5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book adn a MUST HAVE for any one in PT pratice
I use this book in my physical therapy pratice all the time. It's a great quick refrence book. Any student PT or PTA should get this book if its required or not. It had wonderful pictures and great directions. It's very helpful in understanding therapudic exercise.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I wanted
This book was exactly what I was looking for and came to me in great condition. The arrival date was earlier than expected, which is always a plus!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a good foundation book
This is a good book for beginning students of therapeutic exercise and mobilization techniques. It gives the basic foundation of the treatments and the sound reasoning behind it. It is a good book to have for P.T. and A.T.C. students just starting out in their career and a good reference book once out in the working field.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good reference book
I got this book years ago in an earlier edition in Physical therapy school. I found it very helpful since it is full of ideas for treatment and exercises for some different diagnoses. Of course, I used it a lot in school in a few courses, it was invaluable in the clinic when I was doing a lot of outpatient orthopaedic patients. Since I am now doing inpatient acute patients I have rarely used this book, but I still have it as a reference because you never know when it may be useful to brush up on. I recommend that you get this book if you are in school or think that clinical ortho patients are your niche.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
This is an excellent manual, covering many essential topics in a well-organized style. Techniques are clearly explained and often are accompanied by a diagram. The large, sturdy spiral makes the book easy to use. Although the pages are a little thin and may leak through with an ordinary highlighter, they are certainly thick enough to easily be underlined with a colored pen or pencil. This book has become my essential, often-consulted reference for therapeutic exercise techniques. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best so Far!
As a future EMT-B student I wanted to buy some books prior to my course beginning. I bought Mosby's, Aehlert's, and Brady's books. I finally got to this one (being the last I was to read), and have to say this is the best Ive seen so far. With clear concise text, and abundance of knowledge, real life situations, and amazing pictures (which Aehlert's has almost none of), I must say that this book is not only the most informative, but is also the most user friendly. It has a great index, glossary, and the anatomy pictures are cut outs of REAL humans. I mean it just doesn't get any better than this. I just found out a few days ago this is the book my instructor is going to use, and for a good reason!

4-0 out of 5 stars A decent book, but a little confusing in parts.
I am an EMT-B instructor in West Virginia and have used this edition to teach my classes. I have found it to be a great improvement over previous editions. The text is easy to read, comprehensive and all-in-all an excellent text on EMT-B. My only gripe with the book is that it makes prehospital patient assessment somewhat confusing for new students. The book breaks patient assessment up into several chapters, giving the reader the impression that assessment is both difficult and complicated. This lack of single-chapter continuity coupled with the trepidation many new students bring to this module creates the impression that patient assessment is a disjointed, randomized activity. I have to tell my students that for patient assessment, these chapters are a good reference, but that I will tell them just how easy assessment is; TAKE NOTES!

If Brady would spend a little more time examining this module, I feel as though they can make it a little less imposing and a little more readable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Workbook
I used this workbook in conjuction with the Emergency Care Book, to prepare for the state registry EMT-B test, and the NREMT-B test. This is a MUST have if you are using the Emergency Care Book. Questions are nearly identical in wording and phrasing to the NREMT-B exam, and the inclusion of practice homework problems add even more preparation oppertunities. DO NOT BUY THE EMERGENCY CARE BOOK, WITHOUT THIS WORKBOOK!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, VERY good...
I am a current EMT-B student and currently use this book as text. The book is indeed easy to read, and has a lot of features to help a student prepare for that dreadful exam. I reccomend buying the workbook as well, to really solidify the knowledge gained by reading. In my class the tests are easy in comparison to the questions in the workbook, this is why I recommend buying the workbook. Also, using all of the features incorporated in this book will, with out any doubt, prepare you for the test. The assessment chapters are mangled as the instructor's review says, but there is a great graphic in the front of the book and being how assessment is SO VITAL, one should visualize it on their own and practice till its like tieing a shoe. All in all a quality well thought out book, with tons of features.

5-0 out of 5 stars You think they are all the same....
But they aren't. This was my required reading. I doubled up and purchased two others just in case. I found that I liked this one the best and just wasted my money on the other two. This book is very well organized and since all of the content to review for the NREMT is the same, that's what it is all about.

