5-0 out of 5 stars Nursing Student
Excellent prep and supplement text for patho class. This text was recommended to me by a past grad and I use it during notes review and while READING.
Do yourself a favor and get this. It seems to be the quick resource for patho, manifestation, and rec treatment and evaluation.
Good luck,

4-0 out of 5 stars A nurnsing student's time saver
When writing care plans for nursing clinicals, this book is a real time saver. You can quickly find information on virtually every major condition in simple, straight forward terms. If a particualar disease or illness has special implications or maniffestations for a specific population, like geriatric or puberty, special consideration is given. At the end of each chapter a bibliography lists other sources which could be used for additional research. The book is broken down into 21 chapters each dealing with a specific system or function of the body. Each chapter then gives a basic overview of the system followed by the different pathophysiological concepts which apply to that system, followed by conditions of the disease or injury. This structure makes review of a particular disease or injury simple and straight forward. An excellent index combined with great information makes this a great resource for brushing up on pathophysiology as well as writing out nursing care plans for clinicals. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!
This is a great textbook - a fun, readable format for a topic that could very easily be really dry. Other texts I have used in continuing my nursing studies have paled in comparison to this one, which I used in my first course, A&P. Nothing can live up to this. Good job!

5-0 out of 5 stars the Human Body in Health and Illness
The format of this book is easy to understand...it makes a sometimes difficult subject fun! Students from a variety of academic backgrounds will find this book helpful...it is written with all students in mind. Students with high level academic skills are lead into additional exercises where their skills are challenged. Our college has used this book to train Massage Therapists. We found this text and the study guide perfect for body workers training out of the traditional academic A&P setting. There is an emphasis on providing information regarding contraindications which these students must know in order for them to work effectively with a variety of clients. I highly recommend this book for faculty looking for an Anatomy & Physiology text which addresses classes with multiple academic levels and styles. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Get a copy of this book if you really want to understand cardiovascular physiology or if you just have the sligthest interest in this subject! If just Levick would write a textbook covering the entire physiologic curriculum...... The book is very thorough but excitingly interesting:-) The essentials of the Frank-Starling mechanism is summarised through a 4-verse rhyme!

Pros:
-This book covers the core essentials as well as details you will not find in your ordinary textbook.
-This book has a incredibly easy to understand and exciding chapter regarding ECG.
-Levick writes in a keep it simple stupid kind of way.
-It has the right figures (read 2nd ed.)
-It integrates and summarises histology as well as physics in a "ohh, thats why I have to know this" way.

Cons:
-You will have to buy a textbook og physiology beside this.
-If you just want to pass your exam and do not have interest in this subject you will probably be better of with your ordinary textbook.

All in all. Buy this book or somehow get the chapters covering the essential CV-physiology. They are better than Rhoades & Tanner, Ganong.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to a difficult topic

4-0 out of 5 stars All you need to know is here
This is a one stop book. Renal physiology and Acid-Base Balance is explained in detail and in simple terms. Author provides various scenarios for each condition. Implications of each change in renal physiology is described in many occasions.book is divided into four section and after brief introduction major part of the book is about regulation of water and electrolyte and best part is the final chapter where acid-base disorders are explained with physiologic concepts. Relatively thick book on a single subject and therefore coverage is very good yet it is it is very easy to read and understand.Another good part is that each chapter has few questions and you can check yourself with answers provided at the end of the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Review of How the Kidney Works
This book describes renal physiology and the regulation of water and electrolyte balance and then reviews various disorders of the above. The author takes a difficult subject and puts it into simple terms and gives excellent examples of the clinical implication of various renal physiologic mechanisms. There are several problems and solutions for each disorder, and these are also helpful in solidifying knowledge. The detail and physiology probably make this book most suitable for clinical and research fellows in nephrology but medical students and residents would find it useful as well. The price makes the book a real value given the amount of excellent information the book contains. ... Read more

Book Description

Modelling the genesis and propagation of electrical activity in the heart in quantitative terms is one of the most important recent applications of mathematical modelling in biology. The main research direction, and the most important for biological and medical applications, is the development of realistic models of electrical activity in cardiac tissue and the whole mammalian heart. Recent progress in nonlinear dynamics, advances in computer technology and experiments on cardiac tissue have made feasible the construction of such models. Computational Biology of the Heart is the first book to provide a comprehensive survey of recent research together with a systematic overview of the subject. The contributions, all written by experts in the different areas of the subject, cover all main aspects of whole heart modelling: from excitation in single cells, to two and three dimensional models of cardiac tissue and the whole heart. Various computational models and techniques are described and then applied to reconstruct and visualise modelled activity in both normal and pathological heart tissues. The models are nonlinear and use techniques of ordinary differential equations, partial differential equations and eikonal equations. The book also provides a review of modelling cardiac contraction, mapping electrical activity from electrocardiograms, and recent experimental observations of wave propagation in the whole heart. Graduate students and researchers in such areas as applied mathematical biology, clinical physiology and cardiology will find this book to be an invaluable resource for their work. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bone Biology
This book is an encyclopedic and thorough survery of normal bone, bone biology, formation, and remodeling. Clincial aspects of bone are also covered in great detail. For a volume this size with multiple authors, the book maintains a uniformly high standard. The illustrations are excellent and color plates are used where necessary. While one plate in Chapter 17 was to go in Chapter 18, it is a minor point. The chapters on the hormonal control of bone remodelling and the discussion of the process of remodelling were particularly interesting and well done. For graduate students or physicians interested in bone biology, the volume is a must! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great quick reference for the pics!
As a Pathology resident, I love this book. When I'm reading in Robbins and a picture isn't given for an entity, or I want to see more, and bigger, examples of something, I just flip this book open. It isn't meant to be a stand alone text, but the pics are awesome and are a great supplement to any text.

3-0 out of 5 stars plenty images, too clearly text
Milikowski et Berman's Atlas has a lot of full-coloured images(over 1000 images!), taken at microscopic level. Although every image has text for explanation, it is so simply written(20-30 words) that it is not easy for me, a beginner at histo-pathology, to understand well. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly boring!
This entire series of "Incredibly Easy" books should be called "Incredibly Boring"! I've found all of them to be useless in keeping my attention or in helping me to remember. There is nothing memorable about anything in these books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful book!!!!
This book helped me get through Pathophysiology. When you are learning about Fluids and Electrolytes, it really breaks it down into an easier to understand format. The quizzes and questions at the end of the book are also helpful. They do not only give you the correct answer but also tell you why it is correct. I would reccommend it to any nursing student, even if your program does not require Patho!

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have for nursing students!
This book is a must have for nursing students! Makes fluid and electrolytes easy to understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great For Nursing Students!
I read this book over my summer break from nursing school and found it very helpful. It is easy to follow and you will be amazed at how interesting fluids and electrolytes can be! It made everything "click"

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
I am an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and ACLS Experienced Provider (ACLS-EP) Instructor and use this book in my classes. It is a great book to teach electrolytes, and is very clear. I am also an Excelsior student, and this book was essential for Nursing Concepts 2 test. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND purchasing this book if you plan on taking NC2 or ACLS-EP. If you are ever confused about why you have electrolytes infusing, this book is clear and to the point. ... Read more
