5-0 out of 5 stars The current Gold Standard
Riding on the success of the landmark book Hodgkin's Disease, Mauch et al. compile the current standard reference in Non-Hodgkin's Lymphomas (NHL). With articles by experts from around the world in their fields, this book is a valuable reference in all aspects of lymphoma diagnosis, treatment, and late effects. As NHL is actually many different forms of cancer, section 4 on different subtypes is especially good as few lymphoma resources get into that level of detail.

While the book is aimed more towards the medical profession, it is also very valuable to those patients and their loved ones looking for the very latest, specific information on lymphomas. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This book was very well written. As a person with APS there isn't much information on the disease out there. I even got my doctor to read the book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing short of excellent!
Not long ago, my wife was diagnosed with "possible MS." The symptoms were there, and my wife and I prepared for life with this new situation. However, recently, this diagnosis has been overturned in favor of "antiphospholipid syndrome" or Hughes Syndrome. This condition is characterized by the sufferer's blood clotting too easily, resulting in a number of symptoms, many of them quite serious.

In this wonderful book, Dr. Graham Hughes of St. Thomas' Hospital, London (and the man for whom this syndrome is named) gives the lay-reader and doctor alike a clear and concise understanding of what this syndrome is, what its effects are, and what treatments are currently available. Though quite short (63 pages), it is jam-packed with easy-to-read information, which is well organized, and complete with some excellent illustrations and many case studies. The case studies go a long way towards giving the reader a clear idea of what having Hughes Syndrome means to those suffering from it.

My wife and I are very glad we got this book. It is truly nothing short of excellent. Plus (as previously pointed out), its price is quite modest compared to the other Hughes Syndrome books currently available. If you or anyone you knows has been diagnosed as having Hughes Syndrome, then I highly recommend that you purchase this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
As a patient who's been diagnosed with Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome since 1994, also known at Hughes Syndrome, I found this to be the ONLY book written for patients and their families on this subject. The price, compared to the other books on this disease, which are doctor focused, is fantastic.

In an easy to read style, Dr. Hughes describes this auto-immune disease completely. This is a great book for both patients and their families. I recommend this highly. ... Read more

Book Description

Plasmas and their interaction with materials have become subjects of major interest because of their importance in modern forefront technologies such as microelectronics, fusion energy, and space. Plasmas are used in microelectronics to process semiconductors (etching of patterns for microcircuits, plasma-induced deposition of thin films, etc.); plasmas produce deleterious erosion effects on surfaces of materials used for fusion devices and spaceships exposed to the low earth environment.
Diagnostics of plasmas and materials exposed to them are fundamental to the understanding of the physical and chemical phenomena involved. Plasma Diagnostics provides a comprehensive treatment of the subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars I have no reservation to recommend this book
Like its highly successful predecessor, the Third Edition of Handbook of Dialysis effectively integrates all the essential and clinically relevant information in the dialysis therapy. It is written by the leaders in this field and the layout is in an easy-to-read format. It is easy to locate what you need, whether you are reading for first-time knowledge, for review, or for support during an emergency. I have no reservation to recommend this book for all readers who are interested in dialysis therapy.

