4-0 out of 5 stars A very informative book
Small Animal Clinical Oncology is NOT aimed at "civilian" pet owners like me. I bought this book after getting a cancer diagnosis on my dog, desperate for more detailed information than what I've found so far in books for the general public. I hesitated at the price, but I'm now very glad I bought it. I strongly suggest having Taber's Medical Dictionary handy if you're not in the field, and many of the photos were very tough to look at. Each chapter is written by different authors, it's footnoted to the nth degree which makes it easier if you should want to find further info. The chapters are well laid out and offered lots of basic and not so basic info on different tumors and cancers, progression, treatments, theory, classifications, pathology, etc. The last chapter on Bond Centered Practice is very touching from where I stand, addressing the handling of us owners in a very comforting way.

This book has most anything pet owners could want to know from a conventional medicine standpoint if they're willing to wade through it. There's info about the not-so-conventional side too, I found that a bonus since I'm interested in both sides. I did get totally lost in a couple of the theory chapters, that's to be expected for the likes of me, but I managed most of it. While a tough read for for a those not in the field, I've really learned a lot from this book, it's the best I've found on the subject so far. I can't rate this 5 full stars since I am not in the target group it's written for. If there are any problems, inaccuracies, or unnoted controversies, I'd probably never know, but none are obvious to me anyway. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Genius
Breuss was a man of integrity and inspiration. His theory is sound. However the theory is not as easy to put into practice as it at first appears, First, you have to want to get better. That's not straightforward and requires physical, psychic and emotional work. Then there is the prospect of no social interaction over food for six weeks. That's not something most people have ever experienced in a lifetime. Thirdly the lack of mastication needs to be addressed, to me someone needs to come up with something between Breuss (best) and Gerson (good), that would be five star +!.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Breuss Cancer Cure
Very easy for reading and understanding, furthermore I know a woman who lived 6 years instead 1 month (per doctors assumption)after using the therapy.Who ever wants to get better, not only from cancer but all kind of illnesses I recomend from the bottom of my heart. There is herbal store in Ventura, Ca under the name Ema's herbs and they can provide all necessary herbs for therapy.Try it, nothing to lose but illness.

4-0 out of 5 stars Breuss 42 day fast
I enjoyed reading this book and its potential benefits. I did not have cancer (to my knowledge) but had a few other health challenges. I did the fast in the fall of 2000 with a big help from the bottled "Biotta - Breuss Vegetable Juice" and Sage Tea (I could not find the ingredients for the other tea mentioned in the book). It was tough for the first 2 days, then no problem. I had energy to burn, slept very soundly and the health challenges went away. I have not so much as had a cold or flu since then. I intend to go on this cleansing fast every fall - when there is little fresh fruit and vegetables around.

1-0 out of 5 stars DISGUSTED
I WAS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED BY THIS BOOK. NOT ONLY DID I READ IT, BUT MY GRANDMOTHER TRIED MR. BREUSS' TREATMENT. MY GRANDMOTHER DIED RECENTLY. THIS TREATMENT DID NOTHING FOR HER, IT MADE HER CONDITION A LOT WORSE! I THINK IT'S WONDERFUL IF OTHERS HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL WITH HIS TREATMENTS, BUT I DON'T THINK THAT HIS METHODS SHOULD BE IDENTIFIED AS A CURE FOR CANCER. EVERYONE HEARS ABOUT THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN CURED. WELL, LET MY VOICE BE THE VOICE OF THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN SILENCED BY HIS TREATMENT. THOSE WHO ARE RESTING IN PEACE BECAUSE HIS TREATMENT DID NOT WORK!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard to follow , but save my life from advenced liver cancer
Exellent book . Very cheap to bay herbs and vegetables . Have to be followed 100% . There is no room for error . What could I say more : Save my life from terminal , primery , very advenced liver cancer . No orthodox medical treatments .Have to read making of taes and juices many times .I read it at least 20 times . It would not succed whit parties and dinners . Good luck . ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative and concise
The Cancer Chemotherapy Handbook has been extremely useful to me in doing preclinical laboratory work, which requires a working knowledge of current clinical practice. Sections include an alphabetically arranged section of chemotherapy drugs and biological response modifiers with detailed descriptions, a section of current treatment protocols arranged by cancer type, and sections on pain, toxicity, etc. in addition to useful tables. All of this information comes in a small paperback making it very convenient to carry with you.

