5-0 out of 5 stars The Natural Physician's Healing Therapies
I am totally impressed with the amount of information in this book. I went right out and bought a copy for my medical doctor. Thank you.

5-0 out of 5 stars EASY TO USE
Dr. Stengler's book is an easy to use, fact-filled book. I have used alternative medicine extensively for the past 7 years, yet I found so much new information in this book. It is comprehensive, all the topics are explained well and easy to understand and implement, so that even a "beginner" would benefit greatly from it.
This book deserves at least a 5 Star review. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for any serious herbalist!
James Green's "The Herbal Medicine Maker's Handbook : A Home Manual" is one of my new favorite books on herbal forumlation. Green makes the subject not only easy to understand but he talks to the reader in such a way that makes the subject extremely accessable. Green has taken all the percieved diffuclty or mystery out of making your own medicines. I keep my copy right next to my herb cabinet where I can get right at it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative
Finally a book that takes the magic of herbalism and adds a healthy dose of structure, science and common sense. As a beginning herbalist, I find the information contained in the book extremely useful and not found in many other places. This book has earned its place on my favorite list.

5-0 out of 5 stars awesome
This book gives tons of information about different diets, all the vitamin, nutrients, water, air, etc.... I learned so much! I read the whole thing in a little over a week, I spent at least 2-3 hours a day reading it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Valuable Book
I keep picking this book up and referring to it for information I need about health, diet, supplements, etc. It's big alright, but eventually I've been to all the sections. It's a sensible, reasonable book with no hype.

5-0 out of 5 stars Should be everyone's nutrition bible.
Dr Haas has written an exhausting, thorough and informative "bible" about everything from what carbs, proteins and fats are and how they work to every vitamin, mineral and supplement you can imagine to special diets for different stages of your life or special needs to recipes...it just covers everything. I especially have to rave about a Western doctor who recognizes the validity of things like food combining and Candidiasis.

This book is over 1,100 pages and it's just jam packed with more information than you will think you need, but then you'll be surprised to find how many sections you'll flip to for info that pertains to you and your family.

I have a huge library of nutrition books and references that are really useful and well-written, but I'd toss them all just to have this one. If you are hesitant about the price or the size of the book, don't be. You will find it to be incredibly useful, easy to understand and beneficial when applied to your own daily life. I know I did.

This is far and away THE best nutrition book out there, I can't see how anyone could top this, unless he releases it with more information one day (and I can't see how there could be more.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and Helpful!
Dr. Haas has put together one of the most complete nutrition books that can be enjoyed by the average reader. From what I have read, he makes no outrageous claims, though he does believe nutrition can offer health benefits (which would distinguish this book from a standard nutrition textbook). While the price may seem a little steep, there are 1140 pages that contain a wealth of information. The first 353 pages list virtually every popular nutrient (vitamins, minerals, fats, etc) and food category (such as beans, citrus fruits, etc). He even gives relevant information on the pseudo-vitamins such as Pangamic Acid (B15), amygdalin (B17), and Vitamin U. He also lists many of the popular diets and their benefits and drawbacks.

He also includes a very helpful section on "the Environmental Aspects of Nutrition." Possible pollutants and common food additives are discussed. He lists "88 Survival Suggestions."

Over 100 pages are dedicated to a Seasonal Cookbook. The foods are healthy, but possibly difficult for the average reader to obtain. It is possible with a little work however. There is a section on "Nutritional Application," which has special diets and suggestions for people with cancer, heart disease, yeast syndrome, and other disorders. He also includes suggestions for executives, adults, children, alcoholics, and adolescents. Overall the Nutritional Application section is very complete.

