5-0 out of 5 stars Pharmacotherapy is a must buy book for every pharmacist
Pharmacotherapy: a pathophysiological approach is a book designed specifically for pharmacists. It covers a wide range of diseases and includes introductory chapters covering different subjects in the pharmacy practice from clinical pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, pharmacoeconomics, evidence-based medicine and much more. Every chapter introduce the pathophysiology of the disease relevant to drug therapy, then the full management plan is evoqued with the clinical use of the different drugs. I recommend to read in parallel `Applied Therapeutics: the clinical use of drug `to see how the management is applied in clinical settings. In second term, one can practice with the cases of the Pharmacotherapy: a patient focused approach before applying to real life cases.
I know i will continue to use these books as long as i still phamacist.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pharmacotherapy not pharmacology
Addressing the negative comments given to this book by a Dr. Doctor who's going to become yet another doctor, if you truly have your PhD and PharmD (from a halfway decent school), you would recognize the difference between pharmacology and pharmacotherapy. It's awfully troubling if you don't. In agreement with the "triDoc", Goodman and Gillman's is the superior of the 2... in terms of PHARMACOLOGY. However, if you want a very good reference for a practical approach in the treatment options of certain disease states (i.e. PHARMACOTHERAPY), this book should be your choice. It's a wonderful and much used reference. I will agree with another reviewer in that it may be worthwhile to check into buying the hand book addition first (due to its more compact size and less cost). Pharmacotherapy versus pharmacology...Hmmmmmm.

1-0 out of 5 stars Probably the Worst Pharmacy Text I've Ever Seen
Being a Ph.D.,Pharm.D., and now in medical school, I have seen a lot of texts in the realm of pharmacology and pharmacy practice. This book is really bad. The pathophysiology is weak at best and the authors apparently felt that the pharmacology (MOA's, etc.)where not worth elaborating on. They seem to have skimmed on the "pharm" part. Unfortunately this book is the primary textbook used at a lot of pharmacy schools... if you are a pharm student, you are much better off buying Goodman and Gillman's! It will be much more useful resource throughout your career. It will also be a better study resource for exams and seminars. If you're a med student, run for your life! This book will do nothing for you. I regret buying this book and feel it is not worth the price.

In Addendum: I concur with my fellow OH reader but, as any book with the prefix, "pharm" should have been addressed. When all is said and done, as pharmacists, that is the root of our practice and knowledge. G & G does a better job at therapeutics anyway. Save your money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Reference
As a pharmacy student, I found this to be an excellent reference - it covers an incredibly wide variety of topics in fantastic detail. However, the book is a little too wordy and detailed to get the overall grasp of a subject if you are covering it for the first time. But if you just need to look up that certain drug, side effect, condition or other similar information this is the book for you! There are great summary and comparison charts, easy to follow headings and a great index.

3-0 out of 5 stars skip this and get the HANDbook instead
This is probably a good book, but you will never really know because you won't read it. Too verbose, hard to cross-reference when studying for exams and boards. Skip this book and get the Handbook by the same people and save some money and a backache to boot. My textbook is gathering dust on my bookshelf in my mother's house while my handbook has been a great reference. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for Certification Review
This book has everything that you need to pass the certification exam. Prescriptions, filling, labelling, record keeping, OSHA, computers and law are all covered thoroughly. There are also chapters on pharmacology and ten chapters on math [the book covers almost every type of dosage calculation very thorougly]. Everything is explained exceptionally well, and is easy to understand. Review questions at the end of each chapter are asked, answered, and explained in detail, so that you understand how to answer questions and do the calculations for the exam. It explains "why", and helps you to understand and apply the information. Each chapter has a "quick study" guide for easy reviewing. There is a "pre-test" to help prioritize study and pinpoint weak points, and a mock certification exam, which follows the format of the exam, and includes questions very similar to the questions appearing on the exam. Helpful hints for taking the exam and answering questions are also included. This book is a must, especially for retail techs [a lot of hospital pharmacy is included], and particularly for understanding the math.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST for pharmacy certification exam review
This text is an excellent review text. It is written for persons all levels of experience - quick study guides allow the student to skip what he or she is already familiar with, and detailed chapters are included for those who are not familiar with subjects. Questions or problems at the end of each chapter are answered in detail, to allow the student to see what the examiner is looking for and hopefully duplicate it for the exam, rather than simply designating the correct answer and leaving the student to guess why their answer was incorrect. This is really key, as a large part of the success on the exam is understanding what the question is asking and what the examiner wants to know.

