4-0 out of 5 stars Great educational book
I actually work in Central Sterile Processing. I found this book very useful with the information of surgical procedures, anotomy charts , surgical instruments. Plus it is very clear on its format, easy to understand and follow. This book will answer many questions that students going for surgical technology need or simple just like me, a person who works with surgical instruments on the daily basis.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't spend the money
This text is horable, there is info that is wrong. I am ST student . I would buy Alexdars it's the best book around.

5-0 out of 5 stars great
I bought this book based on comments from other buyers and the book is great. In fact my teacher also purchased this book and it's so much better than our school text book. I like how in depth this book goes and the variety of surgical procedures it has.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This is an excellent book if you are a surgical technology student. I bought this book in addition to my required book for school becuase it was so much better than the required book. It is very descriptive and has lots of helpful pictures. The AST has done a wondeful job with this text book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book of information for the Surgical Technologist student
This book is full of information that is helpful. I am in my second term of taking a Surgical Technology course. We just start the real meat of the course... from patient position, drapes, and starting in a couple of weeks gi surgery. This book has it all and the instruments used in the major and minor tray. We have now the Alexander's which is good for the breakdown of different surgerical procedures but when it comes to the Surgical Tech's role there is not much. I'm glad that the AST has finally written a book. It will come handy now and throughout my career as a Surgical Tech. Kudos to AST...well done! ... Read more

Anatomy and Physiology 6th edition was designed to help students develop a solid, basic understanding of anatomy and physiology without an encyclopedic presentation of detail.Great care has been taken to select important concepts and to carefully describe the anatomy of cells, organs, and organ systems. The basic recipe that has been followed for six editions of this text is to combine clear and accurate descriptions of anatomy with precise explanations of how structures function and examples of how they work together to maintain life.To emphasize the concepts of anatomy and physiology, the authors provide explanations of how the systems respond to aging, changes in physical activity, and disease, with a special focus on homeostasis and the regulatory mechanisms that maintain it.Timely and interesting examples demonstrate the application of knowledge in a clinical context. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect overview book for medicine students
This book is strongly recommended in the education for medical students in the University of Lund. That's why I read it. It's perfect as a startup book for your pre-clin medical studies. It's not deep enough in the physiology part (although anatomy and especially histology is very good) but the integrated approach is really terrific and it makes you understand in a whole new way. If you want to become a good doctor, you should absolutely buy this book, or borrow it a least in your library. The first integrated anatomy & physiology book I've read that's deep enough for medical students. Good work Seeley.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Seeley makes the complex simple
I had the pleasure of not only getting to use this text in my A&P class but I was taught by Dr. Seeley at Idaho State University. Great text with great explinations. I am still using it as a resource in Physician Assistant training.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Basics of Anatomy and Physiology
I am sure that people who have read this book will agree that this product is the means of excellent basic Anatomy and Physiology. I have found figures and data tables very clear and easily understandable. Excellent Summaries at the end of each chapter beautifies this product. Clinical facts given from time to time are as interesting and knowledgeable as "Develop Your Reasoning Skills" Problems. This book deserve a chance from every Anatomy student. I conratulate the authors and highly recommend this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Text Book
As one of the many professional reviewers for this text, I thought I'd take a minute to write a review for amazon.com. This book is a great text resource for the college level Anatomy and Physiology classes. It has excellent illustrations, web sites, charts, figures, and tables. But, more than that...it is readable. Too many times we have texts in classes that are not readable, this one is! It is easy to use and the chapters are clearly worded and illustrated. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless
I'm in this field and I think this is one of the worst textbooks I've ever come across.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great start.......
I have a BS in Audiology and am going back for my Au.D -- and this book is excellent in bringing me back up to speed on the materials I haven't touched in nearly 10 years. It is concise (definitely not wordy) and hits all the basics, starting from the history of hearing checks to today's detailed technological miracles of testing. Could have a bit more of the anatomy, but other than that, it really is a great start for those wanting to enter the field of Audiology.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book delivers its title
As an intro book, I found it extremely useful and packed with necessary information. Whoever said there was too much information to be found in this book is completely off the mark, although, this book is probably best suited to those who are pursuing a career in this field. The CD-ROM could have been more fully developed...

