5-0 out of 5 stars Welcomed Surprise
During a recent air travel "nightmare," I had a long layover after a missed flight, and took the occasion to read H.J. Russel's Camera Shy. With grace and wit, Russel tells the story of a dominant female and her submissive boyfriend. Their sexuality is played out against the larger background of their individual personalities and histories, and the novel deals with a part of the woman's history returning to haunt her, with potentially deadly consequences. The book contains mild dominant/submissive sex scenes which never approach violence. The book also contains many asides about the humorous aspects of power-exchange sexual play, such as not being able to find a critical implement at a critical moment, and its characters are always honest, decent people...except, of course, for the villain. I would recommend Camera Shy to anyone interested in the realities of alternative sexualities, or to someone who just wants a good book to read while waiting for a flight. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for Cynics
This novel lacks the sophistication of many of Barbara Michaels' other works, but it offers a good read just the same. You have to get into the gothic spirit of the thing to enjoy it. Sure, it's silly and the wolves aren't that scary - and there are limited possibilities as to who the villain could turn out to be. But if you're a fan of that "windswept moor" kind of suspense novel, complete with carriages, heiresses, castles, and crumbling ruins by moonlight, then you will probably enjoy it. It's certainly not a bad specimen of the genre, and I found it fun to read. But if you're looking for a suspense novel like the author's Stitches in Time or Houses of Stone, you won't find it here. Sons of the Wolf just doesn't have that kind of intellectual breadth and it won't absorb you the same way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
I have read this book numerous times, and each time it gets better. I even bought a hardcover copy because my paperback version is dog-eared and bent in several places because of how many times I have read it. The heroine in this book is especially likeable as is the hero. Even the villian is somewhat likeable because of the talent of the author. This book is in my opinion Barbara Michaels finest work and I have read all her books. Other books I would recommend by this author are "Here I Stay" and "Vanish with the Rose". Also by her other pseudonym Elizabeth Peters, I would recommend the Vicky Bliss mysteries.

5-0 out of 5 stars good book
I loved the entire story. The characters, the mystery, and the settling give just makes you want to read it over and over again and still be intrigue. When I saw the book for the first time, I looked at its cover first because it seemed promising along with the title that there was a mystery behind it so I bought it and I love. Trust me, if you are a fan of Barbara Michaels and you have not read this yet then read it. It is worth your time trust me.

5-0 out of 5 stars The wolf within Mrs. Michaels
Sons of the Wolf has to be Barbara Michaels greatest novel yet. This novel is full of myster and drama.

The novel begins with two sisters Harriet and Ada who have just become orphaned by their grandmother, and are forced to live with a distant cousin. In it they discover two bothers who are total oppostes and who have secrets themselves. Yet the main question circulating throughout the novel is, who is the true wolf trying to devour the innocent sheep like sisters. If you love mystery and dramam I highly recommend you read this novel.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic gothic
This is one of Michaels's finest, in my opinion, tied with _Black Rainbow_ for my favorite among her gothics. If you prefer her contemporary romantic suspense novels like _The Dancing Floor_, this is probably not for you. If, however, you love _Jane Eyre_ and books in the true gothic tradition--a sympathetic, adventurous heroine; a sinister villain; a bleak nineteenth-century setting; and increasing suspense and danger--this is a must-read. Michaels also offers her trademark enhancements of the formula in the shape of an engaging, humorous, and genuinely likeable hero (no brooding churl!) and welcome touches of humor. I find the heroine especially enjoyable, unlike Michaels's more recent heroines, who are more abrasive, defensive, and unsympathetic. This is perfect rainy-day or winter reading. If you listen, you can hear the howling of the wolves... ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Barf bag, please.
The author seems to have invented literary autofellatio. He supposedly lives a wild and crazy lifestyle. Women, drugs, danger, etc, and uses this book as a medium to brag about his trumped-up tales. Visit his website for more vomitous braggartry. If the author were any more self-centered, he would just learn real autofellatio and give up on women. Or maybe he already had that rib removed.

