5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent companion book to Breast Cancer Survival Manual
This book is an excellent companion book to Dr. John Link's first book "Breast Cancer Survival Manual". His first book is a good crash course on all the information and terminology needed to understand your diagnosis and treatments. This book however is more personal. It empowers you to be your best advocate. He encourages second opinions and treating the WHOLE woman... not just her cancer. So often physicians only see the woman as a part that is damaged. They don't consider quality of life issues along with their treatments. I recommend this book highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Advice for the person - not just the patient
A diagnosis of breast cancer can make you feel powerless. You are thrust into a world where nothing makes sense and asked to make life and death decisions - or have others make them for you. Dr. Link is a practicing oncologist who understands this.

Taking Charge of Your Breast Cancer empowers you. It gives insight into what is going on in your body, in the doctor's office and in your world. The advice does not come packaged in a condensending tone. You feel that this man knows what it is like to be a patient.

I found myself nodding in agreement with so much that he said. Second opinions, alternative treatments, chemo before surgery... so many topics that are presented clearly. This book makes taking charge - getting control back - so much easier.

The focus of this book is curing breast cancer. Recurrences are real and he deals with this, but he concentrates on living life to the fullest. The positive message is good to hear.

5-0 out of 5 stars Living Through Breast Cancer
This is a must-read book for women with breast cancer. Dr. Link's advice in a nutshell: Make sure you get the best medical care available, know your chance of long-term survival is good, and don't let breast cancer stop you from living your life to the fullest. If you've been newly diagnosed with breast cancer, read Dr. Link's first book to understand the basics of what you need to know to make the best decisions about your treatment. Then read this book, which is about the experience of breast cancer within your life as a whole. It is extraordinarily well written and readable, and will help you gain perspective about the emotionally devastating diagnosis of breast cancer. ... Read more

Book Description

Mammography can be thought of as a (sub)macroscopic 'shadow pathology' - confident diagnosis necessitates comprehensive knowledge of breast pathology. The traditional rules of thumb, for example that a regular, rounded shadow means a benign lesion, a radiating structure represents a malignant tumor, and microcalcification indicates biopsy, no longer hold true. This volume aims to explain modern breast pathology to physicians practicing mammography. The over 600 individual illustrations and more than 1,000 references help the reader understand breast morphology. The book is rounded off by a detailed description of the clinical symptoms and a helpful summary of the supplementary diagnostic procedures and the possibilities for treatment. ... Read more

Book Description

Multiple myeloma is the second most common hematologic malignancy, affecting 15,000 patients per year in the United States. Despite the advent of high-dose chemotherapy with stem cell transplantation, multiple myeloma remains incurable, with approximately 12,000 deaths per annum recorded in the US from the disease.

Over the last 10 years, there has been a dramatic increase in our understanding of the biology of multiple myeloma, which has provided insights into mechanisms of cytotoxic resistance, both as inherent characteristics of the myeloma cell and the protective interaction between the tumor and its bone marrow microenvironment. Moreover, advances in our understanding of multiple myeloma pathogenesis have helped further define the intricacies of this complex disease.

Through this greater understanding, a large array of new therapies have been engendered and a significant impact is being made on patient outcome as a result.

This book provides a concise overview of the state-of-the-art in multiple myeloma and should be of primary interest to clinicians as well as scientists and related caregivers alike in this rapidly changing field. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Cancer Treatment" one of the best research
Cancer Treatment, by Charles M. Haskel, M.D. F.A.C.P.,4th edition is by far the most comprehensive book on the subject that I have read. It is not a book for the uninitiated in understanding cancer and all the myriad diagnosis and treatments. But with statistics rising to the fact that one in three people will have some form of cancer within their lifetime, it is important to know what the options you or your family member have or will have when diagnosed. The reader has to be strong and optimistic. This is a factual book with great hope and a lot of reality. Doctors are always positive when they look at you and your family member, but they only tell you what they think is best for you to know. If you are strong, astute, practical and want to know the real facts then read this book and go back to this doctor alone, with book in hand, (he will know the book) and then ask for a frank discussion with her or him. I am a writer, researcher and producer with many international awards. I highly recommend this book for your library. It I well laid out, not opinionated and worth the price. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The benefits of reading Cure Your Cancer
After stumbling across Bill Henderson's book, I immediately endeavoured to be my own guinea pig and try out his products. For several years, I was experiencing hormonal instability and, as a result, was chronically ill and suffered from facial blemishes.