Highly recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST BUY for the future Internist
This book is the Bible of Internal Medicine. Anyone considering a career in medicine should have this book in their library. Comprehensive and well written, it is the gold standard of medical textbooks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just entering Medical School
Harrison's is one of the leading authorities on internal medicine. Access to Harrison's is an ABSOLUTE MUST for any medical student! However, you might want to consider your options before sheeling out all of this money.

The first consideration is that your medical school library probably has access to the online version of Harrison's. You may even be able to access it from your home from your school library's website. this doesn't work that well for me, because I hate reading long articles online. I need to be able to make notes and highlight. You can print from the website, but it is a hassle.

The second, and I think best option, is to buy a used copy of Harrison's while in medical school, and then maybe get the current edition when you graduate. The basic information doesn't change that much from year to year. you can use an old copy of Harrison's to get the basic concepts down and then use other resources to get the most up-to-date info. I bought a copy that was 2 years old... and I am pretty happy with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Harrison's keeps being an authority in medicine
This book is a medical tradition, and it is as important to doctors as their stethoscope.
It is very complete, there is no doubt about it. Every subject of medicine is covered, and for a reference book is a must-have. It is also written in an easy-to-read way, but some chapters are more difficult to understand than others, and like a good meal, in excess it can get heavy and occasionally become a brick, so slow-reading is advised. Also worth to mention are the atlases, that give a lot of pictographic information.
I would recommend it only as a reference book, because for the USMLE, or as a course textbook, it is impossible to read it all, especially if time is scarce.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not For the Layperson
Is nothing sacred? There are people who are actually rating Harrison's. Those people in medicine (regardless of specialty) will already know that Harrison's is considered the Bible. The layman may be better served with the Merck Manual ( which is less expensive and easier to read than Harrison's). Medical students would probably find Cecil's an easier read also.A layperson reading Harrison's would understand Hippocrates' Aphorisms in the original Greek better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful home reference!
Great reference, even for non-MD's. The book's chapters are a great read for anyone interested in health matters, and also for those who desire a really comprehensive medical tome.

The thing is pricey, but well-worth the cost. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A good place to start learning what is safe and healthy.
My review is based on the 3rd edition of this book. This book was required reading in my early childhood education program. It is a great introduction to what is safe, healty, and nutritious for children. A simple straight forward approach to information about children that every parent and/or caregiver should know.

This is a pager turner from beginning to end. It took me about three and a half hours to read from chapter 1 on. I have a 2 year old daughter and it was a blessing in disguse to find a book that would actually get me to realize what I needed to do to assist myself and daughter to do to get a healthier lifestyle while still enjoying the "no-no's" on occasion. A must read for all those parents that would enjoy even cooking better foods for their family and have time to spare for a sit down meal. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Another sign of decay in the SLP field
It is another sign of deterioration in the field of Speech-Language Pathology when the person elected to head the national organization in a time of crisis specializes in a medical procedure, rather than speech and language therapy. The field is in danger of losing even more of its focus and credibility than it already has. Unless SLP's concentrate on the core essentials of slp practice and find and refine treatment methods that have clinical research to back up their efficacy, the future is dim. Branching out into medical methods, as Logemann has done, is irrelevant to the serious needs of slp practice today. That Logemann was elected to head our national organization is a bad sign - not because of any merit or lack of it on her part but because the field seems to have no sense of what direction it should have. In the end, it seems to be a battle among three divisions in our field: those who are simply quacks and who are totally unconcerned with efficacy and who want the field to remain on an intuitive and "artistic/creative" level, those who want to rush into medical procedures that have nothing to do with speech and language problems, and those who want to concentrate on the core essentials of the speech and language disorders which our clients bring to us but who want to junk the quack treatments that discredit the field. What happens in the next few years, and the leadership we are given will determine if the field has a future.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too bad this stuff doesn't work
Insurance companies are being ripped off every year for millions in order to pay for a therapy that does not work. Speech therapists need to be held accountable to the same degree that physicians are.

