5-0 out of 5 stars It works!
My husband and I read this book as part of our Hypnobirthing class. It has extremely practical and simple lessons for learning how to manage childbirth through deep relaxation and concentration. The main lesson is that when you free yourself from fear and tension, and free your body to do what it needs to, childbirth can be a very fulfilling, profound, and pain-free experience.

I had a wonderful birth, free from pain and fear, despite the fact that my labor was induced with the rupturing of my amniotic sac. At no time did I come close to even considering medication for pain (because there was none!). An added benefit was the great bond that my husband and I felt during our practice and the birth, with him guiding, encouraging, and soothing me. He felt like an important participant in the birth, rather than just a coach, cheering from the sidelines.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must read for all moms-to-be
This book is wonderful! It explains the process of hypnobirthing completely. It is easy to understand and is written well. The author explains how women experience pain in childbirth only because we are conditioned to think its necessary. Marie Mongan elaborates on this theory, the "Curse of Eve", as she calls it. After reading this book I definitely felt more confident about my pending birth of my second child, and I am more relaxed in my day-to-day events.

She explains how we are affected by stress and fear, how it works against our body's natural flow of labor. This book also explains techniques for relaxing and for inducing self-hypnosis. It also includes the different stages of labor and different sections for your birthing partner. It is not intended to be the only source if you choose this type of birthing process, you should also consult a therapist who is knowledgeable in hypnobirthing. She even has a website for more information!

I definitely recommend this book for any mom-to-be, especially if your first birthing experience was not what you wanted for yourself and your baby.

5-0 out of 5 stars IT WORKS. PERIOD.
I was a skeptic. But with my first pregnancy, I had so many problems with drugs *not working*. The epidural wore off. Twice. And the third time it never took. I had other drugs on top of it, and they ran through me like water. The doctor said my adrenaline was running so high, it didn't seem like anything would take. And when it finally came time to push, I was so exhausted, they had to use forceps to keep me from a c-section. And I felt every bit of it.

So with the second pregnancy, I knew better than to rely on drugs. I had to learn how to deal with it on my own. At first, I was panicked. And then I read this book. I thought they were crazy. But what the heck - I gave it a try. I labored at home for 18 hours without even having to call my doula yet. My husband watched football playoff games!!! But be careful - you can cut it too close! I genuinely felt very little pain! But if I had it to do over again, I would have gotten to the hospital just a bit sooner, because my daughter was born only 20 minutes after I got in my hospital bed! I was not in near the amount of pain after delivery, my daughter was very alert, and best of all, I had - I still can't believe I'm saying this - a WONDERFUL labor and delivery. It reaffirmed for me what we are really capable of handling - not just having handed to us, but *handling*.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Birthing
This book is an excellent guide to peaceful birthing. Everyone woman should receive this book as a gift. It truly is wonderful. Mickey Mongan's method has been tested and proven true. I practice HypnoBirthing as taught by Ms. Mongan and my birthing experience was beautiful, calm and pain-free.

I simply cannot say enough wonderful things about the HypnoBirthing Method!

4-0 out of 5 stars Some great techniques helped me labor drug-free...
I'm grateful to this book for giving me a couple of excellent relaxation techniques we were able to use during my labor, and for the positive outlook it lends to our increasingly tech-dependent birth system. It's not quite as helpful, thorough or organized as the home-study course, but as an introduction to self-hypnosis in birthing, it's valuable. I should stress that your support in the birthing room is the most important thing... everyone attending needs to be in agreement w/ your decision to go natural because a little negativity or doubt can really affect a birthing mother and stall labor. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Starter Book
As the title indicates, this is a great way to get started in self hypnosis. The author writes with great knowledge of the subject and is interested in using hypnosis for the good of his reader. I found it leaving me with a desire to learn more about hypnosis. The only downfall with this book is that it seems to give the reader the routines instead of teaching how to make routines for yourself. Still, I have read it more than once and would highly recommend it to any one who is interested in getting started in self hypnosis. A GREAT book for beginners.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book for anyone interested in hypnosis.
Hypnosis for Beginners is an excellent book for anyone wishing to learn more about self-hypnosis and the hypnosis of others. It includes complete scripts on regression, self-regression, self-hypnotism, and a full six session script for weight loss, teaching you routines for induction and deep relaxation that can be used for any purpose you desire. Hewitt breaks every session into routines which can be modified to meet your specific needs. The author thoroughly explains the state of hypnosis, many useful applications of it, and includes a full chapter of suggestions you can use to broaden your mind and improve yourself in many ways, all worded in an easy-to-read fashion. I have read this book several times and have found it extremely useful. Anyone interested in hypnosis, especially those who wish to begin using it to enhance the lives of themselves and others, should consider this book a must.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent: All there is to say.
I am an 11-year-old from somewhere in the United States. I'm too lazy to get a tape recorder and stuff, so I skipped self-hypnosis until I can make my kid-sitter (not baby, mind you!) hypnotize me. Here's my story (It'll be long): I have had an interest in hypnosis from about as soon as I learned what it was. I immediately got a very small book from my library explaining some of the myths and other stuff about hypnosis, including myths and why some people are afraid to be hpnotized. Since then, I had never really gotten another book because I assumed hypnosis was hard and should be left to trained adults (professional hypnotists). Besides, when you're eleven or younger, all of that self-improvement stuff sounds really boring. I'm not overweight, I'm not unhealthy, I obviously don't smoke, what was there for me? I still looked up hypnosis on the Internet, though, trying to find a quick-and-easy method to do it that was also free. I suppose it was about time I realized the world wasn't like that. Finally, I couldn't take it any more, so when I was at my library, I looked up "hypnosis," found a book that looked simple and also cool, and using the Dewey Decimal System (it's really quite easy once you get used to it), I found the book, borrowed it, and promptly began reading as soon as I was back in the car. It revealed some more myths and stuff, and I had finally found what I had been looking for all along: A quick, easy, completely effortless way to hypnotize yourself and others. I wanted to hypnotize myself initially, but twhen I discovered I needed a tape player or else I had to memorize the stuff, I decided my first test subject would be my sister (eight years old). The problem was, she didn't want to be hypnotized and didn't really see the point. She was afraid even after I read her the myths and made sure she thoroughly knew that hypnosis was completely safe and I couldn't make her do anything she didn't want to or get her "stuck" in hypnosis. She also wouldn't relax, even after I had proved it was safe by using my willing kid-sitter as a test subject. She was more concerned with what I was going to do and making it look good then actually cooperating. The secret to hypnosis is relaxation, and if you don't relax and let go, hypnosis won't do you a **** thing. So I let her go and used my sitter as my primary subject. Before I had really hypnotized her well, I tried it on some of my friends at school, but the atmosphere was different and noisy, and although I managed to put them into a very, very light state of hypnosis, my suggestions wouldn't work and I would need more time and a better atmosphere to do the job well. So I stuck with my sitter, hypnotizing her very well the second time (the first time was just really to get used to it, it didn't work, but it prepared her and helped her with more serious sessions). I can prove this point with this: One of the suggestions, you will feel the best you've ever felt in your life when I wake you up, worked; when prompted, she informed me that an example of a time when she felt as good was her birthday. Also, I was counting down from twenty to take her out of hypnosis, and she said that the first number she heard was "seven." That would prove I had her very deep, as I was speaking plenty loud enough for her to hear. The third time was even better; afterwards she had to ask what number I was counting down from (50, if you'll believe it), because the first number she heard was 20. Even though I told you the secret was relaxation, I still recommend this book. It goes into more detail and it's really an excellent book. It helped me hypnotize my first subject, which gave me more confidence in myself and how easy it was, and also proved those grown-ups wrong: You don't have to work hard to get what you want. I figured that it wouldn't do the author of the book or any harm if I reviewed this book and possibly helped them make money. After you read the book, you'll see why it was hard for me to describe it and also how wonderful and EASY the techniques are.

