Book Description

Continues the outstanding coverage of information in the field originally brought together by Temple C. Patton. Representing the expertise of international authorities in the pigment industry, it provides ready access to such topics as the physical and chemical meaning of color, the worldwide market for pigments, the properties and physical relationships of diverse pigments, and the major reasons for using certain types of pigments for particular products. In addition to the updated data in this 3 volume set, are new material on novel organic and inorganic pigments that were not even at the research stage when the 1973 version was published. Most chapters include a new and unique section concerning the effect of the pigment under discussion on human health and on the environment. In light of recent legislative standards, these dicussions have special significance. ... Read more

Book Description

Hardbound. Sheet forming is the most common process used in metal forming and is therefore constantly being adapted or modified to suit the needs of forming composite sheets. Due to the increasing availability of various types of fibre reinforced polymeric sheets, especially with thermoplastic matrices, the scope of use of such materials is rapidly expanding in the automobile, building, sports and other manufacturing industries beyond the traditional areas of aerospace and aircraft applications. This book contains twelve chapters and attempts to cover different aspects of sheet forming including both thermoplastic and thermosetting materials. In view of the expanded role of fibre reinforced composite sheets in the industry, the book also describes some non-traditional applications, processes and analytical techniques involving such materials.

The first chapter is a brief introduction to the principles of sheet metal forming. The next two chapters intro ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensable reference
This is a good starting point for the reader interested in rheology or polymer dynamics. Many definitions and concepts widely used in the field of rheology of complex fluids can be found in this work. One of the introductory chapters is dedicated to qualitatively explain the most counter intuitive phenomena found in polymeric liquids. The rest of the book is primarily devoted to describe a variety of models, frequently illustrated with experimental data. The models are provided in a self-contained fashion, facilitating their use nad understanding.
Vol. I is a detailed introduction to rheology, with plenty of exercises. Explains in a clear way a variety of concepts such as material functions, and many classical models. Contains useful tables and appendices.
Vol. II also has good appendices and tables. It goes in detail through several microscopic models of polymers, starting from the simplest ones. Chapters are of increasing difficulty, getting more and more technical through the book, a good idea is to work the problems and exercises in detail. After this process is likely that the reader will be able to understand many polymer rheology papers. ... Read more

Book Description

Pressure Swing Adsorption is the first book that provides a coherent and concise summary of the underlying science and technology of pressure swing adsorption (PSA) processes at a level understandable to the practising engineer.

PSA has achieved widespread commercial acceptance as the technology of choice for hydrogen purification, air separation and small scale air driers. However, PSA has numerous other actual and potential uses such as the recovery of methane from landfill gas, the production of carbon dioxide and other large scale applications.

Since the design and optimization of a PSA process requires a somewhat mathematical model, two chapters of the book provide in-depth information on equilibrium theory and dynamic numerical simulation. However, this mathematical material will also help the general reader develop an understanding of the principles and strenghts and limitations of various approaches.

PSA engineers, chemical engineers, environmental chemists, academicians and managers who must make informed decisions about purchasing costly PSA systems will find Pressure Swing Adsorption of particular value.

4-0 out of 5 stars Must be imaginative...
I agree that this book has serious problems with pictures and photos, because the drawings included are very poor so you cannot identify the difference between the different materials. But in my particular case, people in fiberglass materials stores understood what I was looking for (by the materials and fluids names) and at that moment theory and reality matched perfectly.
The amateur results that I was expecting (car speakers, small boxes) were achieved completely.

1-0 out of 5 stars Annoying
This will be short:

Have you ever seen one of those books that looks like it will have a lot of good info on how to do something, open the cover and realize that it's just a "this is nice stuff that you could do if you knew how, but I'm not going to tell you the details of how..." book? This is that book.

To add to that, it's outdated, and even though all the products introduced and shown were of one brand, they didn't even take a picture of them but instead someone drew a picture of the can sitting there... ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Overrated
As a praciticing process engineer my opinion is this book lacks insight. Typical text book written a professor in the academic community with no practical experience. This book spends far to much time deriving equations and not discussing the basics concepts. The author makes a half hearted attempt to relate the first 14 chapters to the real worl, in a short and inadequate Chapter 15. This is the first mail book order book i took the time to return. In all honesty this book is not worth the $90.00. Spend your money elsewhere

5-0 out of 5 stars The book provides an excellent overview of plasma processing
This book provides an excellent introduction and overview of plasma discharges applied to semiconductor manufacturing. It is well-organized, clearly-written and full of useful examples and exercises. And unlike many books on plasma physics, it is not overly-mathematical and contains many useful physical insights. I strongly recommend this book for anyone wanting to review the field of plasma processing.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent overview of common plasma processing devices
Lieberman covers many of the standard processing devices and much of the physics needed to model them effectively.

The presentation is clear and extremely useful both as a reference and as a tutorial. A must-have book for anyone interested in plasma processing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Theoretical Coverage of Plasma's, including ECR

Book Description

Catalyst production for the transformation of crudes into gasoline and other fuel products is a billion dollar/year business and fluid cracking catalysts (FCCs) represent almost half of the refinery catalyst market.
During the cracking reactions, the FCC surface is contaminated by metals (Ni, V, Fe, Cu, Na) and by coke deposition. As a result, the catalyst activity and product selectivity is reduced to unacceptable levels thus forcing refiners to replace part of the recirculating equilibrium FCC inventory with fresh FCC to compensate for losses in catalyst performance. About 1,100 tons/day of FCC are used worldwide in over 200 fluid cracking catalyst units (FCCUs).
It is for these reasons that refiners' interest in FCC research has remained high through the years almost independantly, of crude oil prices. However, recent oil company mergers and the dissolution of research laboratories, have drastically decreased the number of researcher

Book Description

This is the first book dedicated to the glass transition since this concept became recognized as a distinct and independent field of investigation. The glass transition is a synonym for relaxation and dynamics in complex disordered systems, especially in liquids. It embraces time-scales ranging from picoseconds to years. The book describes and interrelates the following processes: cooperative alpha processes in a cold liquid, structural relaxation in the glass near Tg, the Johari-Goldstein beta process, the Williams-Götze process in a warm liquid, fast nonactivated cage rattling and boson peak, and ultraslow Fischer modes. By describing the salient facts, explaining and discussing the fundamentals, the author attempts to introduce a unifying concept for the entire material. The formulas, diagrams and references are carefully selected to illustrate the main current ideas about the glass transition.

From the reviews:

"A welcome addition to the literature on a subject that is currently attracting a very heavy research interest... the author means the entire process of viscous slowdown and vitrification... he may well be the best-read author in this field. I found information that was new and interesting to me in nearly every section. There seems to be no element of the subject on which Donth has not read widely and deeply. [His] use of figures, backed up by appropriate text, can be an effective way of conveying a lot of information about (and insight into) the system behavior... This book is an excellent choice of reading material for someone newly entering the field, who wants to be made aware of its elements. It also provides much food for thought for the experts."
