4-0 out of 5 stars A student's opinion
This textbook is actually one that is recommended for the Nutrition course at my university. I found it very useful and informative for all aspects of the course. Information was displayed in a clear and colourful manner, which made taking it all a lot easier. The study questions at the end of each section came in very handy when revising for exams. In addition the lists of resources relating to each topic were helpful, enabling you to look at other sources for further reading. I found the 'highlights' in particular useful as they covered particular points (such as eating disorders or osteoporosis) in depth and related it to the different aspects of nutrition.
Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone with a more than cursory interest in nutritional science as it provides a great of information on the subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for introductory mental health nursing
We used this in my psych/mental health theory class. I really liked this book. It's written on a level that was easy enough to follow but still gave me a strong base to draw from in clinical. Also, because it had little vignettes throughout each chapter, I found that it didn't bore me to death like nursing textbooks often do. I also like how It included great info on both older meds (i.e. the ones that they will still be testing on for NCLEX) as well as newer meds that I actually saw on the floor.

The only thing that could have been better, was the index. When using this text as a reference I occasionally had a tough time locating information that I knew was in there, but couldn't seem to locate using the index. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow...really helped
I worked for a couple of months taking tests with this software and just wrote the NCLEX exam and passed easily. The question are very, very similar to what you see in the actually exam. I can't recommend this enough.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good study tool....
I used this software to study for the NCLEX this year and I passed. The questions were written in easy to understand english and included a colored key word that you could click on, giving you a clue as to what the question was asking. I purchased it based on the recommendation of one of my NCLEX review instructors and she was right! I recommend it to all graduate nurses. Good Luck!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must have book for nursing students!
I am a nursing student who is weak on taking tests. I heard how great the NCLEX 2000 was from students who bought the program and passed the NCLEX. Therefore, I decided to buy the program to help with my class. My tests have improved greatly. The program is broken down into different topics to test yourself and it provides rationals for the answers chosen. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding Book!
"Information Technology Control and Audit" is an outstanding book! It provides a step by step of IS auditing process and tremendous amount of up to date information on IT control as well as audit related issues. This book provides information starting from the importance of control and auditability, audit role in Computer Information System, the use of Computer-Assisted Audit Tools and Techniques in audit, and the complexities of CIS operations and control issues. The appendixes of this book are also valuable. We can find audit cases that are related to real life situation, professional standards applying to IT, and samples of audit program on them. This book is really worth to read. If you can only keep one book with you, this book is the one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Do you want to explore IT auditing?
The book "Information Technology Control and Audit" is a good reference not only for the beginners, but also for professionals in Information Systems auditing field. All aspects concerning Information Systems auditing are completely covered in the book, including the most current issues in the Information Systems auditing field such as security and privacy of Information Systems. Other aspects of Information Systems auditing are well laid out, starting from the importance of control and auditability, the development process, application risks and controls, the complexities of CIS operations, and other emerging issues on Information Systems auditing. On the appendix, there are cases to challenge our mind to think about real life situation. Therefore, I strongly recommend this book for those individuals who look for current issues and guidelines on Information Systems auditing field.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book For Audit and Control
I will take CISA on coming Saturday, in fact, this is my reference material, I found that those materials are very comprehensive and it quotes some practical cases and examples to illustrate the concept. Meanwhile, I found that some sample CISA questions are obtained from there, that's reason I persist to complete it.

In addition, the most important point is that it provides some useful appendix like Sample Audit Program and Audit Cases Excercises, it is readily helpful.

It do helps me to enrich myself in MIS techniques and review what I have experienced in the past once I have adopted an audit and control mindset.

The 2nd edition is released and you could refer it as below:

5-0 out of 5 stars Book Review

Overall, two thumbs up for those who want to know what auditing is all about. Highly recommended.

1-0 out of 5 stars Essentials of Health Care Finance
I bought the book of Essentials of Health Care Finance, it was delivered on time, however, some papers insided the book are very dirty, I can see the brown oily figure prints. I wish that I can exchange the book ...