Finally he includes around 80 pages of health questionnaires that test health knowledge and actually intend to estimate one's health level. I use this whenever I have general or specific health questions. I recommend it highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best, most comprehensive nutrition summary I've come across.
Not only does this summary provide a comprehensive review of traditional nutrition, it also provides information on less traditional supplements and discussion of current nutritional issues. I highly recommend this book for both lay people and professional nutritionists. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of a Kind
I have read the critical reviews of this textbook and I disagree with them. As a naturopathic physician and educator, I have found this textbook to be an indispensible learning tool for anyone serious about understanding natural medicine. A work of this magnitude is bound to have imprefections. The Textbook of Natural Medicine is an incredibly ambitious work. More importantly, it is a groundbreaking work. Many others have come later to improve upon what Drs. Murray and Pizzorno have created here, but this book is the grand-daddy of all of them. Murray and Pizzorno have done more to advance awareness of naturopathic medicine in the world than anyone. This textbook is only one part of their legacy. Moreover, it is not the work of just two people, but a collaborative effort that includes many contributors. This book was written by practitioners with tremendous intelligence and experience, who were practicing complementary and alternative medicine decades before most people even knew what it was. This evolving work that deserves the highest regard, even with its flaws. There are critical aspects of natural medicine that exist nowhere in print except in this textbook. Any healthcare practitioner who has not studied it cannot claim to be an expert in natural medicine.

1-0 out of 5 stars Health text?
A book of words and dubious references by "experts". I cannot find any important educational references in this book. As an expert in the field of Natural Medicine this is one book I would NEVER use.

1-0 out of 5 stars hundreds of mistakes
When I am sick, I don't want to wade through this book at all......there are many mistakes. I had the shock of my life recently.....I had a mild cold and took the standard remedies given by my herbal "doctor". I didn't get better and got very sick almost to the point of being in the hospital. Luckily, my family medical doctor treated me and also prescribed a potent Rx. Within 24 hours I felt much better! None of the alternate treatments and herbal medicines worked at all! The bill from the herbal "doctor" and all the medicines and treatments he gave me was MORE than the visit to my Family medical doctor and his treatments !!!!! Thanks Doc!

3-0 out of 5 stars A good first try
The textbook of natural medicine is an eclectic collection of all the medical lore the "Mainstream AMA worshippers" have rejected. This is extremely useful since a lot of that stuff works! Unfortunately, the editors did NOT do their job of ensuring quality, uniformity and relevance. They were however quite complete.

The book cautions readers to prescribe therapeutically useful dosages and then in many cases suggests inadequate doses or too infrequent admnistration.

Irrelevant discussions, e.g. of how witches being burned at the stake during the inquisition relates to the role of women in modern medicine fill up a small but noticeable portion of the book.

Some of the material, such as that on heavy metal detoxification, is flat out wrong - and dangerously so. The editors did not ensure that contributors who proclaimed themselves experts in a field actually WERE experts.

With that all said, many effective therapies are suggested, much correct information is included, and most of the content is relevant. However it is up to the reader to go find OTHER sources and to collect the experiences of patients to sort out what it is in this book that works, and what does not. I'd say it is 70 or 80% accurate - a good place to start but certainly not the sole foundation for a medical practice that is going to make very many people well.

Health care professionals who read this book as a supplement to more traditional (and editorially mature) works will find much invaluable information that is not available elsewhere. Any type of physician would be well advised to read this book if they want to find new ways to help their patients solve problems that aren't amenable to the standard approaches.

The extensive referencing is useful and interesting even if it was included primarily to ape the "AMA worshippers" game of pretending that what doctors do is scientific. Naturopathy is at least as scientific as allopathy, which isn't saying all that much. Unfortunately, the poorly written sections also do not refer to appropriate literature where accurate information can be found so the extensive referencing really doesn't ameliorate the book's problems.

The book is also not as technical as the editor's sales material (above) states - it is accessible to people with a reasonable amount of technical knowledge regardless of whether they have studied biology or medicine. This book is a good place for patients to look who have problems where their MD knows how to keep them from dying, but not how to make them better.

