5-0 out of 5 stars "Surefire Documentation" Review
This is a wonderful book. It was given to me to review by one of the charge nurses where I work--a long term care facility in a small town in Iowa. This text not only gives very good instruction on documentation, it is organized well. Each cover includes a quick reference guide to assist with finding specific areas of concern. It is well written and includes text boxes with more specifics and concrete examples. I have recommended it to my Director of Nursing Services as a resource that could be used in the other 2 nursing facilities in the corporation. An excellent reference text with easy to find entries! I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a ready reference. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for the experienced nurse
This is a very good book for an academic setting or for a new RN. It was not however helpful to me, a nurse with more than two decades of experience. 5-0 out of 5 stars Coder's Desk Reference
A necessary reference book if you use CPT codes on a regular basis for any reason. It helps me when I get "stuck" in choosing the right code. The book gives the "lay" description of the CPT code in all sections except lab, radiology and pathology (they have a separate book). I use this book along with other resources, including discussion with the physician, to gain insight into choosing one code over another. As an RN and coding/compliance auditor of a large physician practice, I highly recommend this book as a necessary tool for the industry!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the best
I purchased this book in preparation for the AAPC's CPC certification exam. It is easy to use and a wonderful learning tool. The tutorials give rationales for wrong answers. It was an excellent study guide. ... Read more

Book Description

Step-by-Step Medical Coding takes a practical approach to training students for a career in medical coding. It begins with an introduction to Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), followed by in-depth explanations of the sections found in the CPT manual. Several chapters, organized to follow the CPT codes by body system, introduce various procedures and demonstrate how to code each one. Practice exercises following each step of information and at the end of each unit reinforce important concepts and allow users to check their comprehension. Unit 2 covers the International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD 9-CM), and Unit 3 offers information about third party reimbursement. Appendices provide the official ICD-9-CM guidelines for coding and reporting, answers to the in-text exercises, and the documentation guidelines for E/M services. Instructor resources are available; please contact your Elsevier sales representative for details. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars No Answer Key
I purchased this book for an online medical coding and reimbursement class. Overall I was disappointed. Although the author gives good examples of coding procedures, sometimes she doesn't follow through with showing examples of some of the more complex coding rules. Most frustrating was not having an answer key for readers to check their answers to the numerous exercises... particularly since medical coding stresses "accuracy, accuracy, accuracy". The frequent hand symbol of stop! was very annoying. The book does have useful info that is clearly written. However, I would not recommend spending the money for this book without an answer key included. ...

4-0 out of 5 stars Thumbs Up for this Useful Book
As preparation for the CCS examination, I find this book to provide excellent background material on the CPT classification system and outpatient medical coding. I'm in the beginning stages of using the text; but I am immediately impressed. It seems logical, thorough, and well-organized. While the coding exercises are an aid, it is the supporting documentation that sets this book apart from other review books I have been using. I give it a high recommendation to those of you who are searching for a comprehensive, up-to-date resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars GOOD PRICE
If your going to Fairleigh Dickinson University and your taking up Medical Coding and Billing you will need this book

5-0 out of 5 stars Step-By-Step Medical Coding
This is easy to use and really works to learn medical coding. It is written so you can understand it and has a lot of questions right in the text. The answers to the questions are in the back of the book. I also got the workbook, and every other question answer is in the back of that book with hint. This really is a good book. I thought this would be hard for me to learn, but it wasn't.

5-0 out of 5 stars Teaching with Step-by-Step

3-0 out of 5 stars Difficult at first, but then got it.
I too found this book to be hard to understand at first. I thought I'd never get done with it. I decided not to let a book get the best of me so I really applied myself and soon I had the hang of it. The only thing I would have added to the book is more tests at the end.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not all that useful
If you have a bit of experience, I think this book is too basic. I've had the book for three weeks now, and I have found only one answer to my "What did he say" questions in it. The lab section is useful, however, especially since it lists normal values for many of the common tests.

5-0 out of 5 stars Want quick and easy, this is it!
I always look for ways to make my job quick and easy. With 3 boys I need to make money fast. I keep one book on my desk and it is this one. This book seems to have the common and most used terms that the typical doctors office's use as well as the things you don't hear very often from the special fields of medicine. This is absolutely the easiest reference guide I have found yet. Do yourself a favor, buy this one. It is well worth it and will definitely cut down your research time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative and helpful desk aid.
This is a must have for any transcriptionist (newbie or experienced). The information in the book is useful and easy to understand. The book provides valuable information such as frequently used lab tests, medical terminology, and physical exam terms. Book Description

While mapped data provide a common ground for discussions between the public, the media, regulatory agencies, and public health researchers, the analysis of spatially referenced data has experienced a phenomenal growth over the last two decades, thanks in part to the development of geographical information systems (GISs). This is the first thorough overview to integrate spatial statistics with data management and the display capabilities of GIS. It describes methods for assessing the likelihood of observed patterns and quantifying the link between exposures and outcomes in spatially correlated data.
This introductory text is designed to serve as both an introduction for the novice and a reference for practitioners in the field
Requires only minimal background in public health and only some knowledge of statistics through multiple regression
Touches upon some advanced topics, such as random effects, hierarchical models and spatial point processes, but does not require prior exposure
Includes lavish use of figures/illustrations throughout the volume as well as analyses of several data sets (in the form of "data breaks")
Exercises based on data analyses reinforce concepts
