5-0 out of 5 stars Read "a different" book before this one.
Otherwise it might be somehow confusing. This book is a must for professionals as another reviewer stated but it is not very suitable as the first book on UMTS technologies. This book serves best as supplementary reading. For example new-beginner readers might get confused talkink about SIP at the first chapter before explaining W-CDMA and core-network layout. Anyway, this book contains wealth of information on UMTS technologies and warmly recommended for serious readers.

3-0 out of 5 stars Informative but not lucid
Its a good book for starters and people getting to know the subject of wcdma and umts. But, the language is very bland and looks more of an ieee paper. Recommended for people who are indireclty associated with umts or similar products.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful compilation of standards, if you need them
If you like to read standards or have to in the course of your work, this book offers a useful and succinct compilation. Other than that, there is nothing to recommend this book as it does not help improve your understanding. Then again, this is not the kind of book which people who do not have to work with standards will want to read.

There is a short chapter on cdma2000 at the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not for newbies, must for pros
This book delivers exactly what it promises: a profound, compact and clear description of WCDMA for UMTS. The reader is expected to understand quite advanced concepts of mobile communications, hence it is not a good book for managers who want to know what 3G is all about nor for undergraduate students who want to learn cellular system basics. It is an excellent book for experienced network planners, protocol designers or research engineers, for example, who want to move from 2G to 3G. Simple test: if you don't know what are Erlang-B, orthogonal codes or layered protocol architecture, you want to study them first from another book.

2-0 out of 5 stars umts
With UMTS you must read what you can get - unfortunately what you can get is not aleays what you want - so with this book. Although the authors seem well informed, they are not god communicators - their explanations are alternatively trivial or incomprehensible, their diagrams, in most cases copied slavishly from the specifications, explain nothing. Perhaps this book is useful as a reference after the subject is comprehended. Comprehension does not lie here. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Content seemed great, but not explained in detail
When I first bought this book, I was very hopeful. The book seemed to cover a lot of relevant material, in a concise fashion. When I tried to read it however, I found it a little bit too much on the concise side. I have read very complicated books with a lot of math before, and I could follow them easier than this "easy" writing style. Almost every subject is covered in other books in more detail and better. Sometimes it's nice to have a simpler book which is an introduction, and that is what I was hoping for, but this just didn't do it for me.I donated the book to the library,as I felt I would never really get too much out of it. This didn't stop me from buying Mr. Razavi's "Design of Analog CMOS ICs " and I liked his tutorial in the IEEE Phase Lock Loop book he edited.I know he can do a better job.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to read
As a hardware design engineer, I am currently pursuing an 'economy' 900 MHz frequency hopped data modem design. I have limited experience with >200 MHz designs and found this book very useful in conveying techniques used at these higher freqs. Straight.. to the point discussions.. in which every sentence actually says something and instills insight. I esp found the sections on freq synthesis and oscillators to be informative. It's also a good reference to break out for descriptions of all the modulation techniques. However, I am still searching for that one text that performs in-depth analysis on the ever present / nebulous 'carrier recovery' and 'bit recovery' blocks.

4-0 out of 5 stars My impressions of RF Microelectronics by Behzad Razavi
I have read large sections of this book and have been pleasantly surprised by the care and attention to detail taken with the description of RF design concepts as well as the mathematics used to clarify the issues.

The mathematics in particular seems to be free from errors, used only when necessary and does not contain such large jumps that the reader has to spend much effort trying to follow. All in all it is one of the best texts I have ever come across in this field of engineering

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent RF circuit design book.
This book will help analog circuit designers who always wanted to learn what is going on the RF front. Most of the books on RF circuits are outdated and uses only discrete solutions. Author has done a wonderful job of providing a systematic approach to RF design. The key thing I like about this book is what to watch for in RF designs compared to conventional analog designs

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, the Bible is born...
A comphrehensive and easy-to-understand reference book for all levels of RF engineers. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good collection of concepts
This book has a very good collection of most of the concepts related to RFID and is very useful especially for beginners in RFID. I gave only 4 stars as I was dissappointed not to see any examples for any or almost all the concepts explained. For what it costs, I think it makes sense to add some examples liked to some important concepts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for understanding the concepts and applications
If you are an Engineer looking to understand the history, technical aspects, implementation, standards and details of RFID systems, this book provides an excellent introduction for you.