5-0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise
Someone recommended this book to me as a joke, but I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised. On a superficial level, it's a gross-out book, plain and simple. Shock value on every page, the author trying to best himself with more and more sex and blood ... but if you actually bother to read the book, the real text, you'll find it's an incredibly insightful story with observations on everything from science to society. I think true intellectuals will love it for the author's observations and analysis, gore-lovers will love it for the blood and guts, and probably everyone else will hate it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining but Unoriginal
Even if the events are true, which seems doubtful, this book is a weak version of Ellis' American Psycho. The author steals from a wide variety of authors including Vonnegut and Ellis. He even steals from himself; several passages and scenes are repeated over and over.
I did, however, find the author's blantant and not very subtle attempts to shock and manipulate the reader some-what entertaining.
I would recommend this book, but only after reading American Psycho.

1-0 out of 5 stars How come I'm not in it!?
This is a highly entertaining read with many correctly spelled words, and many of Morgan's friends and "acquaintances" get their "props" here, but I'm a little miffed at my own absence.

I met Morgan when we were both doing the SoCal bath house circuit, and even back then this guy had some interesting stories to tell, even in the heat of our mad man-passion. He had so many interesting stories to tell, tales of how he wanted to share his exploits with the world, his wishes (and mine) for him to get some enhancement surgery, and ribald encounters with entire flocks of sheep.

For any doubters that Morgan is also a consumate killer, check out his website where he describes how he poisoned a bum with spiked wine, complete with a picture of a hobo prone on the sidewalk. I mean, where do you ever see something like that? Case closed! The site also contains pictures of several NAKED WOMEN, one of which is described as a HIGH SCHOOL person, so I hope the AUTHORITIES never serve him and cause SERIOUS LITIGATION, because that would be BAD.

I'm sure he'll manage. He's the rough type. I remember that fairly clearly.

So anyway, as you can see by my review and the first three, all of which use the same exact grammar and style as each other and all of which are reprinted verbatim on other review websites (I am sure this is a result of their obsessive-compulsive behavior and not MORGAN HIMSELF BEING A GIMP) that this is very well worth the read, and the short span of time it takes and simplistic language makes it especially useful for PERVERTS JUST LEARNING TO READ OR RETARDED MONKEYS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING ON THEIR LEVEL.

As you can possibly tell I'm not too big into girl-swapping, general perversion, pathological lying, and self-aggrandizing. I'm going back for another game of Parcheesi. My only warm memory of this entire sordid affair is Morgan himself and his TEENY TINY TWO INCHES OF TERROR (our pet name for him) as he strode off into the sunset, myself a conquest thrown to the roadside. Now that too has been taken from me in printed form, and I have only my memories to keep me company. Damn, man.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous read...
A fabulous and wildly exciting read by a mind boggling and intense author. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to think outside the box and enjoys dark humor, for it is certainly not a book for the weak minded individual. ... Read more

Book Description

The Melting Cross is an erotic psychospiritual thriller. Before Jack Sargent picks up a mysterious melted cross from the floor of a fellow psychiatric patient's room, he is just your average middle-aged American man who suffers a nervous breakdown. Although curious, he's not the type of man you would expect to find rummaging through back-alleys for scraps of food, saying prayers to Guardian Angels, or taking trips via hypnosis to a Satanic Orgy in a Medieval cave. But, Jack manages to do all these things and more in The Melting Cross. After finding the cross, Jack begins to have spiritual visions and disturbing flashbacks. And he meets people whom he later discovers are all connected to a past life in 16th Century France - including Nancy, the love of his life who is also the wife of a wealthy businessman. When Jack is confronted with the task of battling the demonic powers of a Satanic Medieval Priest, he not only has to call upon God's Angels, but he also has to fight his own demons and voyeuristic yearnings.... ... 4-0 out of 5 stars An erotic thrill ride......
Melting cross left me questioning my beliefs. Never before has a novel challenged my faith or ignited me to explore the possibilities of reincarnation and soul mates. The brutal fight between good versus evil and sane versus insane mixed with the impressive sexual suspense was superb. Even months after this incredible read, I am enthralled with the idea and concepts with-in its pages. Melting Cross was complex and original and extremely thought-provoking. I highly recommend this book for those not afraid to take a walk on the other side.......

