5-0 out of 5 stars Buy This Book!! Your Kids Will Thank You Over and Over!!!
This book appeals to me on several levels: I teach elementary school students (computers), I like to collect cookbooks, and I love Mac & Cheese. It's hard to classify this book so I will just use one word: Fun! The initial section of the book called the Easy Recipe Finder is one of the clearest and most extensive that I have ever seen, but the kids will understand it too as it is done with graphics. Also of interest on pages 6 and 7 is a comparison of the eleven ways to cook Mac & Cheese in which level of difficulty, time, taste, texture, calories and tasting notes are listed. There are two additional 'Comparison' sections that discuss a wide variety of cheeses and how to use them, and a section labeled, 'What Goes On Top'.
The recipes? Creative, versatile and wonderfully illustrated. I mentioned the recipe for Mac & Cheese pizza on a usergroup and a nice lady from Virginia emailed me asking for the recipe since she couldn't afford the book, but thought that her two grandchildren would like it. I sent it to her and she replied that she was sure that it was going to be a hit!
My favorites? Too early to decide, but the Stuffed Baked Potatoes (did I say that I love potatoes too?) and the Baked Rigatoni are definitely 'keepers'. I haven't tried the pizza yet, but I think I'll wait to serve that to guests.
This is however, a children's book! It is replete with illustrations that will appeal to the kids. It also includes a picture of every recipe. This is a wonderful opportunity to involve children in making decisions and menu planning. Cooking is a tremendously powerful teaching/learning experience for young children and this book is a treasure trove of culinary delights. I showed it to our school librarian and she is going to purchase it for the cooking section. She is also buying a copy for her mother and for herself, as her kids like Mac & Cheese too!
If this review hasn't convinced you, you can get more information at maccheese.com. You can order shirts and hats etc. The authors and the publisher seem assured that this book is a hit...I wholeheartedly agree!

5-0 out of 5 stars Full-color illustrations & easy-to-follow instructions
The Collaborative effort of Deanna Keahey and Steve Kilner, More, Please! Macaroni & Cheese presents 111 delicious dishes suitable for the whole family. An easy-to-follow chart at the beginning enables the browser to determine at a glance which recipes are vegetarian, which can be prepared with boxed macaroni, which are good for leftovers, and more. Full-color illustrations, easy-to-follow instructions, and a smattering of humorous cartoons distinguish this first-rate cookbook for macaroni and cheese lovers everywhere. If your family members are Mac & Cheese fans, then More, Please! Macaroni & Cheese is the perfect addition to your kitchen cookbook collection!

4-0 out of 5 stars Love the book...fun, easy and entertaining!!!!
My nieces and nephews love mac & cheese, so I bought the book to surprise them with some new recipes. So far I've made 5 recipes and each one has been delicious. Now they argue over which mac and cheese I should make. They all have a different favorite. I'll probably surprise them by trying a new recipe each time they come over. The book is not only full of great recipes, it is charming to read. I especially appreciate the witty quotes and wonderful cartoons.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for parents, environmentally conscious, food lovers
Everyone with kids should have this book! I've only had my copy a month and already we've discovered many new family 'classics' and kid favorites. What I especially love about the book is that it really runs the gamut, from 'quick hits' to add to boxed mac & cheese for those times you have no time, to gourmet mac and cheese dishes like 4 cheese mac & cheese (with asiago, gouda, white cheddar & pecorino romano) and mac and cheese jam tarts (yes, believe it -- they are great). I also like that the book offers a lot of alternatives to boxed mac & cheese, and so will appeal to people concerned for our planet who want to reduce their reliance on over-packaged foods. High quality production and lots of laughs along the way. You'll reach for this book again and again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Problems Solved!
This wonderful book caught my eye as I was shopping for a gift for my niece who is going off to college. I was initially attracted by the great charts and graphics but the recipes are tasty too. I have since bought several more copies to give as gifts. Although the book is perfect for young adults starting off on their own, because it takes a familiar food and provides endless variations on it, I have found myself reaching for it more than once when I need a dinner idea which will appeal to my teenage children. A great find. ... Read more

Book Description

In a world where everyone seems to be trying to eat more healthfully and seasonally, nothing makes more sense for dinner than pasta with vegetables. In Four Seasons Pasta, best-selling author Janet Fletcher follows the harvest to create more than 50 seasonal recipes for this wholesome combination.Inspired by the southern Italian pasta repertoire, Fletcher has unearthed many little-known gems--authentic, unfussy regional recipes that even novice cooks can make. From a spring fava bean stew with fusilli to summer's spaghetti alla Palermitana (with zucchini, tomatoes, anchovies and capers), peak-season produce paired with pasta makes a totally satisfying meal.Autumn brings radicchio to braise with pancetta and onions--a savory sauce for tagliatelle. Even winter provides produce for the pasta kitchen: beans for hearty bean-and-pasta soups and kale for a winter pesto. With guidelines for choosing dried pasta, making fresh pasta from scratch, and equipping the pasta kitchen, Four Seasons Pasta offers readers a delicious and sensible way to eat for life. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for all kitchens
Janet Fletcher is one of America's best cooks and cookbook authors. I've been an avid fan of her recipes since her first pasta book and this book not only meets it in offering inventive and absolutely delicious recipes it might even surpass it. There's a recipe for everyone. Although Italians frown on wiping up any remaining pasta sauce with bread, you'll want to lick your plate clean when you finish one of these recipes. While not all of the ingredients are necessarily in your local supermarket, most are and the others are worth finding. And the author offers lots of helpful information about pasta. This book will make everyone a pasta and vegetable lover! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Pasta Cookbook
This is my bible for pasta recipes. Not one is bad. Most ingredients called for are found in large chain grocery stores or can easily be substituted without changing the quality of the dish. For example where flat-leaf parsley is called for, any parsley will do. Where scallops are called for, try chicken. You can't go wrong.