1-0 out of 5 stars Too much inofrmation
I am a budding audiologist, and I can tell you that using this book was a nightmare. It is not designed for the future clinician, and even though my entire class and I tried again and again to pick out the information we needed (that was relevant to what we were learning), we were still confused. This book is better suited for a person going into research...a lot of that information is unnecessary for someone working in a clinic. It is also poorly organized and overpriced.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best introduction to Audiology you'll find.
This book is one I refer to again and again and again. Not too dry, very informative, accurate, and helpful tables and diagrams.

A must (or at least a should) for anyone interested in Audiology. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book - But it could use a "cosmetic" update
Good subject coverage, knowledgeable author, and plenty of uncluttered figures makes this book very worthwhile. The only thing missing from this excellent book is an update. Although this is the third edition (1998), almost all of the equipment photographs are from the early-to-mid 1970's. An extensive and broad Suggested Reading section follows most chapters but again far far too many references are to early 1970's books and manuals. An update could earn this book a 5+ rating. ... All I can say is GET THIS BOOK! I wish I had it last semester, but it saved my life for anatomy at the tail end of last semester, and is carrying me through anatomy 2 and the rest of nursing school.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have for any medical student.
I'm a nursing student, and I use this book all of the time. Keep it next to you when you study, there are going to be tons of words that you don't know in your studies. Don't be the student that knows the answer but doesn't know what it means.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mosby's Dictionary
A very handy reference book for anyone in the medical profession. It allows you to find information quickly and answers basic questions about diagnoses, signs and symptoms and medical terms. It is written in clear and concise language. It has colorful and descriptive pictures. I wish I had this in nursing school years ago!! Recently, I've used it as an RN in Home Healthcare practice and as a coding/compliance auditor when reviewing documentation. Overall, it has saved me a lot of time and allowed me to look up details that I didn't know easily. I keep it with me as part of my essential books.

Book Description

In this revised and expanded second edition of Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning, now with over 300 color photographs, leading exercise science professionals explore the scientific principles, concepts, and theories of strength training and conditioning as well as their practical applications to athletic performance.

Students, coaches, strength and conditioning specialists, personal trainers, athletic trainers, and other sport science professionals will find state-of-the-art, comprehensive information on structure and function of body systems, training adaptations, testing and evaluation, exercise techniques, program design (aerobic and anaerobic) and training facility organization and administration.

Edited by Thomas R. Baechle and Roger W. Earle, Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning, Second Edition, is an excellent text for students preparing for careers in strength training and conditioning. It is the most comprehensive reference available for strength and conditioning professionals and sports medicine specialists. For people preparing to take the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist examination, it is the primary preparation resource. Those preparing to take the NSCA Certified Personal Trainer examination will also find it to be a valuable resource. The NSCA Certification Commission, the certifying body of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, has developed this text.

Each of the book’s 26 chapters provides an overview of an important aspect of strength and conditioning and includes chapter objectives, application boxes, key points, key terms, study questions, and questions requiring practical application of key concepts.

In Section 1 of Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning, Second Edition, experts in exercise physiology, biochemistry, anatomy, biomechanics, endocrinology, sports nutrition, and sport psychology discuss the principles of their respective areas of expertise and how they apply in designing safe, effective strength and conditioning programs.

Section 2 discusses the selection, administration, scoring, and the interpretation of testing results. Section 3 provides information regarding the correction and execution of stretching, warm-up, and resistance training exercises.

Section 4 applies information from the first three sections to the design of effective strength training and conditioning programs, both aerobic and anaerobic. The three parts of Section 4 address anaerobic exercise prescription, aerobic endurance exercise prescription, and periodization and rehabilitation. The anaerobic prescription section provides guidelines for resistance and plyometric training as well as for speed, agility, and speed endurance programs. Step-by-step guidelines are given for designing strength and conditioning programs, and application boxes illustrate how each variable applies to athletes with different training goals. A unique feature of this edition is the use of scenarios to illustrate how the guidelines presented for each of the program design variables are applied to attain the different training scores.