The time of my review is one day after the third session, with one day between each session, and a few weeks, I guess, since I got the book out. I finished the book but continue to review the information to etch it into my mind and get me more used to it so I can return the book to the library.

    Thanks, Mr. Hewitt!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great starter for beginners but....
I understand the variety of many reviewers on here but felt compelled to share my experience with this book.

First of all, for any "beginner" as the title indicates, this is in my opinion a helpful, positive selection. This book was the first I ever purchased on the subject and I am pleased that it was. Had I read any other book on this subject, prior to this one, I almost certainly would have been discouraged from pursuing hypnosis/hypnotherapy further.

I found this book easy and fun to read, while also instilling confidence from the beginning. The majority of books I have since read on the subject are fairly dry and often take some understanding of specific terminology to grasp. But none the less contain often times necessary information for any true seeker.

As far as hypnotizing, I personally read Hewitt's scripts directly from this book, within my first week of reading it, and had success with my first subject. With only the minor issue of having to repeat the induction (due to my own lack of confidence and the sitters skepticism), but ultimately resulting in a deep "trance state". I have since moved on but still use many of his tips and techniques in my own personal scripts.

Due to it's low purchase price, ease of reading, and the fact that it covers several areas of interest to a "beginner", I feel this book is a worthwhile purchase and recommend it to anyone who is just starting out or even has a curiosity with the topic.

On the other hand, if you are a more serious seeker, or have some knowledge and background in this area; thus looking for more serious instructions and information on this topic there are more appropriate choices out there. I would also recommend, that with this book, all "beginners" consider purchasing a book that focusing more about induction as the induction method Hewitt uses is not always as effective as it can be, should the inductor and sitter not be completely confident about the success.

I have read several of Hewitt's books and feel his writing is easy, smooth and comprehendible. But as several of his title's indicate they are for "beginners".

To my disappointed his arrogance is noted as a downfall to anyone who reads his books, as he references that in general only "his" books were needed for information and guidance in the areas of his books focus on. I have found, on the contrary, the more I read from various sources about any subject the more I learn. Every view point offers a unique perspective giving you the best possible way to gain individuality and establish your own concepts.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Jumpstarter
This book taught me how to hypnotize people, but the sessions just don't work for the people that I want to hypnotize. The kids that I want to hypnotize have trouble sitting for that amount of time. so I made my own sessions and they work great! I will spare you the nine dollers and tell you that the secret to hypnosis is daydream mixed with relaxation. but if you still want to buy this book, it is very good. even for a kid like me! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Overcome The Fear
I listened to this CD 5 days (25 minutes each day) prior to my trip. I had the BEST flight ever! Considering I drove off the last time I was supposed to fly, leaving my husband to board a plane for Vegas by himself, I needed help! This was the absolute best! At first I hated the anxiety I felt listening to the CD. I got over it. I LOVED the flight, looked out the window, actually went to the bathroom. I had a drink on the flight because I wanted to not because I needed it! I came home from my trip and booked two more trips! The freedom is awesome. Go for it! Get CD at least 2 weeks prior to flying as recommended by author. A little more time than what I had can't hurt.

5-0 out of 5 stars It worked!
It worked !!! Don't hesitate a minute to buy it if you have anxiety about flying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Miraculous! And I do not use the word lightly.

I avoided flying until I was over 34 years old and only flew twice in the 20 years following. It was extremely unpleasant for me as I was in a state of near terror during the entire flight. The sweat poured off me. The only way I could manage it was with a prescription for Ativan, a powerful anxiety relieving medication that also makes you very sleepy -- not the greatest thing for running through an airport trying to make your connecting flight!

A chance came up for me to go to Maui, HI and I just couldn't turn it down. Though I was skeptical, I bought Fear of Flying and played it every day for a month right up to the day before the flight. I also used anchoring techniques, such as touching my thumb to my index finger during the diaphragmatic breathing and the hypnotic induction so that my brain would learn to associate the activities. I listened very carefully to the pre-flight rehearsal and imagined it as vividly as I could. I also followed the flight rehearsal carefully and repeated the affirmations with feeling. In short, I really wanted this to work and cooperated accordingly.

I am extremely happy to report that the three flights involved in this trip was drug-free and went smoothly, calmly, and, yes, enjoyably. Whenever we hit turbulence (and hit a lot of it) I would just learn back in my seat, touch my index fingers to my thumbs and recite some of the affirmations from the sessions. My favorite was "Not a care in the world." The calm of training sessions quickly returned. My wife sat next to me in utter astonishment.

Believe it or not, later that week I suggested a helicopter tour of Maui. We didn't actually get to go because of bad weather -- but I was willing!

If your results are even half as good as mine, you will be amazed. The results I achieved using Glenn Harrold's Fear of Flying CD is truly remarkable and, knowing what I now know, I would pay ten times the price and wait in line to do it!

Best of luck to you. I know what you are going through.

5-0 out of 5 stars It worked!
After many years of suffering from terrible anxiety when flying I was able to have a very comfortable round trip flight without one full blown panic attack. Still a little nervous, but will keep flying and getting better every time!

5-0 out of 5 stars HELPED ME LEARN TO TAKE TO THE SKY!
I ordered this from Amazon, and had them ship it overnight. I was desperate. I listened to the CD for a good week or two faithfully every morning. Mr. Harrold takes you through the whole flight with a reassuring voice. Step by step through arriving at the airport, take-off, during flight and landing. I am not sure if it is the subliminal messages or the soothing talking, but it has made me alot calmer with flying. I also listen to the CD before and during the flight (except take-off and have to turn off everything electronic) but by then, I am calm enough to handle it. I still have my Klonopin handy when I fly, but this CD has allowed me to fly without having to actually take it. Thank-you Mr. Harrold. I also recommend his other true potential CD, it is a real pick-me-up. ... Read more

    Book Description

How do we make decisions--good and bad--and why are some people so much better at it than others? Thats the question Malcolm Gladwell asks and answers in the follow-up to his huge bestseller, The Tipping Point. Utilizing case studies as diverse as speed dating, pop music, and the shooting of Amadou Diallo, Gladwell reveals that what we think of as decisions made in the blink of an eye are much more complicated than assumed. Drawing on cutting-edge neuroscience and psychology, he shows how the difference between good decision-making and bad has nothing to do with how much information we can process quickly, but on the few particular details on which we focus. Leaping boldly from example to example, displaying all of the brilliance that made The Tipping Point a classic, Gladwell reveals how we can become better decision makers--in our homes, our offices, and in everyday life. The result is a book that is surprising and transforming. Never again will you think about thinking the same way. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Finally Found It!!
I've been using Glenn Harrolds Weight Loss tape for three months now and it's wonderful.Although I lost focus for awhile and was expecting to just listen to the tape and it would do the work I am now back on track. You need to remember that you're working with your mind and must stay focused. The music is very uplifting and his voice calms me at the worst of times.I've lost twelve pounds with no drugs and I don't have to watch everything I eat,my cravings are gone.