The chapters are well laid out and paced. The author explains the most common devices and systems available in the market, their technology and concepts quite well. Most of the RFID related standards have been covered along with relevant examples. The author covers such things as the hardware design specifications for devices, software requirements, and some basic RF concepts that are required to understand Transponder and Receiver designs.

If you need specifics about recent products however, you might want to research for other sources of information because this book does not cover vendors and products in detail. For readers without technical background, the book introduces the concepts well; but some content might not be relevant because of the [technical] nature. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent way to enter ham radio.
This book is exactly right for someone who wants to become a ham radio operator. This book does two things. It is a self study course that will allow you to pass the Technician level FCC test. It is also a general introduction to all of ham radio, covering the highlights of all that can be done in amateur radio. It has just the right level of sophistication to give a good understanding of all facets of amateur radio but does not get into such extreme detail that it is overwhelming. The technical level is just right as well.

I used an earlier version of this text to study for my amateur radio license (KD4TTC). Even though I studied for the Technician license I was able to pass the written portion of the test for the General license class. However, to get to know Morse code, needed for working the frequencies that will get around the whole globe, you will need to find a way to practice receiving Morse code. While this book won't teach you Morse, you will learn from the book how to go about learning it if you want to. (As an aside, I was not interested in international communications back then, so I skipped that aspect of the hobby. I will be learning Morse this year and will upgrade. There is plenty to do with amateur radio without Morse code, so don't let any disinterest or fear of Morse stop you from becomming a Ham. The book explains all this).

I have not yet come across any aspect of ham radio that was not described at least in overview in this book. I may not know details of lots of aspects of all that is ham radio, but I have not come across anything in Ham radio that I was not introduced to in this book.

You can expect that after reading this book you will be able to pass the Technician license exam, you might even be able to pass the General license written portion, you will have learned how to learn Morse, you will be able to decide what equipment you will need and where to find it, you will be able to set up your station and safely operate it, you will know correct and responsible operating procedures, and you will learn about all the different types of communications you can do so you will pick the most enjoyable aspects of the hobby for yourself.

I have given this book to friends so they can become hams. It works well for that purpose. I came here to buy a copy for yet another potential ham and found myself writing this long review. I am not really that avid of an amateur operator, but I am really enthusiastic about this book because it was such a fun and painless way to learn what I needed to know to get into ham radio.

Buy the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good resource, could use some editing
This is a good learning guide and I think it will be all I need to get my first Ham Radio license. In addition, it has a lot of technical info that is useful in setting up a ham radio station.

My only criticism is that the book has too much information (often repeated) on the social and hobby aspects of ham radio. Not that I don't appreciate this trivia and fun info, it's just that it is mixed in with the technical data that you need to pass the FCC test. As a result, I think you need to study and retain a lot more information.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun to read!
This is a great book to get you started on ham radio. It does a good job of teaching you the material that you need to learn, and most importantly, it keeps you interested in the book. I couldn't give it a full five star review because it doesn't go into much detail about the subjects.

5-0 out of 5 stars All you need for a Tech license
My wife and I both used this book to study for the Technician class exam... and we both passed. My wife is not particularly technically oriented, and was able to grasp the topics presented in the book without any trouble. If you are interested in joining the ham radio ranks to communicate with people around the world, to experiment with radio equipment, or just to chat with local hams, this book will get you started. It explains all the questions in the Technician question pool, and contains a list of all the questions you need to know as well as the answers. Everything you need to know to get started is inside.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to read
Now're you're talking is a great introduction to ham radio. After reading it for a few weeks I felt I was so ready that I tried to tackle Morse code before getting hold of a VE. Passed both the element 1 and 2 with outstanding scores.

Granted, the book has some parts (such as the antenna section) that are useful to the beginner but not present on the test. I skipped these parts and read them later.

The book explains the information clearly. Some memorization is required of the frequency limits for each band, but that is easy if you practice.

Overall, this was a great first book to get me started in ham radio. I've tried to read many other technical books, but this is one of the only one's I've actually finished front-to-back.