I'd give this book a cautious "buy" reccomendation. It is good enough to be useful and there really isn't anything else comparable. But I do hope the editors will have a much improved third edition out soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Invaluable Resource for physicians and patients
The Textbook of Natural Medicine is an amazing compilation of information on natural medicine, clearly the definitive work on natural medicine to date. What is perhaps the most amazing about this book is it's comprehensive nature. From detailed information on the history of naturopathic medicine to wonderfully complete discussions of individual herbal medicines, this book has it all. Even difficult-to-categorize subjects like detoxification, food allergies and stress management have been included. For the practitioner, perhaps the most valuable feature of this two-volume set are over 70 chapters dedicated to specific health problems. These chapters include sections on both diagnostic and therapeutic considerations, enabling the physician to get a quick overview/review of general features of the disease, appropriate diagnostic approaches and possible differential diagnoses, as well as solid, science-based natural therapeutics. Definitely a "must-have" for health-care practitioners. ... Read more

Book Description

Basing his work on the journals of William H. Bates, Tom Quackenbush outlines a method for restoring eyesight by using the mind and body to improve vision. He debunks conventional theories that assert the need for corrective lenses, arguing that the key to eyesight improvement lies in relearning the correct habits of vision. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars best modern presentation of the Bates Method
This large book is on the Bates Method, which Tom has been teaching for about fifteen years. Large portions of Bates's book and magazines are quoted, and while there is no substitute for reading Bates's book and all his magazines yourself, this book reviews what Bates taught more comprehensively than any other author. If it were not for this and Tom's other book, The Complete Magazines of William H. Bates, I might never have understood the Bates Method as it is meant to be understood.

Tom emphasizes relearning to use natural, relaxed vision habits all day long, habits which most people with imperfect sight had as children. Even those people such as me who have had eye problems all their lives, even as infants, unconsciously know how to use their eyes and mind in the right way.

He also goes over a number of modern issues that Bates was not aware of in his time, such as color therapy, left and right brain hemispheres, and healing crises.

5-0 out of 5 stars Encyclopedia of vision improvement
Far and away the most comprehensive book on vision improvement I've come across, this is more of an encyclopedia than a book you read straight through. Mr. Quackenbush - not an eye doctor, but a long-time teacher of the Bates method - goes through the mechanics and physiology of the eye and the eye's natural vision habits in exhaustive detail. He also gives pointers on reducing one's prescription, movement exercises, acupressure, relaxation games, left-brain/right-brain physiology, and holistic health, all geared toward improving your eyesight. Central to his teaching of the Bates method is that there are NO exercises. These are habits which are to be practiced 24 hours a day! And they are so simple, so easy to do, and afterwards you'll wonder why people are still stuck in poor vision.

Tom, who founded the Natural Vision Center, used to teach his courses in the San Francisco Bay Area but is now in Ashland, Oregon. I've taken his natural vision course and I found it to be profound. It's been a year and a half; my prescription used to be 20/400, but now I can occasionally see 20/50 or better. Progress is expected to be slow but steady, and I saw jumps in my vision after only a few weeks in the course.

5-0 out of 5 stars concise and detailed
I did not realize this was such a large book and technical at the same time. But it is concise and thorough and I skipped many of the technical explanations and derived the main geist of improving vision naturally.

Mainly the book conveys the importance of relearning correct habitual seeing at all times as opposed to exercises for the eyes. The book is emphatic and focused on this point.

Mainly the three habits of seeing is blinking, sketching, and breathing and the book goes to great lenghts to explain and convince in many different situations its relevance.