4-0 out of 5 stars Troubling Guide to Alien Territory
This books offers a broad coverage of health care topics for a non-financial person. It is most deeply flawed for its inability to communicate clearly to a lay person. Essentially it is a vocabulary primer of important financial principles and concepts. It requires abstract thinking and the ability to follow mathematical models.

This reader studied Cleverly's text as a requirement for a healthcare finance class. The text was frustrating as this reader attempted to "know" everything about healthcare finances; however, this is probably not the intent of the book. It does present a road into the foreign land of finances. It demands respect for another set of data and another language for interpreting that data. One does not master this data set at one pass, however.

Nevertheless, this reader did gain some new financial information. At the risk of being simplistic, but communicative; a listing of some of the concepts learned follows:

1. There are many users of financial information.

2. Financial information can guide the formation of programs.

3. Financial management is essential for successful healthcare organizations.

4. Various qualities of health care organization types.

5. How health care organizations make up for discouting and bad debt and capitated payments.

6. General principles of accounting and why they are important. Also that these principles still need to be explained, to be consistent, and to be clarified.

7. Overview of four main types of financial statements with a brief explanation of vaious line items.

8. That financial planning includes considering inflation before it happens, and for equipment etc. to break and wear out before it breaks or wears out.

9. That financial information can be better understood by comparing financial ratios of different line items and trends over time. There are national benchmarking ratios available and Cleverly gives some and tells how to get more.

10. That financial planning should be an orderly process in an organization.

11. There are different types of costs. Some stay the same, some are overhead types. Some are direct, some are hidden. Some can be controlled, some cannot.

12. Figuring out prices is a very complex process in healthcare. It is based on costs and payers. It must also include indirect costs and costs of future problems.

13. There is still stuff to learn . . . And this reader is still no expert.

Finally, after this MSN course and this text, this reader is more conversant with the financial landscape. It holds interest and it is understandable, after all.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for beginners
I have finished about 5 different chapters for a Masters degree course I am taking. This book is not for beginners! I am an RN and have been working in business for 10 years. The author assumes that you have had basic accounting and the terminology is unfamiliar. There are very few examples given so it is hard to take the information and see how it is really used. I have had to buy another book just so that I could understand this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mr. Cleverley is the guru of healthcare finance
This book represents the foundation on which all healthcare organizations should examine their financial strength and management. While not for beginners, it provides a comprehensive overview of reporting and benchmarks that prove invaluable during the budgeting process and for financial control.

1-0 out of 5 stars Difficult to read for beginners
I can not give a completer review as I am still reading this book. I will say the majority of my friends reading this book at the same time as I am are having a difficult time following and understanding the principles discussed. I think it is just not as basic as it could have started to give the beginner a better foundation. Also a glossary of terms would have been a tremendous help. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best medical dictionary.
Dorland's and Stedman's are the two premier medical dictionaries. Any physician or other person who requires frequent reference to medical definitions should probably own both (I do). Both books have occasional errors; each book has terms that the other lacks; and each book has some definitions that are superior to the those in the other. However, if you purchase only one, I recommend Dorland's. In my opinion, Dorland's has definitions for more terms, better definitions and fewer errors.

3-0 out of 5 stars Dorland's: a big disappointment
As a medical textbook author, I felt a need to add Dorland's to my increasing collection of medical dictionaries, so I ordered a copy from Now that I have used it for a couple of weeks, I can remember why I chose Stedman's back when my budget was more limited and I compared the two dictionaries with an eye to buying just one of them. I am repeatedly disappointed when I look up terms in Dorland's. Pronunciations are often lacking (e.g., for the cranial foramina and skeletal muscles), the illustrations are meager and inferior to Stedman's, and many terms are missing. Dorland's doesn't even define first-, second-, and third-degree burns, for example, and the levator labii superioris muscle and levator labii superioris alaeque nasi are completely missing from both the body of the dictionary and the appendix of muscle tables. Such omissions reflect either inexcusable carelessness or inexplicable editorial caprice. A professional writer or physician should have Dorland's on hand as a backup source. I find it useful for corroborating some facts and getting alternative meanings of words. But I still go to Stedman's as my first resort; it does a far better job. For a student or professional person with budget for just one good medical dictionary, I recommend Stedman's or the more economical but very good Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary.

