1-0 out of 5 stars The D is for dud in D. Ralph Millard
Great book if you're living in the sixties or seventies. Poorly organized book, limited info on grafting techniques, limited info on secondary and open rhinoplasty, no commentary on long-term rhinoplasty changes. Many other complaints ... In short, its worth about the $ 10 I paid for it in the bargain bin of our medical school bookstore. It may be worth it at $ 50, but anything more ... save your money and buy the RK Daniel, DM Toriumi dissection book, Dallas Rhinoplasty, Tardy's book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Sinusitis Help Book changed and saved my life.
For a number of years, I frantically searched for any information I thought I could find on sinuses. I was, unfortunately the kind of patient who had undergone numerous surgeries and evaluations to no avail. I was a more serious case and felt that I would eventually die if help were not found soon. I was racked with fever, pain, and pressure. I had exhausted myself visiting every Ear Nose and Throat doctor within a two hundred mile radius of my home. Despite my insistance that these problems had become serious, most doctors disregarded my problems as being insignificant. The Sinusitis Help Book gave me every piece of important information I needed to validate my condition for myself, and to continue forward in my pursuit of a doctor who would listen. Next this book gave me the proper questions to ask that would eventually save my life. My condition as it turned out was a rather serious infected cyst. Doctor M. Lee Williams answered questions that no doctor had been able to answer. I was amazed at his passion in his feild. Most doctors had given me few answers or options. This man made me realize that there are many, many conditions of the sinuses, many symptoms to suggest this, and many treatment options. I am not embellishing one bit when I say that I would be dead had I not read this book. My condition was crescendoeing just as I was to find the proper questions to ask. Doctor Williams is a genius, noting in his book certain symptoms that most doctors have never heard of. It was a tremendous help to me . I am now nearly well and I have doctor Williams to thank for that. I really believe that every Otolaryngologist in this country who is learning or practicing should consider reading this significant and comprehensive bible of sinusitis. Thanks Doctor Williams for saving my life with this masterpeice of medicine, sincerely, Lana Olivia Gentry, Richmond,Virginia

5-0 out of 5 stars All I ever wanted to know about sinusitis
The temptation to tell people what's really wrong with them is almost irrisistable once you've read this book. You recognize all the symptoms; are pretty sure you know some of the treatments. Of course, an illness is only fascinating to those who suffer from it, but sinus infections hit so many children that unaffected parents also should be interested.Written specifically for the layman, Dr. Williams reflects the image of a kindly country doctor with sage advice. Don't swim in pools during the winter-- they are fraught with germs. Don't sleep near a drafty door or vent; you will start to cough.Wash your hands, take simple medicines, drinks lots of fluids. Sound familiar? Well, much of it is, but the many situations that lead to infections may be completely new to chronic sufferers. They owe it to themselves and their frequently infected families to learn more about this common, expensive and debilitating condition. The small cost of the book could have a big payback with information that should last a lifetime ... Book Description

Because there is no single approach to the management of Central Auditory Processing Disorders (CAPD), this new book offers the latest available information on a variety of compatible approaches. It is based on the 1996 conference of the same title that was hosted by the State University of New York at Buffalo (where the co-authors are based). Each chapter is by a different authoritative contributor-a professional in audiology, speech-language pathology, or psychology. The book contains both technical details and practical, straightforward information to enable people to make proper and useful recommendations for those with CAPD. Features include: Coverage of metacognitive and metalinguistic approaches, memory and attention processing deficits, the use of FM devices for audiologic management, and a speech-language approach; detailed explanation of the management strategies suggested in the Buffalo Model; Innovative approaches and management techniques for special populationsInformation on auditory integration therapy for children, and a new interactive software program that strengthens temporal processing.Audiologists, speech-language pathologists, psychologists, special-education teachers, and even parents. 4-0 out of 5 stars Central Auditory Processing Mostly Management
While this book is clinical in nature, it is very helpful to the lay person in understanding different types of auditory processing problems and what their effects are on individuals. There are many different types of graphs, plates, tables and figures which assist in understanding different types of behavior and management and some crossover to ADHD and why. The diagnosis is better understood along with the various auditory therapies available and necessary to assist in training a person deficient in certain processing areas. The authors do a good job in explaining the tests for CAPD and what the evaluation results are based on.There is also an excellent reference list after each particular section for further reading based upon these authors' research, etc. There are many strategies for success for individuals with CAPD; this book covers so many questions from the neuroscience to evaluation to the relationship to specific learning problems to treatment and management. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A clinician's handbook: from novice to tutor
Of the growing number of texts in dysphagia management, this books still holds its own. "Manual of dysphagia assessment..." achieves the balance of focus (on specific methods of assessment) and breadth (of clinician level of skill and interest). In the current climate of demand for instrumental assessment, the clinical swallow exam is justly covered in detail, from social and medical history, to areas only recently receiving recognition for their importance, such as oral hygiene.
The clinical swallow exam, videofluoroscopic and laryngoscopic swallow evals are covered thoroughly. Each section can be read/referred to in isolation. Where I think this book is really useful is that the major swallow assessments are together in one compact volume; presented in a manner that makes comparison much easier than in some texts. The manual is written in a format that is equally useful propped up beside me in clinic or as a reference for teaching. There are many citations to research although critical appraisal of these works is left to the reader.
The structured assessment presentation is great for both the novice and experienced practitioner. Although there is a wealth of information, this is far from a dry text; it is written by a practicing speech-language pathologist with obvious experience. You can see he actually knows what a patient looks like. Mr Murray details those points we all like to think we remember in our daily work and a few we might never have thought of. I avidly read this book as a novice and I'm still referring to it some years later as a tutor! ... Read more
