5-0 out of 5 stars Very Very good service
I got the book within less than 5 business days... and in a very very good condition as advertised.
This book seller is really very reliable.
    Thank you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well written and very practical
I've been a Test Engineer for 13 years and take it from me, this book is so close to real life situation. It obviously written by people who practice the art of Test Engineering. I wish that I had this book in my very 1st year. This is the bible for every TE.

5-0 out of 5 stars A truly practical book
Most texts on testing seem to be written for the design engineer. They talk a lot about the fault model, the doping process, how the pattern generation algorithms are not perfect...It's like teaching Chemistry at a cooking class.
But don't get me wrong, this is not a cookbook. It does teach a fair amount of "Chemistry". But it's able to show the reader why the theories are relevant and how to apply them. The solutions are presented in the context of the problems, not the other way around, like most text books.

5-0 out of 5 stars best book on the matket for mixed signal test
I looked for a book which covers all the important issues for
mixed signal test. This book delivers all the nesessery information for a mixed signal test Eng. It explains all
issues very simple and because of so many example it is
very useful even for not-experienced people.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Comprehensive Handbook for Test Engineers
This is the most complete and authoritative text on the subject of Mixed Signal Testing that I have come across. It is unmatched in terms of the sheer number and variety of practical problems that it addresses. The solutions that the book proposes can be readily applied to many situations and that makes this truly remarkable book a must for every test or product engineer. ... Read more

    A PAPERBACK ORIGINAL

The best handbook on chart usage, from one of the most trusted names in boating

In 2000, the U.S. government ceased publication of Chart No. 1, the invaluable little book that generations of mariners have consulted to make sense of the complex system of signs, symbols, and graphic elements used in nautical charts. Now Chart No. 1 is not just reborn but expanded and improved in How to Read a Nautical Chart. The demand for a book like this has never been greater.

Arranged and edited by Nigel Calder, one of today's most respected boating authors, and containing four-color illustrations throughout, How to Read a Nautical Chart presents a number of original features that help readers make optimum use of the data found in Chart No. 1, including a more intuitive format, crucial background information, international chart symbol equivalents, electronic chart symbology, and thorough explanations of the practical aspects of nautical chart reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Test engineers need this one
I used the 2nd edition of this book while in engineering labs at Clemson and now use the 2nd and now 3rd edition in my test engineering work. I find myself being able to go into it and pulling out enough information to get me going on a new test design project. The stuff on uncertainty cannot be found elsewhere and useful. One of the better real-world texts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Creates an excellent foundation.
An excellent book for learning about fiberglass/composites. Before reading this book, I had little knowledge about composties, but a desire to learn. The information is presented in a way that anyone can understand it. Aird educates the reader about different fiber types and weaves, resins and resin systems, gel coat, trade tools, safety, and basic lay-up. He also includes information on molds, plugs, and strength/stress -- though I feel these sections make having some hands-on knowledge of composites an asset, which I lack. It is an excellent book that can take you from knowing nothing, to a point where you can talk intelligently about composites with someone in the FRP field. As other reviews have pointed out, this is not a step by step manual; but is probably a prerequisite to actually understanding one. In conclusion: I enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning about fiberglass and composite systems.

4-0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth the price
I had an interest in getting into Fiberglassing, so i bought this book. As most of the other people who reviewed this book said, it's not a step by step manual, but it offers a very good overview. Good enough that i ended up buying a second copy for a friend. If you have an interest, i would recommend this book. It's worth the price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fiberglass & Composite Materials : An Enthusiast's Guide to
This is an excellent overview of materials and current practices.

You might want to consider getting the book MARINE COMPOSITES (www.marinecomposites.com) on your site to compliment Mr. Aird's good book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview
This book is more of an overview than a step-by-step instruction book, but it still contains a great deal of highly practical information. If you are thinking of using composites in a car, homebuilt plane, or boat, this book is a good first step. It is one of the few that is up-to-date enough to treat the new epoxy systems and fibers like Kevlar and carbon as practical options.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good general information, not a step by step guide.
The book provides information about many different types of composite materials. It discusses the differences in these materials and why you would choose one over the other. It is definately not a step by step guide nor is it geared to any one specific use of composite materials. This is probably a book for a boat/race car/airplane designer who needs to know more about the different types of composites out there. It also covers building molds and plugs; something more for the commercial person than the do it yourselfer. If you just want to build/repair a boat or a car there are better books out there. If you have no clue about the different types of fiberglass cloth and resins and the like and you are about to start a big project, then maybe this is the book for you. Just remember, it is not a step by step guide and it does not go into great detail on any one specific topic. It is sort of an industry overview. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!!!!!
To say that the Master Handbook of Acoustics is an 'incredibly comprehensive work' it's like saying that the Beatles were 'some band from Liverpool'. Without a doubt, a must-have. Better than that, buy two and enlighten a friend! :-)

