5-0 out of 5 stars It's Da Bomb Baby
This is the only text I use for path anymore. Keep the others around for reference, but this is your main source. Lots of good prescriptions in the back. Great organization. Cuts out alot of the padding found in other texts. Don't be fooled by the slim profile, its jam packed with good and USEFUL info.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent review and reference

3-0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings
There is a lot of information in this book, and I mean a lot. That's a good thing right? Yes and no. For being such a large, reference oriented book, this has one of the worst indexes I have ever seen. Its terrible. They obviously spent a great deal of time on the book, and its mind-boggling that they wouldn't put a good index in. As such, this is pretty much worthless for quick references. So we are left with a HUGE book, probably suitable only for perio residents, since they are probably the only ones with the motivation, obssesiveness, and lack of sanity to plow through this. Add a good index, and I'd give it five stars. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars This is a well intentioned book, plagued with errors.
We recently used this book in a dental hygiene program and found it very frustrating. The self instructional format was fairly well plotted out, and the intentions of the book as a program of study were admirable. However, as a class, we found many errors and contradictions in the text. My personal advice would be to wait for a next edition when more through editing has been accomplished.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good introduction into dental anatomy.
This book is an excellent resource for anyone wishing an introduction to the topic of dental anatomy. I think any first year dental student would find this especially helpful. The text is divided up into modules, and then into frames, with the answers to questions within the frames located in the margin. The book is very good about reinforcing terms that may not be familiar to the beginning student of dentistry or to the layman. However, I do not recommend this book for someone who has had a course in dental anatomy. I initially bought the book as a study aid for part one of the dental national boards. Having had dental anatomy coursework, as well as other courses which used the same information as a foundation, I found the reinforcement of terms I already knew to be rather tedious. I think that if I had found it before starting dental school though, it would have been much more valuable to me. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Student`s review
Excellent book featuring:

* "picturesque" explaining (almost like a comic book), no clinical photography present though

* step by step instructions how to do it, with every material, bur or other used instrument explained in detail. Detail is what is great about this book - you can reconstruct every phase of the procedure to the last detail.

* fluidly written and easily understandable emphasizing the practice with all theoretical knowledge needed provided

Overall it is a great book for students which want to get a general knowledge about practice and theory of fixed prosthodontics in dentistry. Great beginners and advanced user book. (My mother who is a specialist of prosthodontic find it useful after years and years of practice). Only complaint - there were not any real clinical cases and clinical photography.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dental Assistant Graduate
I just wanted to respond to the only review on this book. It is a dictionary not a picture book. If you want pictures you'll want to look at Delmars Dental Assisting or another book teaching dental. This book has most of the words I needed to find while attending college. It is for definition of dental terminology, great for students.

3-0 out of 5 stars adequate, but not spectacular
As the title implies, this book is a dictionary, nothing more. I was sorely disappointed to find out that there were no pictures, diagrams, or illustrations in this book whatsoever. It does include almost every word you could think of for a dental reference, but I hoped it would have more on the morphology and anatomy of teeth. For instance, if someone wondered what a marginal ridge was, it would tell them, but without a picture to show where they are, it is very hard to grasp the concept. I would not reccommend this book for someone looking for clarification of oral structures, only for people who only want to know what something is, not where. ... Read more

Book Description

The presentation of a newly recognized syndrome, which commonly occurs in athletes and participants in sports at all levels. Although the symptoms are familiar to those working in the field, they are often treated independently and their collective cause goes unrecognized. This text presents the evidence for looking at the group of symptoms involved and treating them as a single syndrome with a single cause -- biomechanical malignment. Recognition of the cause among sports trainers and physios will also help them to give appropriate training and treatment to correct the malalignment and so prevent the occurrence of the syndrome. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars How to diagnose and correct malalignment syndrome
The author has compiled 10 years of research to give us a very clear and complete picture of the malalignment syndrome. This is a common syndrome and affects the majority of school children and adults. It involves distortion of the pelvic ring and associated changes in the configuration of the vertebrae. It is also characterized by asymmetrical range of movement, soft tissue tension, and muscle strength.
Fortunately, there are 3 common presentations and the tests to determine the diagnosis are not difficult.
This book contains in depth details of etiology and the clinical presentations of these patterns.
The correction of these patterns are fairly easy to learn. There are 3 techniques for correction: MET (muscle energy techniques), traction, and leverage techniques.
These can be taught and completed at home so the realignment can be maintained independently.
The author stresses that treatment not only involves the skill of the practitioner. Success is dependent on the efforts of the patient. It must be considered a long term commitment to achieve success.
Traditional methods of treating the symptoms will ultimately fail if the malalignment is not diagnosed and corrected. For that reason, massage, adjustments and modalities provide temporary relief at best.
Initially, it is hoped that individuals be assessed by a health professional with the expertise to deal with the complete picture. This practitioner can teach techniques of self diagnosis and correction as outlined in the textbook.
Doctors, physiotherapists and other health care practitioners, athletes and the general populace will find the knowledge invaluable. It will remain a respected reference and essestial guide for all of us. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars top-of-the-line text
What can I say? This textbook is strikingly well-written. Really, a monumental achievement. The writing is incisive, interesting, even fascinating. For those who thought periodontics was basically scaling and root planing, an odyssey through this book's 1,000 pages shows otherwise. The illustrations are well-chosen and informative, and the quality of scholarship is consistently excellent throughout its 77 chapters. It exhausts every topic related to periodontology, from flap surgery to the microbiology of the inflammatory response, to basic s/rp therapy, to the logic of hand instrumentation, and is very up-to-date. Probably the best textbook on the subject. The accompanying CD-Rom was not too useful, mostly pretty pictures and captions, but it's the text that counts. Revelations stud the pages and the book presents a solid overal paradigm of modern periodontics. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Questions were worded like CDA State Exam
I have purchased this book and also went through an accredited course. A lot if these questions were NOT covered in my class study. Questions on the state exam were worded like the book...so you had to think and eliminate. I would like to know where they get the information to print questions in this book. Items in the book not covered in the classroom leave me no place to look for the explanation of an answer to know for sure it was correct.

