Eye for detail
The Eye - Principles and Applications, was found to be an essential tool. Forrester aims (and succeeds) to inform in detail everything a first year university student needs to know about the eye. This is the beauty of the book: It doesn't skim over anything. When you're looking for a book to give more than a general overview, but don't need the complexity a post-graduate may, a book such as this is perfect. The only valid criticism may be that the included diagrams were erratic: some were perfectly presented, but others, whilst correct, were sometimes confusing, especially for students. C.O.A Review Manual is very helpful!!
I found the review manual very helpful in studying for my COA exam. It was precise, and provided me with knowledge of alot of things that I had not dealt with in clinic before. There is alot of "old-school" things in the book, but come in very handy because there is alot of things on the test that are based on technology from years ago. Had I not studied this book, I would have been lost in taking my exam.

Help for those from back in mass., ...
So your olfactory's off and your auditory's kaput? Help is on the way via this highly recommended book (wouldn't be surprised if it might also cure the 'mr. cranky' in you). No matter your handle or the locale you claim, it's beneficial from india to menninger and points beyond.

Lacking in some places
As far as content goes this manual is lacking in up to date therapies, and has a limited view on differential diagosis.Pictures are great, though, and in one small handy book. But, if you don't know what you're looking for it is very hard to find

Perhaps the best ophthalmology book ever
Kudos to the authors!

This well-organized, concise and practical book begins where the Wills Manual left off. Drawing from a vast library of clinical photographs, the book serves both as a clinical resource and an atlas. The reader is expertly guided through both diagnosis and management.

I was very impressed and would recommend this book to any ophthalmologist or health care professional interested in eye care.

I wish I had read this sooner
I read this during my second year of ophthalmology residency and found it to be incredibly useful. It is easy to read with real, hilarious cases to explain the optics. Easy to read & understand!!!
Dr. Keating has done an excellent job of putting his lectures into words. There is no better way to learn optics than to attend lectures, but if you can't, the next best thing is this book. As one of Dr. Keating's students, I can say that he wrote this book for students, keeping in mind that most of us have no clue about optics. He provides tons of examples along with complete explanations. I don't know how he does it...but Dr. Keating has made optics fun for me, and all of my friends!!!!!!

This book may help some people
It is clear that this Rudman-series study guide was put on the market to challenge the Betz-Williams-Wilkins monopoly on the OAT study-guide market. Unfortunately, it contains no OAT-specific content. Rudman produces dozens of study guides and I'm guessing the same content is recycled between all the books. Eighty percent of the book is composed of hundreds of pages of photocopied multiple-choice questions for Bio, Chem, Phys, Orgo & Math (note that there are NO English practice questions). The other twenty percent of the book is made up of photocopies of essays taken from ancient sources and obsolete textbooks - all without any general theme other than that they are science-related - a very good cure for insomnia. On the whole, however, some people may find this book useful. There are TONS of practice questions - hundreds and perhaps thousands of them. But again, though the questions are science-related, they are not OAT-specific. Hence, you may spend a lot of time practicing questions on topics that the OAT won't cover. And unfortunately, though the book provides answers for all the multiple-choice questions, it provides no explanations. So, if you don't know why an answer is the way it is, you're stuck. Add to that, the fact that the answer scheme is plagued with mistakes, and you can see how you can end up second-guessing the book wherever you and it disagree. Believe me, this significantly comprises the integrity and usefulness of the book entirely. Again, however, some people may find it useful since the book does provide an unlimited supply of multiple-choice questions and that's what the OAT is all about. But, having questions and not being sure that you have the right answers isn't the best approach to learning OAT material. ... Read more
