5-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars to the 10th Power
All I can say is GET THIS BOOK! I wish I had it last semester, but it saved my life for anatomy at the tail end of last semester, and is carrying me through anatomy 2 and the rest of nursing school.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have for any medical student.
I'm a nursing student, and I use this book all of the time. Keep it next to you when you study, there are going to be tons of words that you don't know in your studies. Don't be the student that knows the answer but doesn't know what it means.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mosby's Dictionary
A very handy reference book for anyone in the medical profession. It allows you to find information quickly and answers basic questions about diagnoses, signs and symptoms and medical terms. It is written in clear and concise language. It has colorful and descriptive pictures. I wish I had this in nursing school years ago!! Recently, I've used it as an RN in Home Healthcare practice and as a coding/compliance auditor when reviewing documentation. Overall, it has saved me a lot of time and allowed me to look up details that I didn't know easily. I keep it with me as part of my essential books.

Wish I'd had this book 26 years ago when I was in nursing school.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mosby's Medical ,Nursing, & Allied Health Dictionary 5th Ed.
My wife bought this book at Waterstone's in England, 5 March 2001. She was using it for her Medical Transcription home study course.

The book was reliable until Thursday 29. She wanted to look up 'suture', but unbeknown to us pages 1531 to 1594 were missing.

Therefore we have a useless book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Made a HUGE difference!
I had 9 whole days to study for the NLN test. I had never taken anatomy, physics, microbiology, mechanics, electricity, and Im only half-way through chemistry. I havent had math in 20 years. So I was a bit worried when I got this book and saw how uneducated I was on the science section and how rusty I was on the math. But I read the science section 5 times and took ALL the pactice tests. I also studied every question I got wrong. There really wasn't much I could do to practice for the reading test, but taking the practice tests helped me figure out 'their style' of testing so I was better able to figure the correct answer. The bottom line is, I scored a 151 which is in the 99% - top 1% score in the country - and I couldnt have done it without this book! But just buying it isn't enough - take EVERY test in the book and if you don't know your science, read the science review as many times as you can. When you score your test, go back and find out WHY you got an answer wrong. Tip: dont circle the answers in the book, but write them on a separate piece of paper, so you can go back and take the tests again. The real test was just like the review book. Also, be aware of TIME - I used every minute during the real exam! You need to do each test in the practice book in 45 minutes.

2-0 out of 5 stars not very helpful
I devoured this book from front to back and I only scored 115. Although it gives you some review in each area covered on the exam, none of the vocabulary was what was on the test. Don't count on this as your only source. Check out a couple other review books, and good luck.

2-0 out of 5 stars RN2B--hopefully one day
I only rated this book 2 stars because I feel like it wasn't as helpful as I had anticipated. The math portion was good--the practice questions were VERY similar to what was on the test. The verbal part--maybe it's helpful if you're a slow reader and need to just "pracice" reading passages. The vocabulary on the real test didn't even compare to what was in the book. The science helped some to refresh what I had already taken in school. But it didn't cover enough re: electricy and ohms and stuff like that. A lot of questions on my test were about electricity. I felt as if I needed to take a course in that alone to be able to pass the science portion. I took the test a couple of days ago so maybe once I receive my scores I will have a different opinion. Right now, though, I wouldn't recommend anyone buying this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars You don't need any other book to prepare yourself.
This is all you need to prepare for the test. I took it on march and I did great. Of course this will be true if you are not seeing the subjects for the first time. I mean, that as a review book for preparation it is all you'll need for the NLN entrance exam.

