    Book Description

Formerly titled, Wilson's Syndrome -- The Miracle of Feeling Well, this book describes a recently discovered reversible thyroid problem.

If you're suffering from symptoms of low thyroid function, and your thyroid blood tests are normal, that may mean that your symptoms are curable! Many patients with symptoms like Fatigue, Depression, Fluid Retention, Easy weight gain, PMS, Headaches, Migraines, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Itchiness, Insomnia, and many others, respond very well to the right kind of thyroid medicine given in the right way, even when their thyroid tests are normal. And more importantly, the symptoms often remain improved even after the treatment’s been discontinued.

This thyroid problem, Wilson’s Thyroid Syndrome, is reversible in the same way that certain female hormone problems are reversible. For example, some women with irregular periods can be cycled on birth control pills for several months to regulate their bleeding. Then, when they are weaned off the pill, their periods often remain regular even after the pill’s been discontinued.Wilson’s Thyroid Syndrome is a similar reversible hormone imbalance that affects the thyroid system instead of the female hormone system.

This book is an excellent description of the syndrome and its manifestations and introduces the treatment of WTS.It fully explains what it feels like to have WTS so people can get a very good idea of whether or not they think they may be suffering from it.

If people do believe that they may have the condition, the Doctor’s Manual for Wilson’s Thyroid Syndrome explains the treatment protocol in complete detail. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It Gave Me Back My Life
Dr Wilson's book and a Doctor that listened to me gave me back my life. About 4 years ago I sold my business because I was to sick to continue. I decided I needed to go on a seach to find out what was wrong with me. My health was at the point that I thought I was dying and all the doctors I went to couldn't figure out what was causing my problems. I even thought maybe I was going crazy it must all me in my mind. I was doing all the right things resting, taking time for me to heal and recoup, eating right, taking vitamins and I just kept getting worse. I was exhausted had mood swings, depression, anxiety and panic attacks where I was afraid to leave my house. Nightmare, headaches. Just to name a few of the things I was plegded with. I then found Doctors Wilsons web site and read all I could. Sent for his books and headed for my Doctors, saying I think I found what is wrong with me. She and I went on a learning journey together. I began Dr Wilson methods and about 6 months later was on the road to a life that I had forgotten about. It took a while to get healthly, but it did happen. I continue to do great and hope that everyone that hears about Wilson's Syndrome will give it a try and fine the life out there that is theres to enjoy. ... . ... . Good Luck

Dr. Wilson explains how DTSF/decreased thyroid system function can cause numerous debilitating symptoms, strikingly similar to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and not show up on routine blood tests. He explains how treatment with the active hormone T3 using his protocol has provided therapy to many patients. Case studies and discussion of symptoms are provided.

A Doctor's manual is also available which provides complete detail for treating Wilson's Syndrome.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Breath of Fresh Air!
I found this book to be a very timely breath of fresh air.

While reading the introduction I experienced a sense of clarity and relief that someone is telling the truth! Thank you!

As I delved more deeply into the book and began to recognize defininte symptoms of hormone imbalance in my body, I decided to take a clearer look at my lifestyle - diet, exercise, and long-held attitudes and beliefs about breast cancer, the medical establishment,
and the impact of the individual and collective physical, emotional, and spiritual environment on health.

In following some of the practical advice found within these pages and implementing some simple changes in diet and nutritional supplementation, as well as using a pure natural progesterone cream, I am experiencing higher quality of life.

This well researched and clearly written book made a powerful and positive impact on me. I highly recommend it for all women who want a consciousness raising experience (!) and encourage them to share it with their primary healthcare providers.