Now really, this is the absolute definitive book on acoustics, covering topics ranging from sound propagation to room acoustics to absortion, diffusion, refraction, reflection, diffraction and everything else you can think of.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a Handbook of Acoustics
If you believe that the world of acoustics only consists of rooms and concert halls, this is the introductory book for you.

Otherwise, the treatment of contemporary topics is piecemeal. The introductory material is not sufficient to inform the more recent elements (the chapter on digital sound is laughable).

It is well worth the money for room acoustics. It should indicate that specific focus in the title. No where will you find psychoacoustics, instrument acoustics, microphone issues, and true recording issues.

4-0 out of 5 stars easy to read, easy to understand
I like this book: it's mainly about acoustic principles and room acoustics. It's easy to read (even for a beginner) and is not too superficial. One of the few audio books I still return to every now and then.
I would buy this book again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but...
Very good in relation to room acoustics, but almost useless out of America. The book does not acknowledge the metric system, and the chapters about construction apply to materials and construction methods used only in America.

Otherwise, a really good book at hammering the basics in your head! If only there were metric versions of the equations...

5-0 out of 5 stars This is an Outstanding Book
This is an outstanding book for anyone interested in room acoustics. My motivation as an Audiophile for purchasing this book was to answer the basic question: "Should my next audio investment be in room acoustic treatments, and if so what are the considerations involved?" This book methodically breaks down every aspect of the behavior of sound, and how that behavior affects and is percieved by the listener. Reverberation, reflection, dispersion, diffraction, absorption, spectral analyses, modal analyses, room topology, etc., etc... It's all there. An absolute must have for any Audiophile. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Hooray for Hartmann!
Simply put, this is the only assigned text I kept from my college years. It's compact size and overall readability are excellent. Although intended for advanced undergrads and beginning graduate students, it's still a great reference for multi-disciplinary scientists, basic global circulation modellers, researchers, and professors. The appendices are particularly noteworhty, especially the list of English and Greek symbols commonly used in just about all the physical sciences, and the derivation of SI Units. If anything, the book is pricey (as all in the International Geophysics Series are), but this one is worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars The standard of comparison for global systems science.
This is the most thorough, most rigorous, well-written textbook in global systems climatology that I've seen. If you're bright, interested, and aren't allergic to equations (you don't need to read them to understand the book, you just have to not freak out) then this text will teach you more about the planet as a dynamic system than any other that I've seen -- plus, unlike most texbooks, it's not chuck full of stupid mistakes. Book Description

Completely revised and updated, this new edition of the popular and highly regarded textbook, Applied Geophysics, describes the physical methods involved in exploration for hydrocarbons and minerals. These tools include gravity, magnetic, seismic, electrical, electromagnetic, and radioactivity studies. All aspects of these methods are described, including theoretical considerations, data acquisition, and data processing and interpretation, with the objective of locating concentrations of natural resources and defining their extent. In the past fourteen years or so since the writing ofApplied Geophysics, there have been many changes in the field of exploration geophysics. The authors give full treatment to changes in this field, which include improved techniques for calculating gravity fields, the use of proton-precession and optically-pumped magnetometers, improved quality of seismic data, magnetotelluric as a practical exploration method, new electromagnetic exploration methods, the use of gamma-ray spectrometers in radioactive exploration, and improved well-logging techniques. The intent is to be practical, and thus many actual examples and problems are given. Moreover, wherever possible in this edition the authors adopt the use of Système Internationale (SI) units, which were not in standared use at the time of the first edition. The reader needs only a general background knowledge of geology, physics, and mathematics. Most of the math can be skipped by those interested only in the results. Advanced mathematical concepts are explained in the appendix. ... Read more