Section 5 addresses facility design, scheduling, policies and procedures, maintenance, and risk management concerns. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This is the Bible of physical conditioning
This book is a must have for anyone serious about improving their athletic performance. Filled with no-nonsense information for everything from strength training to aerobic conditioning to nutrition to biomechanics. This book is very technical and the information is very daunting. You must have a background in exercise science or sports medicine to fully comprehend everything. A big drawback to the book is the descriptions of exercise technique. The illustrations are sloppy and there are some outdated exercises featured that could be potentially dangerous to many athletes. This book is only five years old but the exercise science field changes fast and an updated version would probably make this book five stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
What a great text ! Here is a deep yet clearly/visually presented text on physical training. I've read a number of
strength-training books, but most are dominated by the
body-building mentality. This book will make you think
like a coach and help you understand sport-specific
training.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book to start for scientifically inclined people
First what this book is NOT:
If you are in a big hurry to start exercise or if you do not like the thorough scientific approach to bodybuilding, go for other books. Also this book does not give the exercises (just very few basic ones).

Finally what this book is for:
The book is intended for training schools; it gives only the scientifically proven facts, and gives these facts clearly and is very well organized.

I give it 5 stars because it is exactly what it says it is (very honest approach). The good thing is that bodybuilding world is full of dirt (wrong or suspicious information is everywhere), so this book would clear the mess in the non-educated person's mind and give the most precious information - the PROVEN ESSENTIAL information. And by proven I do not mean proven by Joe Amateur who tried that on himself only - as usually is the case, but SCIENTIFICALY proven. That is the biggest advantage of this book.

Unfortunately, this book cannot guard you from all frauds in the field of bodybuilding because the field is too complex and no book can cover everything. If you start with this book, then if you buy some books on exercising, then exercise regularly as your (new) way of living, than think a lot about your training, and maybe some other things...., you will enjoy the most benefits of good health and strong body. A lot of ifs, I know, but every knowledge is hard to grasp.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must read for the physical conditioning specialist
This is a high level scientific book. Before reading it you should be familiar with knowledge of human anatomy and exercise physiology - undergraduate level.
If you want to read about everything you need to know about physical conditioning in just one book this is what you were looking for.
I've expected some more information on the athletic training subject, but you can not hope to find everything the exercise science has to offer in a 650 pages book. However the book respects its title ofering you "the essentials".
I also admire the author's objectivity about some athletic nutritive supplements - it is telling you that you shouldn't waste your money on many of them.
Because it is not written by a single author it makes you look back and forth and sometimes repeats some information.
Overall is a complete and reliable resource of scientific knowledge. I go back to it anytime I think I need to remember something.

1-0 out of 5 stars Tricked by five star reviews
I purchased this book mainly because of the positive remarks I read here on Amazon. The reviews are helpful in guiding my purchase most of the time but this time I got burned. There are some very important things that I have to clear up.

1. This book is NOT organized well. Similar pieces of information that would make more sense in the same section or chapter are many chapters apart. I spend a great deal of time flipping between chapters linking one fact to another trying to piece together underlying principles or purposes behind similar functionality, AND angrily wondering why so many similar sections were haphazardly scattered throughout the text.
2. The writing is DRY. I am a scientist, and I hate having to plow through technical, monotonous, fact-driven, unispired lectures. Scientific writing does not have to cause headaches or blurry vision. I'm not looking for a text that romances me with an ambiance of literary magic. I just want something worded in a way that is lucid, meaningful, and to the point ("Understanding Nutrition" is an excellent example of intelligent scientific writing that is also very readable). This text in sharp contrast is choppy, cumbersome, and aggravating.
3. "However" I am so sick of seeing this word thanks to this text. However shows up in the strangest places. Over and over again. It is very distracting to have to constantly stumble across this word while trying to make sense of the rest of the drivel surrounding it.

I am sure this book is a wealth of valuable information. It is just not worth it for me to spend the extra time and energy mining the text for that information. There are other books that cover the same material just in a logical order and worded in a more conversational -- less clinical -- way.