The best part of the book is for those who are patience impared. The chapter on 20 MINUTE pasta dishes will serve up quick and very delicious meals or side dishes.

How to Make Pasta Sauces is a small treasure. In fewer than 100 pages, it presents illustrated, step-by-step instructions for preparing pasta sauces with tomatoes, vegetables, seafood, meat, and cheese--basic recipes, tips, and information that all cooks can use.

Following an enlightening section of pasta basics (American dried pasta is just as good as the imported kind, the authors assert), the book offers "master" sauce formulas with interesting variations and related recipes. Bolognese Sauce, Quick Meat Sauce, Meatballs in Smooth Tomato Sauce, and Carbonara Sauce comprise a typically brief but to-the-point chapter. Readers will also want to make Escarole and White Bean Sauce and Portobello Mushroom Ragu, among other unusual recipe variations. Underlying techniques are explored and illustrated throughout (bearding mussels is one) and sensible tips abound (for example, use scissors to cut knife-resistant pancetta).

A true primer, the book is part of the Cook's Illustrated Library, a modest yet consistently authoritative series from the editors of Cook's Illustrated magazine. Like the magazine, the books are dedicated to presenting tried-and-perfected recipes and cooking techniques in a concise, approachable way. --Arthur Boehm ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome but I still have one complaint
This is a great cookbook and organized extremley well with awesome recipes. I was just disappointed because there are absolutely NO pictures of any of the recipes. For me, it is important to have pictures of completed dishes at least so I can visually prepare myself for making the dish.

If pictures aren't important to you, then this is the *best* Asian noodle book around (I have looked thru many others and this one covers it all!)

5-0 out of 5 stars A delicious introduction to Asian noodle cuisine!

5-0 out of 5 stars Gourmet--but easy!
This cookbook is easy to read and follow, but the nice thing is that the recipes all come out like they were difficult to prepare when actually they were not. Every recipe has a color photo and none take over 30 minutes to prepare. I have never had a cookbook where I liked so many of the recipes. This is a winner. I have ordered one for both of my daughters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some new twists on pasta
Cookbooks are my passion. Every now and then a particular book comes along that makes me want to try every recipe, and this was certainly the case with this book. The recipes include ingredients that are either already in your pantry or refrigerator. Best of all, should you lack an item, you don't have to visit a specialty store to find it. Every recipe I've served to my friends, has yielded the words all cooks long to hear, "...I love this, can I have the recipe?" Versatility, ease of preparation, and tasty results... what more could a cook want!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Pasta Cookbook ever!!

Book Description

Exploding the myth that Marco Polo discovered pasta in China and brought it back to Italy (a story invented by the editors of the Macaroni Journal, a newsletter of the National Macaroni Manufacturers Association in America), this volume shows that pasta has existed in various forms throughout Middle Eastern, Asian, and even North African culinary cultures long before its appearance in the West. Pasta is indeed the universal food. Who did invent pasta? The Chinese certainly cultivated wheat and mixed it with water to form shapes several centuries before pasta´s earliest mentions in Western cookbooks of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. This book chronicles the infancy of lasagne, vermicelli and other forms of dried and fresh pasta, and the impact of rolling pins, hand presses, and pasta-making machines in the industrial age. Serventi and Sabban then relate the history of stuffed pastas and sauces. Equally important is the story of "bing," the Chinese pasta with a rich history.Pasta: The Story of a Universal Food shows that this enormously popular foodstuff is not merely a form of nourishment but the result of a lengthy process of cultural construction and the culmination of a wide array of knowledge, skills, and techniques. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Exquisite cookbook with only one fault ...
First of all this book ain't cheap so I was rather disgusted that if you exclude the cover it contained not one single picture .... OK so it may be hard to take a picture of pasta sauce bubbling in a skillet but .....

Now for the good part ... recepies in this book are stupendous and many are quite unique with some equisite new flavours for pasta sauce that I think I've been making for over 30 years or so.

Although the book is titled 'while the pasta cooks' and its true that all the sauces are whipped together in a pan or wok the intriguing flavours presented by the authors usually will require some planning and a stop at your local supermarket ....

The flavours presented in many of these recepies are so unique, do not fall into the tempatation to either skip or subsitiute ingredients because the simplicity of the recepies makes them very very unique .... nuff said ...

Appart from my whining about the pictures this is one great cookbook ....

5-0 out of 5 stars The best pasta sauce recipes!
This book is awesome! It sits on my counter and I use it on a weekly basis. My friends have quit asking my for my pasta recipes as they assume it is all from this book - they are usually correct.

5-0 out of 5 stars short and simple recipes - the way they should be!
Recipes so short you can make them in the time it takes to cook a pot of pasta. And if they are that short how complicated can they be? These are easy recipes.

Great for when you get home, tired and hungry, and need to cook. Simple, interesting, tasty and best of all fast recipes that won't let you starve while you wait for dinner.

I can't believe this book is out of print! It is a great cookbook to have around, because the sauces are so quick to prepare. I've also found the recipes very forgiving, if you don't have exactly the same ingredients.

............of which I have already enjoyed several! DH and I have had this cookbook for a couple of years now and have made many delicious sauces: Tomatoes and White Wine/ Eggs with Pecorino and Black Pepper/ Scallops and Tomatoes/ Clams with Garlic and Parsley/ Salami, Mozzarella and Tomatoes/ Tomatoes and Bacon/ Chicken with Eggplant and Button Mushrooms/ and Bacon and Provolone. There are sections in the beginning that show readers how to make fresh pasta and that review the basics of sauce-making.