2-0 out of 5 stars not so great
I have used hypnosis tapes before. Usually they are very relaxing. This one starts out with funkie music on both sessions. I like to listen to the tapes and go to sleep. At the end of the session it will have you wake up. Sound is of quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Really, Really Works
Before listening to this CD, my mind was a battle ground between the desire for thinness and the lust for the fantastic-tasting goodies of life. It was diet after diet and failure after failure. After just one exposure to the hypnotic suggestions on this CD, I suddenly behaved in a different way. No more dinners of frozen yogurt and toasted raisin bread with a stick of butter. I now choose to eat fresh, colorful vegetables and rice. It isn't that I am forcing myself to do this, I want to do it. The ideas on this tape are very healthy, but what I value more is that the techniques are very powerful. Years ago, I consulted a hypnotist who made me a tape of our session, and it was nowhere near as effective as the deep trance and fantastic results I can achieve using this CD. I am very enthusiastic about this way of relating to food and instead of having a love-hate relationship with food, I now appreciate my subconscious mind for the help it is giving me in reaching the goal I really, really want--freedom from both diets and weight gain. ... I had never heard of Mr. Harrold, and bought Unleash Your True Potential based largely on the positive reviews on Amazon. While awaiting delivery I hoped I hadn't wasted my money on some flake's amateurish 'self-help' scheme.

I didn't waste my money. This is one of the best self-hypnosis/self-help CDs I've ever heard. The production quality is outstanding. The mix of music and sound effects really enhances the presentation and evokes an extremely relaxing atmosphere. I've used the CD for about 30 days, and have noticed some gradual improvments in myself: My stress level has lowered, and I've experienced greater self-confidence, and self-esteem. Certain talents I had been sublimating have been returning to the surface, and my overall outlook is turning more positive.

Mind you, I'm not claiming this CD is a cure-all or panacea. The improvements I mentioned are gradual ones ... but at least they're improvements. Over time, I believe the compounded effect of listening to the CD could lead to more dramatic results. The only drawback I experienced was getting used to Harrold's distinct Brit accent, but that's minor. He's put together a quality package. If you're interested in this type of material, give Harrold a listen.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Absolutely Wonderful CD!
This is an absolutely wonderful CD! I've listened to several hypnosis tapes over the years but I can honestly say this is the best I've heard. It is a high quality sound recording by Glenn Harrold, an experienced clinical hypnotherapist. Glenn's voice is very soothing and relaxing. The 60bpm sound effects guide you into a deeply relaxed state of mental and physical relaxation. I find myself entering into a deep trance state almost immediately. In this very receptive and relaxed state, you will be given a number of post hypnotic suggestions and carefully layered affirmations to help you realize your full potential. I love the background echoed affirmations which pan from left to right in my headphones. This deeply relaxing and powerful method of delivering multiple suggestions simultaneously to the unconscious mind can facilitate positive changes very quickly. I find the affirmations to be very empowering and you are encouraged to develop your true potential easily and effortlessly without struggle. The background music is wonderful. It ranges in sounds from soft mystic voices to rhythmic beats. Both the words and the music are written arranged, recorded and produced by Glenn Harrold. It is professionally done with the sincere intent of helping others to heal and become empowered. I highly recommend this CD. Thanks, Glenn, for this beautiful gift of love.

5-0 out of 5 stars Has helped me immensely!
What a wonderful CD. I have listened to this faithfully for two weeks, and I am beginning to be more upbeat and positive. I have even decided to take a trip despite of my fear of flying. The music is very upbeat, and I found that I go into transe more quickly with daily listening. It is like a big pat on the shoulder to start your day off with. This is a very professionally made CD. The way the voices move from one side of the headset to the other helps the suggestions. I wake up feeling much more energized. I have tried Ms. Deckers CDs, and they are okay, but this is the one I turn to every morning. Thanks Mr. Harrold for your wonderful work on this!

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best business/success books out there
Unfortunately, during my experience with corporate America I've had several business/success books thrust upon me. The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People is the only one that was worth reading.

This book, coupled with the First Things First training I received at work has had an enormous impact on me. Five years later, I still organize my life based on my mission statement, roles, and goals. I plan weekly and take time out to Sharpen the Saw. I don't always live up to the seven habits, but at least I'm going in the right direction. Periodically I pull this book out of my bookshelf and flip through it to reinforce the lessons it contains. It's also one of the few books I've ever bought someone as a gift.

My biggest criticism is that Covey has a tendency to beat you over the head with examples. Numerous times as I read the book I thought to myself, I get it, move on. My other big complaint is that this book coined the word "proactive," which is believed to mean the opposite of reactive, but actually means that the person using it is an idiot and needs to resort to using made-up words to appear highly effective.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book has definitely changed my life for the better.
This is a book that has changed my life irrevocably and forever. It required great energy, patience and time to read, one with much meaning and very deep in content. In fact, after struggling through the first two Principles outlined in this book I found myself putting it away on the shelf. For nearly a year it sat there and I didn't pick it up again until I had another reason to. The second time around I could not put the book down and took prolific amounts of notes. The third time I read it I learned even more.

This book is about self, about becoming the true you and living your life optimally. This is not a pep-rally or a psychological breakdown of "The 100 Top Tips to Boost Your Self-Esteem". The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People is all about understanding where you can (should) be taking yourself in your life. The influence, the support, the understanding, the energy that Dr. Stephen Covey discusses comes from within yourself; it is not an external influence that fades as soon as the source is gone. You create it; you live it; it becomes you and you become it. These principles are not subject to the whims of others. You create yourself, you build upon yourself and you become an effective person in your life through learning to help yourself and others. You learn how to graduate from dependence to independence and then even further on to a higher level: interdependence all by looking deeply within yourself and following seven sound principles that are laid out in a very logical, rational and emotionally-sound manner. The principles behind Dr. Covey's ideas are based on faith in self, community and God. He helps you to understand the philosophy, "Love Me for Me."

In The Seven Habits, Covey talks about the Personal Mission Statement. This is a project that you create, write, rewrite over and over until it describes the person you most want to be. Then you simply spend the rest of your life living those beliefs until you become that person. It is probably the easiest, yet most difficult thing you will ever do in your entire life. Why? Because you must devote your entire life, and energy to this task. How easy it is to become side-tracked and slide into old habits of comfort. But these old habits are the ones that you want to rewrite with new, better habits. This is a difficult road to follow. It is also, without a doubt the most rewarding activity you will ever do in your entire life. After all, the most rewarding things in life are often the most difficult.

Stephen Covey outlines the best strategies for maximum effectiveness in this great book. The fact that this book has remained a best seller for over 15 years should tell you something about the merits of the informmation that it contains.

    Highly recommended book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely a must read book
I have worked for major corporations and I have been self employed in direct sales and network marketing. Hardly a day goes by when I don't find someone who recommends and in many cases, carries The 7 Habits around with them in their briefcase.

In a world of me, me, me, me. It's great to have a noted and highly respected authority like Dr. Covey teach the concepts of "Win-Win" and "seek first to understand, then be understood."

I am also happy to see that Dr. Covey has endorsed network marketing and recommends it. easy to understand why. Network marketing is indeed the wave of the future so it makes sense that the professionals of the present and the near future will be applying Dr. Coveys techniques just as those Fortune 500 companies have been doing since the 1980's.

Great book. I highly recommend it to everyone and especially network marketers who want to significantly grow their business.

5-0 out of 5 stars It worked!
I ordered this book on a last ditch effort to help me quit picking my fingers. I've had this compulsive habit since I was 7 years old. I've tried everything and nothing has worked because I was doing it unconsciously. I couldn't stop myself when I didn't know I was doing it. This book wasn't a magic bullet. It just allowed me to tap my unconscious mind. Now I know why I was doing it (nervousness). I notice when I'm about to start doing it and I have a way to keep myself from doing it. This book guided me through exploring self-hypnosis. The tape was key because it helped me do a hypnosis session for the first time. The book explained what hypnosis is and gave several chapters on how to solve common problems. I used the chapter on how to quit smoking to help me build a plan for myself to quit picking my fingers. After 5 sessions I've totally stopped picking my fingers. I mean I haven't picked once since then! What an achievement! I can't begin to tell you how glad I am that I ordered this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Teach your mind how to control you properly.
Having grown up believing that in hypnosis you give up your free agency and self-will to demonic control, and also hypnosis just being used for silly stuff, like having you act like a monkey or chicken on stage, I was quite leery about reading this book.