Outstanding reading. Just realizing your erred visual habits will improve your sight to an extent which varies widely but as the book says it will take more time and relearning to undo years or lifetime of incorrect habits that it becomes natural and subconcious as was what you were born.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hallelujah!
Hallelujah I can see... well actually I already could, but having Keratoconus made wearing glasses mostly a waste of time. So I did like the book said and quite wearing them. I can now go out on a bright day without dark sunglasses. After reading all 521 pages in the book the techniques become second nature. I bought a pile of them to give out as Christmas gifts to all my four eyed friends, and family members. If you cherish sight then this is a must buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, well-written, thorough book....(perhaps too much)
I thought this book was excellent in explaining anything you could possibly want to know about the eyes - almost like a biology/physics textbook, and it has a ton of excerpts from Bates original publications. The book is well-written, and my eyes were glued to it (probably reducing my eyesight LOL)- I sped through it within 2 days.
In general, I found this book to be *extremely informative*, and very in-depth and perhaps giving me much more than i really wanted to know.
It definitely gives a person hope that he/she can improve their eyesight, all you need is *dedication* and *motivation*. I have not been able to make a habit of doing the 'exercises' yet, so I can't comment on that, but the belief that poor eyesight comes from straining is something i believe in, and therefore reversible. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars worth a buy if you do not mind typos
Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Techniques is an alternative to Travell's Trigger Point Manual if you do not do TP injections. It has great pictures, well explained treatment techniques (if you are up to date with your anatomy and medical terms) and lots of references. The disadvantage are typos (the editor must have had a bad day and was unable to write the German words for the references right, but also some English words are off!) Parts of the text are repeated in the book twice, what I thought is unnecessary and only adds to the number of pages but not the quality of content. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A practical book indeed
This book is written in a very user-friendly style. What's best is that health tips are easy to put into practice.

Don't miss this appealing yet practical book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting and easy to understand and follow
Carlson Wade is a medical nutrition reporter who has completed 26 books on natural healing. In his book, Inner Cleansing, you will learn about the why and how of cleaning out the "sludge" that accumulates in our bodies. How does it get there? We live in a toxic world. Between air pollution, additives to our water supply, additives to our foods, dyes, colorings, preparation methods, stress, etc. the modern person has no choice but to ingest, breathe or come into contact with various toxins and other problematic items. These in turn cause premature aging, aches and pains, fatigue, heart problems, high blood pressure and a variety of other symptoms.
The book offers techniques to cleanse yourself of these toxins. The techniques are simple and the things you need are readily available. Unlike other programs for detoxification, this one does not require months to complete. After only a couple of days you should feel the difference. If you are having a nagging problem or just not feeling like yourself these days, this book may have the answers for you. If it doesn't work for you then you have lost nothing, if it does work then you have regained a better life. I will say that I often feel better after a regular cleansing program and am much more active than most of my friends my age.

5-0 out of 5 stars Miraculous!
After trying out some of the recommendations from Mr. Wade's book, I must say that I feel great! After two days of eating raw fruits/veggies my energy level and mood increased significantly! The book is easy to understand and contains recipes with ingredients readily found in the supermarket or health food store. Make sure that you are around a bathroom though once you start the program...................

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple Steps to Health

this was the best book that i have purchased for reviewing for the National Massage and Bodywork exam. ive purchased 4 books to help me, and i have used the cd-rom in this book almost exclusively. it is useful if you already are familiar with your stuff, but if you need a complete review i would suggest the review for massage and bodywork by joseph ashton. as for this book, the cd-rom practice tests in this book are a great resource. 5 stars!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good book

I've found this book to be a great resource and wealth of information and strongly recommend it to others especially if you are a new graduate who feels as if their chiropractic institution did not adequately prepare you for the business world. Joseph Kostuch DC

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Ivan Delman has outdone himself once again!
This book deserves a prominent spot on every doctor's bookcase! The second edition of Dr. Ivan Delman's practice management "bible" is especially useful for doctors of chiropractic, but the solution-oriented business and marketing advice would apply to almost any small business, especially those in the health-care field.

Dr. Delman never disappoints. He has outdone himself once again, with this edition of "The Business of Chiropractic: How to Prosper After Startup."

The book is filled with specific practice management problems and solutions, with lots of hands-on information. It's useful for the new doctor, and can help experienced doctors take their businesses to the next level.

Dr. Delman's easy-to-read prose; vivid, real-life examples; and a touch of humor keep you turning the pages to find out what comes next. Some of the highlights of the book include: how to identify the four functions of any successful clinic; how to develop as a manager; how to use a marketing guide to determine your market viability; how to manage cash flow through the use of statistics and trends; and much more.