Other salient features include a pre-test, to allow the student to pinpoint weaknesses and prioritize study, a sample certification exam, which is written to duplicate the exam in both style and content, and a very large and detailed section on pharmacy math, which includes every type of calculation which might appear on the exam, and as a practice math test. Since the lack of ability to solve math problems is a primary reason why students fail the exam, this is an excellent preparation aid. The text also teaches the student to think and understand, which is necessary for the exam, as it is not all regurgitation of material - you have to know how to USE and apply the material.

All relevant subjects are covered and discussed in detail. An excellent buy for the money, for students of pharmacy technology - and expecially for technicians trained in a retail pharmacy who may be lacking in hospital pharmacy.

This text could even be used as for a pharmacy technology quick study course, or self study course as it is quite complete.

4-0 out of 5 stars Typos don't help
This book is a must for all future technicians. It has a few noticable typos that don't help but can be overloooked for the quantity of information and excellent outline of the book. I would recommend this book to anyone that's looking to get in a career as a pharmacy technician, just pay attention to the questions and their answers since this publisher could not afford to proof-read.

2-0 out of 5 stars too many errors in math
I bought this book (2004 edition) on the advice found in other reviews in this section. Like others, I have never worked in a pharmacy, have a tech-industry background that is going nowhere in this economy, and decided to pursue the medical industry which I've always been interested in. My first step was to go for the Pharm Tech Certification, so I bought this book to prepare for the exam. I do believe it helped with the general pharmacy practice and with the pharmacology and law sections, but I had to go out and purchase a second book on pharmacy math because of all the errors and inconsistencies in the math section of this book. There are errors in several of the examples, in many of the practice questions at the end of each chapter, and even in the sample tests, many of them quite blatantly wrong while others can only be determined wrong if you are strong in math, and it was too confusing. It appears nobody proofed the math section of this book before publishing. It cost me another $40 for a secondary book to review the math and learn the formulas. Since the sections on pharmacology and law are completely new to me, I was not able to determine if there were errors in those sections, but the math section DID leave me wondering if other things were wrong, too. I basically lost my confidence in this book. As a result, I decided to also purchase another study guide by another author as a backup. These errors cost me nearly $100 in further purchases!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Just took the Pharm. Tech. Cert. Exam
(2nd edition). This book was good but had the potential to be an exceptional one-source study guide for the PTCExam if it wasn't for the mathematical errors, typos, etc. On one math question, the variables were different between the question and the answer/explanation (The question wanted you to fill an order for 0.5g of a drug from a supply of 200mg /5ml solution. The answer was based on 0.75mg of drug from a 250mg /5ml supply). This was frustrating at times, especially since I purchased this book primarily for the math review.

The book is laid out very well, and covers quite a lot of information. It is pretty up to date on state and fed. regulations such as the April 2003 HIPAA revisions.

It's too bad it wasn't proof read very well. Overall, this book is still a usefull study guide for the exam as long as you look out for the mathematical errors. With this book's help, I do believe (and hope!) I passed the exam. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Drug Guide!
I am a 3rd semester nursing student and I absolutely love this drug guide. I have used others before, but this one is the best. It has the best IV drug administration info. It has side effects listed as the most life threatening in bold, and the most frequent in underlines. That makes it easy to wade through all of the possible side effects to the most likely and the most threatening that you may need to know for patient care and, of course, when getting quized by clinical instructors :) When my friends can't find a drug or a detail about administration they always ask for my book or my PDA (i have this version on my PDA also). This is the best drug book I have seen; it also has nursing diagnoses and great patient teaching instructions.