Now, after having read this book my understanding of hypnosis has been completely redefined. I now understand that we all put ourselves and other people through different forms of hypnosis every day. Praising or putting down your children, solemn prayer, day dreaming, deep thought, engrossed in a movie, television show or book are forms of hypnosis that we apply to our daily lives.

Also the only person who has the power and authority to hypnotize you, is you. All hypnosis is technically self-hypnosis. A person should be careful though because like all things that seem harmless, there is always someone out there using it for no good. Hypnosis can also be used for no-good. And then so can solemn prayer, watching movies, reading books, etc., have harmful effects on your conscious and unconscious mind.

It is our unconscious mind that effects what we can or cannot accomplish. We can learn to utilize our unconscious minds stored experiences through different forms of hypnosis to achieve our goals and utilize our abilities and potentials that are already stored within us.

Understand why autosuggestion, such as a New Years Resolution, does not work.

Learn how to explore and access your unconscious mind where everything we have ever seen or experienced is accurately stored.

Throughout this book you will learn the history of hypnosis, the theories behind it, how to learn, unlearn and relearn such things as sports, self control, smoking, stress, fear, pain, and being over-weight.

The only thing that I didn't like about this book is the poor typesetting and poor sound quality of the cassette recording. Overall though, an excellent, easy to read book for anyone interested in how the mind works. And exercises on how to apply the theories to your own mind.

These authors are perhaps best known for their book entitled 'Principles of Self Hypnosis' (now out of print) which for many years was the most regularly recommended primer on this subject. This academic work completely updates the former book and adds much new research to the subject area. It is very extensive in nature and written in a style that facilitates access to both the professional and the lay person wishing to use self hypnosis for their own benefit. The book is accompanied by an excellent audiotape which clearly demonstrates many of the techniques described in the book. Whilst appearing a little expensive when compared with other self hypnosis books, this book and audiotape can definitely claim to be 'top of the pile' in quality of content, research and writing style.

Freud called dream interpretation the "royal road to the unconsious." Now, here at your fingertips is the "expressway to the unconsious.": a complete guide to the principles and practice of self hypnosis in day-to-day life. Quoting their first teacher, G. Wilson Shaffer, the Simpkins are quick to point out that "hypnosis is first and foremost an experienced and, therfore, mere intellectual theory--no matter how rational and well thought out--cannot be a subsitute for felt experience." In this highy effective text/tape duo, readers will find both the theory behind self hypnosis (and the research findings supporting it) as well as step-by-step instructions in how to achieve those felt experiences (from tingling sensations in one's limbs to life-altering memories) to "achieve one's personal best"--whether in managing pain, resolving stress, or achieving career goals. What you do with the tools presented here is up to you. 5-0 out of 5 stars Another Winner!
I have suffered most of my life with self-esteem issues that stemmed from childhood hurts, but happily, listening to this CD has allowed me to finally realize that I am perfect just the way that God made me - singularly unique and precious. I have become much more productive at work and now feel like a whole person in my romantic relationship. I never would have believed that such a measured difference could be acheived from listening to a Hypnosis CD, if I hadn't experienced the results for myself! I have used several other hypnosis discs by Janet Decker and this one certainly does not disappoint! Hip! Hip! Horray!

5-0 out of 5 stars Life changing experience!
I am amazed at the difference this CD made in my life. The suggestions on this CD are very positive, very powerful and very empowering. Going right to the source of where I consider the problem came from in the first place, years of negative, derogatory input from the people who mattered most in my life. The suggestions on the CD seem to wipe out old unfounded negative feelings, thoughts and impressions I had about myself and replaced them with positive truth and the realization that I'm as intelligent and as capable as anyone else and can do whatever I set my mind too. The interesting and mystifying thing is that it is so subtle. After listening to the CD a few times I noticed I just felt different one day and I didn't really do anything to make it happen. I used to have to put on pretense every day. Act like I felt good about myself when I didn't. Now I don't act anymore. I do feel good about myself and it is genuine. I think I need to explore hypnosis further. I need to know how hypnosis works because it seems I went to bed one night as one person and woke up the next as someone else. Very, very mystifying... A great CD!

1-0 out of 5 stars LAME!
I'm sorry, but this CD SUCKED. I was hoping to get some positive inspiration and some self-esteem power thoughts out of this, but all it was about is learning how to relax your body. I think she touches upon saying something "nice" about yourself far into it, but the whole thing is setting you up for relaxing your body. That is NOT enough to train your mind to learn how to be more confident. This CD is a total rip-off. I want my money back!

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
I strongly recommend this CD, the induction part of the hypnosis is short and effective, leaving most of the time for the suggestions, which are extremely good and effective. I feel very lucky to have found this CD, also the lack of music is a hit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Much better than expected
It is hard to say just how great this CD has been for me. I certainly did not expect the result I got. It took a few times of listening to it but the changes have really been worth the time and effort. I don't feel "beat down" anymore. I'm even sleeping better. Thanks Janet Decker! ... Read more

    Book Description

Hypnosis is a proven technique that allows people to reprogram their subconscious to change unwanted behaviors. Most books on self-hypnosis require the reader to memorize or record scripts, then put the book aside while they do their hypnosis work. But Instant Self-Hypnosis is the only self-hypnosis book that allows you to hypnotize yourself as you read, with your eyes wide open, without putting down the book.

The author's fail-proof method allows you to put yourself into a hypnotic state and then use that state to improve your life in myriad ways. And because the hypnotic state is induced while you read, you remain aware of your surroundings and can bring yourself back to normal consciousness slowly and gently, using the instructions provided. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating book!
I never thought studying hypnosis could be so easy and so fun! That's what I love about this book---it's extremely lay-person-friendly (no unexplained jargon) and it's easy to sense the author's enthusiasm for his discovery. This makes his writing so much more capable of helping the reader to achieve a state of hypnosis. It's really easy to be hypnotized and best of all, you're your own hypnotist! I was especially impressed with Mr. Blair's nightclub analogy to explain how the subconscious operates and why the other coaching techniques, Dr. Phil approaches, etc. have a lower success rate than good hypnosis can. I was hypnotized just reading all the background info in the first couple of chapters. I have trouble with stress-management and I feel so much more relaxed now. My anxiety-level has been curbed greatly after only a couple of self-sessions. Blair also teaches you how to write yourself into hypnosis and how to customize your scripts to meet your own personal goals; so, you trully do become your own hypnotherapist! He shows you how simple it is to turn this into a way to give the therapy to others. It's SO simple. Do NOT be intimidated if you know nothing about hypnosis. You will practically be an expert on the subject when you've finished reading the book. Be sure to put this one at the head of your arsenal of self-help books!

    5-0 out of 5 stars I'm Impressed
I have been searching and searching for something that would help with my weight problem - I'm 67 - almost 68 - and have dieted myself to over 300 lbs. Everytime I started another diet program, my subconscious said, been there, done that, don't think so. And I got ravenously hungry - eating a half gallon of ice cream was a fairly frequent occasion for me. I was always hungry - could eat a huge meal and be hungry again a couple hours later. Mexican food was comfort food for me. I have done hypnotherapy and every diet you can name practically. But nothing handled the problem.

After running across this book yesterday, I decided to start using it this morning, I did both the weight loss and the eating good food scripts - and so far am not hungry at all - I had a small breakfast and it took me quite a while to get through a banana for a snack. I feel more focused and once this eating problem is under total control, there are several more problems I plan to address using the scripts in the book.