My last piece of advice is to do what I didnt do: check out the example pages. They wont convey the weak organization because the Table of Contents actually looks kinda organized but its deceptive. They will at least clue you in to writing style, but keep in mind that it only gets worse as the book goes along.
Compare it to the style in the example pages for a very similar book "Physiology of Sport and Exercise". ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A&L 5th Edition Very Disappointing!
I purchased this review to help prepare for the ARRT Reinstatement exam following my return to the field, and though I felt that it covered the core content well I was extremely disappointed that so many of the questions, both in the book and on the CD-ROM, had incorrect answers. The expanation of the answers even explained HOW the *correct* answer was incorrect!! Maybe the editors should have taken a little more time! I became very frustrated with this and gave it up for a (more expensive and much more worth it) Kettering Review. Would never recommend this review... especially to new grads taking the ARRT for the first time!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Buy it for the CD-ROM.
I just took the registry exam in April of 2004. Honestly, I didn't use this book all that much. There are so many typos that it is hard to read and some of them change the meaning of the questions. Some of the questions contradict each other. Some say to use gonadal shielding on all exams on all patients - even pelvis routines. Others will say the right answer is to only use it when the gonads are within a certain distance from the primary beam or when shielding won't interfere with imaging the pertinent anatomy. That makes it difficult to study. I did use the CD-ROM that was included. It helped me to know how I would do on the actual exam. For instance, it helped me to know that I needed to slow down and read the whole question.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mary
Just took the registry in May 2004. This study guide was of very little use. The questions on the real registry are structured totally different than the way the book presents the material. Very little positioning questions or anatomy on the real registry. Only about 40% of the registry questions are covered in this book. Keep your textbooks and save your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Text- 60% of test questions were word for word
I was a little apprehensive about taking the computerized exam, but after studying out the the PREP text and taking the exams in this book, i felt confident. However, when i took the test, i realized that i had seen the majority of questions from the practice tests. I knew the answers before i finished reading the questions. I passed the registry easily. On the other hand, there are several versions of the computer test and other class members of mine received far different questions. All and all the book gave a great feel for the quality and level of difficulty of test questions. HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED.

1-0 out of 5 stars DISAPPOINTED--4TH ED.
Our program has used this review book for 3 editions and liked it. Our students who began using the new 4th ed. complained that there were NO references to Bontrager in the anatomy and positioning sections. We use Bontrager as our primary textbook and the elimination of this major radiography text as a reference is disappointing and puzzling. Our students are also encouraged to buy Merrill's and the majority do. The students use the 9th ed of Merrill's and the refs are for the 8th ed. Merrill's has been out for over a year. The majority of refs were for a new book by Cornuelle. How are students suppose to find information in a text that is only in the library and one that is not a major textbook in use at this time (at least we know of nobody who uses it)? The author has done a major disservice to radiography students. As a result, we will not use this text any longer. ... Read more

Book Description

Advice for New Faculty Members: Nihil Nimus is a unique and essential guide to the start of a successful academic career. As its title suggests (nothing in excess), it advocates moderation in ways of working, based on the single-most reliable difference between new faculty who thrive and those who struggle. By following its practical, easy-to-use rules, novice faculty can learn to teach with the highest levels of student approval, involvement, and comprehension, with only modest preparation times and a greater reliance on spontaneity and student participation. Similarly, new faculty can use its rule-based practices to write with ease, increasing productivity, creativity, and publishability through brief, daily sessions of focused and relaxed work. And they can socialize more successfully by learning about often-misunderstood aspects of academic culture, including mentoring. Each rule in Advice for New Faculty Members has been tested on hundreds of new faculty and proven effective over the long run -- even in attaining permanent appointment. It is the first guidebook to move beyond anecdotes and surmises for its directives, based on the author's extensive experience and solid research in the areas of staff and faculty development. For new teachers. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great advice but quite repetitive
The tips are great, but skim rather than pore over the book because the recommendations are presented over and over. Especially useful are Boice's suggestions for managing "student incivilities". His methods will help you keep students from being rude, late and argumentative. The main thrust of the book is excellent: professors need to focus on process as well as content, and new teachers usually try to cram too much material into their lectures. I'm a clinical psychologist who coaches junior faculty trying to get tenure, and I recommend this book often to new professors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mentor in a Box
I am surprised that anyone who criticizes this book as obvious is bothering to read such a book. If it is so obvious, then you are probably one of the "exemplars" that Boice studied to formulate his analysis. Either that, or one of the struggling faculty members he studied, who fail because they are too proud to believe that anyone else has anything to offer. For the rest of us mortals, this book is fantastic.