Thank you, Dr. Lee, Virginia, and David Zava, for your good work.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Truth is Finally Told!
Finally a book on breast cancer that explains the REAL causes: (1)environmental exposure to toxic chemicals like pesticides and petroleum products that mimic our own natural hormones, estrogen specifically; (2) nutritional deficiencies from eating junk food that allow these toxic chemicals to inhibit normal detoxification mechanisims that take place in the Liver and Gastrointestinal tract; (3) taking prescription drugs which amount to synthetic derivations of our natural hormones, which inhibit normal cellular communication and can damage our DNA, resulting in formation of hormone-driven tumors; (4) chronic emotional stress which uses up our B-vitamins, essential fatty acids and other essential nutrients needed to maintain our immune and detoxification systems, as mentioned above.
Dr. Lee is a hero and a mentor. I highly recommend that ANYONE interested in the REAL causes of breast, ovarian, uterine and prostate cancers, AND how to prevent them, should read this book, and the two previous books by Dr. Lee, on Menopause and Premenopause, both available on this website!
More and more people are waking up....and beginning to understand the horrible mistake we made by trusting large corporations (drug companies)that place profits before people. Reading books by Dr. Lee will educate us and show us how with a little time reading, we can learn how to take care of ourselves while living in a world that is run by corporations trying their hardest to destroy us!
Read and share this book with those you love!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read For Every Women, Young and Old
Everyone who has had breast cancer or who has a loved one with breast cancer should read this book. In fact, every woman should read this book because it tells the truth about breast cancer, the politics behind the treatment of breast cancer, and tells you how to prevent it. Prevention isn't profitable, so we aren't going to learn about it in the doctors office. This is an in-depth look at a subject that until now hasn't been addressed at the level of hormones and diet. As they point out, the folks who put on "Breast Cancer Awareness" month claim that breast cancer can't be prevented. It can, and you'll understand why and how after you read this book. It's time that women took control of their health by being aware and educated, and this book is a great step in that direction. It's well-written, easy to understand and very thorough on the subject of breast cancer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Reader Beware
As the husband of a 40 year old woman with stage 1 breast cancer, I found this book to be disturbing and irresponsible in its presentation.

I was hoping for clarity and factual analysis as well as recomendations based on a balanced view of where the state of treatment is today relative to breast cancer.

What I found was a misuse of statistics and generalizations that can deeply wound the psyche of any women experiencing the trauma of breast cancer.

An unbiased view with balanced reporting was what I was expecting. I cannot keep this book in my home nor advise anyone to purchase it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Information That EVERY Woman Should Know

Knowledge is POWER and this book can empower you to begin to take control of your health and hopefully reduce your breast cancer risk. 5-0 out of 5 stars A good overview with details available
I thought I knew how to handle high cholesterol, but this book taught me stuff I didn't know I didn't know. Besides a good treatment on self-help options, it has a nice overview of different cholesterol-lowering drugs that gives me the language to be able to discuss these issues intelligently with my doctor. She writes in a friendly, accessible style but still goes into fairly good detail about specific items that are easy to skip if they don't pertain. (For example, I thought her advice on how to handle a cigarette addiction was great, but I don't smoke.)

5-0 out of 5 stars She does it again!
Mary McGowan,M.D., well known and highly respected expert on the treatment of lipids, previously wrote an extremely helpful book titled: "Heartfitness for Life".(Read the customer reviews for that book!). Among the many areas she covers are treatment for homocysteine, for which many physicians don't bother to test, and for LPa,which is "badder" than the "bad" cholesterol,LDL. Too many physicians have no idea what LPa is, and some actually argue against testing for it, as they have no idea how to treat it. In this her latest book, she adds additional information on lowering LPa. The book is full of new, clearly explained practical information. I can't recommend it too highly, for anyone, beginner or long time learner having concerns about their lipid status. It should be required reading for cardiologists, internists, and family physicians, who could use this book as a resource for their patients, and in many cases for themselves. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Thyroid Book that Moves Beyond the Gland to the Whole Body
Graves Disease: A Practical Guide should become the gold standard for thyroid patients and their families. Like other popular books on Graves disease, Moore's maps out the basic Graves symptoms, Graves Opthalmopathy, diagnostic procedures, and treatment options. That's where the comparison ends. Unlike the other books I've encountered, this one ventures into more complex territory, and does it well. For example, instead of the standard single page on the nature of autoimmunity, Moore gives us a chapter that starts with the basics and gets detailed. She tells us what the immune system is; she clearly discusses antigens, antibodies, and autoantibodies in a way that allows the Graves patient to actually understand the intricate misfirings that result in disease. Nifty little illustrations let us see that antigen and the binding antibody. Any thyroid patient knows that our favorite refrain is, "the thyroid affects every cell in the body." This book might not hit every cell, but sure gives us a run at it: we learn about the various hormones and how Graves affects them, about vitamin deficiencies that go hand-in-hand with Graves and how those deficiencies play out upon our bodies, we're treated (yes, treated, considering the clear cut prose) to a lesson in the anatomy of the thyroid. In addition, Moore ventures where others are afraid to go, offering the latest theories of how the environment and hereditary play out together in the development of thyroid disease. She also incorporates alternative medicine into her discussion of treatment options through the testimonials of people who have employed alternative methods with or without allopathic treatment. The end result of this well-written and thoroughly researched book is that the newly diagnosed can read this and know precisely what is happening inside of their bodies and become fully informed on their treatment and lifestyle options.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Informative and Helpful Book about Graves'
I recommend this be the first book read by everyone (and their family and concerned friends) who has recently been diagnosed with Graves' Disease.