5-0 out of 5 stars The classic text for dysphagia
Logemann and dysphagia are synonymous. Anyone even thinking of working with dysphagia patients needs this book in their library. Everyone refers to it. Everyone teaches from it. Everyone uses it when they need to brush up on their dysphagia knowledge. So what are you waiting for? Buy it!! Unlike many technical writers, Logemann writes well and only uses as much jargon as is absolutely necessary. I found this readable and as invaluable as I had been told that it was. There are only a few truly seminal researchers/therapists in the field of speech-language pathology and Logemann is one of them. ... Read more

Book Description

The practice of modern medicine requires sophisticated information technologies with which to manage patient information, plan diagnostic procedures, interpret laboratory results, and conduct research. This book, inspired by a Stanford University training program developed to introduce health professionals to computer applications in modern medical care, fills the need for a high quality text in computers and medicine, and meets the growing demand by practitioners, researchers, and students for a comprehensive introduction to key topics in the field. The work is designed for a broad audience interested in the intersection of computer science and medicine.

Medical Informatics provides both a conceptual framework and a practical inspiration for this swiftly emerging scientific discipline. As a textbook for students of medical computer science, and a reference work for individual readers needing to understand the role computers can play in the provision of medical services, the book first explains basic concepts, then illustrates them with specific systems and technologies. For example, it describes computing systems for medical records, nursing, hospital information, pharmacy, radiology, patient monitoring, decision support, medical education, and office practice. The ultimate aim of the editors has been to focus on recurrent themes in medical informatics, medical computing applications, and future direction for research, as well as to clarify the definition, and to nurture the effectiveness, of healthcare computing.

Highlights: -Provides the conceptual base needed for understanding and implementing application in medical informatics -Presents sample of how computers assist in the delivery of health care -Includes pointers to additional literature, chapter summaries, and concise definition of recurring terms for self-study or classroom use.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview
This second edition of Shortliffe's textbook is an excellent overview of the field. Although I used it as a course text, it is extremely readable. The chapters are not overly technical, as befits an introductory text, but by no means is this a "Dummmies" book either.

5-0 out of 5 stars Injury assessment
This book is really a great book. It is very detailed and even a lay person like me can understand it. Every condition you can think of is in it. From skin conditions to MCL ruptures. The book is very explanatory and I really like it. I reference it a lot. It comes in handy for home use too, not only professionally.

5-0 out of 5 stars best for exams
we use this physical assessment textbook as our guide for any special exam/test. so complete you will not be able to swallow the whole of it

5-0 out of 5 stars Foundational Text for Physical Therapy, and Orthopedics
Excellent in all respects. Should be a core text in all Physical Therapy Programs. Head and shoulder above other texts of its kind. The authors have remained current with every edition. A great reference for orthopedic residents as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive, "must have" reference
Magee's text is the most comprehensive, practical text covering diagnosis and evaluation of orthopedics I've found. I recommend it without reservation to anyone involved in neuro-musculo-skeletal examination and diagnosis, including athletic trainers, sports medicine specialists, primary care physicians, physiatrists, and physical therapists.

OPA is organized to include applied anatomy, patient history, detailed examination techniques (including all the eponymous tests), diagnostic imaging, and case studies for each joint of the body. Also included are chapters on Gait, Posture, Emergency Sports Assessment, and Preparticipation Examination.

From a physician's viewpoint, the text lacks only a discussion of therapeutic approaches. However, these hinge fundamentally on the physical diagnosis and lie more in the realm of physical therapists. ... Read more

Book Description

This easy-to-follow manual teaches a new hands-on healing practice called quantum-touch. Quantum-touch uses special breathing and body-focusing techniques to elevate the body’s energy. With a light touch, even novices can see postural corrections as bones gently glide into their correct alignment. The book presents a technique that “may truly allow us all to become healers” (C. Norman Shealy). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Photos are REAL
Quantum-Touch is world-class healing you can learn in a weekend just by reading this book. If you have the opportunity to take a personal hands-on workshop, so much the better. The practical experience is priceless.

There was one reviewer on Amazon who asserts that the photos of healing are fake. Nothing could be further from the truth. I took some of the photos that appear on the Quantum-Touch web site, (the ones showing healing scoliosis), and I can say without reservation that the extraordinary healing brought about by Quantum-Touch is nothing short of phenomenal. I have more photos of healing to share which will appear on the Quantum-Touch website as well as my own web site RebuildHealth.com.