1-0 out of 5 stars DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!!!
This book was nothing but a waste of paper and money. I will admit that the science review was somewhat helpful but the math and verbal review were a joke. Both reviews basically tell you everything you DON'T need to know. The first time I took the test I made a 144, I bought this book thinking I could raise my score a little higher and made a 119. I wouldn't recommended this book to anyone. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding book
I had the privilege of being taught by Karen Burke, one of the authors of this text book. It is an outstanding text book, giving all the information you will need. I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Nursing Students and New Grads
This was our textbook in nursing school our final year, and I often refer to it now that I am practicing as an RN. It is well organized with great illustrations and care plans. I am shopping for a second one to keep at home - so I don't have to carry it between work and home. I also highly recommend the accompanying paperback reference - especially if you are in clinicals or write care plans. It is easy to carry with you - and you can find nursing dx, interventions etc easily for many disease/conditions.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best Med-surg book ever.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very, very good. Progressive and easy to follow.
I thought this book was excellent as far as these kinds of books go...I haven't read the entire thing thus far, but it has a great chapter on complementary and alternative medicine, terrific nursing alerts, nice chapter on nursing history. There's a lot here - don't drop it on your foot! These two New Orleans nurses have definitely put a lot of thought into the organization and inclusion of material into this weighty volume! Accompanying CD is nice, but I've been told by other students that the quizzes are far too simplistic compared with the ones their instructors give them. Still, this book would make a great reference for any student or nurse who needed a refresher. I think this would be an excellent first semester text! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You need this book to study for NCLEX!!!!
Believe me when I tell you that this is "the" guide to study for NCLEX. You will pass your boards if you make dedicated reading time from this book and practice with the test disc. It will also help you if you combine it early on with your nursing studies. No other study guide compares to this one, it is worth your money!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Test Taking Strategies
I was making C's on all my tests. After I purchased this book and read the rationales for the questions and the sample test questions my grades went to A's and B's. This is a great tool for Beginning LPN students!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Raised my test scores 10%!
I purchased this CD/book a week before a comprehensive final exam. I used it three times and raised my exam score by 10%. It helped me see where I was needing to focus my attention for for studying for this test. I was having trouble with the difference between studying for an A&P exam, vs an LPN exam, vs an RN exam. I seemed to always be studying {memorizing} the wrong stuff. This helped me raise my critical thinking skills. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book!
I got this to help me during clinicals in nursing school. It has a vast amount of information that is well indexed so it is easy to find. The first time I brought it to clinicals my instructor (a nurse practitioner) took it and looked through it for about an hour. By the next day in class she had already purchased her own copy and she recommended it to the whole class.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Tool!!!
I have looked at a great many clinical nursing pocket guides and I must say this is the best. This clinical notebook is published by the same company that publishes Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary, just from this you can tell that most of the information is detailed, to the point, and easy to understand. The pad is made of waterproof resistant material and you can write on it with a ball point pen then wipe off with an alcohol swab and use it again. There is enough room to eneter information in for 5 patients. While I am not sure it will be of much use to a practicing nurse, it has proven very helpful for students.

5-0 out of 5 stars Little Book, Big Help!
I am a second-year RN student and I've found this little pocket book to be quite helpful at clinicals and at work (student nurse at a local hospital). Not only were my fellow nursing students raving about it, but my co-workers were just impressed with the content of the book and the fact that one can write pertinent info and wipe off that info when the patient is discharged.

5-0 out of 5 stars ALL- IN -ONE POCKET- SIZED REFERENCE!!! LOVE IT!!!!
I just received this little pocket lifesaver!! I am a second year RN student and have only flipped through RNotes. I wish it came out sooner and I had it last year! The book really will fit into your pocket and the fact that you can write on the pages and then wipe them off to reuse is great. This way you can change the pertinent info to the facility you happen to be having clinicals at. I will definitely reccommend this book to all my classmates and even suggest to my Dean that this book be put on the list of required texts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome reference!!!
I love RNotes very much. There is so much information right at your fingertips. It fits nicely in my scrub shirt. It can be written on and wiped clean. There are so many topics of information such as, calculations and conversions, lab values, assessment skills, emergency information, medications, and much much more. I recommend this book highly to any student nurse or "old-timer." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Updated.... complete.... excellent resource
My copy of this new edition just arrived, and I'm thrilled with it! More color, more summaries, more of everything... Certainly a nursing text book is not going to hit the Best Seller List, but this one should be on every nurse's wish list. While its target audience is nursing students, the book is a great reference for experienced nurses, too. It covers all aspects of women's health care, from well woman exams, to birth control, and pregnancy to menopause.

New additions to this, the 7th Edition, include expanded information on health and risk assessment, psychosocial issues, Spanish/English translations to facilitate care, information on alternative and complementary health care, and a CD ROM with addtiional resources, study guides, and illustrations.

The editors and contributors have provided an excellent resource for nurses involved in all phases of women's health care. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars EASY-TO-COMPREHEND POCKET GUIDE
This "Bates' Pocket Guide to Physical Examination and History Taking" is an easy-to-comprehend manual which was structured in a way that should meet the needs of both doctors and nurses. The information contained in this book are simple and straightforward; and just like the complete edition, they included paediatric coverage. The chapters of this book examined both morphological and physiological abnormalities and/or irregularities. They included several illustrative charts and tables, which facilitate comparative analyses of clinical data.
If appropriately adhered to, the supervisory procedures outlined in this book would assist medics in making correct evaluation of each case they encounter. Also worth pointing out, is the way the book paid attention to drug administration.
In all, this is a good medical adviser, which inexperienced medics should have in their lab-coat pockets.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a find!
This book is a very thorough review of the physical diagnostic exam. It provides a thorough review of systems that is brief and to the point. While not a substitute for the text, it is quick and easy to use. To top it all off, it REALLY is a perfect sized book for the pocket.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bates Pocket guide to physical exams and history taking
This is a very informative reference. I am a Hospital Corpsman in the U.S. Navy and I see a wide variety of patients on a daily basis. This guide helps me out in performing the correct exams or tests. It also helps the doctor out when he reads my write up. This allows less time for the patient in medical, less time for the doctor, so he doesn't have to see the patient. It also helps me out when a patient is presented to medical with a complaint that I have not heard of or seen yet. I have learned so much more with this book. Thank You and if you are in the medical field and see patients like I do, I recommend this book. ... Read more