By the way, I'm 13 years old. :) ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars ATROCIOUS!
#1 I have visual studio .net 2003 so don't waste my time telling me about hardcoding templates and device specific stuff before you go to the easier way. Please go into the details of the code AFTER the easier way.
#2 The entire chapter on list controls and onwards does NOT make sense and is really hard to understand. I have used j2ee and .net and I should not be having so much trouble understanding your work.
#3 please jump into the book rather than why use .net mobile
#4 Templates chapter is arduous to read.
#5 Openwave sdk 6.2 does not work with examples had to read in chapter 8 that you download updates from MS website before the examples work.
#6 don't take till chapter 11 and page 400 to tell me how to connect to the database! don't waste my time with arrays and list controls as "data collections" before you get to db connectivity etc. the entire lists chapters could have been written better.

Is this is a cultural gap? I went through the GCSE O Levels etc. and I KNOW that British authors and British textbooks are awesome , even better than their american counterparts but for this subject I will have to resort to SAMS books to get the details.

2-0 out of 5 stars coolXterior
Although the title says .Net "Applications", it fails to
mention they are "Web" applications, meaning ASP.Net & WML Pages! Good thing I got this book from my U's library rather
than wasting my money on it. I was looking for "apps" that run
on mobile platforms, not "apps that run in a IE window"
on mobile platforms! Although, it has good descriptions
of resources like the various dev toolkits from different cell
phone vendors, there's not much else.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well Written
I find the previous review completely in error.

While I'm only 5 chapters into the book, I'm finding it well organized and well written. Additionally, I'm working the examples and I'm finding that the "Mobile Internet Toolkit" technology works well over a variety of device emulators.

Having said this, you must also understand that I am a Microsoft basher, although my mind is open to the .Net technologies.

The only criticism that I have so far is that the examples are tending to be very buggy. This is not a problem for me as I learn lots by fixing them, but some readers will find this frustrating.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Need the Marketing Speak
To tell the truth, I didn't read the whole book. I was turned off by the market speak right off the bat in chapter one. There's too many other books out there to explore, so please don't waste my time telling me how good .Net technology is; tell me how to use it. If your looking for a good book on Pocket PC programming, check out "Pocket PC, Handheld PC Developer's Guide with Microsoft Embedded Visual Basic". There's a lot of good, concise info in that book.
As a side note, I'm not a Microsoft basher. I make my bread and butter working with their products. I'm just sick of getting sales pitches everwhere I look. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
All my CDMA Engineers really like this book

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a very good and serious book.
I don't agree with the previous reviewer. It is a serious book with wealth of information and it is not a marketing info book. It covers GSM basics, detailed GPRS and EDGE information and an intro on 3G technologies. GPRS and EDGE chapters particularly good and contain a lot of simulation results also. Warmly recommended.

2-0 out of 5 stars Marketing information
Not a very interesting book. Reading it is like reading pure marketing material from Nokia.

5-0 out of 5 stars Required reading

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book (as others reviewed) on UMTS RN planning.
This is the best book on UMTS radio network planning. In fact it is a masterpiece. Well detailed contents, good diagrams and easy to understand plain English. Covers some theory on air interface techniques as well. Warmly recommended especially for RN planning tool designers.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the Best book for 3G(UMTS) radio network interface
I've read more than 5 books about UMTS air-interface. However, most of books concern only about the physical structure. They didn't tell you WHY the structure is made for. In this book, the explanation is clear and the summary table is really useful. Most of all,it tell you WHY they are made for. Only you know the SPIRIT of physical structure, you will realize the BEAUTY of 3G. I recommand this book for someone with beginning knowledge about UMTS.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very informative , Well-presented but ....
This is one of the best books I've seen and read on 3G matters. Not recommended for those people who are not technical enough (or who hates) to go into the details of mathematical formulas. This book starts with presenting the architecture of UMTS networks and goes on to describe each of the components of a UMTS network (from user equipment up to the core network). Written by people who actually work with Nokia (one of the companies in the world who are at the forefront of UMTS development).

This book can be very helpful to UMTS network planners but it's VERY LIMITED on the subject of optimisation. If you're looking for a book on UMTS (WCDMA) optimisation, this book will not suffice but the subjects of network planning (with and without GSM) are very well covered. Nonetheless, this book is highly recommended !!! 4 stars! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on Wireless Design
Circuits and Wireless Communication designers and Enthusiasts....ENJOY!