I am absolutely amazed so far. I think I am finally getting a handle on my life and I am doing it without spending a fortune. Thank you, Forbes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing book...
I have been using "Hypnotize Yourself As You Read" for weight loss and it really works! I have lost 8 pounds in the first week and it was amazingly effortless. I have NO CRAVINGS for sweets or "bad foods" I can go grocery shopping or out to eat and never crave food that's bad for me. I'm not hungry until it's time to eat a meal...which I eat slowly and thoroughly enjoy. I no longer eat just to eat, or when I'm bored. I have tried everything there is to lose and this is the first time I feel that I am in control!
The book is also very helpful to anyone who needs a little help with life's problems...I will use this book until it falls apart! Buy this won't regret it!

5-0 out of 5 stars First book on hypnosis I bought... I'm glad!
This book truly catches the eye first off all. The cover explains it all. The idea of hynotizing yourself, by yourself, is mentioned in the title and information on what common problems people may have are mentioned in which hypnotism can help solve. Of course it is best if you are new to hypnotism, as I was, to read the first 40 pages or so before you jump right into the act of hypnotizing yourself. Though what you read is fasinating. Explaining the power of the mind and what a few discoveries the author made before writing this book. And the best part, obviously, is actually hypnotizing yourself. I only tried it once and already have it working for me. I recommend this book highly to anyone new who wants to hynoptize themselves, are interested in the subject, or just want to help solve their problems or reach a type of goal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Different than the other books about self-hypnosis
I have a psychology background and know a bit about hypnosis. And this idea made me say, "Now why didn't I think of that?!" Great, simple concept. Wonderful scripts on smoking cessation and making more money. There's also this great bonus at the end that teaches you how to hypnotize someone else instantly. I've been using it with my girlfriend...we're having a great time with it. The script on better sex really has had a noticable effect. This is very different from the other boring books on self-hypnosis. And you can't fall asleep while you apply it! ... Read more

    Book Description

"Why did crime in New York drop so suddenly in the mid-90s? How does an unknown novelist end up a bestselling author? Why is teenage smoking out of control, when everyone knows smoking kills? What makes TV shows like Sesame Street so good at teaching kids how to read? Why did Paul Revere succeed with his famous warning? In this brilliant and groundbreaking book, New Yorker writer Malcolm Gladwell looks at why major changes in our society so often happen suddenly and unexpectedly.Ideas, behavior, messages, and products, he argues, often spread like outbreaks of infectious disease. Just as a single sick person can start an epidemic of the flu, so too can a few fare-beaters and graffiti artists fuel a subway crime wave, or a satisfiedcustomer fill the empty tables of a new restaurant. These are social epidemics, and the moment when they take off, when they reach their critical mass, is the Tipping Point.

In The Tipping Point, Gladwell introduces us to the particular personality types who are natural pollinators of new ideas and trends, the people who create the phenomenon of word of mouth. He analyzes fashion trends, smoking, children's television, direct mail and the early days of the American Revolution for clues about making ideas infectious, and visits a religious commune, a successful high-tech company, and one of the world's greatest salesmen to show how to start and sustain social epidemics. The Tipping Point is an intellectual adventure story written with an infectious enthusiasm for the power and joy of new ideas. Most of all, it is a road map to change, with a profoundly hopeful message--that one imaginative person applying a well-placed lever can move the world." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Insights into Mass Behaviors
Despite an earlier reviewer poo-pooing this book for shallow insights, I beg to differ. This book is a fascinating and original take on what makes people behave in a certain way en masse. Tying together Paul Revere, Hush Puppies and many other very accessible ideas makes this book, that is in some ways very academic, read like a thriller. I read it in three sittings. It has an impact on several levels. One, as a marketer, it gave me insights into how word-of-mouth really works. I'll be experimenting with these concepts for years. Second, as a member of society, I gained insight into why I am pulled this way and that by trends. If you enjoyed this, you'll also enjoy the groundbreaking book by Robert Cialdini called "Influence, the Psychology of Persuasion." It makes some of the same points. Finally, it makes me think that some savvy activists will find some ways to use these principles to start societal epidemics that will ultimately have a positive effect. I believe Gladwell has introduced a concept, "the Tipping Point," that will have a wide-ranging impact on how we view the world and human behavior.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bowled me over.
This book is quite wonderful, and it doesn't surprise me at all that it's getting such solid reviews here. Gladwell writes wonderful pieces for the New Yorker (and elsewhere, no doubt), and the craft of the writing here combines with fascinating material to produce a book for the lively of mind.

What is a "tipping point"? Gladwell shows us how concepts and perceptions derived from epidemiology can provide unexpected, but highly plausible explanations for the transformation of a minor phenomenon into a major trend. Gladwell's examples are diverse, drawn from such apparently disparate worlds as policing, fashion, and medical research, but they work well to create a sense that there's a logic at play in the crazes and fads we see turn into cultural trends.

Obviously, this book would be a good read for anyone interested in forcasting consumer behaviour, and other business concerns. I read it, though, as a person interested in culture and the trends which form the fabric of our waking lives. I read it twice, in fact, because it's very well written, and because I used it to teach theories of information to university students, who also really "got" the book. I find that concepts drawn froom the book return to me in unlikely situations, and that's a true test of non-fiction.

My only complaint? It's not long enough!

3-0 out of 5 stars Esoterica
This is a fun book to read, but the dots remain uncconected.
I much prefer works that are more practical, and guide you directly to where you are going, instead of this very indirect analysis.
Some examples of this direct approach which are exceptionally well done include the CD "Voice Lessons to go" and the DVD "New Sex Now."
All of these are fun and enjoyable and will improve your life.

5-0 out of 5 stars does not disappoint
I rarely pick up a book that holds my interest all the way. This book was exceptional though and I have recommended it to many of my friends. The book discusses what causes an epidemic- how one tiny product, tv show, event, etc influences so many. I was impressed by the number of case studies and research that Gladwell did to back up his point. I really enjoyed learning about the influence Sesame Street had on the literary rate of the children who watched it, while what causes problems like teen smoking and suicide. It was a very interesting read.

1-0 out of 5 stars Tiresome and Repetitive
Tipping Point is a painful book to read, painful especially to contemplate the patchwork of fill that turns what at best is a pop magazine article into a poor excuse for a book. Gladwell stabs at any theme he can possibly use to support his by no means new theory of tipping points. He hits one, perhaps, when he covers Rudy Giuliani's results in the City of New York, buts the rest are paler attempts. His comparison of Paul Revere with Dawes is over-romantic and downright silly. There's something profoundly patronizing about his tone of writing and his lack of any kind of wit. ... Read more

    Book Description

The Power of Now is a guide to spiritual awakening from a man who is emerging as one of this generation's clearest, most inspiring teachers on the subject. Eckhart Tolle is not aligned with any particular religion but does what all the great masters have done: shows that the way, the truth, and the light already exist within each human being. There is no need to look elsewhere. At the heart of the book is Tolle's own story of early despair that culminated in a life-transforming experience of enlightenment at the age of 29. He emerged to share insights on the perils of the mind, the power of the present, and the accessibility of one's true nature. According to Tolle, "To regain awareness of Being and to abide in that state of 'feeling-realization' is enlightenment." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Listen to your heart, not the reviewers (including me)
I've noticed that some criticize Tolle for "expanding" the book or making it too long. But as Tolle himself notes, the book is written in a Q&A format where he tries to answer the same questions from different perspectives. Tolle also points out that the basic premise is not complicated, it just takes focus and practice. Others criticize Tolle for the impossible task of translating a mystical experience with words. Well, how else was he supposed to do it? Are there "mystical" media channels out there he should be communicating through?