5-0 out of 5 stars The 30th edition of Dorland's is a real delight.
I'm not in a position to criticize anyone who prefers Mosby's or Stedman's dictionaries; however I have used all three and found the 30th ed. of Dorland's to be my personal favorite.

1. Anyone who uses books regularly knows the importance of a dictionary's binding and printing. Dorland's has a beautiful layout, easy-to-read font, and subtle and effective illustrations. The paper is top quality, and few books these days are so well bound. The book stays open at any page and when shut feels like a brick. The binding doesn't flex and the pages don't sag.

2. I am not a specialist, but I haven't found any word from a medical textbook that wasn't easy to locate and very well defined. The quality of the illustrations is really striking--particularly for anatomical terms. I find an excess of pictures and photographs distracting in a dictionary, and Dorland's are always well-chosen and relevant.

3. The CD-ROM/registration code is a nice plus. I can't comment on the PDA feature, but the access to the internet version of Dorland's is an incredible time saver if one happens to be working at the computer.

I love this dictionary. If I had time I'd read it cover to cover. The only downside is the size. There's definitely a place for Taber's or some other compact dictionary for travel, etc.

P.S.-- Thanks to Ken Saladin for his excellent critical review. The editors at Dorland's must have been listening too, since the 30th edition has all the terms he listed as missing (and hopefully others as well!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have Reference
This dictionary is a must have reference for anybody working in a health profession or related field. I've been using it since I began medical school, and there have been extremely few occasions when a word that I don't know or need to spell has not been listed. It's thorough, concise, and easy to use. Highly reccomended for beginners and experts alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dorland's - Keystone for transcription!
If you are a medical transcriptionist or just a family looking for ONE good medical journal to keep in your house (that is IF you have at least a nursing or transcription background) the Dorland's is your book! While all the other books go out of date every year to year and a half, the Dorland's is the Standard that DOESN'T! Buy it and see why even though they update the Dorland's every few years, even doctors keep their old Dorland's from medical school for years and years without updating! It's the best around! I'm a nurse and transcriptionist and I should know!!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Moore's Anatomy text is a standard; rightfully so
I am a medical student at Texas A&M USHSC COM. Moore's is an excellent text for basic anatomy. They have included excellent drawings and the content is complete. Added bonuses to the text include insightful clinical correlation and appropriate embryological try-ins. The text appears wordy and most medical students will try to use a review book in its stead. This would be a mistake. Students who read Moore will retain more anatomy all the way into clinicals and will be ahead of their peers who did not. Overall this is a very fine text: best used in conjunction with Netter's Atlas of Human Anatomy and Langman's Medical Embryology. *I will mention here, in fact, that the embryo text by Moore (The Developing Human: Clinically Oriented Embryology) does not meet the same high standard and is wrought with errors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rave review for Moore anatomy book
I thoroughly enjoyed studying anatomy with the Moore's book. The illustrations are great--I especially found the individual drawings of the leg and arm muscles helpful, and the 3-D drawings of the pelvic region helped me to better visualize this complex area. I was able to study most of the time from Moore and only had to use the Color Atlas of Anatomy as a reference.

The text was clearly written and very detailed. At times, it was more detailed than my first year anatomy class, but I was able to skip or skim these sections. I don't think I ever found Moore to be lacking in information.

I found the boxes highlighting attachments, function, or distribution for nerves, vessels, and muscles to be very helpful. They proved to be a quick reference.