After taking Hydroxygen Plus, Mega Minerals and Coral Calcium as well as Modifilan, I noticed an immediate change to my skin, my eyes and my general health. My GP advised me to get off these products but I dismissed her advise as conventional medicine proved to be useless to me for so long. It is now very cold in Melbourne, and everyone I know is suffering from the cold or flu or is feeling run-down. In the past, I would be the first to be sick, but I have not been ill at all.

People always comment on how good my skin looks and how healthy I look in general. I am so impressed with these products and recommend them to everyone. People are still reluctant to try them out as they listen to their doctors who warn them that they do not work. My only ammunition though is that I am the perfect example of recovery.

Well done Bill Henderson! I only wish that we had Oxygen Therapy in Australia and that the products were sold here. Nobody knows about these products but I am hoping to make a change.

Many Regards

Vicky

5-0 out of 5 stars Cure your cancer
I highly recommend this book. It contains very valuable information. My daughter was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) when she was 12 years old. She went through chemo treatments, the cancer mestasized to her lungs two years later. At this time I desperately searched the web for answers and found Bill Henderson and read the book. I got my daughter started on MGN-3 an immune system booster, this was a breakthrough for us. My daughter is now 16 years old and is cancer free!!! Thanks to alot of prayers and this book. Thank you Bill and God Bless you!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cutting Edge!!!
OK, sorry for the pun, but it's true. Bill Henderson has found a way to provide the best researched PROVEN treatments and CURES for cancers of all shapes and sizes in an easy to read and understand format. While waiting for my doctors to schedule, execute and analyse a biopsy of my neck (prior tests have made them suspect some kind of lymphoma), I started doing some research of my own and stumbled across Bill's fabulous book. I immediately started upping my dosages of some of the supplements I was already taking, and added some others recommended by several of the doctors and scientists mentioned in the book. I also modified my diet somewhat. Within 3 days of starting, the seering and throbbing pain I was experiencing DISAPPEARED! The mass in my neck, what ever it is (still haven't got the results back from the biopsy) softened and shrunk by 20-30%. Within a week, I can now see the shape of my face again (mass now smaller by over 50%!!), and I feel like I am winning my fight already! I am still fine-tuning my protocol based on many of the recommendations in Bill's book, have several supplements on order through discount nutrient providers (all found in the book), and have been constantly reading new material through many of the links provided within the book. It may only seem like 200 pages or so, but with the links to other invaluable sites as well as the newsletter archives on Bill's website, you too can become an "expert" on cancer and alternative treatments in a very short time. And you can keep learning new proven techniques because Bill is contstantly researching and updating his site with the latest and greatest. This book could literally save your life or the life of someone you love. Even if no one you know has cancer, you can learn how to insure that you and your family never get it by reading this book and learning EXACTLY what causes cancer (turns out it's pretty simple!) and how you can make yourself virtually cancer-proof. I only wish I knew this information 3 years ago when my Dad was battling leukemia. Chemo did not save him. Read this book. You won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE BOOK FOR ANYONE DEALING WITH CANCER!!!
I must say that Bill has really done his research and has written a book that is a definite wealth of information for the cancer patient and family. This information will not be shared by your run of the mill oncologist! Bill's book will direct you to some of the finest websites that offer alternatives to cure your cancer. Also you will be able to locate Dr's who are willing to work with you when you choose not to go with the cut, burn and poison treatments if you have cancer. The book tells you about lifestyle changes, being healthy eating, exercise and what supplements to take to help cure your cancer. If you are looking for this kind of information and feel lost out there in cyberspace, then you need this VERY helpful guide book of Bills! Thank you Bill for helping so many people! Lynn Miller P.S. Bill also made this book very easy to understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Easy Read of Fantastic Information
Bill Henderson's book is a solid, comprehensive work of information for curing your cancer. It should give real hope, not false hope, to anyone diagnosed with cancer who doesn't know which way to turn for help, or whom to believe, trust or rely on. It is objective, exhaustively researched, and presented in a format that is not only reader friendly but imbues a feeling of confidence and optimism.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enzymes-Enzyme Therapy by Dr. Cichoke MD
This book explains the mechanics of enzymes within the food
processing apparati of the body. These enzymes occur in all
living things. There are approximately 3000 enzymes which exist to ward off disease, assist the heartbeat, repair tissues, digest
food and perform a variety of important functions in the body.
The author explains how proteases breakdown protein.
i.e. histidine, leucine and tryptophan