I have read endless numbers of books on finding oneself, reaching enlightenment, and so on, and none have rung true like Tolle's book. I have given it to many friends as a gift and only one found it difficult to grasp, the rest were deeply moved. But don't listen to me or others, check it out at the library, listen to it or read it and judge for yourself. As Tolle notes, he isn't "teaching" you anything - he's reminding you what you already know. Give it a try - it may indeed change your life.

5-0 out of 5 stars A spiritual Gem--Filled with depth and perception!
I don't know where to begin with this book. I will start by saying that one of the many things that makes the Power of Now a gem of a book is how Tolle has taken the core of ancient wisdom and churned out a real masterpiece without very mystical or religious concepts.
This is definately a book for someone who is into self realization..IT IS NOT A POP PSYCHOLOGY BOOK OR A NEW AGE BOOK as some in the negative reviews have claimed. That is the problem with being on a best seller list like Tolle now is, the book is being read by people who normally wouldn't read something like this and "give it a shot cause it's kind of popular now" and are faced with talk on "Ego, trancending mind chatter, enlightenment, how the past/future are only mental creations etc." This is a book for people who are willing to take a moment to understand the premise...your true nature is beyond body, mind identification/constructs. Not in a very mystical way-in very natural way, one can even say a scientific way, the science of all religions before they became organized religions--the message of true self realization.
Of course the book takes a certain EXPERIENTIAL KNOWLEDGE. We hear over and over that we are all ONE and that our true nature is beyond the body but how many of us truly get that in an experiental no nonsense way? Very few. The Power of Now's core teachings are a deep inner path not a quick-pop book.
In conclusion, Tolle has a great ability to communicate with very deep perception and the book is nothing short of brilliant.
The premise is--Suffering is due to the mind made self, the Present helps one transend the false self. Once transended...the discovery of Timeless NOW free of mental anguish...Sorry to sound weird.
Please read this book with patience and keep a Zen like mindset to get into the tone.

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't Climb the Signpost
Tolle's book is an important one... a much needed reminder that is too easy to forget. All too often people can pass entire lifetimes 'missing the moment.' One can, like the worst type of junkie, become so comfortable with-and so used to-anxiety, worry, and procrastination that to simply experience tranquility in the present becomes an impossibility. For such people, the simple and inspirational teachings that The Power of Now details can incite a revolution in one's experience of being alive. That being said, though, this book possesses flaws and confusions that must be sifted through using a keen sense of criticism (yes, this too, is an important faculty of the healthy human being).

First of all, becoming present is a practice-not a realization. I'm not sure Tolle makes this clear. Like any 'new thing' the appreciation of the present moment can seem novel and exciting but if one doesn't make it a practice and use discipline to habitualize the practice, then one will have merely another gimmick, a spiritual toy to play with for a while and then put aside. The reason why all the schools of enlightenment require masters and students and instills its practitioners with discipline and a set of methods is because nothing in life comes all at once but must be cultivated with care over a period of time. Because of this truth, I genuinely doubt Tolle's claim that after his midnight awakening he was-all-at-once-transformed, never to require further training or practice. The experience he describes at the beginning of the book might just as well be labeled a psychotic break as a religious experience. Either way, the genuine appreciation of the moment can neither be totally 'on' nor totally 'off.' It is a variable experience that can be developed but will always remain part of the organic experience of being alive. Be wary of those who seem to show no anger, no sadness, no flaw... such people are usually very good actors and nothing more. Spend time with such people, in different types of contexts, to reveal the true human being. No unidimensional personality can exist in reality. We are always part of our context and environment and no matter our training or character can be expected to occasionally fall short of others' expectations.

A guide to enlightenment, then, should teach us that enlightenment is neither a great distance away nor too near. It is thoughtful experience revealed through action and word. I have seen car mechanics who are enlightened beings when they work on cars but atrocious when with their families. I have met novelists who convey all the wisdom in the world through a pen but seem haughty and fractured in normal human conversation. And I have met spiritual 'masters' who secretly creep away to have sex for the sixth time in a day or to check their stocks on the internet. Enlightenment is a myth, and some people treat it like a commodity to purchase or sell. To live well requires the experience of the present-often-but not all the time and in all situations.

Joseph Campbell once expressed the opinion that the type of enlightenment we have become familiar with is unique to a conception of self that was once fairly common in Asia. The type of self most moderns live by, especially we very 'special' Westerners with our love for 'Individuality' and 'Self-Expression,' excludes the possibility of such an experience. Perhaps it is time, then, we drop this idea and redefine what enlightenment should mean now-and to people like us.

Use this book as a pointer and compass, not as a map. The Buddha said it best, Be Lamps Unto Yourselves. I would add-and don't hide from the dark when it comes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Yes, Good book, but..
I was inspired to make a comment here with regard to the person with the headline:"Be wary of the Master" I think this person needs to be heard. Part of the problem with the fanaticism that grows out of great works like this is the DANGER of forgetting that the "teacher" is indeed, very human,if not flawed. It is important to know where Tolle is as far as "walking his talk". If you can't demonstrate the virtues of compassion, right action, right deeds, etc. then what is the damned point? Being "CONCIOUS" or writing a brilliant book is not enough. Putting it into your deeds, is. I'm glad that person spoke up.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best explanation of conscious existence yet...
The review titled "Be wary of the Master..." reveals more about its writer than about Tolle. It is ultimately unimportant to me what kind of person Eckhart Tolle is. His work speaks for itself.
"The Power of Now" is the most brilliant explanation of consciousness and existence I have read to date. It is stated so simply and eloquently, and effectively, that, if you settle down in a quiet space before you open the book, resist the temptation to use your intellect (to rationalize, compare and contrast), and just take in what is underlying his words, you may partake of the richest experience and deepest insightful 'aha's' you've ever gotten from a piece of writing.
And do get the book: put off getting the CD or tape until you've experienced the entire book in a quiet space. You shouldn't be multi-tasking when you read or hear his words, otherwise you will shortchange your experience. Lastly, do observe his pauses. They're placed where they are for good reason. This is the moment where you let the sense of what you've read sink in more deeply.
Then you may finally 'get' how to be present, to experience the vast and powerful "being" that underlies all our busy thoughts, awaiting our conscious awareness. And then, just maybe, we can heal this world. ... Read more

One of Gary Zukav's many gifts as a speaker and bestselling writer is his ability to present complicated metaphysical and spiritual themes in a way that is simultaneously down-to-earth and spine-tingling. How does he do it? Through story--the oldest and most powerful form of teaching the mind and touching the heart. As a frequent guest on Oprah, Zukav has also discovered that the American public is starved for grounded information on ethereal topics such as intuition, soulful relationships, and nonhuman teachers.