4-0 out of 5 stars Davis's Drug guide report from the field
Im currently a RN student and many of the students in my class including myself use this book. I've actually used 3 different brands but this book stands above all. It lets the reader know important points about the drugs and does not confuse as some of the other books have done w/elaborate terminology. Davis keeps it simple and its well designed. Software isn't bad as well but I find myself using the book more often when I look up the drugs.

3-0 out of 5 stars Getting out of date every day - Not a Mac CD
I use this in nursing school and am finding a new edition is needed. Many new drugs commonly used are not in this eighth edition. I also am disappointed that they advertise the CD rom as Windows or Mac - clearly not usable in the Macintosh. :(

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the only drug book you will need
I have bought four different drug books since I began nursing school ...I sold the other three after I started using this one.
The disc is great for finding information for clinicals....and plan on keeping it after I graduate....well done!

5-0 out of 5 stars Keep this with you while administering meds to clients.
I teach nursing, and this DAVIS Drug Guide for Nurses is a must-have for all my students as they learn how to professionally administer medications to their clients.
All nurses should have a convenient system to use when the occasion arises that a nurse gives a medication that they are unfamilair with...I found that this DAVIS Guide is a quick and easy way to investigate the medication, it's indications, contraindications, nursing considerations and idiosyncrasies. Adverse reactions and normal dosing ranges are included for all medications .....
There is also caution advised to prevent medication errors....near misses are always preferred over real errors any day. How the heart skips a beat whenever that happens!
Nurses NEVER intend to make errors, and this book gives a cautionary tale in the beginning - to help professionals understand the grave seriousness of it all.
It's never too late to buy an informative drug guide, and here I recommend this book to ALL --- professional or not.
It's cruicial that all people who give medications or take them understand the actions of the medications comprehensively.
The more one knows the more choices they posses.
Before you pass the meds,
pass the DAVIS Drug Guide! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Practical Guide to Natural Medicines is better!
I'm a former practicing pharmacist, now a health promotion educator who must, for my lectures, keep up to date on the rapidly emerging information (peer reviewed research & commercial publications, internet, etc.) about medicinals, vitamins, minerals, supplements, herbs, natural remedies, etc. available to public with and without a prescription. My goal is to ferret out fact from fiction. I believe THE AMERICAN PHARMACEUTICAL ASSOCIATION PRACTICAL GUIDE TO NATURAL MEDICINES is a MUCH BETTER (a FIVE star) resource--especially since it's a 1999 publication that cites sources including German monographs that are basis of PDR. The description of APA Guide, on Amazon.com, does not do this book justice. Once I got PRACTICAL GUIDE TO NATURAL MEDICINES I no longer used PDR.

5-0 out of 5 stars PDR for Herbal Medicines
I just received this book. I'm a family physician and I get lot of questions about herbal products. This is the most comprehensive and up-to-date reference source on herbal medicines. I found infromation on new interactions between St. John Wort and cyclosporine, AIDS drugs, and others. I would strongly recommend other physicians to get this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buyers beware on this one.
This was published by Medical Economics and no author is listed. If you're a true herbalist, expect this book to be slanted to the drug cartel's viewpoint.

Andrew Bentley (Alfalfa and Buckwheat) aptly pointed out that info is left out and it says some data is not available, but it is.

Jerry Cott in his review points out their report on St. John's Wort. Do you really think this was not done on purpose? Imagine the dollars lost if people stopped taking the drugs that this herb will sometimes help.

Be sure to read what the pharmacist said. I applaud you as your lively hood depends on this type of manipulation of the truth.

Buyers beware on this one if you want the truth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Herbal Reference
This is the most complete reference for herbal medicines that I have seen.It contains many common names as well as Latin names. Being a Certified Pharmacy Technician for 15 years this is a must have. There are probably 100 questions a month on what the side effects and interactions are of various herbal medicines. It is an invaluable reference guide for all pharmacies!