    Book Description

This manual is designed to provide users with an understanding and appreciation of some of the theoretical concepts behind control system elements and operations, without the need of advanced math and theory. It also presents some of the practical details of how elements of a control system are designed and operated, such as would be gained from on-the-job experience. This middle ground of knowledge enables users to design the elements of a control system from a practical, working perspective, and comprehend how these elements affect overall system operation and tuning. The guidebook provides an introduction to process control, and covers analog and digital signal conditioning, thermal, mechanical and optical sensors, final control, discrete-state process control, controller principles, analog controllers, digital control and control loop characteristics. For those working in measurement and instrumentation and with PLCs. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Same material in 1988 edition!
For those of us looking for new up-to-date technical information in the process field we will have to go elsewhere. This book contains the same basic information as in the first edition. While it has some good material for learning beginning theoretical process control at the technical level it is a waste of money if you are interested in modern technology.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good book for beinners but take a look at your course req
This was one of the first books i read on process control.Whether or not you should buy the book would depend on what your course demands.

The beauty of the book lies in its lucidity which shows the authors understanding of all the sensors and instruments...the book stresses on the principles of working of all the instruments. i understood every single transducer I learnt about in the book.Another plus point of the book is that it is self-sufficient, in that you dont have to take another book while reading this one.It starts off by discussing all that you need to know about OP-Amp circuits for process control and even digital electronics.

My course in Process Control demanded a very high degree of detail in most of the process control mechnanisms and transducers so i didnt find everything I needed in this book. But it covered my syllabus to the greatest extent of all the books and explained it in a beautiful manner. ... Book Description

Honey-mustard chicken roasting in an oven, fashion models sporting the latest line of lipstick, blush and balm, and the piercing sound of paper being torn in half may not seem to have much in common. But in reality, food, cosmetic and paper products similar to these often undergo rigorous testing at some stage or another as part of a fascinating-and stimulating-scientific process: sensory evaluation.Aimed at the practicing sensory professional, Sensory Evaluation Techniques, Third Edition, makes product evaluation clear, concise, and approachable, with the simplest to the most complex sensory methods and their interpretation spelled out. The book explores the theory and applications of sensory evaluation methods with sufficient background material to allow the user to understand the evaluation of sensory perception and actually perform sensory tests. The book's "how-to" description of sensory evaluation methods features all of the commonly-used practical sensory tests, followed by a guide to selecting the optimal method for a given problem. Descriptions are accompanied by several practical examples. Consumer research techniques are included, and the book contains complete instructions for the Spectrumä method of descriptive analysis, as well as relevant selection of those statistical techniques the sensory analyst needs, with examples illustrating the analysis of sensory tests.New in the Third Edition is the latest information on sensory tests and statistical techniques for the analysis of sensory data being introduced all over the world. The Unified Approach to discrimination testing, for example, which is now becoming the norm in sensory science, is examined in detail, with examples provided. Also new: a Test Sensitivity Analyzer and over 300 scales and hundreds of standard terms for the Spectrum method. So whether it be for instructors and students of sensory science, practicing sensory analysts, or researchers and libraries in the production and marketing of food, beverages, cosmetics, fragrances, textiles and paper products, Sensory Evaluation Techniques, Third Edition, is one of the most comprehensive sources on sensory panel techniques in the industry. ... Book Description

Naturalness in synthetic speech is one of the most intractable problems in information technology today. Although speech synthesis systems have improved considerably over the last 20 years, they rarely sound entirely like human speakers.

Why is this so, and what can be done about it?

    • Prosodic processing must be rendered more varied and more appropriate to the speech situation

    • Timing, melodic control and the relationships between the various prosodic parameters need increased attention

    • Signal processing systems must be developed and perfected that are capable of generating more than just one voice from a database

    • A better understanding must be achieved of what distinguishes one voice from another, and of how speech styles differ between simply reading aloud numbers and sentences and their use in interactive speech

    • New evaluation methodologies should be developed to provide objective and subjective measurements of the intelligibility of the synthetic speech and the cognitive load imposed upon the listener by impoverished stimuli

    • Adequate text markup systems must be proposed and tested with multiple languages in real-world situations

    • Further research is required to integrate speech synthesis systems into larger natural-language processing systems
Improvements in Speech Synthesis presents the latest research in the above areas. Contributors include speech synthesis specialists from 16 countries, with experience in the development of systems for 12 European languages. This volume emerges from a four-year European COST project focussed on "The Naturalness of Synthetic Speech", and will be a valuable text for everyone involved in speech synthesis. ... Read more