Soul Stories is a collection of true tales that speak to themes such as "Reincarnation," "A Higher Form of Reasoning," "Psychic Archaeology," "The New Female," and "Universal Humans." Some stories come from Zukav's personal experience, like his sister's auto accident and his mother instantly knowing that her daughter was hurt even though they were 100 miles apart. It is tempting to view these 52 tales of fate, coincidence, and sixth sense with an air of doubt. "You have to decide," Zukav warns. "That means thinking about it and, even more important, discovering what you feel about it. Eventually, you might find that what you feel about a Soul Story is more important to you than what you think about it." No matter what you feel about the individual tales, you will leave this book trusting that the best way to understand the meaning and mysteries of life is through story. --Gail Hudson ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Some good spiritual advice
In Soul Stories, Gary Zukav (author of The Dancing Wu Li Masters and Seat of the Soul) guides the reader on a spiritual journey towards greater openess and a feeling of connection with the world and one another. The stories range from personal experiences to parables. While all of them teach valuable lessons, I was not always comfortable with the way he tells them. As another reviewer pointed out, Zukav often writes as though his audience were young children. It's one thing to put a message simply and concisely, but to put things too simply can seem condescending to the reader. For example, in the section about how "new" men and women differ from "old," he goes on at great length describing how men have traditionally been protectors and providers and women have been concerned with raising children and taking care of the home. I think most people in their teens or older are aware of this and are also aware that these roles have been changing. In one story, there is a confrontation between an "old" style man and a "new" style woman (I put these in quotes partly because I'm skeptical of such neat categories); the woman wants to go back to school and pursue a more independent lifestyle, while her husband cannot understand this. This would have seemed more dramatic thirty or forty years ago than today, though there are people who still adhere to traditional roles. Zukav also describes emotionally charged workshops where people share and explore their various feelings and relationships. His style is very much in the spirit of such human potential workshops where the goal is to evolve or expand. I am somewhat skepticalof this approach, as it can give people a certain conceit about their spirituality compared to supposedly less evolved people (e.g. the comparison between old and new style men and women). I have been mainly criticizing the book, but I also found enough in it to recommend it to anyone interested in...yes, evolving and expanding their consciousness. For example, I liked a story about a man struggling through a barren desert until he finally finds a lush land with abundant food and water. A simple parable, but effective and well told. Gary Zukav writes with quite a bit of optimism about how quickly people are changing. Looking at the world, it often seems as though we aren't changing quickly enough, but I hope he is right. And following the advice in books such as this can only help.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mental confusion
These are, in the main, interesting stories, well told. That said, it is important to remind the reader that they are stories in the sense that Carlos Castaneda's stories are stories, and J. K. Rowling's stories are stories. But while readers read with the knowledge that Rowling's Harry Potter is fictitious, and that Castaneda's Yaqui mystic is at the very least wildly mythologized, many readers are not that clear about some of Zukav's material. Why is that? It's because Zukav's material is presented as though inherently plausible.

But the central fallacy around which the tales are built is that definitions and inherited concepts are presented by the author as if they were factual reality. "Soul," "God," "reincarnation," life as path, life as school, etc., are in reality simply definitional constructs that have originated and changed over the millenia as the concepts to which these definitional labels are applied have evolved. When a life is viewed as a journey from point A through B & C to D, it can be mentally back-constructed and viewed cognitively as a "path." If D can be seen as worthwhile in relation to earlier A, B and C, then the life to which this is applied can be retroconstructed to see A, B and C as a "school" for said life regarding what happened in this life at D. The book does not help the reader realize that patterns are not just found, they are often simply unconsciously postulated and constructed from elements of wishful thinking.

Thus, these are interesting stories for fictionalized story readers, especially for those of relatively low awareness of the nature of definitional constructs as cognitive virtual reality and cognitive retromapping, but Zukav's stories are certainly not what would strike careful and knowledgeable readers as being credible accounts. This difference in types of reader-awareness and degrees of clarity may be seen as you compare other reviews here.

2-0 out of 5 stars Maybe I've read too many of these books!!!
I read this book with an open mind; however, I found it getting more and more discomforted as I read each little sound-bite anecdote. I found this book to present nothing new regarding human nature or understanding. This does not discount other readers who may find useful things here, but my fear is that they won't read the truly thoughtful works of people Like Thomas Moore or James Hillman or Joseph Campbell, or a host of other true intellectual/practioners who have a profound and innovative approach to understanding the concept of soul. Each of the mini-narrative in this book deals with common issues as awareness, jealousy, fear, relationships. There are a few koan-like truisms thrown in as though they are the last word in human understanding. This might be a nice gift for a high school student or someone with no background whatsoever in addressing quasi-spiritual ideas, but any thinking, reflective adult, I would hope, is past the stage at which these obvious parables would be of much use.Apparently, Ophrah was so taken by the author she invited him for a segment on her show, and it was expanded to a full-length Christmas program.Need I say more?

2-0 out of 5 stars Sleepy Stories
I enjoyed Seat of the Soul much more than this work, due to the repetition in concepts. The stories help explain Zukav's concepts for someone that has not been exposed to much metaphysics, but a more versed person could find it to be overly worked and lacking of inspiration. There will always be a new author on the block reworking the same concepts with new fluffy words; unfortunatly, Zukav could have left this one off the public printer.Good for bedtime reading, you'll be out like a light in no time.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad
This is not a bad book. I really enjoyed "The Seat of the Soul" and "The Heart of the Soul" a lot more than this one though. I expected a bit from this book than it gave. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I am so glad I tried this CD.
I am completely surprised at how well this CD worked for me. I've been having sleep disturbances for several years now. I did not like taking sleep medication so I thought I had nothing to lose by trying hypnosis. I have spent so much money, first on over the counter medicines then on doctors and prescriptions and I figured it was worth the $... to me to try something else. I am so glad I did. I emailed Ms. Decker and asked her how to best use this CD to get the best result. She emailed me back within 24 hours and told me all suggestions to the subconscious mind need to be reinforced over and over in order to have a really powerful impact so it was best to listen to it daily, if possible, and if not then as often as possible for about 3 weeks no matter how good I was doing from the first. I started to sleep better from the first time I used it but I kept on listening to the CD like Ms. Decker said nearly everyday for 3 weeks. Each night I slept better and better until finally I sleep all night through now and I feel rested when I wake up. I don't understand how it works or why it works, and I don't know if it works for everyone but it sure worked for me. I think this CD is well worth trying if you don't sleep well. For me it was the best $... I ever spent.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Resource!
I've had this cd for a little over a week now, and I'm very impressed. I've had some significant problems with sleep over the past year, and have tried many things to help alleviate the problem: drugs, sleep tapes, homeopathy, acupuncture, etc. This cd ranks at the top of the list for helping to bring forth a deep and relaxing sleep at night. I highly recommend this product, you'll never regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars It works!
This is the first time I've tried a hypnosis CD and I am very pleased with this CD. Janet's voice is very soothing. Her suggestions on the CD put me in a state of relaxation. I fall into restful asleep very quickly with this CD playing in the background. I hope it will help you too.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Sleep I've had in Years
I've found that this CD takes me easily and quickly into what feels like a deep trance. I do then sleep very deeply that night and wake up surprisingly happy and refreshed. That's been especially nice but even better, I want to get up and get the day started... which has never, ever been true of me before. It's not a total change but if getting out of bed used to be difficult, it's now much easier. And given how much nicer that makes my mornings - it's been a huge help.
I'd recommend this CD to anyone, even someone like me who questioned whether they could go into a trance state, nevermind be affected by hypnosis. I have highly recommended this to friends - and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sleeping Like A Baby!
I had forgotten what that phrase meant until I started using this CD. I have an extremely stressful job and a disabled husband, so needless to say I find it difficult to turn my head off and relax when my very long day finally comes to an end. I have tried meditation, breathing techniques, yoga, over the counter medicines and perscription drugs to acheive the ever-elussive "good -night's-sleep" - all to no avail. I felt like I was throwing my money down a hole, and was begining to think that I was doomed to spend the rest of my life in a state of chronic physical exhaustion and mental fatigue. I have found my salvation in this little disc. Ms. Decker's voice is so soothing and yet firm enough to command consentration. The first time I used it, I felt the days stress just melt off of me and the next thing I knew it was morning! I am thrilled to report that I am sleeping better than I have in years!

    Book Description

"Most Americans do not know what their strengths are. When you ask them, they look at you with a blank stare, or they respond in terms of subject knowledge, which is the wrong answer."
    -- Peter Drucker

Unfortunately, most of us have little sense of our talents and strengths. Instead, guided by our parents, our teachers, our managers and psychology's fascination with pathology, we become experts in our weaknesses and spend our lives trying to repair these flaws, while our strengths lie dormant and neglected.