5-0 out of 5 stars Pdr has produced a benchmark!
Haven previosuly used herbal medicines, and being an inqusitive person by nature, I simply had to examine this reference work, i.e., PDR for Herbal Medicines (1st Ed). What Pdr has accomplished is no small feat. They have taken the most used and common herbal medecines and put them all in one vollume. Want to find out about St. Johns Wort and its effects and side effects. Then this source is the right answer and it will supply the answer. The picture section all the herbs is a nice addition and the latin names for these herbs is a bonus. Highly Recommended. ... Read more

Book Description

Amalgam Illness: Diagnosis and Treatment starts with a detailed explanation of why to consider amalgam illness to be something that some people must have by comparing the well known statistics for how much mercury people absorb from their fillings to the well known statistics of how sensitive different members of a population are to a given toxin. This is for people who really don't know if they believe in amalgam illness or not (the other material available is rather sensational and I can't blame anyone reading it for having questions) before going any further.

Amalgam Illness: Diagnosis and Treatment discusses how to deal with physicians if you think you have a controversial disease - especially if you have the great "luck" to be covered by a managed care plan.

A key section is devoted to diagnosis - how to tell if you actually have amalgam illness instead of something else. It is also possible to be mercury poisoned from something other than amalgam, and the testing and examination described here is diagnostic regardless of the source.

How to get the dental work done safely if you have decided amalgam fillings are the problem is briefly described - there is a robust industry of amalgam free dentists if you know how to look for them.

The use of drugs and nutritional supplements to get the mercury out of your system is carefully presented - there are some important factors here that are not well described in the previous books on the subject and not all physicians who claim they know what to do actually give good advice.

Then comes what turns out to be the major section of the book - how to treat all the related health conditions amalgam illness can cause so as to relieve them while mercury detoxification proceeds. Since amalgam illness is not widely recognized in the medical community, most people with it get pretty sick before they get motivated to bounce around between doctors and eventually end up in front of one who tells them about it. So most victims have pretty serious, unpleasant health problems (like fibromyalgia or severe allergies) and they really need to make these STOP for the year or two it can take to get fully detoxed and let your body heal.

There are extensive tables of what to use for different conditions, a description of all the drugs and nutritional supplements suggested in the book, and appendices covering things like what the assorted clinical laboratory tests you might get actually mean, what other helpful books are that you might use, and supporting information like what the chelating agents are and how they work. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Amalgam Illness, Diagnosis and Treatment : What You Can Do t
Until I got a hold of Dr. Cutler's book, trying to help my son had been like working in the dark. I had long suspected heavy metal toxicity to be involved in my son's autism diagnosis, but my concerns had been quickly dismissed by well-meaning doctors who found no evidence of poisoning using what I later learned from Dr. Cutler were inaccurate diagnostic methods. Years of fruitless searching and thousands of dollars in medical bills, medications and travelling expenses had brought about disappointingly less progress than we had hoped for.

I'd gotten to the point where I felt I was running out of time and options to help my vaccine-injured child. Lacking the background necessary to evaluate doctors' interpretations and recommendations and investing in the endless list of costly and what turned out to be mostly useless lab tests was becoming very frustrating. Dr. Cutler's book gave me the straightforward, scientifically-based, practical information I needed to properly diagnose my son's mercury poisoning and make educated decisions for his treatment. Learning to trust Andy implicity was inevitable when his insight proved to be right time and time again. His book not only helped me to determine the most accurate therapies for my son, but just as importantly, to avoid the potentially dangerous ones as well. The pieces of the puzzle had finally started to fit together.