My disk in the back was defective and I am trying to get it replaced.

1-0 out of 5 stars Did not contain adequate or correct test prep questions.
The book was supposed to contain test prep questions which would help to get a good score on the CDA test. When I took the test, I saw very few questions and subject material from the test prep book. As a result, I was shocked and distressed during the test and feel that I may not have passed because of it. I did like the computer disk & program that came with it - but it was worthless because the questions on the actual test weren't the ones in the book. Very dissappointing. I did like Amazon's prompt shipping and pricing. Will buy Amazon again. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book Everyone Should Read
I found this book to be well written and easy to understand. I know it inflames the dental community, but I have found that in medicine, as well as dentistry, there are always people who are brave enough to speak out. Although this book mostly covers root canal & cavitations, I can remember the first doctors who were brave enough to tell us that mercury amalgams were not safe--they were crucified by their fellow dentists. Now, most dentists have quietly started using composite fillings rather than mercury. They say it is because they are new and there is nothing wrong with mercury, but I do believe they know the truth and just do not want to admit error or deal with the lawyers. This happens alot in medicine too. For years, the anit-vaccine people were screaming that the polio vaccine was causing polio and the medical community screamed back that they were nuts. Again without admitting they were wrong, they now give a polio vaccine by injection first to prevent polio from the oral vaccine. I am an RN, so I do believe in controlled studies, but I also can use my brain and know when things just make sense. This book makes alot of sense. All the research money goes to people who run with the popular crowd, so that is the side we will always see researched and printed in the newspaper. I say, read this book and think for yourself. Knowledge is power. We all have the right to do what we think is best with our bodies. I read this stuff because I am tired of the experts telling me not to worry my pretty little head about such complicated information--they will read it all for me and tell me what to do. This is a good read!

1-0 out of 5 stars Provacative and inflammatory
It seems that after reading this book one would be inclined to take drastic action, like extracting thier OWN valuable teeth. Teeth need root canal treatment beacause they are infected in the first place. Most of the time, the infection is totally removed (85-95%). Yes there are instances where this infection is resolved, in which case extraction may be needed. Yes after extraction there may be bacteria left behind so what then....extract your whole jaw???? (did some one forget to mention that we have an immune system that has been dealing with bacteria, fungi and viruses for long before dentistry was around). Okay so our jaw is removed and some of the naturally occuring bacteris on our skin (yes our skin is not sterile) gets into the wound. Then what, ask for a decapitation? This seems to be the line of though given by the aurthor/s and it is totaly irrational.

Example 2. You get a scratch on your arm and yes bacteria get in, the skin heals over and traps the bacteria....what would the aurthor suggest...an amputation of your arm? Or doest he think he can pluck out microscopic bacteria (that are too small for see) with tweezers. Non-sense.

Our body parts are valuable, we have an immune system that fights bacteria and heals wounds/infections. We have marvelous doctors and dentists that can help the body beat these problems..so we can keep our body parts. Natural teeth are better that articfical anything.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ripping the Fabric of Denial
This book is excellent at 1) establishing evidence that there is a signifcant problem and 2) that the system is in full blown denial about it. I would recommend it to anyone who is curious about the downside of root canals. Root canals are covered extensively but amalgram toxicity is only briefly touched upon. A detailed explanation of cavitations(little bits of gangrenous tissue left from extracted teeth)is also covered. A extensive explanation of the status quo is given. There are biopsy reports, testimonials and scientific abstracts cited. The authors seem quite dedicated.

That said, I must admit I don't love this book. While I'm now convinced that a bad root canal can be deadly I didn't get any sense of proportion from the book. If every single root canal was as deadly as charged people would be keeling over right and left. I'm usually part of the "don't take a chance" coalition but the only alternative offered is extraction, and a particularly deep and extensive one at that. There was no emphasis on getting new research or better diagnostic tools. But what was really disturbing was the sense that teeth had no value. They are to be gotten rid of at the least sign of deep infection. And there is no section on dealing with good altenatives. The authors never really state what replaces the extracted teeth - dentures? implants? baby food?

All in all, if you suspect your teeth or dental work are "not quite right" despite a clean checkup this is a good read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best health book I have read
I not only read this book, but I scheduled surgery with Dr. Kulacz to have my root canaled teeth removed shortly thereafter!
I suffered some health problems after having root canals and an extraction. Since having Dr. Kulacz perform the surgery, I am back to almost 100%. It's amazing. People, the information in this book is vital to you if you have had dental problems. For those of you considering having surgery with him, I found the entire staff very kind and caring. I had much drilling on both sides of my mouth, and yet did not need much pain meds afterward. It was my body's way of thanking me for getting rid of all the bacteria and toxins! I think this is the answer, folks!

5-0 out of 5 stars No axes to grind
Very well thought out information. I find sometimes, alternative medcial practitioners have an "axe" to grind or an anti establishment bias. I found none of that in this book. This was based on logic, studies, and experience. I have suffered from a "root canal gone bad" for over a year before I discovered this information. All the doctors and dentists just shook their collective heads while I was being poisoned by an infected root canal tooth. Even after I had it removed, the problem continued. It had tranferred to my jaw and other areas of my jaw. Without this info, I do not know where I would be at this point. I am seeking the proper care and expect a great improvement. ... Read more
