    Book Description

This concise color atlas contains more than 500 superb color illustrations to help you diagnose skin diseases fast! SKIN DISEASE: Diagnosis and Treatment provides a dual-method approach to identifying skin disease: by primary lesion and by body region. Used together, this unique approach helps clinicians narrow the diagnosis by comparing findings from each section, and provides reassurance to the non-specialist diagnostician. More than 250 common diseases are arranged alphabetically, covered in a concise, 2-page format with bulleted text on the left and color photographs and distribution diagrams on the right. Color tabs direct readers to specific sections. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars By far the best for your money!
I use this book in my primary care clinic all the time, and it's enormously useful -- much better than Fitzgerald. It has good pictures of the typical presentations, not only the most severe cases. The pictures of the usual distribution of lesions are also very helpful. The recommendations for treatment are clearly laid out. I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great photos, great dermatological synopsis
Those practitioners looking for a good overview of many dermatological conditions, with up to date treatments have found a pear in this Habib edition. This book stays on my desk or in a room - where I peruse through pictures or show patients pictures of others with their condition. Most dermatological atlas or text are incredibly expensive. The price makes this edition a MUST BUY.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pediatric dermatology
This heavy textbook in pediatric dermatology is edited by professors Lawrence A Schachner from University of Maimi School of Medicine and Ronald C Hansen from the University of Arizona School of Medicine with five associate editors and 85 international contributors.
It is a beautiful textbook divided into eight parts: Basic science, neonatal and inherited disorders, diseases of mucous membranes, reaction patterns, neoplasms and systemic diseases, infections and infestations, injuries, and drug eruptions with a total of 30 chapters.
Every chapter and entry has a logical and extensive explanation with wonderful layout and color illustrations in a very instructive way, so that I can only without any reservation recommend this text as a resourcebook for every practising pediatrician. I would also suggest that every pediatric department should have this book in its library. A CD-ROM presents the more than 1,200 color pictures for slide presentations.

5-0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive dermatopathology reference; easy to read.
It took quite some time for me to choose a dermatopatholgy reference. Most of my fellow pathology residents have been using Lever's book, mainly because that's what we have available. I decided to go out on a limb and try this brand new book. I'm quite glad I did. This book is a pleasure to use. It is well written and beautifully illustrated. My only criticism is that the index and table of contents could be more helpful. By the way, my colleagues are also glad I purchased this book. I hardly get to see it anymore! ... Read more

    Book Description

The late Arthur Rook established the Textbook of Dermatology as the most comprehensive work of reference available to the dermatologist and it enjoys instant name recognition. Each subsequent edition has been expanded as the subject has developed and the book remains the ultimate source of clinical information for the trainee and practising dermatologist alike.

Rook's Textbook covers all aspects of skin disease from basic science through pathology and epidemiology to clinical practice. It has always been particularly highly regarded for its unparalelled coverage of diagnosis. Two new Editors, Dr Cox and Professor Griffiths, have been brought in to the team from complimentary backgrounds in clinical practice and research.

The seventh edition contains three completely new chapters on immunodeficiency, AIDS and skin ageing. Many chapters have been completely rewritten from scratch, for example the chapter on molecular biology was thought to be too advanced for the general reader and will be made more introductory. Whilst the book's traditional emphasis on diagnosis has been preserved, there has been an increased coverage of treatment in each of the disease chapters in response to minor criticisms that previous editions have been comparatively weak in this area. ... Book Description

Dr. Daniel J. Wallace is one of the world's leading authorities on lupus, the co-author of the leading textbook, and an eminent clinician who has treated over 2000 lupus patients, the largest such practice in America. His The Lupus Book, published in 1995, was the first book written by a leading authority specifically for patients. It immediately established itself as the most readable and helpful book on the disease. Now Dr. Wallace has completely revised The Lupus Book, incorporating a wealth of new information. This revised and expanded edition discusses the newest breakthroughs in drug treatments as well as the most recent discoveries in cellular, genetic, and immunological research--all laid out in user-friendly language that any patient could understand. Readers will discover 10 new blood tests your doctor can do, over 30 new drugs introduced since 1995, an extensive table of herbs that can be used for the disorder, and a large section on cognitive therapy and biofeedback. There are new sections on topics such as cell signaling, lupus susceptibility genes, selective cox-2 inhibitors, newer immunosuppressive therapies, and osteoporosis. And as in the first edition, the book provides absolutely lucid answers to such questions as: What causes lupus? How and where is the body affected? Can a woman with lupus have a baby? And how can one manage this disease? There is also a glossary of terms and an appendix listing lupus resource materials. Over a million Americans have lupus and some tens of thousands of patients die every year from the disease. The new edition of The Lupus Book offers these patients and their families a wealth of reliable, up-to-date information that will help them manage the disease and live a happier life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book on the subject!
I was diagnosised with Lupus 27 yrs ago at age 17. Since then, I have literally seen 100's of Drs, most of whom were, to be kind, not very knowledgeble about SLE. This book has been instrumental in getting me the care and treatment that I need. I take it with me to nearly all Drs appointments and have given copies of it to Drs who need the information that it contains to competently treat my illness.

