4-0 out of 5 stars Great for a fast moving program such as Health Information
As a single parent and full time student I find it difficult to keep up. My pharmacology class is packing this book into 10 weeks. The normal length of semesters is 16 weeks. Some weeks consist of 4 tests. This book has been a definite asset to my education. It is thourough, but consice educational tool. The text consists of an overall introduction of medicines and then it breaks down the medicines by body system with sub-categories of classification. The worksheets are cumbersome, but a good learning tool. I only wish I would have known I could buy this book here as it is less expensive than the college bookstore! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars filled with errors
This book is filled with errors. The very first week I had it in class, I noticed several just in the genetics chapter alone! I was hoping to have an OB book to keep as a reference when I'm done with nursing school, but I don't feel that I'd be able to trust this book. If I found many errors in an area that I'm familiar with, how many errors are there that I'm unable to discern since I'm not yet familiar with that material? Many of my classmates found additional errors, and also feel that the book is untrustworthy. It's too bad, because I'm sure that the book does contain worthwhile information. I'm sorry that I wasted the money on this book. I plan to invest my money in a medical OB book instead. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dosage Calculations Made Incredibly Easy
This book truly does make learning how to calculate drug dosages very easy. It takes each step of each type of problem and explains in understandable terms how to set up the calculation and how to solve it. The book is filled with sample calculations and problems for the reader to solve. At the same time that it is a learning tool, it is easy to read and entertaining. It covers all types of calculations even dimensional analysis, explains drug labels, and helps the nurse avoid making drug calculation errors. Great book!

5-0 out of 5 stars worth the investment!!!
I hate reading dry textbooks. We were required to read Lewis's Medical-Surgical Nursing book which is huge, heavy and has a tiny font. I tried but just couldn't bring myself to do it. I purchased this cd-rom and studied all the questions by categorized system which corresponded to whatever topic we were studying at the time in class. It hits the highlights you are expected to know. The answers to the questions asked are immediate as you go through the system of your choice (ex: integumentary, respiratory, gastro, hematologic, endocrine, cardio, fundamentals, & assessment)with well written rationales to help you learn as you "test". Bottom line, I studied these questions exclusively for my first semester of med surg and made an A and it was nearly fun! :) Am using it to retain my knowledge of med surg during the summer and to build on new information for med surg part 2 in the fall! VERY worth it to me. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Tool for Multidisciplinary Wound Management
As a Physical Therapist and head of a rural health consortium's wound management team, I found this to be an invaluable tool for assesment, planning, monitoring and reimbursement. I feel this is the best clinical resource currently available for PTs.

4-0 out of 5 stars a basic wound care reference for inexperienced clinicians
if you're looking for wound care decision pathways, protocols, documentation guidelines and how-to instructions on basic dressing change type wound care - then this is the book for you. the book's shortcomings are an almost complete lack of specificity on therapeutic interventions such as debridement techniques designed to activate certain tissue processes, and a wordy superficiality in most of the text. not a text for physicians or experienced clinicians looking for sophisticated interventions. a good comprehensive guide for beginners

5-0 out of 5 stars Best pressure ulcer reference available
This is a great reference for pressure ulcers, surgical wounds, vascular ulcers, and management of neuropathies. I found the title misleading because I expected it to cover all types of wounds including treatment of fresh lacerations and puncture wounds from accidents. If your looking for information on these last two subjects, this is not the book to use. However, if you care for people with pressure ulcer risk or wounds, diabetic risks, surgical incisions, or venous or arterial ulcers in long term care, rehab, home health, or are a wound care specialist, this reference is the definitive resource. As an RN who works in a multidisciplinary environment with PTs, I found the information on the PT role in wound management collaboration very informative. It actually has a section on managing wound healing with physical therapy technologies such as diathermy, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation to name a few. If you prefer to buy hard cover books for your reference library, don't let the "paperback" disuade you. This book is really a hardback similar in type to school textbooks. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars RN, IBCLC
This text and tests were very helpful in preparation for the lactation consultant exam. Very good practice exams helped those of us who haven't been in school for a while. The exams help with content and timing. CD Rom was helpful for the picture portion of the exam.

1-0 out of 5 stars unnecessary to take this test
Before you buy this text, think very clearly about why you want to take this test.

While I think it is important that lactation consultants be helpful, educated, competant people, I am not sure that this is the way in which we want to develop the world of lactation.

Breastfeeding used to be something that women, not the medical establishment, used to teach each other. It is so hard to watch the medical establishment take from us women another area in which we are competant. They took from us control over own own births, and now look at the statistics! I am fearful that the more we lactation consultants join up with the medical establishment, trying to "prove" we are worth with letters behind our names, and tests, and other non-reality based tests of our skills, we are going to slowly lose everything just as most women have in the birthing process. Look at the medical experiences you have had as a lactation consultant so far-- despite the certifications aquired by the nurses and dr's you work with, are they all competant and great at what they do? Tests do not tell ability.

Now, by subjecting ourselves to this test and its requirements, we are giving up our right to shape the world of lactation into something better-- something that helps women take control of thier own breastfeeding experience and therefor the complete care of thier child.

After all, we know that the expert of a baby is only her mother-- we lactation consultants, doctors, nurses and other "experts" are only here to consult-- to provide the information she needs-- she should be the one to take the credit and the challenge. What kind of world will we have when everything requires an expert?

So think about this test more than once-- make sure you are confotable with the idea that this test and this text promote-- that breastfeeding is for experts, and that it can only be taught by those who have the means to take the test, access to the required courses, and time to take them.

Remember that you will not be among those who can really make a difference-- like the "uncertified" 80-year old midwife who delivers babies in the backwoods of Mississippi, or the mother who talks everyone on her street into nursing thier babies, or anyone else who helps others take control and responsibility for thier own lives, instead of relying on experts.

Do you want to be an "expert" that mothers depend upon for information and guidance, or do you want to be someone with information that can empower women to take control of thier own breastfeeding experiences?

Just think about it.

And in case it is important to you, I have been certified as IBCLC myself-- although I never go as far as to include all of those letters behind my name!

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Lactation Consultant Exam Review with CD-ROM
This book is an excellent preparation and a "must have" for the IBCLC Exam. If you have not taken a board exam in a long time, this book gets you into "exam mode". Sometimes, taking a test of this nature requires good exam skills. This book gives you plenty of much needed practice. The first part of the book delves into the different sections on the exam blueprint. It lists topics to learn and resources to read. The second part is three 200 questions tests. Eighty some questions in each test are based on pictures from the CD-ROM. The answers generally give the reasons for the right and wrong answer, list the difficulty of the question, and state from what section of the exam blueprint it pertains to. Having practiced with these tests, I felt very confident going into the Exam. It also is a great review for LCs who are retaking the certification exam. I heard comments from several LCs who stated the first exam they took they did not do as well as they thought because oftentimes taking exams is all about practice. They performed much better on the subsequent exams when they studied their mistakes. This is a "must have" for everyone planning to sit for the board exam. ... Read more

These cards make learning anatomy and physiology a lot easier. Sometimes you don't have the time to read big textbooks. However, I would recommend these study cards as a great source for learning the human body for massage students or college A and P students.