Diagnosed just a few months ago, the indepth and well researched information presented in this book by Elaine Moore has helped me considerably to understand what is happening to me and to choose and manage my treatment with more confidence, rather than getting frustrated with more web searches and/or blindly depending on what the doctors tell me. There is information in this book that I have not found in any other book on the subject (or the web) and certainly not from any of the 4 doctors I've already consulted with.

Get this book first! Don't make the same mistake I did by spending all that time on fustrating web searches and money on other books, and still wondering and worrying about my situation. Search the web and get the other books later but start with Elaine Moore's Graves' Disease: A Practical Guide. Your mind and body will benefit from it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Thorough but biased view of the disease
I bought this book when I was first diagnosed with Graves Disease. It provides a great deal of information, but the section on personal stories does not provide a wide enough view of treatment options. Every story detailing a certain treatment ended badly and there was nothing good to say about it. The book is generally biased against specific treatments, so I do not feel it tells the whole story.

2-0 out of 5 stars thorough but biased
Elaine's book is a thorough review of causes for this disease and some of the mainstream treatments for this disease. Her suggestion about self-care is helpful. However, her opinion is biased about RAI treatment that focused on some risks based assumptions or some selected personal stories instead of facts from large scale clinical trials. This bias might give patients a disillusion about the rate of successful remission without relapse with anti-thyroid medications which have been repeatly shown in many studies that only had modest efficacy (20-40%). The comment about the role of TSI in prediction of remission is over emphasized, which only has limited value in prediction while many other factors should be considered. Only relying on the knowledge from this book and using it as the only reference for treatment can be dangerous.

5-0 out of 5 stars If You Have Graves, Buy This Book
Whether you are new to the world of Graves or a long time patient, this book will help you make informed decisions about your treatment that will improve the quality of your life.

Elaine Moore's book, "Grave's Disease: A Practical Guide" will give you the foundation you need for understanding this baffling autoimmune disease.

The author provides a solid scientific framework for understanding Graves Disease and the many challenges facing patients. This book fills a gap for Graves patients so that they can make informed life enhancing choices about medical treatment and consequences.

Illustrated and well written, this book clarifies and illuminates the necessity for Graves' patients to be well informed and full partners in the treatment of their condition.

Ms. Moore explains this autoimmune disease that is often misdiagnosed and mistreated. Her own experience with this disease and her scientific training give her a perspective grounded in experience and professionalism.

A wise investment, this book will save many patients from making decisions that do not benefit them and help select treatment options that do.

If you have already gone through treatment for Graves, this book will help you optimize decisions about medication and review new options that may not have been presented to you.

I have learned more from Elaine Moore's book about Graves than any other. This book literally will be a lifesaver for readers fortunate enough to have it as a resource.

The author is to be commended for writing a text that will benefit both patient and provider. ... Read more

    Book Description

Your thyroid gland influences almost every cell and organ in your body because its general function is to control your metabolism. If your thyroid is functioning correctly, your metabolism should be normal. If your thyroid is working too hard, your metabolism is too high, and the result can be anything from an increased body temperature to an elevated heart rate. When your thyroid function drops below normal, so does your metabolism – you may gain weight, feel tired, and experience digestive problems and depression.

Anyone who wants to understand the big role of the little gland in the front of the neck can look to Thyroid For Dummies for a common sense approach to figuring out

    • Causes of thyroid conditions
    • Symptoms related to thyroid problems
    • Treatment options
    • Consequences of going without treatment
    • Ways to help a loved one get back to the best of health

Realizing the importance of a healthy thyroid and identifying an unhappy thyroid are basics in managing one of the more common diseases in the world. Research has indicated that thyroid disease affects more than 200 million people worldwide. With Thyroid For Dummies, you can

    • Explore how the thyroid dysfunction influences your mood.
    • Determine the size, shape, and content of your thyroid gland.
    • Understand what's happening when your thyroid works overtime or slacks off.
    • Discover whether you're at risk.
    • Look at the latest developments in diagnosis and treatment.
    • Clarify the thyroid-weight connection.
    • Deal with thyroid conditions in children.