A true one-of-a-kind guide to wireless "design". It guides you through the design process step-by-step. The author presents design procedure for every circuit that make up a complete wireless system. He also provides design hints, tips and tricks. Primarily for Electrical Engineers and circuit and electronics enthusiasts, this book is a must for its primary audience. There's so much valuable information and experience in this book you won't find anywhere else.

The book is not intended for people with no electronics or circuit design background. People without such background will find the book difficult to follow and comprehend. Communication designers and engineers, however, will be extremely delighted with this book.
I'm greatly thankful for the author for his excellent book.

Not only does the author get straight to the point without boring you with complicated mathematics and derivations like in some books (there are enough clogging my bookshelf), but also his simple formulas with short and powerful theory is enough to get the job 99% done. He proves that you don't have to get into very elaborate and complicated math routines to get a working design on the table. Sure there are instances where that is needed but as he explains in the book most of the number crunching and optimization can be done by CAD programs these days, leaving it unnecessary for example to hand calculate filter values by hand in these modern times. It is also nice to have a variety of programs included on the CD-rom. Even as a designer for the last 15+ years this book "taught an old dog some new tricks". This will help especially the rookie designer to get working designs in a short time and to avoid pitfalls. Definitely one to have on your bookshelf!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, wonderful, invaluable. Period.
At my place of work I have access to *every* RF/wireless circuit and system design book published since 1969, covering everything from books for the beginner all the way up to books for the extremely advanced RF engineer. In other words, I know what is out there when it comes to wireless circuit design books. Complete Wireless Design fills the huge gap between the cookbook/beginner style of book [which has too much missing info; neglects the disastrous RF design "gotch-yas"; and is not adaptable enough for real life design], and the advanced calculus riddled books [which can be too limited in scope; sometimes are totally incomprehensible; don't address the practical side of engineering; and rarely bother to show detailed schematics of the circuits they are so deeply discussing]. Complete Wireless Design's target is distinctly the practical, and not the theoretical [NOTE: Some university-based teachers or certain engineers may be put-off by this strongly practical, no-nonsense "let's get the circuit designed NOW!" approach, but since my own day to day work pressures force me to swiftly design RF circuits, I personally do not have a problem with this]. While no book can, obviously, be totally complete, Complete Wireless Design comes as close to this ideal as I have seen in my almost 30 years of hardcore RF circuit design experience.

1-0 out of 5 stars Far from complete
This book is another of the "cookbook" type of circuit design books that have been coming out. Wireless design has been going on for many years. There are much better books out there for much less money. Introduction To RF Design by Wes Hayward for starters

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for practical RF Product designers
One of the best books on RF. I have seen lot of books on RF but no one talks as practical as this book and also not so many areas covered. Simple design steps with simple to use formulae are given for many important RF subcircuits like amplifiers, mixers, Oscillators and support circuits. RF is a very complicated field and one can easily get lost with lot of equations and classical approach. This is the perfect book for those who are starting the practical RF design. Those already in the field also have good information in this book. Overall a must book in the personal library. I wish I had this book four years back. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars too many errors and misconceptions
I am very displeased with this book. Many errors in figures and equations. Section 4.2.2 is fundamentally in error.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good but not solid one
The book starts every chapter with good start but ends each chapter with so so. I guess the authors start each chapter with great enthusiasm and then lose it towards the end chapter. The book has some mistakes in the worked example, as simple as transforming impeadance to admittance and vice versa. It has also other rigorous mathematical mishap.
I do recommend it but not to starters since it could easily confuse . I hope the authors revise it and correct the mistakes and carry the enthusiasm to the end of each chapter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful
I think this book is practically the bible for anyone looking into designing radios. Using the material covered in this book, I've built three functioning transcievers. I started as a amateur, knowing the rock-bottom basics of circuit design, and steadily built increasingly more complex prototypes, until I worked up to a 50 watt transciever operating on 3.80512 GHz.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid for Intermediate engineers
If you're interested in learning RF Circuit design, you need this book. This book gradually steps through important sections of analysis in RF design and works its way up to amplifiers, oscillators and mixers.