If you're looking for a factual, well written and easy to understand book about Lupus, to either read yourself or to give to family and friends, this is the book you've been looking for.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most comprehensive lupus book available
The Lupus Book offers detailed information about lupus that is helpful for the newly diagnosed patient or, like my mother, for a lupus survivor of more than 20 years. It has become a "lupus Bible" for my mother and me, even after all the books we've read about lupus over the last 25 years. The book includes example anecdotes, useful information on treatments, and VITAL clinical information for each body system involved. Another Amazon.com customer recommended this book, and I am so grateful--we discovered a life-saving diagnostic procedure through this book that my mother's doctors had not intended to run. If you think you're getting the best care possible for your lupus, read this book and be certain of it. I can't recommend this book highly enough--it is quite literally life-preserving information for the chronically ill lupus patient.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Lupus Book
This is a great book for newly diagnosed Lupus patients. I have learned so much about the disease, and this book has answered alot of my questions about everything from skin rashes to lupus and pregnancy. The information is logically categorized and written in plain English....no medical double-talk here. Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars LUPUS PATIENT REFERRAL
AS NEWLY DIAGNOSED LUPUS PATIENT, THIS BOOK HAS BEEN OF GREAT ASSISTANCE TO ME. YOU CAN READ IT IN THE ORDER OF THE QUESTIONS THAT YOU HAVE, OR FROM COVER TO COVER.

In a week I had the blessing of a lupus diagnosis, a Dr who cared and meds that made a world of difference. I highly recomend their books to sufferers of lupus as well as their friends and family. They are the best in their feild, passionate in their work, and if you are not lucky enough to be their patient you can still be lucky enough to read their wise words.great aid in educating loved ones ... 4-0 out of 5 stars reference not textbook
This is a great book ,it used as a standard text book by generations of dermatologists in INDIA , the text flows like a story , the pictures are very good (especially the CD ROM version)and the information is exaustive.
There is just one problem the information is too exaustive --- 4 volumes and 3700 pages--at this rate it will soon overtake encyclopedia britannica-- a dermatology residents nightmare when it comes to exams--the sole advantage of the size it awes many non dermatologists . My only request to the authors is they come out with a more concise edition , sparing us all the past theories of etio-pathogenesis which have been disproved now anyway, syndromes from single/two case reports of rare presentations giving us clear cut guidelines with regards to treatment on the basis of their personal clinical experience .

4-0 out of 5 stars CD ROM VERSION--TEXTBOOK
The CD ROM VERSION is great , with very clear pictures which zoom on double clicking , a very good search engine , a navigator and the text in different colours and backgrounds .Easy to print ,is worth having, only the cost is a bit high.I would certainly recommend the CD ROM version to those who are planning to buy the book .

5-0 out of 5 stars The encyclopedic bible of urology
This book is the most extensive single source of urologic information available. It covers all basic aspects of urology in a fairly complete manner. The main drawbacks are:
1)Reference authors quoted directly in text. This makes the book fairly diffcult to read in a fluid manner and adds extra length to the already lengthy text. Gillenwater is a much more readble text.
2)Some chapters need a better overall framework. The best example of this is the chapter on adrenal pathology which does not provide a very good thorough to the asymptomatic adrenal mass, by far the most common adrenal problem.
3)Often excessive discussion regarding all the studies for and against an issue. I feel that it would be better to state that an issue is unresolved and then list some appropriate ways of attacking the problem.
4)Certain chapters are written in the 1st person. The chapter on the technique of radical retropubic prostatectomy is a personal account and not a reference chapter. MAny innovations from other centers are missing making this chapter somewhat biased.

Overall an excellent and authoratative view or urology

5-0 out of 5 stars The bible of Urology....
If you need to know urology, then you need this set of book. This edition is set up very well. The 4 books make it easier to look up info. It covers all the major topics in urology and is as up to date as any book can be.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book in urology
This is indeed the best urological textbook, or better to call it the bible of urology , I can not wait for the next edition

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and Excellent
This is a thourough urology review, meanwhile contains contraversial aspects in your front.

5-0 out of 5 stars The basis for any urology library
Medicine is obviously a rapidly evolving field and most medical texts receive a periodic retooling. All revisions should be as thorough and meaningful as the Seventh edition of Campbell's. The text has been sucessfully expanded where appropriate and each section further honed. Figures are elegant, pertinent, and well rendered. The references are all encompassing and as current as one can expect in a volume such as this. If there are any hesitations about updating from the sixth edition (which was also a vast improvement from the fifth) I hope to assuage them, encourage the reader and congratulate the authors. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars more text than callen atlas, same high quality images!
definitely more useful as a reference than a picture only atlas. text gives an adequate introduction, but usually only a superficial examination of the topic to be discussed. definitely overstates the association of alcohol with various dermatologic conditions -- likely due to where the author practices.

5-0 out of 5 stars the quintessential atlas of dermatology- best one ever
this is the grandfather of illustrated dermatology atlas'. This book will be a valued member of your diagnostic tools --good for board review also. Full of color illustrations -- a must for any medical practitioner -- a bit expensive but worth every penny. an accompanying Slide kit is also available. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars An Advanced Look at Veterinary Dermatology
This book contains all the information a practitioner would need to practice high quality veterinary dermatology. However, it may be too advanced for many general practitioners who may want to look at more clinically minded books. This book is well referenced and the use of the references is accurate. When the experience of the authors is used it is clear to the reader. The most problamatic chapters have to do with the structure and function of skin, where the author tends to shift subjects and alternates the detail to which the subject is covered - sometimes in the same sentance! ...