One thing other reviewers have not emphasized is the extent to which Boice bases his advice on his field studies of faculty. It apparently has been his life's work to study what determines whether university faculty succeed or fail. This gives him unique credibility.

Yes, I acknowledge that it may be a bit off-putting because it is written somewhat in the style of self-help books, i.e., very informal, a bit repetitive, with some of that schtick that runs: "follow my 5 step program to success, because I have uncovered the key heretofore only known by a few, etc." However, the big difference between this and any self-help book is that he can back it up with research. I guess that's how you write self-help books for academics. (And don't misunderstand me, even when it sounds like a self-help book, it's like the better self-help books. This is clearly a labor of love for Boice.)

This book is like one of those rare, great mentors. It doesn't tell you war stories, or give you a laundry list of techniques. Instead, it tells you how to be effective at your job. It describes the day-to-day processes and habits that so many successful people are terrible at articualting ("well, you just do it"). I suspect most academics really can use this. Yes, it's probably the kind of stuff that would be obvious to an outgoing, outwardly directed person like a salesman or politician, but the inwardly-focused types who tend to be drawn to academia really need this kind of help.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best advice on writing practices I have read.
Some reviewers have criticized this book for being obvious. I found it anything but. The culture of my field says that the way to write a paper is to set aside large, uninterrupted blocks of time. It was an eye-opening experience to see hard data that show it is more effective to write in brief daily sessions. These writers are roughly twice as productive by several measures (pages written, manuscripts published) and also report themselves to be happier. This idea changed my professional life.

One more word---the advice in Boice's book can be *very* difficult to follow. I found the book only somewhat helpful with, for example, the difficulties of stopping when one feels ``on a roll.'' I have nevertheless found this an invaluable book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Repetitive and painfully obvious
A very disappointing book. It is a prefect example of using too many words to state, and restate, and restate yet again, what seems very obvious. To anyone who actually has managed to get a Ph.D. in any discipline, little of what is said here will be news. Not that it's bad advice, but I bet 98% of the readers already know most of it. Be sensible. Be well organized. Reserve some time for teaching, and some for research. Do what is expected of you. Work hard. Don't go overboard. Dont run into extremes. Stay in the middle. All things in moderation. Don't wait until one year before your promotion review to start thinking about publishing -- you get the idea. While most of the "wisdom" imparted here is admittedly sensible, I suspect that in some teaching environments several ideas presented here (although well intentioned) may seriously backfire, and undermine prospects for success, rather than help. Take student evaluations of teaching performance: the author suggests using a fairly long evaluation form several times during the term -- I would risk a hypothesis that doing so more than once, twice at the most, will seriously undermine any teacher's authority, waist students' time, and (justifiably) send a clear and loud message that the need for too frequent reassurance is a reflection of too little confidence and deep professional insecurity (incompetence?). Indeed, for those who need that much feedback, and so often, going back to school or finding a different job is probably a better solution. Some of the advice, like the idea to have your students help you "summarize" the results of teaching evaluations seems more than slightly abusive -- there is certainly better use for students' time than to summarize their instructor's evaluations, not to mention the issues of confidentiality, and a request for unpaid administrative labor coming from a person in the position of authority. I am not sure that a student who just paid a lot of money for tuition would appreciate this approach. For those seeking useful advice that goes beyond the obvious, Richard Light's recent and very well researched "Making most of college" (2001, Harvard UP), or "The art and craft of teaching" (1982, 2000 reprint) will probably be much better sources of information (and inspiration), although the latter is slightly dated by now.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful advice
I enjoyed Professor Boyce's book and found it to be helpful. His wisdom is backed up both by research and interesting anecdotes. It is highly repetitive, however, to the point of being annoying. Although a significant proportion of the suggestions in the book are common sense, he provides support and ideas for implementation. It is as though someone wrote a book for weight loss. Some of the ideas are going to be obvious (eat less junk food) but providing a thoughtful structure for implementation is an important contribution. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Wishy Washy
I found this book helpful in some aspects, but it definetly condradicts itself all over the place. In one place, it says that neonatal compressions are to be 5:1 and in another place it says 3:1 - as for my class tests, my teacher used the test manager that came with it, AND we learned 3:1, so I knew that was the answer, but nationally, when I write my certification exam, I dont know what they want to see, because my text book didn't teach me much!It was really easy to look up definetion and the algorithms were good and such...as well as the pictures from actual (or simulated) paramedic calls. But as for the contradictions and spelling mistakes, I can't give this book a very good rating.I highly suggest you invest in another book, it just isnt worth buying this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Essentials of Paramedic Care....Tragedy, or Not?
Well it is true that I have found a few typos already, and that was in the first few chapters. However, after reading the reviews I can show you quite a few typos. This book is good and it was the book of choice by my Paramedic instructor, because he wanted a book that was writen by a real medic, not just a former medic that is now a realestate agent.Anyways, even if the book has errors in it, remember that the most important instruction tool along with your book is your INSTRUCTOR, and how he or she instructs you.The book gives great concepts, knowledge, and how to apply those both to the field. I believe it will be a great preparation for lectures and where I can bring up questions to my instructor. You can't blame your not being prepared for the National Registry test on a book, it is based on you. Here is my advice, if you have a problem or question from the book."ASK YOUR INSTRUCTOR ABOUT IT."They are the ones that will set you on the right track, That's why Paramedic courses aren't independent studies.Anyways, I believe when I get done with school I will be ready to hit the streets.I believe this book will help me get there, with the help of my instructor of course.