Dr. Cutler's book is empowering and inspiring. The amazing amount of formidaly comprehensive information, detailed protocols and painstakingly well organized cross referencing made it possible for me to confidently work alone or with minimal support from doctors in treating my child. We achieved more progress in my son in a few months than we had in all the previous years combined. I am forever indebted to Dr. Cutler. His gift has placed my son on the verge of recovery and I trust we will succeed in time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amalgam Illness:Everything you need to know
Amalgam Illness, Diagnosis and Treatment by Andrew Cutler is by far and away the best book on this subject I have read. It not only directs one in making this difficult diagnosis but clearly explains how mercury causes multiple abnormalities in the chemistry of the body. I especially liked the coverage of the effects of mercury on the endocrine system. Mercury's multiple deleterious effects on the body are covered here as are the means to treat this condition. Dr. Cutler explains which treatment strategies are likely to work and which could make the patient worse. The supplements and medications likely to be helpful in treating amalgam illness are clearly enunciated as are the steps those poisoned with mercury need to take to retake control of their lives. At a time when so many people suffer from fatigue, malaise, depression, and diseases of unknown origin for which no specific cause can be pinpointed, the possibility that heavy metal poisoning may be related to their medical conditions needs consideration. With the controversy regarding mercury effects on health coming to the forefront, Dr. Cutler's clear and concise book on the adverse effects of mercury is especially timely. It has detailed descriptions of chemistry and physiology making it valuable reading for the clinician and layman alike. It is well-referenced with excellent diagrams. I would highly recommend it to anyone trying to gain an understanding of the far reaching effects of mercury on the human body.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential knowledge
As so many have eloquently stated in their reviews, I, too, have found this book to be a literal life saver. I've had it since it first came out, and have given it to at least five medical doctors/health practitioners and recommended it to a number of others. I regret not having been one of the first to recommend it; however, I can now relate that I use it as a reference over and over, deepening my understanding of the many aspects of the mercury problems. This knowledge is key to my healing.

The first thing I learned from Andy was to stand my ground with top allopathic and complementary physicians regarding my need for both Armour thyroid, and hydrocortisone, due to the mercury related pituitary problem, (despite their "tests"). So much of his protocol has been so helpful.

I deeply appreciate Andy's generosity of time and effort, to share his knowledge through the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amalgam Illness - a review
Amalgam Illness explained to me what many doctors were unable to about my failing health. These doctors had failed me miserably with only a grim diagnosis and no cause or cure.

Andy Cutler's book convinced me of something I had suspected: that my silver amalgams in my mouth were making me sick. His description of symptoms of mercury toxicity are thorough and were overwhelmingly familiar to me. His understanding of this devastating condition could only be this clear to someone who has lived this nightmare. With his knowledge of body chemistry, he is able to tell the reader how to diagnose a mercury problem and what to do to get well.

After 15 years of chronic pain and illness, I now have the information I need to be proactive in getting well. I have recently had all the amalgam from my teeth safely removed. I have already seen improvements in several areas concerning my health. These improvements have come without even beginning the detox procedure. I know that I will see more improvements as I begin that process.

This book has put my body and brain back on the road to good health.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book that may save your brain and body.
I have taken Andy Cutler with me on vacation for the past 3 years. Well, not the actual Dr. Cutler, but his book. Whenever my busy life permits, I submerge myself in this book. I pour over it. I study it. I try to make sense of it. Perhaps the reason that it is taking me so long to actually understand it is that I have a mouth full of amalgams, and have had immeasurable exposure to pesticides and fertilizers. I am TOXIC as a waste dump. It is hard to learn, function, and live; but Andy Cutler understands that, since it was, and is, a part of his personal experience.

Thank you, Andy, for applying your intelligence and research acumen to writing this book. It's worthy of study, and a powerful tool to share with friends and health care providers, at least the ones with open minds and a willingness to learn. Thanks for your MAJOR contribution to restoring the health of those of us with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, Autism, ADHD, and all the rest of us who are the canaries in the coal mine.

I'm looking forward to the 2nd edition of this text, as my copy is quite dog-eared and mangled. I am hopeful that you will update and expand your book, and thank you for rattling the cages of the establishment on OUR behalf.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is the exhaustive complete work!
This book has been recommended by pharmacists to those of us who need a complete drug reference. It is exhaustive and comprehensive in its utility as a drug reference. If you've got to have a complete guide for your hospital or office, this is it.