Book Description

Winner of the 2003 American Society of Journalists and Authors' June Roth Memorial Award for Health and Medical Books. An authoritative book with new lifesaving strategies for those at risk and those already diagnosed.

Lung cancer kills more women than breast cancer, more men than prostate cancer—because it's usually found too late. Claudia Henschke's groundbreaking research on early diagnosis, published in The Lancet, made headlines worldwide. Now, for the first time, she offers specific recommendations based on her latest findings: who needs to be checked, where to be tested, and what to expect. Dr. Henschke and coauthor Peggy McCarthy, a leading patient advocate, provide up-to-the-minute information on diagnosis, treatment, and survival, accompanied by inspiring words from survivors.

The book describes how the lungs work and how cancer develops. Questionnaires pinpoint risk factors (including past as well as current smoking) and the sometimes surprising symptoms, like back pain or swollen fingertips, that can signal a problem. Henschke and McCarthy explain how to remain healthy, active, and pain-free during and after treatment. They also address emotional and practical concerns, such as coping with guilt and dealing with insurance. ... Read more

As a 5 year+ Lung Cancer Survivor, I have read many books on this life threatening disease. This one is by far the best! It is accurate, enlightening, and very understandable to a layman. It is easy to read and I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars This Is My Cancer Guide!
My mother was recently diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer and this book has been by our sides the whole time. I was quite impressed with the book's clarity of details and "understandability". So often , information in books regarding illnesses of this magnitude can clutter and confuse the mind, this book set me straight. We were able to understand the physicians during various appointments and we were able to ask good questions. Knowledge allowed us a little bit of control in a very out of control situation, and I believe this book helped tremendously. ... Read more

Book Description

A proven approach to beating disease and enjoying peak health written by one of the country's most dynamic health educators.

It's a fact seldom admitted by the medical establishment: chemotherapy and radiation are only about 6% effective in fighting cancer.Prompted by public outcry, research now validates a course of cancer prevention and treatment advocated by specialists in alternative medicine and practiced for centuries in Eastern cultures--nutritional therapy.

Verne Varona shows how to stop cancer in its tracks--and even reverse it--through diet.Backed by the testimony of prominent physicians and inspiring case histories, Varona explains what kind of nourishment works best to enhance immunity and restore vitality--without sacrificing enjoyment of food.Starting with the basics of smart eating and moving to specifics on the role of antioxidants, phytochemicals, herbs, vitamins, and more in preventing and conquering cancer, he outlines a complete, easy-to-follow program for freedom from a devastating disease--and improved odds of a long, healthy life.

Aimed to make dietary changes as painless as possible, this welcome resource also features a tantalizing collection of nutritious recipes, helpful shopping and cooking tips, and sensitive advice on eating in restaurants and at social gatherings. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Insightful, Inspiring & Entertaining!
I bought this book for a friend with cancer and after reading the preface and first chapter just couldn't put it down! Verne Varona writes with an amazing clarity, insight and entertaining style while demystifing all kinds of nutritional myths. His information about acid and alkaline is the best I've read anywhere and his sugar craving information has allowed me to challenge what was a formidable addiction. It seems like he's taken the best of numerous cultural medicines and combined them into a practical and refreshing melting pot approach. Best of all, after five weeks on this program I feel better than I have in 30 years! I have as much kitchen savvy as kangeroo, but his recipes are easy-to-follow and absolutely delicious. Whether you have cancer, concerned about cancer or just in search of good health, this highly motivating book is a must read for anyone wanting to improve or recover their health. That's my take!

5-0 out of 5 stars A SERIES OF WELL-DOCUMENTED ANALYSES
"Clinical Oncology: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach for Physicians & Students" did a thorough analyses of all aspects of general oncology. It is complete, comprehensive, and very reliable for evaluating and managing cancerous growths.
This book's well-arranged chapters provide detailed information on the pathology of several types of malignant tumours, before going ahead with their respective diagnosis, management and treatment. Its overview is sound and clear: a useful tool that every oncologist, G.P., or student would cherish.
The included CD-ROM is a big plus: especially for those who need something portable to lug around.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent source book for basic information about cancer
While I have used this book for several years as a source book to understand specific kinds of cancer I only regret that there has not as yet been an updated version. Not only have there been new chemotherapeutic agents in use, there are also many new diagnostic tools. In the field of medicine six or seven years is an eternity, especially for cancer and related conditions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent! Concise and comprehensive.
This paperback book is an excellent reference for physicians, medical students, nurses, medical librarians, pharmacists who want a concise, comprehensive oncology reference. Chapters cover the basics principles of chemotherapy, radiology, surgery, and cancer diagnosis. Other chapters cover related- issues such as pain control and late effects. Chapters covering each type of cancer include information on the epidemiology/etiology, detection/diagnosis, classification, treatment and prognosis. The only shortcoming is that the book is somewhat outdated. One can only hope that a new edition is in the works!