Anyone who wants to help others will find the Quantum-Touch method to be awesomely powerful, and will find the book a wonderful source of practical information and inspiration. If anything, at 5 stars it is under-rated. I would give it 10 stars if I could. Richard Gordon did not hold back when writing this book. He gives the complete method, clearly explained, and offers many options for creating a powerhouse of healing in your hands. I regard this book as essential reading for all parents and for practitioners of all the healing arts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quantum Touch = Quantum Healing
"Quantum-Touch" is a powerful book. I have used energy healing techniques for over 23 years, and after applying the easy and accessible techniques in this book I have increased my capacity dramatically in just the first few weeks. The book is written in easy to understand language that demystifies healing energy work. I cannot say enough good things about this book and the author. I was fortunate enough, after reading the book, to attend a workshop presented by Richard Gordon. I found him to be sincere and dedicated to the idea that we all possess the power to heal and if given the chance we will use it. I encourage anyone interested in life and health to read this book. It not only contains wonderful and simple techniques, it also contains invaluable information for general health and well-being all presented with humor and love. Buy it, read it, use it and spread the word, we are ALL healers.

5-0 out of 5 stars What should be on a healer¿s bookshelf
If you are a healer or want to be healed, these books should help. You may also want to put two of these books in your doctor's hands: The Power of Divine: A Healer's Guide, and Hands of Light. I read many books on various forms of healing, and alternative medicine, and I have found wonderful insights and practical how-to in each of these books.

The Healing Touch: A Guide to Healing Prayer for Yourself and Those You Love--- Norma Dearing, Francis MacNutt

The Power of Divine: A Healer's Guide - Tapping into the Miracle---Tiffany Snow

Hands of Light: Guide to Healing Through the Human Energy Field---Barbara Ann Brennan

Quantum Touch: The Power to Heal---Richard Gordon

Healing Light---Agnes Mary White Sanford

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book on healing with hands
I have had this book for a while now and I have to admit I have not done all the exercises but I have felt more energy flowing through my hands. To those that are sceptical it's your loss don't but this book stay the way you are. To those that do stick with it the breathing can be a bit uphill to start with but you get used to it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guide To Energy Healing For Novices & Pros
This book is a very clear guide to developing skills for using one's energy field to heal self & others. It provides techniques for developing awareness of and sensitivity toward subtle energy fields, including breathing, stroking, and visualization exercises. It explains the quantum physics ideas that can explain how energy healing and spiritual healing work, with a focus on maintaining a loving, caring attitude when practicing. The author has presented a system that is similar to therapeutic touch, pranic healing, reiki, and other healing approaches, while making the system simple and powerful, helping the healer remain centered and empowering everyone to be responsible for their own healing. There are just a few things that could be added to help healers handle very challenging situations and integrate this practice with other natural healing methods. Overall, this is a very insightful book, which makes it is easy for readers to learn and practice quantum touch, an ability that comes naturally to all of us spiritual beings having human experiences. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Useful but not without plenty of typos and other errors
I passed the NCCPA board exam using this book and 2 review books on Internal Medicine. I did not even review the NCCPA blueprint (which you should not do by any means). I put in a total of 4-5 weeks of good study. This book certainly covers all the terrain you will need in terms of scope. The questions are excellent and the answers are thorough enough. By the time you finish this and take the 200 Question test at the end (I scored 95% after reviewing the whole book...but would have done much worse without the former)you will certaily feel stronger with your general knowledge.

My criticism are limited to typos and mistakes in terms of right answers in the answer key. For instance you will answer "B" and the correct answer is supposedly "A"; you read through the explanation and it does NOT accord with choice"A" but in fact "B" or maybe "C". That was often the case but just reading through the answers made it obvious which choice was correct so don't give up on buying this book just because of that. Its worth the purchase. The CD was a waste of time however. It contains the identical 200Q test at the end of the book (which itself contains not new Qs but the same as those in the book, only randomly selected).

The actual test has a 30 minute computer orientation period which is not counted towards your exam time so don't worry. It is an intuitive and straightforward user interface. I took 5 minutes to know how to use it and so will you. Last comment - for a review book that supposedly prepares you for the test there was NOTHING on hypertension - go figure! GOOD LUCK!