5-0 out of 5 stars best dialysis book
this is a rich review of the art of hemodialysis, written by one of the leaders in the field. it is easy to understand and it covers all the aspects of the dialysis. it is a must have book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bible for Any Dialysis Patient
"The Handbook of Dialysis" is a must have for anyone who is a patient on dialysis or who is the caretaker of someone on dialysis. This book is written with a Nephrologist or Nephrology nurse in mind, but patients and caretakers can learn a great deal as well. It explains the whole dialysis process including reuse, vascular accesses, anticoagulation, nutrition, infections, sleep disorder, etc. The dialysis process affects one's whole system.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for any nephrologist in training
This is about the best handbook there is in the field of dialysis. It somehow manages to marry the conciseness and practicality of a handbook that can be carried around in your whitecoat and at the sametime, contains enough information that is usually only found in huge reference texts. Not only does it contain management guidelines in easy to read tables and point form, but also contains a lot more information regarding the basic physiology and scientific evidence if you care to read the appropriate sections. The downside to this is that it appears less readable when you compare it to its main "competitor", the oxford handbook series, but there again, they serve very different needs. For the non-specialist who needs a three second reference, especially someone who works in Britain, I would get the oxford handbook. If you are a nephrologist/dialysis nurse in training, you will inevitably go back to the handbook of dialysis, sooner or later.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Handbook
This is an unparalleled companion for any nephrologist. Its concise manner and clear explanations add to its brilliance. A hundred percent rating! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference book!
When I first saw this book I got scared because of the size and weight of it, but when I finally got the courage to open it and start reading it, it surprised me! I found this book to be really good and the pictures are great and help out a lot. The case studies at the end of each chapter are really great and got me to understand more and think about the content of the chapter, which by doing that helped me to remember!! Also the last part of the book: Laboratory methods, was a great help to me both in preparing for class and when it came to writing the report, the book tells you step by step how the procedures are done. I will always keep this book for reference as I know it will help in during my career as a lab technongist. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Peripheral Blood Morphology Reference Book
This is an excellent reference book for those learning to evaluate peripheral blood smears. There are sections for each cell type that focus on morphological characteristics of each maturational stage utilizing written characteristics, photomicrographs and an illustrated line drawing that labels all of the distinguishing features. This is invaluable for the learner. There are also separate sections on comparative morphology, enabling the learner to distinguish cell types that are similar (blasts vs reactive lymphs for example). Examples of many RBC and PLT morphological variants are also noted.

I have used this book extensively for training of Clinical Laboratory Scientists and Pathology Residents, and recommend it highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource and instructional tool
This is one of the finest atlases of peripheral blood cells I've ever seen. The photomicrographs are clear and definitive and the verbal and visual comparisons to aid in differentiation are excellent. Well organized and easy to find what you are looking for. Because the author used actual photomicrographs rather than drawings, she put this atlas head and shoulders above the competition.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Complete atlas of blood cells, A MUST!!

Book Description

Diagnostic Hematology is a comprehensive guide to the laboratory diagnosis of blood and bone marrow diseases, including the use of flow cytometry for immunologic subclassification of leukemias and lymphomas. It presents a logical and systematic approach to diagnosis, based on the patterns derived from peripheral blood analysis, flow cytometry immunophenotyping studies and bone marrow examination. The book presents each diagnostic problem as it would be investigated in practice andtakes the reader step-by-step through the process of reaching the differential diagnosis. It gives advice on the proper approach to diagnostic work-up and on how to avoid common diagnostic pitfalls. The patterns formed by different blood and bone marrow disorders are described in detail and illustrated with color photomicrographs and flow cytometry graphics. A free companion CD-ROM featuring 200 actual cases allows the user to assess real test results and see the patterns which lead to the final interpretation in each case. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensible Reference Guide For Hematology Work
This is one of the most handy reference guides I have come across on diagnostic hematology. There are many color slides, all very well taken and clearly annotated. The immense effort and care the authors took in taking and choosing the color slides is immediately obvious, as all slides are presented without any ambiguities or any chance of confusion or misinterpretation.

The text itself is concise and to the point, lucidly written using very descriptive language, making for a very easy read. The layout of the book is also very appealing, and chapters are kept short, with each chapter subdivided into manageable sections. And all these without any compromise on vital information.

Apart from giving details on making correct diagnoses, commmon pitfalls to avoid are also highlighted. Manual and instrumental techniques given (eg. flow cytometry) are also highly informative.

The book comes with a Knowledge-based Systems CD-ROM covering peripheral blood analysis, flow cytometry immunophenotyping and bone marrow interpretation. There is also a list of suggested readings for more in-depth study.

It is indeed a very well-written book covering both theoretical and practical aspects of diagnostic hematology. A must-have for every library or laboratory. ... Read more