Now you may be thinking does this compete with the PDR?

Whereas the PDR looks like a bunch of drug packaging inserts (which is fine if that's the way you want to look stuff up, I do it that way all the time) Drug Facts and Comparisons is about as complete as it comes.

If you want a pocket reference, there are others. But if you need a comprehensive, definitive, gold standard reference...This is it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Quite outdated.
Perhaps I didn't do my homework so I'll take responsibility, but I didn't realize that this book was so old when I purchased it. It was recommended to me by an acquaintance so I purchased it blindly. It is a very old edition therefore somewhat obsolete. I do, however, like the concept and it would be a good book should it be updated to include medications that have come into the picture in the last 5-10 years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Informative, Every doctor should have one.
My Mother suffered several strokes, so was on all types of medicines. In many instances, we helped to keep her from further complications by asking the Doctors if this pill or that would interact and create problems. We never let on that we had been advised through Worst Pills, Best Pills that it could create problems. The Doctors then took the time to look up the crossing of drugs and concurred and prescribed something less invasive. They kept their "in charge" feeling and we were comfortable knowing we weren't allowing a bigger problem to take place through drug interaction. As the last update was 1993, do you anticipate a newer edition to keep pace with the new drugs on the market?

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY INFORMATIVE
ITS GOOD TO HAVE INFORMATION AT HAND. BECAUSE DOCTORS DON'T ALWAYS TAKE THE TIME TO EXPLAIN TO YOU ABOUT THE MIDICATION YOU HAVE TO TAKE.

5-0 out of 5 stars As a primary caregiver this book is a valuable resource
I am the primary caregiver of my 86 year old mother-in-law. She was dangerously over-medicated. Since using this book as a ready reference she has been taken off some eight medications that she should have never been taking. I am, with the help of this book trying to get her off two more medications that are causing her serious side effects. This book is a very valuable resource and should be on every bookshelf at home and at the doctors office. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Jane Williams has accomplished the impossible!
I posted the following message on Amazon shortly after receiving my job offer. I have reviewed the new 6th Edition of the Insider's Guide... and have found that Jane Williams has accomplished the impossible. She has improved a book that already had fantastic information. The new book contains 150 pharmaceutical sales questions and answers! As a current pharmaceutical sales representative, I feel that this is the absolute best book on the market for anyone wanting to gain a pharmaceutical sales position.

Wow! What a great book! I have landed a fantastic pharmaceutical sales job with one of the top five companies thanks to the Insider's Guide and the coaching I received from Jane and staff at Principle Publications.

I couldn't have made it through the tough interviews without the guide. All of the questions and answers about how to handle the physicians who turn you down during a sales call, to why they should hire you over someone with sales experience, to how to "sell the product", etc. were all covered in detail in the book with examples! This "saved" me during my interviews, especially during the last and most difficult interview. I feel like I was asked most of the 78 questions and answers covered by the book during my five interviews.

Without my career comparison document and sales binder that I prepared by using the Insider's Guide I am certain that I could not have passed the interviews. Jane deserves a medal for this writing this book! I choose this book because it is the #1 selling book in its class on Amazon.com. There's a reason why it's #1...it's the best book on the market!...

5-0 out of 5 stars By far the best book on the market !
Jane, thanks for writing the best book on the market and helping me gain the best-paying position I've ever had! Thanks for teaching me not only what a pharmaceutical sales rep does but for teaching me how to think and respond like a rep! That made the difference for me during my interviews.

I was surprised that the pharmaceutical company who hired me would ask so many questions that relate directly to what a pharmaceutical sales representative does, but they did just that. When I read all the questions and answers in the "Insider's Guide..." I thought that surely no one could be expected to know this much information about the pharmaceutical sales industry, but they do expect you to know the information. Fortunately for me, I was prepared!

