Workouts for Dummies by Tamilee Webb, whose buffed body is the star of the Buns of Steel workout video series and frequent TV appearances, is a fine source of motivation, information, and specific workout programs. Even if you've never exercised, don't worry--the book starts with topics as basic as choosing shoes and warming up. Then it covers everything you'll need to create an effective exercise program, starting with an explanation of body types (so you don't think you'll end up looking like Cindy Crawford if you don't already) and the workouts that suit your body type. The book gives directions for stretches, aerobic exercises, muscle conditioning (using weights, furniture, exercise bands, and bars), and workouts for different locations (home, office, gym), all with illustrations. This is a lively, unintimidating workout guide, a good companion if you're just starting out. (A little self-serving, though: one chapter is devoted to "Tamilee's Top Ten Workout Videos.")

Confused by all the For Dummies exercise books? If you want a more strenuous strength-training program using free weights and gym machines, try Weight Training for Dummies--it explains how and illustrates exercises. I wanted a book that gives clear guidelines on how to work out effectively, but this book disappointed me. There's a lot of unnecessary stuff on workout theory, and the chapters on exercises are poorly written.

I bought this thinking it would suggest aerobics moves. You know, one can only watch Richard "sweatin'" so many times. Plus, I like to aerobicize to my own music - CD's from the late 60's or even space music. Tamilee's book did not help with that.

Where it helped was with my "tonin'" days, which alternate with "sweatin'" days. This book provides for all the major muscle groups, and provides some cautions to help you avoid hurting yourself! No rocket science here, but hey - this is a "dummies" book.

Tamilee guides you through figuring out what your body type is and what sports might be suited for you.

Where she excels, though is on working out different parts of the body, like specific toning exercises for your arms or legs, which are very effective, especially if you use weights.

She explains the correct form and considering this is a book, it's quite well done. All in all, a good book if you're getting started.

I love this book. This is a book for people who are basically brand new to exercising and healthy living, in a sense. The book goes through basic workouts to get anyone started on the road to health. I am an exercise sports science major with a minor in nutrition, and I have reccommended this book, as well as, Nutrition for Dummies, Weight Training for Dummies and Fitness for Dummies, to many of my personal training clients. I love the whole line of books. I love the fact that someone thought to write books that people with no background in the subject area could use, and get something great out of the reading, and especially understand it. My clients have even reccommended the books to other friends and family. I even get referals off of the books, when they are reccommmended. Good job guys. ... Read more

Simple, easy to follow, this book outlines some great at-home workouts. I was especially impressed with the "chair" exercises, important for me at this moment since I have a broken foot.

I not only would recommend it to all, I will buy many copies and give them as gifts to friends I know need exercise that is easy and fun to do.

I got this book to extend my rubber resistance training. It's the only book on the topic I found at Amazon at the time. I was interested in the book but when it came and I saw the 2 small blue rubber bands attached, I was happy that it was an inclusive package. You didn't have to go out to buy the exercise equipment now that you had the book. I tried out much of the exercises and they do feel good. However, the rubber band feels harsh in my hand after a while and I have to do the exercises with my exercise gloves so I don't burn or chafe...