I bought this book without fully knowing a large number of founding concepts of RF theory. What I found was that this book anticipates this from the reader and invests the first few chapters teaching such topics.

As you progress through the high frequency analysis and learning how to apply the smith chart, you're brought into the world of active circuits. Systematically applying earlier taught material to more advanced topics, the reader is left with a good understanding of pratical application.

Overall, this is a beginner-intermediate RF text. After completing a study of this text, you'll have enough to make basic RF circuits and subsystems. To meet the needs of real world applications, you will need a supplimentary text such as Microwave Transistor Amplifiers by Gonzalez. To back this, i point out the extreme lack of emphasis on S-parameter data, as well as only 15 pages on broadband amplifiers.

Still this is a pretty good book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good intro to RF design
I'm probably a bit biased with this review, seeing as I learned RF design using this text in a course taught by the author. However, I really feel that it is an excellent introduction to the material. The progression through the book is well thought out and easily understandable. A basic knowledge of E/M fields theory is assumed, however. Overall though, for someone who wants an introduction to RF design and wants a book that clearly goes through all the steps in deriving each progressive equation, this book is an excellent choice. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars WOW

5-0 out of 5 stars Must-have book!
This is actually a review of the 20th edition -- Amazon is still selling the 19th edition as of this writing.

The book is essential for anyone wanting to understand and construct antennas, without a lot of math. It covers HF, VHF, and UHF antennas, along with sections on special-purpose antennas.

The only real complaint I have is that the material is not organized in textbook fashion, which often makes information hard to find. For example, information about vertical antenna theory is scattered among three or four chapters. And the book's index is not terribly helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars HAM's to Engineers Antenna Reference: Highly Recommended!
This is a great ham reference, for anybody who builds, designs
and puts up antennas. Its not just for the HAM , it also can be for the shortwave listener that has a pricey receiver, and needs a serious antenna. Attn: serious FM DXers:(Sporadic E theory in here!), and also for the AM listener for loop antennas. LOWFERS!: There is a special section for
you also in this book, in page 6-35 to 6-39. There is also some great stuff for the student that needs some extra information on the how radio waves travel. Also there is a EME section in here also for space hams, that use our moon as a reflector to
get somewhere else in the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is essential
No matter what you think of the ARRL, if you are a member or or not, they do provide the ham community with some invaliable resources. This book is one of them. It includes information on how to safely work on a tower, how to build antena, computer modling, RF exposure limits, antena theory, and a lot more. Plus it includes as CD-ROM with some of the programs mentioned in the text.

A must for all new hams, or anyone who wants to know more about antena. For hams who already have previous editions, you may want it just for the software.

5-0 out of 5 stars The ARRL Antenna Book
Although this book is angled toward radio amateurs ("ham" radio operators) it would be of interest to all interested in antennas.

It's updated yearly by hams and covers the field from theory to actual construction projects. In addition to antennas it covers transmission lines and antenna tuners (transmatch devices).

I'm buying a new one this year. My 8-year-old one is getting tattered from continual use, so it's time to get a fresh one. However, they are so good I save the old ones too. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Marred by grammatical and technical typos
This book "could" have been a great book had Mr. Bates proofread it once before publishing it. Having read GSM and GPRS papers before reading this book, I have to say that this book is replete with technical snafus [a case in point for those who suspect is on pg. 30 third paragraph of the Introduction to GSM chapter "paging message sent over PAGCH"] Now anyone with half a brain knows that
1. PAGCH is a GPRS logical channel NOT GSM.
2. It is an Access Grant channel NOT a paging channel which in case of GSM is PCH and PPCH in GPRS.

Now someone new to GPRS would be confused as hell after reading this [I admit I was confused for a couple of minutes too :-), since I am not supposed to be the expert but Mr. Bates was]

Structure wise the book is okay but needs a stringent review of the rambling grammer and the blatant mistakes. IMO its not worth forking 60 bucks. If Mr. Bates is reading this, I adjure you sir to take some time off from your speaking tours and correct the mistakes in this book.