1-0 out of 5 stars Gimme a break
I'm not the world's most literary genius, but I'm pretty sure I could have gotten my cat to write this in his sleep. It was silly, badly constructed and frankly immature. I rarely find a book I am so angered by having purchased. Skip it. If you want a good read or a mystery/thriller based on psychology with religious undertones- keep looking. This isn't it.This book makes Steven King's works classical literature (and mind you I like him). AGGGH in closing. Save your money and self respect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Captivating, ExcitingA must Read!
It is with great pleasure that I am submitting one of the first reviews of Jeremy McCloud's"The Melting Cross."

I was not able to setthe book down from the get-go.It's exciting, enthralling and it certainlySizzzzzzles! The book is not only well written but one can easilyidentify with the main character Jack Sargent. Our eroticJack findshimself at a very low level in his life, winding up in a mental facility inChicago trying desperately to piece together the missing pieces of hislife.

The book delves deeply into a level of spirituality that mostpeople yearn to achieve. It touches realistic issues that occur in oureveryday lives.Jeremy McCloudapproaches this spirituality with acertain profound wisdom and manages to add a level of sexuality that iscandidly surprising.

I would strongly recommend this novel for anyone whowants to escape to another mysterious level of understanding. The way theauthor develops the storyline and connects it to past lives makes for avery interesting read.

I hope you all it enjoy it as much as I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing! Powerful! Erotic!
The Melting Cross is definitely for broad-minded mature readers who want a book that challenges the view that sex and spirituality belong underseparate titles. Jeremy McCloud's masterful storytelling talent hasproduced a very stimulating and erotic plot with realistic andwell-developed characters.

When Jack Sargent is found by the coastguardon the shores of Lake Michigan, he is desolate, tired and cold. And to makematters worse, Jack is unable to talk. After being placed in a Chicagohospital, he soon finds himself in the company of bizarre charactersreminiscent of "Who Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest." There's adifference, though. Each character that Jack meets has been known by him ina previous life 300 years before: all participants in a Satanic Orgy set ina Medieval Cave. Why Jack has been chosen to unravel this mystery and tofind the Satanic Priest behind it all is a mission that kept this readerturning the pages from cover to cover in record speed.

This is one ofthe best psychospiritual thrillers I've ever read. It made me experiencethe full spectrum of emotions. And, by the way, the sex scenes are sopowerful and realistic, I found myself being transported back in timeimagining myself to be Nancy.....anyway, I don't want to give away theplot. I definitely recommend this book to anyone with an open mind and anadventurous spirit! ... Read more

Book Description

The New Paltz Outlaws is the story of Lance Bangor, a talented but troubled pitcher that catches the eye of the New York Yankees and is sent to play for the most notorious minor league team in baseball, the New Paltz Outlaws. The Outlaws are a team full of talented but disturbed baseball players, from the first baseman with split personalities (one plays for the Negro Leagues, the other is an aspiring musician), a trio of Canadian criminals under town arrest, a barefooted outfielder that lives amongst animals in the forest, etc.

When the present leader is taken off to jail, Lance becomes the new leader of the Outlaws and takes them to new heights of popularity and debauchery.Eventually becoming too big for the small town, Lance joins the New York Yankees but folds under big league pressure and finds himself banned from the game for life.

Too embarrassed to return to New Paltz, Lance travels from the Caribbean to Hollywood and goes through a variety of professions from being a stuntman for an egotistical soap opera star to hitting rock bottom and becoming an exotic dancer and actor in amateur adult films.