This book is an excellent read all the way through, and I have a feeling many doctors will find themselves referring back to it again and again.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best advice straight from the greater trochanter
I experienced Dr. Delman's knowledge and skill in chiropractic and practice management as a patient many years before following in his footsteps. When I saw that he had written a guide book for the rest of us, I was thrilled. I own both the first and second editions. Dr. Delman explains the "how-to's" of a successful practice in a concise, understandable and enjoyable format. This is a must for any DC at any stage!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Outstanding
I often shake my head in disbelief to think that many of my fellow chiropractors will shell out thousands of dollars in practice management seminars when a book such as this exists for a fraction of the cost, and in truth, is much better.

Ivan Delman has managed to take important universal truths of business success and apply it to chiropractic in a simple but powerful way. Passion, wisdom, humor, and compassion are the hallmarks of his writing style that walks you through essential steps in creating the practice of your dreams.

Just as in chiropractic we tell our patients to please try chiropractic first before doing expensive, needless surgery, I suggest that D.C.'s read this gem of a book first before attending an expensive seminar.

You won't be sorry.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource for chiropractors!
I purchased the 1st edition of this book while still in chiropractic college and the 2nd edition when it came out shortly after my graduation. It presents excellent ideas and concepts for managing your practice succesfully. Much more informative and useful than any chiro business class while in school. It is an easy read. I highly recommend it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Healthy Digestion the Natural Way
This book clearly explained and identified sooo many misconceptions I had about the digestive system. I was thrilled with the information I gained and have already put into practice new ways to deal with my personal digestive problems. The results of this change to a natural way (no drugs) has improved my well being a 100 fold. Thanks to the author for writing this book and for the recommendation of this book in a local paper.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nurse's recommendation
Dr. Lindsey Berkson's digestion book has given me inspiration and motivation to travel the road to sound health for not only the body, but for body, mind, soul and spirit. As a registered nurse, I found Dr. Berkson's book an excellent resource for healing that gives abundant, ready to use, practical information on health for the whole person. This is a book that I do recommend to my nurse colleagues as well as my patients because it is written with great knowledge, wisdom, gentleness and warmth. Thank you Dr. Lindsey Berkson!

4-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational for believers
An inspirational but practical guide for persons concerned with their digestive issues. Natural remedies are stressed to get the best out of what the nature has to offer and what the digestive system truly needs. Other titles/authors of interest to the readers may be "Natural Stomach Care", "Digestive Wellness" and "Your Gut Feelings".

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful reference book!!
I love the layout/style of the book - easy to follow! I have used this over and over as a reference for different ailments/symptoms! The information is extremely helpful!! This one is a keeper!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Reference book for true believers
Twenty direct, easily referenced chapters, each with recommendations for herbs and supplements (many not inexpensive), exercises, even reflexology pressure points. Take your pick of ailments and treatments. The author offers all you could wish for. If you suffer from IBS, go right to chapter 14. There's much useful and sensible info here along with a plethora of alternative therapies and theses (some presented with too much certainty--the controversial candida yeast connection, for example, or recommendations to "flush out" your gall bladder by drinking a "pint" of olive oil upon retiring and arising!). But thoughtful readers will probably want to supplement this text with one that is more mainstream, cautious and personal in its approach. Check out titles by Janowitz and Van Vorous. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Complete Encyclopedia of Natural Healing by Gary Null
The book is excellent overall. The author's presentation is
drawn considerably from his own experience in formulating and
implementing these protocols. Some of the protocols may be
seen in various journals of the Lancet or in studies done
overseas. Dr. Null emphasizes the need for a patient to
"listen to the body" as a condition precedent to a successful
healing experience. That is, repeating harmful behaviors
only impedes the healing process. The key to a successful
healing experience is a careful monitoring and control over
behaviors which are at the heart of the disease process.
Dr. Null's extensive knowledge of bio-chemistry is evident
from the discussion and implementation of a number of the
recommended protocols. To gain a better perspective on the
general area of alternative medicine, it might be helpful to
utilize this work in conjunction with the Alternative Medicine
work by Burton Goldberg. In addition, Dr. Null gives frequent
lectures on radio . It would be helpful to listen to these
presentations in order to obtain foundational material on
the peer-reviewed journals which cite the natural healing
methodologies and the supportive statistical data.
Burton Goldberg's work on Alternative Medicine cites
hundreds of alternative medicine practitioners and an
equal number of research sources in peer-reviewed journals.