4-0 out of 5 stars It looks nice
I just purchased this book, my class uses Mosby's book.. I don't care for that book and I only glanced through this one... It looks nice, I just wish I would have read these reviews first

1-0 out of 5 stars 2,000+ Pages In Search of an Editor
This book contains an appalling numbers of errors, inconsistencies, contradictions, typos, and other editorial oversights. The errors run the gamut: medication dosage errors, math errors, photos and graphics that do not math the description, spelling errors, misinterpretation of statistics, and more. This book may not kill any patients, but it will likely result in many students having to re-take their paramedic certification exams. You will do well to select another text whose authors and editor took the time to check their work.

1-0 out of 5 stars was there even an editor for this book?
This book is FULL of errors, it contridicts itself constantly, and over some very important issues.I would not recommend this book to anyone who is serious about this field.A basic word processor would have caught more errors than the editor did.I feel that if I would have used this book alone (without purchasing additional books from another source) that I would definatly NOT be prepaired to sit for National Registry. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Pricey, but a good way to stay focused and organized.

The body for life plan involves planning your eating and exercise sessions in advance, and then keeping detailed records of them on a daily basis. The program is a "12-week challenge" - i.e. 84 days.

This journal provides all of the necessary forms in a hardback, mini-binder sort of format to plan and track your eating and exercise sessions for those 84 days. Additionally, for each day there is a motivational type blurb and a new "success story", complete with the before and after photos.

It's a bit pricey but it's a great tool for getting organized and tracking your progress. It will also provide a record of your progress.

A couple of minor gripes: 1) Sundays are free days so he doesn't provide pages for those days. It would be nice to have at least a couple of blank pages in there for your notes and observations for those days. And 2) Since the program is all very regimented, so are the forms which means that if you want to deviate from the program or "tweak" it a bit to fit your schedule/lifestyle the journal is going to either not fit at all or be a bit out of whack.

Overall, it's a good tool for your first "12-week challenge". I'm guessing that if you go on to do more challenges you'll end up devising something of your own creation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Success Journal - perfect title!
Whether you are a novice at the Body for Life challenge or an experience veteran, this Success Journal is an important part of making the Challenge experience a positive one. It requires you to really get involved in the challenge, tracking your progress on two fronts: physical (the training and nutrition) and mental (your focus and on helping others).