There is a pH balance which consists of acids and alkalines
in a net balancing interaction within the body. Digestion
happens in the small intestine. There are extensive secretion
processes in the body i.e.
o saliva 1000 ml.
o gastric juices 1500 ml.
o pancreas 1000 ml.
o bile 1000 ml.
o small intestine 1800 ml.
o large intestine 200 ml.

Digestive processes are disturbed with improper tooth
alignment, diminished acid secretion, pancreatic insufficiency,
celial disease, lactose intolerance, stress. Digestion can
be helped by some of the recommendations contained in this book.
Various enzyme products can facilitate the digestive processes.
Soy sauce is a well-known enzyme enhancer. In addition, raw
veggies will assist in the process of enzyme interaction.
The author reviews an overall strategy to maximize enzyme
activity within the body consisting of:
o veggies
o garlic and onion
o minimum use of aluminum
o reduced salt intake
o reduced sugar
o an increase in bulk
o no coffee and smaller meals
o pineapple and papaya
o enzyme co-energizers Co-Q 10 ( coenzyme), zinc, red meat, nuts,
B vitamins., magnesium (Mg.), iron (Fe), copper (Cu.) and
Selenium (Se)

Overall, this work has a wealth of information pertaining to
personal health maintenance. It should be in every medical/
nutritional library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enzymes and Enzyme Therapy...
Dr. Cichoke shows how every life process depends on enzymes. He covers a broad range of subjects starting with digestion, elimination, co-enzymes, how to obtain more enzymes in your diet and through supplementation. He has a 5-step program of do's and don'ts, including avoidance of aluminum cookware, refined sugars and salt, coffee, and so on. He also tells you how and what to eat and how to prepare foods for the best utilization of enzymes. Dr. Cichoke addresses a large range of health problems from extending life to AIDS and cancer. He also covers medications that affect enzymes, including OTC drugs and prescription drugs, as well as foods that contain enzyme inhibitors. This is a great book! One I believe everyone should own. I also would strongly suggest Dr. Cichoke's book "The Complete Book of Enzyme Therapy". This book is set up very much like the "Prescription for Natural Healing", however it addresses health from an enzyme point of view. I would rate them both a 5-star, must have if you care at all about your health. This book was required reading for my Enzymes class, "The Complete Book of Enzyme Therapy" was not, but after reading this one, I wanted to know more. This book is a great intro to enzymes, the complete book goes even further. It is in fairly simple to understand language if you have a bit of medcial background, you might need a medical dictionary if not. ... Read more

Alternatives in Cancer Therapy offers help for all patients coping with cancer. The therapies discussed in this book are primarily non-toxic, have few, if any, side effects, and tend to strengthen the immune system. They can be used as supplemental regimens that help maximize the effectiveness of traditional therapies such as surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Patients have a right to know all of their treatment options, and Dr. Ross Pelton presents dozens of choices, including:

* Shark Cartilage
* Gerson Therapy
* Mistletoe
* Isoprinosine
* Laetrile
* Selenium
* Beta-Carotene
* Hydrogen Peroxide
* Vitamins C and E
* The Hoxsey Treatment

Non-traditional therapies can enhance the quality of life, and improve overall health while treating the disease. Alternatives in Cancer Therapy provides information on the research, efficacy, potential side effects, and availability of each treatment. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but outdated
Cancer therapy is a rapidly moving target. New alternatives are introduced each day. This book written in 1994 has very little of the newer alternatives. I found it to be of little use in finding some new alternative.