3-0 out of 5 stars References ?
I lecture on nutrition wellness and holistic medicine. Gary's book is of use to me however it would be of more use if the facts in the book were referenced to peer reviewed studies. There are no references substantuating what he says in the book. There are also not many references to side effects or contraindications. Overall its not a bad book. I just wish it was more referenced.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not all it is crackup to be
I heard Gary Null speak about this book. I expected to find new answers to solve my health problems. Unfortunately I already knew all that was listed for my health problems. I could have learned more with an hour on the internet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Step by Step Guide to Nutritional Wellness
This book covers pretty much any ailment you could be suffering from. Whether it's obesity, headaches, chronic fatigue, candida, irritable bowel, etc, it's covered here.

This books gives a good insight to a bunch of Alternative Therapies, and lists testimonials for each of the ones mentioned. I liked the part where a man gave his testimonial on Gary's Hair Regrowth Protocol. It was a genuine testimonial. Usually, I think testimonials are garbage, but having listened to Gary for many years, you know he wouldn't try to hype anyone up.

This book is exceptional for anyone looking to put an end to their suffering, as Gary lays it all out in plain English what it will take to get over whatever condition you suffer from. Excellent book.

5-0 out of 5 stars I can heal myself.
My asthma has entirely improved. I run everyday and my energy level is soaring. I believe everyone should have a copy of this book in their home. Throw away the medicine in the medicine cabinet and fill it with natures healing sources! Thank you Mr. Null.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but not great.
There's a lot of good information in this book but I would not recommend it as a reference.

First of all, it isn't totable: it's format makes it a clunker. It's 8 1/2 by 11" and its page format is such that the book could have been printed with half the paper. The added appendices are pretty useless considering the main A to Z section entries pretty much tell you exactly the same thing.

Second of all, the formatting is inconsistent; adding question to your inquiry. Did they make this entry as complete as they did that one?

I very much prefer Meletis/Jacobs' and Brinker's books to this one. For intuitiveness and extensive cross-referencing, Meletis/Jacobs' wins hands down.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book for Today's Health Consumer
The authors of this book have made a significant contribution to the resources available for today's health consumer. By providing this current, well-organized and useful "guide" they are helping those of us trying to protect or improve our own health, and those of us facilitating others in doing that, tremendously! Their research is thorough and and unbiased - I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "Must Have" Reference for Patients and Doctors.
The editors and authors of this HealthNotes publication have presented the most up-to-date information in an easy to read format without compromising scientific judgement. In the information world of alternative medicine, it is all to easy for conventional medical texts to react out of fear by recommending "extreme caution" for just about any prescription or possible nutrient/herbal interaction. "The A-Z Guide..." does a tremendous job of integrating insights of physicians form several different disciplines (the book is written by an MD, ND, and DC, et. al.), which provides the reader with a diverse and thorough scientific review of known and suspected interactions. I have personally found this book extremely helpful in the waiting room and on my desk as a quick refernce. ... Read more

The Complete Illustrated Guide to Chinese Medicine is a fine prescription for those tired of the bureaucracy or the ineffectiveness of Western medicine. It's also a good resource for those who are just interested in exploring ways to improve their general health. Replete with hundreds of color photographs that lucidly introduce and explain the arts of acupuncture, meditation, acupressure massage, and herbalism, the book includes fitness programs such as qigong and taiji, which help to unblock Qi (pronounced "chee"), the body's life force. It also explains shen the mental aspect of the body; jing, the constitution; and zangfu, the organ systems. Numerous case studies show how traditional Chinese medical techniques have been used to diagnose and treat patients with various complaints, including heartburn, PMS, and exhaustion. Over 3000 years old, Chinese medicine is based on the Taoist holistic vision of balancing all the body harmonies. This book is a lavishly illustrated and complete guide to every aspects of this tradition. It is not a self-help book, but a guide explaining the concepts and principles and providing a detailed description of certain therapeutic exercises that everyone can use to optimise health.