Finally, the blue boxes with clinical information made anatomy so much more interesting. I learned many relevant facts and applied, clinical anatomy.

3-0 out of 5 stars just too clincal
In fact it's usefull, mainly for a clinical aproach of anatomy, based on surface anatomy and changes in structure originated by injuries. however when performing dissection, that just does not help, the descriptive anatomy, is just to slim, and does not really contributes to understand the three dimensional structure of the human body. However for a quick reference could be an option. Personally prefer the testut-jacob topographic anatomy

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Pre-medical Buy!!!
I thought this book was amazing!! It was my first medical school textbook. I flipped through the pages, glassy-eyed, realizing that this was what I had been working for!

Unfortunately, 2 years later, I ahve still not had the time to do more than use it as a reference book! I am hoping to read the entire thing sometime before retirement! Don't get me wrong, it is a great book, and I highly recommend it for medical students. However, looking back, I wish I had bought it BEFORE I came to medical school. Having the time to read the entire book, and learn the material would have been an incredible asset! Premedical students often wonder what they could be doing to prepare themselves for medical school. Buying this book and reading it would be high on my recommendation list!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, excellent reference
This book is quite thorough for anatomy and although very wordy, I think it covers a lot of anatomical information that every med student should know. I used this book as a reference for learning the facts in my anatomy classes. I also found the following to be an excellent source:
Spinal Anatomy Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers

The second book had similar type questions to my anatomy exams in med school. My advice is to get both books. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth Every Penny
The person who thinks the price of this book is insanity is obviously not a medical professional. Compared to the usual price of a medical text with color illustrations, its a steal.

This outstanding atlas belongs in every office that provides healthcare to children. I've used it continuously since the first edition came out when I was in pediatric residency training a dozen years ago.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deserves 6 stars
I can say, without any hesitation, that this is the ONE book that EVERY professional that cares for children should have at his or her disposal. Drs. Zitelli and Davis have produced yet another incredible version of this book, which illustrates almost every important physical finding in pediatrics. This is an indispensible resource that I find myself using constantly, both as a reference and as a guide for parents, who often find the illustrations of diseases helpful in understanding their child's problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for medical residents/MDs
If you are in the medical profession and looking for a great pediatrics reference atlas, this is it. The photos are incredibly helpful in showing common and less common ailments, and after spending some time studying the atlas at random, I have later been able to make diagnoses because I had seen something similar in this atlas. Extremely user-friendly, and fascinating just to browse. Less useful if you're looking for a specific book on dermatology as that comprises just a portion of this book. This was the top book on my "wish list" when I started looking for medical books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Basic & excellent histology - reviewed by Marcelo Antunes
This book presents all basic tissues followed by descriptions of all human body systems. Microscopic anatomy and physiology are well balanced throughtout the textbook. The brazilian authors, Junqueira & Carneiro, used a simple, readable language along with very good illustrations and photos (including a colored atlas) to produce this book: the result is a text in which the student will find not only precise informations but a textbook of Histology simple enough to read, to study, to learn, and to review. Perhaps, more clinical comments and/or Pathology relating topics should be included in the next edition.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Cd-Room is great but...
The CD- room is user friendly and thats good when you have to study a lot and need something easy .. But The figures in the book never had the zoom or the Microscopy resolution with every slide in the book. And well Is important to know that kid of information specialy if you are interested in microscopy

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Coverage of The Topic
I purchased this book with the intention on self education rather than for a course. I have found this book to be nothing short of outstanding. There is a lot of good information and it is easy for a beginner to pick it up and understand the content. The layout is very user friendly and the pictures actually make it rather enjoyable to learn.

There are many different tools that the book utilizes. There are cadaver photos, photomicrographs, histology-based art, orientation diagrams, concept statements, and other overview portions to make learning different and unique. I really enjoyed how there is lifetime development, aging, and exercise notes beside many areas to help the reader get a more complete understanding of the subject. The CD can act as a study guide. It contains about 30 questions for each chapter to make self review that much easier.