At the heart of Now, Discover Your Strengths, is the Internet-based StrengthsFinder® Profile, the product of a 25-year, multimillion dollar effort to identify the most prevalent human strengths. The program introduces 34 dominant "themes" with thousands of possible combinations, and reveals how they can best be translated into personal and career success.

This audiobook contains a unique identification number that allows you access to the StrengthsFinder® Profile on the Internet. This Web-based interview analyzes your instinctive reactions and immediately presents you with your five most powerful themes. Once you know which themes you lead with, you can leverage them for powerful results for personal development, for management success, and for the success of the organization. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mentoring, not hand-holding
I've read quite a few of these kinds of books starting way back when with "What Color is Your Parachute," through "The Acorn Principle" and "Please Understand Me." This has been a long-term process of discovering my interests, talents, abilities, skills, knowledge, preferences, and potential - always with the intention of finding my true calling in life.

But this book is not just another addition to that list; this is a superior method for focusing in on very specific talents and strengths and clarifying your own thinking about your life choices. The assessment and categories of strengths are more straightforward than taking the Meyers-Briggs or other similar tests. The book confirms some of what I already knew, but completely clarified the concept of natural talent combined with skills and knowledge creating the strengths that one can use throughout their life.

People have complained in other reviews that some of the book is "fluff" or that it doesn't tell you what job to go get. This is only true for people who want one 250-page book to answer some of the greatest of life's questions. I greatly appreciate that the authors give simple, straightforward examples and their own theories quickly and pointedly. They leave it up to ME to make decisions based on that information.

If you are prepared to do the work over the course of time and use this book as a mentor (not a nanny who tells you what to do) you will gain great insight into yourself and your path.

4-0 out of 5 stars Management, Not Psychology
As a manager, perhaps one of our greatest challenges is juggling the uniqueness of our employees. It's not our job to fix them, rather it's our job to facilitate their success.

I agree with what "First, Break All the Rules" said, in that, we should seek to build the strengths of our employees rather than fix their weaknesses. But, I walked away from that book saying "ok, that was great, but how do you determine a strength or talent?"

"Now, Discover your Strengths" gives practical insights on the strengths and inate talents of people. I was impressed by this and also by the real life examples of people displaying the stregth being discussed. The disheartening thing about the test is that it only gives your top 5 strengths when it's likely that 8-10 strenths are outwardly shown (in my opinion).

Unlike other readers, I DID NOT see this and the online test as meant to be a "personality" test. Quite the contrary. I believe it accurately measures what it says it does: STRENGTHS.

I'm looking forward to applying this information to the organizations I work with.

Since my question after reading the first book (how do you determine someone's strenghts?) was answered with "Now Discover your Strenthgs", I'm guessing that if there is a third book, it will discuss what to do with your strengths now that they're discovered.

4-0 out of 5 stars beware of used copies
An integral part of this book is the online profile. Each copy of this book comes with a unique PIN number inside the book jacket. If you buy a used copy, the PIN number may be already used, and thus will not allow you to use the online profile. However, the book is still interesting if you enjoy reading through the signature themes and guessing what your profile would have uncovered. It is also fun to read each theme and think of people you know who come to mind, and consider ways in which you can support their strengths.

I would give this book 5 stars if an unlimited number of people could use the online profile with each book purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars A motivating speaker
I saw Marcus Buckingham speak at the SHRM Conference last week in New Orleans and it was an excellent complement to the book. Very motivating and enlightening as is the book. I also purchased the Emotional Intelligence Quickbook which I saw recommended on this page and that title is excellent as well.

Excellent read, Clifton gives clarity and tools for success. I enjoyed the online inner strength tests very much and found it fascinating. While Clifton gives us the the key to unlocking our abilities and the confidence to pursue the path, it is up to us to take the journey.
I have taken this book and its philosophies into my personal life as well, filling everyday.
Everyone has different things that can free them further.

I started singing because I had always secretly found that to be exhilerating. I bought singing lessons on CD off of Amazon,
"Voice lessons To Go" by Vaccarino- fantastic!

I also purchased and carefully followed the "New Sex Now" video by Arte with my husband- it was mind blowing for us.

Just those two examples show how much I have removed my own personal fear in life. The kind that held me back and locked my strengths in. You know the strength is there in any crisis, why not manifest them into your eveyday? How powerful is that? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very effective
I have a small collection of relaxation/sleep tapes and CDs and this one is probably my favorite. I agree with one reviewer about the speaker's English accent, but one very quickly habituates to the accent and actually, it becomes very pleasant and part of the whole relaxing experience. This CD helps me get to deep very readily, as promised. Very good!

4-0 out of 5 stars No more waiting to fall asleep!
I am extremely happy with this CD. I have used various relaxation tapes and now CDs and they sometimes worked. I can count on Deep Sleep Every Night working, as long as I stay focused on the CD and don't let my mind wander. I've never heard the end, since I'm sawing logs by then! I've ordered a couple more of Harrold's tapes to see if they work as well!

4-0 out of 5 stars Seems to be working for me
You need to wear headphones to get the full effect of this hypnotherapy CD. The liner notes warn you to be careful about wrapping the headphone leads around your neck because you may fall asleep before the CD ends. This is exactly what happened to me, so I stopped using headphones.

I'm missing out on the "hypnotic echoed affirmations" without the headphones, but at least I won't accidentally strangle myself in my sleep.

One thing that might keep you awake initially is the hypnotherapist Glenn Harrold's incredible Cockney accent. Maybe I've watched "My Fair Lady" one too many times, but when I initially started listening to "Deep Sleep Every Night," I kept expecting Henry Higgins to cut in with, "My dear man, the rain in Spain stays mainly on...etc."

An annoying intrusion (not Henry Higgins!) that might wake you up after you've fallen asleep is the beginning of the second track, "Lucid Dreams for Problem Solving." I believe track two was originally a separate tape, and Mr. Harrold reverts back to his normal speaking voice when the track begins. He's jolted me awake a couple of times, but I've always gone back to sleep as he reverts to his sonorous, repetitive murmurings.

The total CD running time is forty-three minutes, and I haven't stayed away through the whole thing, yet. There's nothing too mysterious about it: Mr. Harrold starts out with controlled breathing exercises, then onto suggestions about relaxing various parts of the body from head to toes, then a soothing, repetitious murmur about the conscious mind versus the unconscious mind. This is where I always fall asleep--until the second track begins.

If you have problems falling asleep, you might want to give this CD a try. It seems to be working for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE BEST SLEEP HYPNOSIS CD MADE!!!!!! IT WORKS.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!Wow!Wow!
Okay, I know everyone has different problems going to sleep but I have to say that this has blown my mind completely. My particular problem sleeping is that i will litterally lay in bed for hours tossing and turing and my mind WILL NOT shut down. It seem that night time is the time that I've alway reved up, or decided that I can't stand my closet being unorganized one second longer so I've been to several doctor and exausted the medicene avilible. They work for a while then don't anymore. With this CD I just get sleepy and go to sleep. The first night that I had it i was so nervous and sckeptical that i figited though most of it and then decided that it wasn't working, turned it off, and got up.. but amazingly when i got up i felt the way i usually feel when i've been sleeping (kinda drowsy) so i went back and laid down and thirty mins later i was asleep (usually takes me 2 or 3 hours) the next night i chilled out and just layed there and listened when it was over i turned off the recorder and put up the headphones and turned over and went to sleep. Recently it's been working so well that I don't even make it though the whole thing and wake up with the headphones laying next to me. It Works! If your very skeptical like me, and you don't have success the first night stick with it a couple of times before you give up.. it really does get the job done.. i don't know anything about Hypnosis other than it sounded neat so i don't have a professional opinion about it but i can honestly say after i just gave in and gave it a real shot it's been the best sleep aid i've ever had. ...