By actively filling out all the sections of the journal, you keep the changes you're experiencing in the forefront. It's easy to just focus on the workouts, but the mental and nutrition parts of this program are equally if not more important.

I've completed two official challenges and 3 unofficial ones, and though I've gotten great results so far, I feel using this Success Journal will enable me to surpass my previous Success and finally achieve my goals.

I cannot recommend this Journal highly enough. I really like the amount of detail, the success stories included throughout the book, and Bill's comments for each day. It's highly motivating, inspiring, and a terrific addition to a Body For Life challenge.

1-0 out of 5 stars Get a life!!
First, it was "Body for Life in 12 weeks", then comes this empty binder, followed by "Easting for Life". The three books show how easy it is for a mindless person to get his nonsensical garbage out to the bookstores. In this book, the author is selling his nice looking picture on an empty binder. In all his books, Bill Phillips shows total disregard to modern science and preys on unwary readers seeking healthy way of living. Physical health cannot be promoted by commercial supplements and hasty workout plan. It must be a life-long pattern of staying mobile and active. Exercise and healthy diet do not alter the body in few weeks. Blood vessels and cells demand long and steady health practice to adapt to lifestyle changes.

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice companion to the book
Or excellent as a stand alone book on fitness and nutrition. A must read for all the couch potatoes.

Are you a woman between 35 and 50 experiencing PMS, migraine headaches, sudden weight gain, fatigue, irritability, tender or lumpy breasts, memory loss, fibroids, or cold hands and feet? If so, you may be experiencing symptoms of premenopause. Even if you're a decade or more away from menopause, your hormones may already be out of balance, usually caused by an excess of estrogen and a deficiency of progesterone, say the authors of What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause. John Lee, M.D., is a well-known advocate of the benefits of natural progesterone and the author of What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause. Jesse Hanley, M.D., adds sensitivity to the emotional and spiritual aspects of premenopause. The authors recommend natural progesterone cream to balance your hormones, eliminate premenopausal symptoms, and make you feel better. They also discuss the dangers of xenohormones--substances not found in nature that have hormonal effects--frequently found in pesticides, solvents, plastics, and hormone-treated meat. The book presents common symptoms of premenopause with suggested natural treatments (progesterone cream, diet, vitamins, and herbs) and substances to avoid, plus additional chapters on diet and exercise. Many case studies help to bring the information into perspective. If you are premenopausal (or close to someone who is), this is a valuable resource. --Joan Price ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars START HERE , but do a lot more research
I'd cautiously recommend this book to other women suffering, as I do, from premenopause. Written for women who take an active role in their own health care, much of this book provides enlightening information, in layperson's language, about our ever changing hormones and the role they play in a woman's health. The author's theories on causes of hormonal imbalances are provocative, and I'm inclinded to believe that toxic chemicals can cause hormonal upsets, but these theories are as yet unproven. If you have a serious health concern, please do more research...read, read, read. There is a tremendous amount of information on line that can be of help. This book does excel in providing important information about the link between diet and a healthy hormonal balance, and I am following a number of the recommendations in this book. Progesterone Cream, recommended by the authors, may not be the cure for every symptom of premenopause. The jury is out on the use of progesterone cream to treat uterine fibroids, a condition that affects between 30-50% of women in their 30s and 40s. My recommendation for this book is to read it thoroughly, but cautiously... and to follow up with more research on line. I wish you good health!