I have been looking for an anatomy and physiology text that is basic, because my foundation is limited, but also complete. I believe I have found that with this book. I actually enjoy where the anatomy is blended with the physiology. I don't know if this would be appropriate for a course, because I've never taken one and don't know the standardm but for self learning this is of the best that I have seen.

I'd highly recommend this text to those who are new to this field of study because of its easiness to use and completeness of information. I've seen some others that do have more information but are more difficult for a novice to use.

2-0 out of 5 stars good for anatomy, but go elsewhere for physiology
As a medical student, a good anatomy and physiology text book is key to my education. At the start of 1st year, when I knew little about the subject, this book was great as it explained everything well with nice diagrams.

However, there are two main disadvantages of this book:
1. Anatomy, physiology, histology, cell biology, biochemistry, pathology are all found mixed together in this book. While some people like this, i think it just makes it more difficult to learn as you are never sure where one topic ends and the other begins.

2. Although good at the start of first year, I quickly found that this book didnt offer nearly enough detail needed for a degree course - especially about physiology, biochemistry etc.

There is a third disadvantage, in that this book was actually taken off our reading list because apparently there are some mistakes in the physiology sections (not many, only one or two, but our university felt that it couldnt recommend it to us as a text any longer).

This is a good anatomy book, but go elsewhere for other subjects.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, bad seller
As a medical student I am always looking for a fair deal on textbooks so I turned to amazon. I found Tortora's A&P text from Kinson Hung, a third party seller through amazon, for $30 less than our bookstore. What I did not know was that the book was shipped from the UK and marked not for sale in the US. The book arrived damaged and it cost me $35 to return the book to England, which is where the package said to return the book if necessary. After inquiring about reimbursement for shipping the seller was only willing to cover $5 of the $35 after several email disputes. I purchased the book from our bookstore because my A&P class began and it cost me $35 extra for a valuable lesson that I felt obligated to share. While I would purchase new books again from amazon, I will never purchase from third party sellers and will be sure to share my costly experience with each of my colleagues. It is unfortunate that some sellers such as Kinson Hung give others a bad name. In this day of impersonal internet stores; buyers beware.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Anatomy and Physio text
For a new student of anatomy and physiology, this text is incredible. It's got a wealth of material, is easy to use and understand (without being simplistic), and does an excellent job integrating the principles of physiology in with the basic anatomy. It even has some small clinical asides that are both interesting and relevant. I used this book for all of my undergrad work, and have kept it as a valuable reference for my med school anatomy. I also picked up and use a copy of Moore's "Clinically Oriented Anatomy", which is also excellent, yet much more advanced/detailed....for a quick reference I find that I always check Tortora/Grabowski first, and go to a deeper text only if what I need isn't covered in sufficient depth, which rarely happens. This is an outstanding textbook for A&P.

5-0 out of 5 stars BUY BUY without hesitation
best package -
book is thorough and explains all aspects there. it contains a glossary and new terminology is explained after every part of body and system exploration.
the attached atlas - shows all parts of the skeleton. it is handy - you can drag it with you anywhere while studying for exams. atlas has also references to book. shame it has only the skeleton and all body systems.
the book has two cd-roms attached - one in fron cover - let's you prepare sample exams in order to prepare you to passing the exams.
the other cd-rom - is the foundations - first cd in a series of some. book contains only the first - the foundations part. it has animation, pivtures and interactive explanations and also a glossary part. so you can postpon buying a dictionary for the beginning until you have some knowledge and know what dictionary will be best for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Introductory book
Very thorough treatment of the subject from well rounded, expert authors. Text assumes no previous knowledge, and is quite lengthy because of its comprehensive nature. I have used it many times as a reference text after taking a course in which it was required.

Also this text is an example of a beautiful job of "book making". The text has many color plates -- and a high quality printing job. ... Read more
