADT user upgrading to v3.3. The way the book layout is hard to understand. It start off with the MOST confusing part of CAD,Display. The instructions make you go in circles and by the time you finish all the steps you forget how to do it. Following the instructions are somewhat difficult for a experience 2002 user due to lack of pictures so forget about it being a beginners. I'm sure the people who crafted this book put alot of time on it but it's not a very good layout book. Sorry about the 1 star rating but this is the highest I can give. It's a sure return. ... I use ACAD 200 daily. My copy of this book is quite dog eared and probably needs to be replaced. I am almost constantly thinking of ways that I could get my ACAD 2000 program to work better with me. This book is extremely helpful for me to do that. I have found this book to be laid out well and has a VERY extensive index so that I can find out how to do what I want to do. I recommend very strongly that anyone that uses ACAD 2000 on a regular basis to have this book in their library and within reach.

This book provides the last word on feature-by-feature comparisons of AutoCAD and MicroStation from the user's perspective. Each chapter presents a quick summary of a specific feature in AutoCAD, followed by the related feature in MicroStation. The AutoCAD software users will find the book to be a great asset in transitioning from the AutoCAD environment to the MicroStation design environment. Conversely, the book is equally valuable for the MicroStation product user who needs to make the transition to AutoCAD. Thorough coverage of translating drawings between AutoCAD and MicroStation provides vital information for users working with both platforms. For the user who works with both products and for the user who wants to know more about the "other" software package, this is the book for you. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars It is a good starting point but not for advanced features
First off this book is based on AutoCAD 14 and Microstation J. That information should be much more up front than it currently is. Since I am familiar with AutoCAD 2000 sometimes the book seems out of date. (well it is, acutally)

Secondly, Frank Conforti who writes the Microstation portions of the book, frequently says, "this is easy in Microstation." I get tired of not only the bias but also the oversimplification of the operations.

Thirdly, a great deal of the book covers the company histories of Autodesk and Bentley. The writers expressed the value of this to help understand the different philosophies behind the two packages. While I found it interesting, it didn't help me one whit to make me a better user of either program.

Fourth, the book deals primarily with the similarities of the two programs. While this is good for a beginner, it leaves unexplained the true power of each system because most tasks can be accomplished in several different ways. The book usually explains the way that is most similar in each program rather than the most efficient way to get something done in each program. The book doesn't cover the tremendous rendering capabilities of Microstation at all, since this is not something that AutoCAD does.

Since I think this is a book that would be most helpful to people who are just making the switch (not me who switched four months ago, 90% of what I would consider useful information I've learned on my own or from my fellow workers), it ought to have a chapter about first timers pitfalls.

One specific first-timer pitfall is the behaviour of the right mouse button. In AutoCAD the right mouse button is equivalent to hitting enter. It completes every command and restarts the command. In Microstation it is completely opposite; it behaves like AutoCAD's esc key. So the experienced AutoCAD user practically without thinking hits the right mouse button to complete a command, but he will discover to his dismay that nothing happens because he just cancelled the command. This just takes some getting used to.

Another thing that everyone tells the new user is there are keyin commands like AutoCAD's command line. Well, hardly. With AutoCAD to create a line all one had to do was type "l" and hit enter. To get microstation to do the same command from its key-in window, first you have to click with the mouse in the key-in window they type "place line" which can be abbreviated to "pl l". This is much more work than simply clicking the line tool from the toolbar.

It has two particularly useful chapters that each take a fairly simple project and go step-by-step through the process of creating the project using each CAD package.

It also has an excellent chapter on translating from one to the other. It points out the pitfalls and incompatibilities as well as explaining when you should and shouldn't translate.

If I've sounded critical its because I was really wanting a book that teaches more advanced features of Microstation. This isn't it.

If you want a nice history of computer aided design, this is a good book. Or if it is your first time using Mircostation this would be pretty handy (though it needs the chapter I described above)

2-0 out of 5 stars MicroStation for AutoCAD users by Conforti
This book is mostly inadequate for first time users trying to learn MicroStation. Explanations are too perfunctory, and in many cases lacking key information on how to make a specific command work; opting instead to tell you what the command does (if you are lucky enough to eventually figure out how to make it work). Considering the $60 price tag I had to spend for this book, it was a total waste of money.

3-0 out of 5 stars Could have been better
As a beginner to Microstation I had a time with the first example. I'll admit I am biased towards Autocad as that is what I've used for ten years.

I was hoping for a book that shows how to do each Autocad command in Microstation. This book does not do this very completely. The index of the book does not list all of the command sets of either program, so you are not getting a lot of coverage on most topics. Trying to find answers to everyday problems is not possible for the most part with this book.

