This law school casebook contains questions and hypotheticals on the complex law of evidence. It includes an essay to familiarize students with common courtroom objections, and reviews the Supreme Court's latest Confrontation Clause case, Lilly v. Virginia, (1999). The work contains an expanded section on scientific evidence, polygraph cases, expert testimony, and field sobriety tests. 3-0 out of 5 stars Difficult to understand
Almost no notes or comments on compiled materials in the book. It is difficult to find keys to understand materials from this book without assistance from teachers or study guides. The materials themselves are instructive and interesting. The book becomes voluminous due to the appended rules and their notes. If one has a separate rule book, he/she has to spend more for the unnecessary appendix attached to this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 1L: YOU NEED THIS BOOK. IT IS YOUR CIV PRO BIBLE!
This text is incrediblely useful. I remember being nervous the first day I walked into this class because this is the one class I had no idea what it was about. This book does an excellent job of really helping you to overcome that feeling. In addition, this is a great resource if you have bad professors. Luckily, I had good professors and this book, this book made a real difference in my final grade (I had a very, very high grade). One of the advantages it has over your normal text is that it is written in plain English. The Federal Rules of Civ Pro are at times difficult to decode and this book does a nice job of breaking it down. In addition, it also provides graphs and visuals that really help to breakup the difficult concepts. Finally, and I think this is the best part of the series, the book is focused on teaching through examples. If you go through the whole book and really study the examples, you should be fine for the exam. This book is a great tool. I highly recommend this. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. You need this book if you are going to start your first year soon.

4-0 out of 5 stars Most of what they say is true
Having just finished my civ pro course and final exam (though no grade yet as I write this), I can say I found Glannon's supplement helpful -- especially for the most complicated questions like joinder, jurisdiction, and the intersections of the two. As another reviewer has noted, this isn't a secret weapon, since chances are almost everyone else in your class will have it. (Our prof even made it recommended supplemental reading.) Like all authors, Glannon has his own quirks, and some points he chooses to dwell on may or may not align with what your professor thinks is important. Glannon's somewhat cutesy writing style may get on your nerves after a while, but this book is still almost surely better written than your textbook. You can usually knock off each chapter in an hour or less.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for first year law students
If not for this book, I would have been lost in Civil Procedure during my first year of law school. If you are starting law school, get this book. Anything I didn't quite understand in class, this book explained. The examples are invaluable in studying for exams.

4-0 out of 5 stars firstyearlaw
While I don't advocate that this book will give you an A on your civ pro exam, it can help you understand in more depth what's going on in that class. It gives wonderful examples and explanations of specific civ pro problems that can help link up the different areas of the subject. If you're struggling with civ pro, I suggest buying this book. If you take the time to read it carefully, it trully can help.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the basics
My Civ Pro professor has been teaching for 40 years, wrote one of the most popular textbooks on the subject, and was utterly incomprehensible. I relied on this book to help me understand the reading and lectures as class went along, and to do some last-minute learning before exams. Most of my friends did not use any study aids, for some reason, and I found that I was one of the few who actually felt that they comprehended the class material and the exam exam. This book definitely doesn't go into the detail of a real course, but it was great for grasping the basics, so that one is able to follow the deeper interpretation of a class discussion. If nothing else, this book was a great confidence-builder. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Criminal Investigators this is a must have in your library!
This book is a must have for those interested in criminal investigations. It is up with the current technological advances and guides you through various information essential to criminal investigations. This book can be used by both public and private sector. As a police officer for the City of Philadelphia it is a must-read for those aspiring to be a detective in regard to the promotional exams. I did like the free InfoTrac College edition and hope that they can be included in subsequent editions, I found it very helpful in terms of research material. The book even covered many-real life examples and Terrorist-related challenges that all involved in law enforecement should be knowledgeable of. I would recommend this book to other officers, and even to lawyers. There is a study guide, ISBN # 0-534-61525-2, order them both today.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is The Study Guide Only - Not the Text!
If you're thinking of buying, Make sure you get the 6th Edition hard cover text that goes with it. I was badly fooled after looking at several books with the same title.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reads with ease. Topical. Relevant. Comprehensive.
I read this book as part of a university level criminal investigations class for criminal justice professionals, the book being the personal choice of my professor whom himself had over 25 years federal and local law enforcement experience as an investigator. The book read absolutely seemlessly. Chapters were brimming with topical, relevant facts. And the chapters went into sufficient detail for the book to serve as either a solid basis for the criminal justice novice or as a reference for the more advanced professional who may not have the on-the-job exposure to all aspects of criminal investigation. While covering strictly forensic topics it did not cross the line from providing information relevant to an on-scene investigator to that which would only be relevant to a forensic technician, always keeping the material and topics relevant to patrol and investigative law enforcement officers, not forensic technicians. This is not a forensics textbook. This is an investigations handbook. Total hands on. Makes you think. Aids in planning. If anything, the book was brimming from cover to cover to the point that it could very well have gone on in volume after volume. A good starting point. ... Read more

I used Criminal Law by Gardner and Anderson as my text when I taught an undergrad Criminal Law class. I found it overly simplistic, even for that level, and left my students with too many loose ends. The case excerpts used are drastically edited, sometimes only a sentence, which does not help demonstrate the proposition the cases supposedly stand for. It seemed that the authors also spent an inordinate amount of text on relatively unimportant topics. I also found the instructor's edition to be unhelpful. ... Read more

I am a college professor who just finished teaching ORGANIZED CRIME to twenty college juniors and seniors. I selected Abadinsky's book as the text because it is carefully and thoughtfully "choreographed." The information provided flows in a sensible and clearly written design. Some texts appear to be designed for Rhodes Scholars and are virtually impossible to read. This is not the case with this great book! I was an officer in the field for 11 years, I could not velieve the things I missed over the years. I am starting a new career so I ordered the material and loved the book. I am currently working on my certification for CST and recommend this book even to the field officer.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you really want to learn, this is the book for you!
I teach crime scene techniques to police officers and this book is a mainstay for that instruction. This is the first text book a new CSI should read. If you are an old hand in crime scene you will still learn from Barry Fisher. This is not an old dry text book. Each chapter has real cases for reference. I found the book to be very interesting and it is required reading for all new CSIs in my agency (Tarrant Co. Sheriff's Office, Ft. Worth Texas). This is also one of the required reading texts for the level one crime scene certification examination of the International Association for Identification.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dave's Serial Killer Home Page Book Review....
This book is one of the most comprehensive and thoroughly written books of it's nature. An excellent clinical analysis of the crime scene investigation from start to finish. I HIGHLY recommend this book; the real life case studies (Night Stalker, Hillside Stranglers, to name a few) keep it above the rest in a class of it's own.... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Criminology
The book was in great quality. It took a while to arrive (order placed on Jan. 6 and arrived on Jan. 15). The seller was very quick in responding to my email.

3-0 out of 5 stars Uninformed
This item is the study guide and not the book. The information is misleading.

2-0 out of 5 stars Criminology 7th ed Paperback
"Criminology 7th ed Paperback" is not correct. The book is a study guide to Siegel's book. That information is not mentioned in the description.

3-0 out of 5 stars Difficult book to read for any length of time
This book contains a wealth of knowledge, but yet is very "broken-reading". By that, I mean that you can't read this book for an extended period of time before having to break. It seems that due to the complexity of the subject, the author keeps "jumping back and forth" on subjects, causing very difficult reading. ... Read more