4-0 out of 5 stars A must-read, but even better to read both books
I first read Dr. Lee's "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause," and then this book. I found the premenopause book to be a much easier read, but recommend reading both books (and I'm a slow reader.)The information made so much sense of bodily changes I've experienced 10 years earlier than most women. I'm relieved to find out I'm not losing my emotional or physical balance. After reading the book and also having a benign cyst removed, I've dropped birth control pills, started using progesterone cream and supplemented my daily vitamins. I feel better, my migraines and arthritis have abated, have no more night sweats and won't miss having a period. I am also shopping for a new (enlightened) ob/gyn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Look No Further
If you're looking for testimonials for women diagnosed with fibroid tumors who used the information provided in this book to treat the fibroids, look no further.
While an ultrasound showed my four fibroids were not unduly large, one had grown through the uterine wall, causing excessive bleeding each month, leading to anemia.
Other symptoms indicated I had excess estrogen, for which this book suggested taking natural progesterone. (Note this is completely different than having low estrogen.)

Nine months after beginning natural progestone treatments, another ultrasound showed all fibroids were gone. Four months into treatment, the anemia was gone and my monthly periods had returned to normal.
I recommend this book to all my friends, not because it offers a single, sure-fire cure for everyone, but because it provides a wealth of hormonal information in one volume. Information that no gynecologist or GP had EVER provided me with. When I was originally diagnosed with fibroids, my doctor told me to have any kids I planned to have, then have a hysterectomy. I didn't know anything about hormones at that time, but I knew there had to be another solution.
This book provides detailed, fact-based information on the human hormonal system.

1-0 out of 5 stars Learned the *very* hard way - Please Be Careful!
Dr. Lee's book convinced me to try natural progesterone, and it was one of the worst decisions ever. After only one month of use, I developed blood clots in my legs, and became so ill that it has taken over six months to recover. Progesterone cream builds up in your tissues over time and can make you very, very sick. Do not believe it when you read that there are no side effects and it is impossible to overdose. Know that the progesterone you're putting on your skin, although "natural", is capable of having all the same effects as the progesterone in birth control pills and RU-486 ~ in other words, you're using something with serious dangers connected to it. Please, please be careful. Get Barbara Seaman or Ellen Grant, MD's books for better information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Educational For All Women
I was shocked to read the symptoms I've suffered over the past 5 years where all written down in a nice organized manner! I had already started using natural progesterone cream when I began to read this book. The changes are incredible! I have been sleeping like I did when I was 21 years young. I feel so much better in every way and this book has been a tremendous aid to me! I highly recommend it to all women no matter their age. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent First Read
This is an excellent introductory text book in radiology. It contains excellent images and covers the key fundamentals in radiology. It would be ideal for the PGY1 or PGY2 resident to read through to gain familarity in radiology before moving on to the major reference texts. Very readable book that does not overwhelm the junior resident with needless minutia.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fundamental of Diagnostic Radiology
This is the single excellent book for Radiology Residents and General Radiologists. Seperate sections on US and NM are the best parts of this book. CT Scan and MRI are dispersed with the General Radiology. If the authors create seperate sections of CT and MRI like US and NM in the next edition, the book will become the only perfect book in General Radiology. This book contains treasure of knowledge for the Radiology residents and racticing General Radiologists.

4-0 out of 5 stars Concise but not enough for residency.
Not a bad overview of most subjects, but some areas are lacking. The bone trauma subsection is particularly scant, excluding all of the fracture grading schemes. Additionally, while somewhat dedicated to differential generating, you don't really get a feel for what is actually common.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
The new version has an ultrasound section which is more extensive than the first edition. The book is sound and an excellent review. It is certainly the new review book as opposed to other texts. It is good for residents and practicing radiologists. I am finished with residency and fellowship and it is a handy reference book! (2nd edition)

This book is crucial to the life of a medical transcriptionist.Updated annually, as the world of pharmaceuticals changes on an ongoing basis, Saunders has the king of drug word books. They cross-reference medications, list info for the generic and brand name drugs under each (e.g. "acetominophen" and "Tylenol" with same info) to minimize double-lookup, unlike the so-called "Quick Look Drug Book."Experimental drugs and discontinued products are listed together with the rest, so one does not have to access a separate appendix.Strengths of dosage (20 mg, 40 mg, etc.) are given, generics are not capitalized, etc., all critical info for an MT.Also included is a "sound-alike" list as well as "sound-alike" info within each individual entry, which often is very helpful. There are other similar publications out there and I've tried several, but Saunders is clearly the best IMO for the transcriptionist's needs. ...