My suggestion to anyone who truly wants to learn the other program whether it be Microstation or AutoCad is get a good book on either subject. The most accomplished Microstation user I know swears by Frank Conforti's books on Microstation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Job Enhancment capabilities.
I have used AutoCAD for about 10 years, of course I am biased. Using this new publication provides a very easy and comfortable way of crossing back and forth between the 2 programs. it is obvious that a lot of working knowledge of each program has gone into this text. I have ENHANCED my job proficiency as a mechanical designer being able to say I possess a productive capability using either CAD program. I am better with AutoCAD but Microstation is coming up fast.

I am 50 years old and I truly respect what computers can do if you allow yourself to learn without fighting. This text provides that medium allowing anyone to become proficient with AutoCAD or Microstation, I am no longer biased towards either program. Excellent publication.

5-0 out of 5 stars The perfect guide for the "bi-directional" tendencies in you
The is a must-have book for those of us not well versed in both AutoCad and Microstation. It is expecially valuable if you are proficient in one system, and have had some training but not much experience with the other. No matter which way you are approaching from, you are able to understand the instructions by using whichever you are most proficient in. What more can you ask? Simple instructions & good illustrations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great way to learn
I bought this book with little 3D experience, hoping it would help guide me. I work in a small company and I am the only CAD user, so there isn't any help in the next office. This book taught me how to use 3D drawings to produce prints in probably a third of the time it used to by drawing all three views. Plus, in our shop, isometric views are almost a must to understand many prints, which has reduced our production time greatly. I am fairly well versed now in 3D, but I still reference the book almost weekly.

I recommend this book to anyone who doesn't have time for courses and understands 2D construction.

I have read various book of autocad, but they all seem very complicated and dificuolt to understand. I found this bible and let me tell you that is the best book I have ever seem. I recomended to a friend of mine who wants to learn autocad. This book will challenge you as a beguiner, intermedite or advance user. It has lots of examples and this author know what she is talking about. Believe me this one of the best if not the best autocad book I have seem in the market in my 10 years of autocard experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yea - it's worth it
I have hundreds of books and manuals on various techie subjects and Ellen's AutoCAD 2004 Bible ranks high on my list for books worth the purchase. I have used AutoCAD for years but after moving up to Acad 2005 from Acad 2000 I thought I could use some tutoring. The book didn't disappoint. For nearly every topic there is a step by step, hands-on, example that the reader can perform. There are around 160 drawing files on the accompanying CD; one for each example in the book. You can open that file in Acad and follow the steps in the book and experiment to your heart's content.

All in all, this book won't disappont you like some I could mention.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent AutoCAD Book - Something for everyone.
I have had R14, 2000 AutoCAD Bibles on my shelf for many years now. I picked the 2004 Bible to use as a textbook in an advanced AutoCAD class that I teach 6 or so times a year.

I was very pleased with how well it meshed with the way I have always taught this class (13 years last month.) Plus it is a nice "value added" item that the students can take back to work. My first class was very pleased about getting to use the 2004 Bible while in class and also about having a reference to study after the class.

It was funny because I started saying "take your Bibles and turn to page ..." it was like we were in church! I can not say enough good about Ellen's writing style, her use of graphics throughout the book and her expertise! It is all there in the Bible.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 star book
I use this book for years (starting from 2000)
I think the book is MOST helpfull and very simple to use.
You can find answers to most questions in this book.
It is well organized, and electronic version of it is most helpfull. Good reading. I will use the next "AutoCAD Bible"
    for sure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Step by Step How to Book

5-0 out of 5 stars AutoCAD 2000 Bible
Having purchased AutoCAD for Dummies 2000, and AutoCAD for Architecture 14, this book makes you roll up your sleeves and start working productively from the second chapter. It's written for both the beginner and intermediate AutoCAD user. The CD has various small excercises to complete and provides the user with a wealth of time-saving steps. For anyone using AutoCAD 2000, whether you are a student or professional, this book is excellent. It has saved me literally hours of frustration. The book addresses both architectural and mechanical/electrical diciplines. The plotting chapter is exhaustive, and anyone using AutoCAD knows how important the proper procedures are for final output. Highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This is a great Reference book. It is verry straight forward. Verry indepth. The chapters on 3d modeling are extremly helpful.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for Beginners
I have used this book to teach a basic Cad class. It is helpful for use of reference only, but for a beginner, it can be overwhelming

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This is a very good book, I am exceptionally pleased about this purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars AutoCAD 2000 Bible
Very useful organization on 3 levels. There is a nariative to explain the general topic followed by some screen shots or description of the options. The third level is a step by step use. This worked well for me since I look for info on a topic rather than read a whole chapter. I also look for a good index to find what I need and this book had a complete index. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but written for Architects & I'm not..
This is a good book but it is written for architects. I'm a mechanical engineer. Also, it basically has only one project that you progress through from beginning to end of book. I took a que from a previous reviewer and checked out "shrockpublishing.com" and their books worked better for me. (Exercise workbook for Beg. AutoCAD) Easy to follow, 30 separate lessons, includes many exercises and for all disciplines not just architecture. Plus I emailed the author with questions and she answered me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simplifies AUTOCAD 2000 for you!
This book is excellent for architects who want to learn Autocad 2000, and do not have prior experience, as it says. Even with experience it shows different and more efficient ways of drawing architectural drawings in AutoCAD, especially if one is mostly self taught; it shows a variety of commands and their functions through one example that is developed in detail through the book. Even basic things like how to draw a wall and elevations can seem daunting but the instructions go through all that very well. The book could have benefited with more bullet points and less verbiage and more examples. However, the book is very instructive and walks one through the steps very well.