Part Two considers the Chinese approach to diagnosis, including diagnostic techniques like looking, hearing, questioning and touching, and includes an overview of the patterns of disharmony.

Part Three deals with Chinese approaches to treatment, including the principles of treatment and diagnosis and specific modalities like acupuncture, herbalism, qigong and lifestyle factors such as exercise, diet and feng shui.

The Further Reading section consists of bibliographies under headings like general, herbal, diet and others. A list of useful addresses in various countries is supplied and the At-A-Glance Directory is an illustrative index to finding treatments. The book concludes with a glossary and index and contains full colour illustrations and photographs.

Dr. Murphy has produced the state of the art text in the conservative management of the Cervical spine. Taking a multi-disciplinary approach, this book serves Chiropractic physicians, Physiatrists, physical therapists, Osteopathic physicians, and all clinicians with a need and interest in understading conservative Cervical spine care.

Among therapeutic approaches covered are manipulation, soft-tissue techniques, the Mckenzie protocol, sensorimotor rehabilitation, cervical stabilization, exercises, psychological management, and surgical.

Clinical conditions include Cervical trauma, motor vehicle collisions, headaches, Cervical radicular and pseudoradicular syndromes, joint dysfunction, myofascial syndromes, vertigo, disequilibrium, orofacial pain, temporomandibular disorders, and neuropsychological dysfunction.

Of all the fine information contained in this work, my favorite portions consist of the quite frequent "Clinical Pearls" interspersed thoughout each chapter. These are Dr. Murphy's own personal commentaries, practical clinical tips, and observations. They add immeasurably to the usefulness of the information in daily practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring Scripts
The book has a a variety of inductions, emerging scripts and scripts for dealing with assortment of situations a hypnotherapist may encounter in his practice. Most scripts contain metaphors which may work more effectively in one-on-one practice if they are adapted to the one's that may be more meaningful for the client.

Here's a sample script from this collection:

SWEET DREAMS SCRIPT
Tonight, perhaps tomorrow too,
your unconscious mind
can give you a dream,
a very special dream
that clarifies the problem
indicates the source perhaps,
but tells you quite clearly
how to solve that problem now.
And each night afterwards,
until you understand it,
until you decide to do it or not,
that dream can return to you
in one form or another.
And every day
as you go about your business,
your unconscious can find something,
some thought, perception, awareness,
a taste perhaps or a sensation,
or even a color,
that seems familiar
and reminds you of something,
reminds you fo what your unconscious mind
is trying to tell you,
until you fully understand
and use that understanding for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars A useful book on hypnotic scripts
The authors present a simplistic notion of therapy and hypnosis. Their talk of "mini-minds" reminded me of the movie Austin Powers. You won't find sophisticated theory here, but there is much of practical value. This book is definitely worth owning as a reference manual, but it is overpriced for what you get.

5-0 out of 5 stars An immediate way to incorporate trance into therapy
I really began appreciating this book after attending an Ericksonian hypnotherapy workshop. The induction scripts are good examples of the different kinds of inductions and are usable as written. The metaphors (where the work gets done) are also very useful as is but as you get more experienced they make great bases for customized scripts. The chapter "on doing hypnotherapy" is one of the best introductions to the art I've seen. This is the one book I use regularly while doing therapy with clients.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Done!
Here's the book for all those who need to understand their client's "categories of prescription". A simple and concise method for indirect induction, and metaphor "scription". I liked this book a great deal, and have utilized many of the scripts verbatim! Keep this book handy as a reference no matter what your style of practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical, accessible, and inspiring. Skinny on theory.
This book takes a novel and practical approach to hypnotherapy. The authors provide compelling examples, transforming this esoteric subject into something that is accessible and immanently useful. You will find yourself thinking in new ways, recognizing your own metaphors for yourself and your clients, and drawing more deeply on your own intuition. ... Read more