About half (perhaps even more) of all the people with thyroid disorders are undiagnosed. 5-0 out of 5 stars Hyperthyroid/Graves patients NEED to read this book
I am a 4+ year Graves disease veteran who is currently in remission. I strongly believe that EVERY newly diagnosed person should read this book BEFORE they make any decision on any PERMANENT treatment procedure such as surgery or radioactive iodine ablation (RAI).

Dr. Rubin takes the often confusing subject of thyroid disease and makes it easily understandable to the newly diagnosed. Every person with a diagnosed thyroid disorder SHOULD be reading this book and educating themselves about their disease!

Misinformation is abundant when it comes to thyroid disease. Dr. Rubin makes no bones about HIS preference for treatment of hyperthyroidism/Graves disease and lays out his well thought out, logical, reasons behind HIS preference for treatment with anti-thyroid meds very well (page 73). I was thrilled to see this recommendation as this was the route I chose...and fought to continue using for 4 years...with success in the form of total remission after 4.3 years of anti-thyroid medication.

Thank you Dr. Rubin for speaking up and telling it like it is about anti-thyroid medication...that you CAN take it for as long as you need it...that there is NO time frame limit for these meds, and the adverse reaction risk is very low. You're my hero!

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped us make this important and rather emotional decision
My life partner has been battling with Hyperthyroidism for 15 years, going on and off PTU and in and out of remission. Her latest annual blood work indicated that she was Hyper again which re-opened the dialog about what treatment to choose (Drug therapy, Radioactive Iodine, or Surgery).

Thyroid for Dummies provided a detailed yet very readable review of what the function the Thyroid glad is, Thyroid disorders, treatment options, etc. If you are facing a decision point about treatment for a thyroid disorder or have Thyroid wellness concerns then I think you will find this book very helpful and informative as we did.

In the end we choose Radioactive Iodine treatment. The unbiased facts and wealth of information provided helped us make this important and rather emotional decision in a manner that enabled us to move forward with confidence. Of note, the author Dr. Rubin prefers drug therapy as the first mode of treatment for Graves Disease. As this had already been tried in our case and did not provide a predictable and sustainable treatment we choose Radioactive Iodine over surgery.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thyroid for Dummies

Thyroid for Dummies answered all my questions, and gave me all the information I needed to understand what I was going through. After reading this book, I know more about the thyroid gland than I did before! The book is written in easy to understand language, and uses humor which put my mind at ease. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with thyroid disease, anyone undergoing thyroid surgery, and anyone who just wants to know more about their thyroid gland. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive textbook.
The layout of this book make it very easy to use as a textbook or reference source. The clinical examples are very useful to those with a medical interest. The author offers a comprehensive, no nonsense aproach that gets the job done.

2-0 out of 5 stars brevity is the soul of wit, and this ain't it
I was forced to buy this book for a mixed undergrad and graduate endo course. While this book is long on info, it really doesn't work for the course I am taking.... I often reference my biochem and cell bio texts in order to get the full picture. Hadley is also overly wordy, to the point that it can get cumbersome and confusing.

4-0 out of 5 stars teacher review
This is a very good book with a lot of state of the art information. It will need some understanding of endocrinology or a good basic course in physiology to get the benefits. It would improve, probably, with an approach to the study of the hormones based on the physiological process being under regulation.

    3-0 out of 5 stars A potpourri of.....stuff.
One thing's for sure. You read this book from cover to cover and you'll be one knowledgable student. It's loaded with information about endocrinology. Unfortunately, it's also loaded with extraneous information, some of which is most likely irrelevant to what your endocrinology professor is trying to teach, i.e. human endocrinology. Moreover, this excess info makes you have to search long and hard to get to the information you're looking for! But in general, it's a good book. I give it two snaps up and a circle.

3-0 out of 5 stars mediocre book, but a leader in comparative endocrinology
I found this book to be rather scattered in organization and poorly written. Color text and/or diagrams would improve the look and readability of the book. As a general endocrinology text, I would not recommend it. However, despite its shortcomings, it IS probably one of the best comparative endocrinology books on the market and should be a valuable addition to a comparative physiologist's library. ...