IF THIS BOOK SAVES JUST ONE LIFE, LET IT BE YOURS! This is a must for the baby-boomers!

What Your Doctor... is an outstanding book! I recommend it to all my patients at risk of colorctal cancer, who are turning fifty, or over fifty. I find so many patients are unaware of the signs and symptoms of this silent killer as well as the recommended testing to identify colorectal cancer.

In this well-thought out book, Dr. Pochapin calmly and gently presents everything one needs to know including the signs and symptom of the disease as well as preventative suggestions such as dietary modification, exercise, and colonoscopy to prevent colorectal cancer. He also helps guide those already afflicted with colon cancer.

I know many of my patients are hesitant to have a colonoscopy. Yet Dr. Pochapin's plain talking explanation seem to alleviate much of their fear and anxiety. Ultimately our goal as physicians is to prevent disease, not treat it.

While we eat healthier, exercise more and plan our retirement, we can not forget this insidious disease. Read Dr. Pochapin's book. Share its message with your family and friends. And if your family doctor does not remind you to get a colonoscopy, give him/her a copy of the book.

I want to thank Dr. Pochapin for writing this timely book. It is
making a difference in my practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dealing With Colorectal Cancer
As a two-time colorectal cancer survivor, I strongly recommend this book as the best I've come across on the subject. Having read extensively on this topic in medical journals, medical websites, books and periodicals, I believe that this book is unique. It ties together the myriad factors and interrelationships that make cancer in general, but colorectal cancer in particular, so perplexing to the patient, the patient's loved ones and support group members from initial diagnosis through treatment to recovery or recurrence. Dr. Pochapin also stresses the importance of compassionate care in the current specialist oriented managed care environment.
The book explains in layman's terms how you can avoid getting the disease, what to do when diagnosed with it, and how to minimize your chances of recurrence.
Most importantly from a public health perspective, it describes the various diagnostic tests available and gives an overview of their respective advantages and limitations. The book explains its strong recommendations for colonoscopy screening for everyone age 50 or older. The colonoscopy serves as the gold standard diagnostic test and is unique among cancer diagnostics in that it can also be the cure in most cases where the cancer is confined to the polyp removed during the procedure.
The author does an excellent job explaining the medical profession's current understanding of the causes of this disease and the workings of the gastrointestinal tract. Dr. Pochapin describes how diet, vitamin and chemical supplements, and lifestyle changes should lower your chances of getting this cancer and presents the empirical evidence supporting these recommendations.
The sections on diagnosis and treatment are a clearly written guide on what to do if you are diagnosed with this cancer, how to interpret the diagnosis, what to expect in terms of the various treatments currently available, their respective ramifications and how best to cope with them. The book doesn't delve into the background and use of blood markers, such as CEA, or into the various chemotherapy regimens, radiation protocols and surgical options, perhaps to steer clear of patient's natural tendency towards self-diagnosis and simplification.
The tone of the book is upbeat and positive, and leaves you with the feeling that this cancer can be beat. Colorectal cancer is avoidable for the most part, diagnostics are continually improving, the preparation for the tests is becoming less arduous, and research into new techniques for improving cure rates are in the pipeline.
Read it. Give it to anyone you know 50 or older. Certainly give it to those currently fighting this disease.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK SAVED MY LIFE.
Perceiving myself to be in the best of health, I had, for year, postponed subjecting myself to a colonoscopy. Reading this book motivated me to overcome my resistance and ignorance and schedule a screening. The colonoscopy revealed a few (benign) polyps which were removed during the procedure, plus a cluster of polyps which could only be removed by hemicolectomy. The first shock was seeing the cluster on film; the second shock was the need for abdominal surgery; the third shock was the pathology report which confirmed a small, superficial cancerous lesion in the earliest stages of growth. The lesion had not yet penetrated inward, nor had it reached the lymph nodes. But it would have - possibly in as little as three or four months. Buy this book. Read it. Schedule a screening. It just might save your life. ... Read more
