Book Description

The rising number of incidences of melanoma has led to increased interest in the disease from diagnostic, management, and basic science perspectives. The Melanocytic Proliferation describes the pathobiology of pigmented melanocytic lesions, and provides guidelines for their diagnosis and management as they affect the skin and mucosas.
Extensively illustrated, this book is divided into four parts: the biology of melanocytes and malignant melanoma; nonmelanocytic lesions (e.g., lentigo, congenital nevi, compound nevi); melanocytic lesions with the potential to develop as melanoma (e.g., dysplastic nevi); and malignant melanoma (e.g., radial and vertical growth phases). Offering extensive discussions of each lesion, The Melanocytic Proliferation covers clinical applications, histology, differential diagnostic features, diagnostic algorithms, immunohistochemistry, electromicroscopy, and, where applicable, treatment, prognosis, and adjuvant therapy.
The Melanocytic Proliferation is an excellent and indispensable resource for dermatologists, pathologists, dermapathologists, and surgical pathologists.

This is the final text and content book to read after tackling Champe's Biochem, Costanzo's Physiol., Katzung,Lehvinson, et alia. If you are wondering how the pathophysiology principles you are studying will apply to real life patients, Blueprints Notes & Cases - Pathophysiology: Renal, Hematology and Oncology has just what you need – basic science concepts tied to clinical cases!

This book offers high-yield, concise basic science content presented in a logical template. Each topic features a case presentation followed by thought questions and a basic science review. Thumbnails and key points provide a quick review of the essential information. Multiple-choice questions at the end of each case allow you to test your knowledge.

Use during your coursework to aid in understanding application of principles, then review again as you prep for exams.

Students love this new book:

These cases are very in-depth, which is excellent for Step 1 review. The complexity is just right because it covers the information tested on the boards. … This is by far the best review book I have seen, and I have seen a lot of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars The points you might otherwise miss
Anyone studying physiology has gone through the frustration of learning some complex pathway, but never understanding its significance. Physiology Secrets steps up that understanding by posing questions about many of the big points that are often missed. The question and answer format is wonderful for sparking thought on each subject, and the concise yet detailed answers give students what they need to assess their level of understanding. It's too dense a book to read all at once, but is excellent to use while studying a particular organ system or mechanism.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
With the help of this book, I went from failing physiology to "honoring" every physiology test since. I can't stress enough how much Physiology Secrets helped out. It's like having your own personal tutor asking you key questions and then explaining the answers completely and clearly. If I were a professor of Physiology, I would make this required reading. Too bad, this book is now out of print. Try to get your copy while you can.

5-0 out of 5 stars Physiology secrets is both quick and textbook-detailed.
This book does a great job of presenting the core material of medical physiology along with some subtle nuances that most students do not have time to learn. I would recomend this book to any medical students that want to master physiological medicine without wasting time or missing the relevance of the material to clinical practice.
Excelent, as quick as a review book, but as detailed as a textbook. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A keeper
As a Physician Assistant student, I'm overwhelmed with many other poorly written books. I keep refering to this book to make sense of the many other subjects (such as labs and diseases) that I'm grappling with. This book does not "dumb down" the material, but rather presents it as it should be presented, thorough but to-the-point. I'm very impressed with this book and it's authors.

5-0 out of 5 stars The book on Pathophysiology
"Essentials of Pathophysiology; Concepts and Applications for Health Care Professionals" is a very detailed and informative book. The authors of this book did an excellent job of explaining the pathophysiology of all major organ systems as well as what occurs in the body during disease processes. This book has excellent pictoral charts illustrating the exact mechanisms in which our body works. This book is a very quick read, and is very understandable. In comparison to other pathophysiology books I have looked at, this one seems the most inderstandable by far (due to the many different ways in which the authors try to get their point across to the reader). I would strongly recommend this book for anyone interested in learning more about Pathophysiology. ... Read more

Book Description

The history of high-altitude physiology and medicine is such a rich and colorful topic that it is surprising that no one has undertaken a comprehensive account before. There are so many interesting ramifications from the early balloonists to the various high-altitude expeditions, culminating in the great saga of climbing Mount Everest without supplementary oxygen. Underpinning this variety of areas is the basic biological challenge of hypoxia and how humans and other organisms adapt to it. This topic is of key importance in several areas of medicine including pulmonology, critical care, anesthesiology and cardiology, but it is also of general interest to many other life sciences such as biology and ecology, because hypoxia is encountered by many organisms throughout the animal kingdom.

The book covers the topic from its earliest beginnings with the Greeks to the last two or three years. The coverage is very broad with special sections devoted, for example, to China, Japan, India and Russia. The book is profusely illustrated with 185 illustrations and includes over 800 references. Three appendixes cover the chronology of main events, databases of high-altitude publications and tables of high-altitude locations, and there is a list of classical books on high-altitude physiology and medicine. Along with narratives of some of the classical explorations and high-altitude expeditions, the book is a comprehensive reference text which should be valuable to everyone interested in high altitude and hypoxia generally. ...