Finally garnering up the courage to return home, Lance falls in with a maniacal traveling stand-up comedian obsessed with world domination and finally gets back to New Paltz, where he must overcome his fears and immaturity and reunite with his former Outlaw teammates. When Major League Baseball goes on strike, the Outlaws once again become a major attraction that eventually leads to a one game showdown with the New York Yankees.

The message the book promotes is "Even when you have nothing, you still have your friends" and is a story of one man's journey to hell, back and beyond.I hope you will laugh and cry and I hope you have as much fun reading it as I did writing it.

4-0 out of 5 stars New Paltz
I am a student at SUNY New Paltz, which is the setting of this book. I found this novel to be very interesting and humorous. It is amazing how much truth is in this book and how many similarities there are between the town of New Paltz he portarys and the reality of the actual town. I honestly would recomond this book to anyone who wants to read a funny book about a small town.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Lance Bangor Saga Begins
i picked up this book by the reccommedation of a friend and i must say i was impressed with the efforts of this first time writer. at first i thought i was going to be a book about baseball but as it turns out its a book about friendship and a naive kid that travels the world looking for anything that resembles the town he loves so much. his friends remind me of my friends and there are times where you love the character and times where you hate. but all and all you can't wait til he gets back to his hometown. i like how the author makes references to the odyssey by homer as he is definitely inspired by greek mythology and oddly enough andrew dice clay.

in the end, i wont ruin it for you, you can see that lance bangor's life has come full circle and i love how in the end he comes to understand everything about whats important in life.

believe me after you read this book, you will want to have a barbque with all of your friends from college

1-0 out of 5 stars This book is an insult to my intelligence
As someone who has spent a great deal of time in New Paltz I can safely say this is the most inaccurate and ridiculous depiction of a wonderful history filled town. "A barefoot outfielder that lives amongst the forest animals"??? You have got to be kidding me!! Who does this appeal to? I have read Bazooka Joe Comics that are more interesting. The only thing I would recommend this book for is to get your campfire started "amongst the forest animals".

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent, funny book!
This book centers around the exploits of Lance Bangor, a minor league pitcher/actor/exotic dancer. He plays for The New Paltz Outlaws, a team of misfits (like a schitzophrenic first baseman) and criminals(a catcher charged with attempted murder). It follows his career, and his side tracking into differant paths after he is banished from the game

All in all, this book is truly enjoyable. The characters, although a little underdeveloped at times, will keep you laughing throughout. The zany situations that Lance and his friends get into make this a very easy read. It flows nicely, with the exception of sometimes being a little repetitve and preachy about what is wrong with organized sports.

If you are looking for a book that will give you a good laugh, then this one is perfect. Aside for some grammatical errors, it is well written, with a fresh outlook by first time author Farrel Kaye.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good baseball book, or anyone who could use a few good laughs.

5-0 out of 5 stars LET THE BOYS FROM NEW PALTZ SHOW YOU A GOOD TIME.
I stumbled across The New Platz Outlaws searching for interesting books on baseball and all I can say is what a great time I had reading it. This book is just plain fun. The characters are just like friends you've known your whole life and could always count on. The Outlaws are a crazy bunch from an Ego driven hotshot pitcher to a first baseman with a hilarious split personality and a Catcher with a massive temper (who happens to be my personal favorite). You'll have a great time reading about the rise and fall of Lance Bangor(the pitcher)and his many escapades from major league pitcher to stripper to stuntman back to pitcher. This first time author really has a knack for story telling and a quick wit that'll leave you in stitches. Do yourself a favor and give this book a shot, You won't be able to put it down. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Pro-Wasteful
Looking for complex characters set in a backdrop of guns, drugs, and greed? If so, then Wasteful is the book for you. This modern American tale follows the lives of nieve teenagers, a greedy housewife, sex crazed drug pushers, and a ruthless mob family. Fate brings the dozen or so characters together in a number of bloody confrontations. I enjoyed the novel and I know you will as well!