Am giving it two stars for good layout. Taking away three stars for incorrect content.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lack of context
Too much GPRS specific and lacking deep insight in GPRS deployment aspects

5-0 out of 5 stars GPRS General Packet Radio Service
Excellent book! Written in easy to understand language but also provides the detail needed to help in understanding this technology. As with all the books written by Mr. Bates, this is a qualty piece of material.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference book on GPRS, a must for your Tel.library
This book has a well structured flow and brings you up to speed quickly on GPRS. Easy to read, yet very informative.

This book would also make a great textbook, it helped me to come up to speed quickly. Great explanation of layers and interfaces. To the point, with plenty of supporting illustrations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Should be titles GPRS simplified!
Great book on GPRS. I have read a couple of others on the subject, but this one I found was the best one out there. Written so anyone can understand. Examples and the structure of this book is right on the money! Great reference book, I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about GPRS and have it stick!!! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners
I have had this book for a couple of years. Reading it following the chapters of the book, I was frustrated by the lack of cohesion. New names were introduced without much explanations. Index section could be more complete. It is somewhat useful as a reference for certain details

5-0 out of 5 stars An introduction to IS-95, and a glance to CDMA2000
The book's content is organized very well. I recommend the book those readers, as it is stated in its preface, who needs an easy and smooth introduction to IS-95 and CDMA 2000, but not requiring a detailed mathematical analysis, or complex and complete systems architectures, network protocols. The book gives a good outline of IS-95 and explain the advances coming with CDMA 2000.

3-0 out of 5 stars "cdma2000" should not be in the title of this book!
This book has only one chapter on cdma2000, most of which is a re-work of what's available from standard specifications and freely downloadable from .... The use of "cdma2000" in the title of this book is somewhat tongue-in-cheek, as the book provides little insight beyond what's readily (and cryptically) available elsewhere. The treatment of IS-95 is deeper, particularly on handoff. Coverage of power control is terse. On the whole, this book provides good grounding for IS-95 (cdmaOne), yet leaves the reader to make appropriate connections to cdma2000.

3-0 out of 5 stars MIGRATION FROM IS-95 TO CDMA2000

... Book Description

Fixed broadband networks can provide far higher data rates and capacity than the currently envisioned 3G and 4G mobile cellular systems. Achieving higher data rates is due to the unique technical properties of fixed systems, in particular, the use of high gain and adaptive antennas, wide frequency bands, dynamic data rate and channel resource allocation, and advanced multiple access techniques.

Fixed Broadband Wireless System Design is a comprehensive presentation of the engineering principles, advanced engineering techniques, and practical design methods for planning and deploying fixed wireless systems, including:

  • Point-to-point LOS and NLOS network design
  • Point-to-point microwave link design including active and passive repeaters
  • Consecutive point and mesh network planning
  • Advanced empirical and physical propagation modeling including ray-tracing
  • Detailed microwave fading models for multipath and rain
  • NLOS (indoor and outdoor) propagation and fading models
  • Propagation environment models including terrain, morphology, buildings, and atmospheric effects
  • Novel mixed application packet traffic modeling for dimensioning network capacity
  • Narrow beam, wide beam, and adaptive (smart) antennas
  • MIMO systems and space-time coding
  • Channel planning including fixed and dynamic channel assignment and dynamic packet assignment
  • IEEE 802.11b and 802.11a (WLAN) system design
  • Free space optic (FSO) link design
At present, there are no titles available that provide such a concise presentation of the wide variety of systems, frequency bands, multiple access techniques, and other factors that distinguish fixed wireless systems from mobile wireless systems. Fixed Broadband Wireless System Design is essential reading for design, system and RF engineers involved in the design and deployment of fixed broadband wireless systems, fixed wireless equipment vendors, and academics and postgraduate students in the field.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, new engineering material
As well as being a good overall book covering many traditional wireless topics, this book also offers detailed information on several subjects like propagation databases (terrain, buildings, etc), traffic loading models for cell sectors and spectrum utlization that are not found in any other books I've seen on wireless engineering. Other books I have on propagation modeling (like Rappaport's or Bertoni's) don't treat the subject of database construction and potential errors. This book also brings together traditional microwave link design (rain fades, etc.) with design of multipoint systems using new CDMA and OFDM technologies - again, not found together in other books. Even the stuff of WiFi is useful, but I would have liked more included on this subject. Highly recommended if you're involved in fixed wireless design. ... Read more