4-0 out of 5 stars get the book
Iv'e had the book for two days now and am on page 243,. Very easy to use (almost too good of a job explaining)
This book IS for begginers ,as the title says but i went from scatching my head to doing my own projects in a day

3-0 out of 5 stars Need a disk for practicing
I am a new user and is the first time to explore autocad .I bought autocad 2000 of David Frey, but without the disk I can not use it. I need help, I am appreciated for those who would help me how to get a disk to apply this book.
    Again, thank you very much

5-0 out of 5 stars Autocad Step by Step forEveryone
Autocad can be a nightmare! This book makes it very easy to follow
each step, and the author explains every step with a diagram so
you will have no problem understanding it. It's a fantastic
book for everyone who wants to learn Autocad 2000 and doesn't want

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the CAD beginner
Having had no experience with CAD, I was looking for a book that would begin at the beginning. This book is it. You'll start by drawing 4 straight lines that will become the outside walls of a small cabin. Then in each chapter, you will slowly add interior walls, doors, cabinets, etc... You'll learn the CAD commands one at a time as you complete the cabin plans. Well written and easily understood, this book is just what I was looking for.

5-0 out of 5 stars No Experience Required - REALLY!
AutoCAD is a huge, complex program that does more things than you can imagine. No one person would ever use all of it. Cad has a very steep learning curve. But this book simplifles it very well. It takes everything step by step. I have used two other Cad programs and was able to skip the very basics and go to the nuts and bolts. But if you have nothing more than a desire to learn AutoCAD this book is understandable and easy to follow. You will be drawing things within the hour. Highly recommended. ... Read more

    Book Description

Utilizing a variety of hands-on lessons, this book introduces students to the basics of Pro/Engineer® Wildfire, one of the most widely used CAD/CAM software programs in the world. The author's basic premise is that the more parts, assemblies, and drawings one creates using Pro/E® Wildfire, the better one learns the software. With this in mind, each lesson introduces a new set of commands with an incrementally more difficult set of parts while building on previous lessons. The parts created (in Part One of the book) are used to create assemblies (Part Two) and generate drawings (Part Three). Students are able to work with actual completed parts, assemblies, and drawings in a short-lesson format, instead of building large complex projects where basic commands may be overshadowed and lost in a complicated process. Rather than attempting to cover all of Pro/E Wildfire's features, this book provides an introduction to the software, makes one reasonably proficient in its use, and establishes a firm basis for exploring and growing with the program beyond the classroom. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Pro/E Wildfire (with CD-ROM Pro/E Wildfire Software)
Title correction: Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire, by Louis Gary Lamit, is supposed to be titled:

    Pro/Engineer® Wildfire™ (with CD-ROM containing Pro/E Wildfire Software.

Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire Tryout Edition (see cad-resources.c for sample page and lesson downloads) comes with the textbook and is good for 60-120 days.

A boxed-set version that includes the text, the Tryout Edition, and the Student Edition (no time stamp) is available from Journey Ed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most comprehensive Pro/E Wildfire book; worth every penny!
Concise and well presented with a strong approach on appropriate parametric modeling techniques that are not usually covered in other books. This is with out a doubt the best-written introduction book on Pro/E I have ever seen. It is also quite good as an upgrade book. Lamits propensity for writing textbooks throughout the years truly comes out in this new version. I could not ask for a better manual to instruct my students with. Not only does it cover parametric modeling with a step-by-step approach were one learned technique builds on another, but it also covers assembles and detailing as well. It comprehensively covers the new WildFire interface and includes a free CD with a 60 to 120 day Tryout Edition that contains Pro/ENGINEER and Pro/MECHANICA. What a deal...If you find a better book I will eat this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars new version is easy to use and teach with
The text has been completed reformatted to one column, with linear steps and boxed commands. I used the previous four versions and this is the easiest to follow- learn from and teach with. Provides comprehensive coverage of Pro/E part, assembly, and detail modules. Includes the complete Pro/ENGINEER Tryout Edition for free. Tryout Edition is an educational version of the Pro/E software and comes with Pro/MECHANICA, Animation and Mechanism Modules.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire software comes with text!!!!!
Very comprhensive text on Wildfire. Pro/E Wildfire Tryout Version which is good for 60-120 days came with the text and lets me do all lessons from home.