5-0 out of 5 stars Raw energy and a good story
I really enjoyed the style Mr. Schmitt used in this book. Each character is introduced and their story is built until they cross paths with another character. The independent story lines all tie-in together well as the book nears the end of the telling. In addition to the every increasing pace, the energy also builds through the story until the story races to conclusion. Mr. Schmitt shows how far people can go to achieve a goal or help someone else when the cost is not an issue.
Wasteful left me wanting more from this author...

4-0 out of 5 stars Stimulating

4-0 out of 5 stars Give it a chance
Nice work from a promising new writer. This is definelty not your average book that reads as if it were written by a computer rather than on one. It is a little unpolished and would probably not pass muster with editors obsessed with the cookie-cutter fiction books churned out by the mainstream press. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed. I look forward to more work from Mr. Schmitt in the future. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fiery fiction!
Whoever said "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!" must have known Angela from GIVE HIM BACK TO GOD. She makes such convincing swings between the role of dutiful wife and jealous, vengeful vixen that I can't stand her, but in some strange way I sympathize with her (to a point). The fact that this book is based on a true story makes it all the more intriguing. The disturbing plot is bolstered by the everyday family problems that seem to cause and fuel each character's actions. It makes you wonder, could Angela and Vinnie be our next-door neighbors? Let's hope not!

5-0 out of 5 stars Truth is stranger than fiction......
Terri DuLong - Author of "Lost Souls of the Witches' Castle."
Well written story based on true events. The author captured the psyche of the main characters. The obsession of love, although sometimes difficult to understand, is the major theme and takes the reader along to the gruesome ending. This was a book I simply couldn't put down......had to find out what the outcome would be.

5-0 out of 5 stars Addresses Contraversial Issues
Wow, what an extremely educational, inspirational and contraversial page turner. I literally couldn't sleep at night without finishing it to then end. It addresses the very contraversial issue of marraige and the catholic church which has little to do with celebacy and more to do with finance. Since the time of Christ, religious leaders married, had mistresses and at times multiple offspring which lead to large amounts of funds leaving the Vatican. Maybe it is time for a change whereby individuals, including women clergy would not have the delema of choosing faith or family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kept me up all night!
At first I loved Angela and felt sorry for her... and when I began to see the evil developing, I hated her. I remembered the true murder case in New Port Richey and was fascinated with Ms. Harrington's account of the story. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves fascinating characters and an intriguing plot.

This book is a Must!!! ... Read more

Book Description

Kendra has had vivid dreams since she could remember, but this latest makes the others pale. A dream of an extraordinary sexual experience, rich with emotion, now haunts her. She becomes obsessed with finding her midnight lover again, but her attempts to invoke the dream are fruitless. She soon turns to darker, more arcane methods. Xeldric is whom she unknowingly seeks. Xeldric, created by God to weave the dreams of mortals. For Him, the liaison provided a sense of euphoria, relieving His infinite years of growing isolation. Weaver takes place between two planes; the ordinary world inhabited by mortals, and a fantastical realm of gods and deities. Kendra’s search follows a dark path that gradually consumes her sanity, and Xeldric’s obsession with her drives Him to act against God’s ordinances, which may ultimately cost Him more than He can fathom. Xeldric must choose a course, driven by a maddening lust and sometimes finding along the way that the “Order” of things may not be as He’d once believed, not as God would have Him to believe; indeed, that God seems to have been misleading Him since the moment of His creation. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!! Page-turner. Forces reconsideration of reality
A brooding god falls into sexual obsession with a mortal, and the result of His sin awakens Him to the true nature of "god", which is rather painful, even comical, at times. The mortal woman's descent into madness is believable, and I felt myself relating to her plight, even wanting her to fall deeper into the spiral. Things are not what they seem at times, and this novel throws a new perception on the law & order of the universe, while providing an interesting, lustful tale. ... Read more