1-0 out of 5 stars A too-balanced review
Compared to other books like David Bognar's "Cancer: Increasing Your Odds for Survival" and Michael Lerner's classic and profound "Choices in Healing," this book is weak indeed. It is nothing more than a laundry list of a variety of alternative therapies, all presented with a dry and straight-faced summarization. Had I not read other and better books on the same subject, I would have walked away from this volume certainly no wiser and probably more confused about non-traditional cancer treatments. A real disappointment to me as a recovering cancer patient trying to avoid recurrence. If you are looking for the definitive work on the subject, put your money elsewhere.

4-0 out of 5 stars a balanced approach
When you look down the list of these supplements, some seem eerie
because we have attached them to radical, non traditional treatments
that people used to go to back alleys in order to obtain. Now,
however, the blended and supplemental approach to cancer treatment has
make it more acceptable for patients to access additional treatments
instead of opting for one or the other....I think Pelton's book is a
very good start.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent no nonsense appraisel
This book surprised me as I was expecting an anti-traditional therapy tirade. Instead I found a well balanced up to date summary of alternative therapies with excellent reference material and a writing style that reflected the authors compassion.I feel this book should be read by everyone not just cancer patients as the list of preventative measures available will prolong a lot of lives.The authors frequently stress the importance of using suggested therapies as an assistance to traditional therapies not as an alternative.I feel the knowledge I have gained from reading this book will prolong my own life as well as others I will share the information with.I long for the day when the public will rise en-masse and take responsibility for their own lives. Easy to find summaries.A valuable Reference Work. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolute necessity for all dermatology residents
an indispensable guide. extremely high yield for dermatology boards review. i would suggest getting together with your fellow residents, splitting the work of outlining a chapter each week, and then having the handouts to study from while you are in chicago.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Dr. Wolverton has created what will long be a classic of dermatologic texts. This book begins with basic pharmacologic principles and covers all of the major classes of drugs that are used to treat skin diseases including rarely used compounds such as clofazimine. Each drug is discussed from chemical structure to pharmacokinetics to mechanism of action, etc., with handy little tables that nicely supplement the text. The clinical use sections discuss findings of key medical articles and a section on off-label uses discusses case reports of the drugs' use in rarer conditions. Dosages and weight-based dosing tables are included.

There are good sections on other topical compounds (sunscreens, cosmetics, insect repellants). Phototherapy with psoralens and photopheresis have good reviews as well. Several chapters discuss the side effects of major drug classes.

This book is excellent all the way around and is not only a good reference for practicing dermatologists but is helpful also as a stand-up text for residents to read all the way through.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitive Drug Therapy
The much thinner first edition of this book has been the definitive source for dermatology therapy for ten years. Now, a revised, more comprehensive version details all aspects of drug therapy for dermatologists, and other physicians treating cutaneous disorders. From topical agents to systemic therapies commonly used to treat skin disease to cosmetic agents, this book is all inclusive. A standardized format presents the different drugs in a consistent fashion and tables emphasize important drug interactions and present monitoring guidelines for commonly and uncommonly used medications.

In addition to listing and reviewing FDA approved indications for medications, commonly used "off-label" indications are also listed and the literature supporting their use is given.

Sections of the book are also dedicated to less commonly discussed topics around drug therapy, such as pharmacoeconomics, FDA approval process, and medicolegal issues surrounding drug therapy.

This will be an importantant resource for dermatologists, dermatology residents, medical students, and all physicians who treat skin disease. ... Read more