4-0 out of 5 stars priceless study guide
Use this guide along with Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment, Current Surgical Diagnosis and Treatment, plus a comprehensive board review course and you'll pass everytime. My husband and I ,both very specialized P.A.'s, have passed 3 times each ,plus the additional surgical boards, and are now getting ready for the 4th round! There have been questions on the exam that were right from the book EVERY TIME!! So, the above new grads are indignant about the occasional misinformation, but the reality is that this is a GUIDE not a bible, and that one must study TO the exam-which is rarely a reflection of practice.

3-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware
This review concerns the 4th edition. As a new graduate, I am using this text, amongst others, to prepare for the PANCE. First of all, it is a productive study tool for that purpose, but despite what Anthony Miller, MEd, PA-C (one of the editors) states in an earlier review (see above), it is still littered with incorrect information. The authors state that 75% of the info is new, and maybe it is, but that doesn't alter the facts. Some of these answers and explanations really make you scratch your head frustration and disbelief. In addition, some of the sections, the pharmacolgy section in particular, are filled with irrelavent trivia. Its almost as if the author of that section was deliberately trying to impress us with his command of obscure information, not directly related to clinical practice... Also, some of the question writers insist on using the old fashioned terms for diseases or syndromes, rather than the newer term that describes the pathophyiology. Some of the sections contain very outdated clinical practice information, the pulmonary section in particular. I found the use of the term "rale" particularly annoying. It's just a small thing, but that tells me the writer is not one who keeps up with current practice.

It's really frustrating to look up all 5 answers in Current or Cecil's, find that they concur about the correct response, and then read the answer and explanation in this review and find it totally different.......

This text IS a good review for the PANCE, but only if the student is good enough to recognize the incorrect/out-of-date information and adjust their thinking accordingly. A marginal student might be led astray by this text. So buyer beware..........

2-0 out of 5 stars Confusion included
Appleton & Lange's Outline for the Physician Assistant Examination is seriously deficient in content regarding the NCCPA Examination Content Blueprint, there are many subjects from the blueprint that are not covered in this review. It also does not cover up to date treatment practice guidlines. It is also seriously riddled with incorrect information when compared to many medical textbooks such as Current's Medical Diagnosis & Treatment and Harrison's. The combination of these deficiencies will erroneously lead the aspiring PA into confusion and error on the exam. Even using the USMLE books will not be enough of a guide so I suggest that all subjects in the blueprint be reviewed individually with other sources and corrections made by the student into this book before attempting the exam.
Hopefully a new book edition that is edited more thoroughly using more accurate sources will become available soon since this one is already three years out of date.

5-0 out of 5 stars Impressive
I have critiqued many of the PA review books available today. Only two are being recommended for my clinical year students to prepare for End of Rotation exams and the NCCPA exam. This is one and the other is Appleton and Lange's Outline Review for the Physician Assistant Examination by Albert F. Simon (Editor), Anthony A. Miller (Editor).

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect review packed with information
This book gets 5 stars due to the fact it gives you what it says-major review info for national certification. Loaded with information page after page including diagrams, defintions, text and review questions.

My instructors were a little surprised to find out the previous 'bible' of certification review "The Guide" is no longer published as it was. This book takes it's place, with all the information the Guide had, updated and condenesd in an easy to take format (compared to many others, including The Guide's large print text and spiral bound text book). This book is smaller, will fit in any bag you tote around so you can study any and all the time. It has earned all the praises of my instructors and has become a major core to our massgae cirriculum. If you want to study for the National exams, or if you are already liscensed and need a simple, highly informative reference book to add to your library this would be perfect...

5-0 out of 5 stars I PASSES THE BOARDS!!!
Ok guys I flunked the test the first time. I then got serveral books and finding out what they really are this is the book you need to be studing. Every question that is on the test is in this book. It took me only 45 minutes to take the test. Folks get this book, read it well, study it and you will get high in all the areas like I did. ...

2-0 out of 5 stars I could have passed without this book
I have been out of school for 4 years and I needed to take the Nationals, I heard this book was the best. It may have been the best for people taking the Nationals in 2003 but there were only about 5 questions that even resembled what the practice exams in the book were. I know that I could have passed the Nationals without studing for a month and a half with this book and passed. I think they need to revise this book for the 2004 Nationals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent review with an online study/exam
I highly recommend this review book by Joseph Ashton. It easy to read yet quite comprehensive. The online exam can be taken in study or test mode which is good practice. Great investment!