The Insider's Guide was by far the most comprehensive guide that I purchased and contained the most relevant information for passing the interviews. To all of the aspiring pharmaceutical sales reps, my advice is to purchase this guide and then follow Jane's instructions to the letter. Even if you have a degree in English like me, you too could beat out the competition and win the pharmaceutical sales position!

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is the bomb!!!
Okay people, I bought the book 3 months ago, and I must say it is the bomb!!! I have no sales experience, but this book guided me step by step. It even gives you various scenarios with various answers. It is outstanding for a newcomer to the industry. Take heed and get the book!! I wanted the newest edition, but it hadn't come out yet and I was desperate to begin my research. I had 2 interviews with the same company--I was referred by my pharmaceutical sales rep friend--and I believe they went well. I am waiting to proceed to the next step, which is with the district manager. Needless to say, I was overly prepared. The binder the book suggests you put together totally "WOWED" the interviewer. 2 words...THE BOMB!

5-0 out of 5 stars New Pharmaceutical Sales Representative!
What a superior career guide! After looking at several books, I found Ms. Williams' Insider's Guide... and used it to prepare for a pharmaceutical sales career. Three weeks after buying the guide, I have a job with Pfizer!! There is no way that I could have prepared for those FIVE interviews without the Insider's Guide... I wasn't surprised by a single interview question. This book is the best investment I've ever made. I can't recommend it enough to anyone who wants a career in pharmaceutical sales.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic!
As a professional sales consultant, I am always looking for books that I can utilize as a consultant. The new 7th Edition of the "Insider's Guide..." is absolutely fantastic! This book offers excellent advice on networking, the pharmaceutical industry and the new physician call guidelines for pharmaceutical sales representatives, understanding the interview process, using personality profiling to your advantage, 150 specific detailed pharmaceutical sales interview questions and answers as well as major pharmaceutical company profiles and contract sales organizations contact information.

The book is very well written, professionally edited, and reflects the author's credibility. It is easy to see why this book is being utilized by college and university sales and marketing professors for their sales and marketing courses and special sales classes. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another fantastic book by Dr. Stoelting!
I must agree with Dr. Alqasaim; this book is excellent. Diagrams are well-done, as are the chapters - en tota.

The book has two distinct sections. The first half of the book is dedicated to the subject of pharmachology, and the second, physiology. This is not a large broad-based text.

Additionally, this is not a book to take the place of the old basic science "stand-by's" like Goodman & Gilman's, or Guyton. However, this book is highly useful for review in those aforesaid subjects, as related to the practice of Anesthesiology.

Absolutely well thought-out and executed.

A must-have for your home/office medical library.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Basic Information
I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of this book, as I have high expectations of a book from Dr. Stoelting. However, I found that this book contains only basic information. It is good for a quick reference, but if you are looking for in-depth information about a specific topic, you will have to look elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT! FINALLY THE TRUTH IS TOLD!
Dr. Blaylock, in his book reviews countless studies that prove the dangers of excitotoxins. The powerful food industry and others are implicated in trying to cover up this truth.

I have read this book and am very grateful that an M.D. went against the grain and helped a nation understand the truth. The truth that excitotoxins are dangerous, they kill neurons and are in practically everything.

In science today there exists ubiquitous politics. Those who fund studies wish a certain outcome, and usually get it with the help of exclusionary interpretation. If science is the study of truth through empirical studies, and political power covers this truth, then today's science is largely a matter of power and politics, and not truth. This is how the large part of society is deceived. This is the case with the FDA's widespread approval of aspartame (and aspartate/aspartic acid for that matter).

Because of their widespread use and acceptance in America; it begs the question, what's the agenda here? If you wanted to dumb down (make docile) a large population of people how would you do it?

"The truth is obvious, everything else is questionable"

4-0 out of 5 stars Clear evidence of the dangers of MSG & Aspartame to children
Blaylock writes a story of brain damage and betrayal worthy of wide attention, especially among women of child-bearing age and parents. He presents clear evidence of severe damage to the hypothalamus, the regulator of most hormone systems, when glutamates and aspartates are ingested by pregnant and nursing women or by children. The relationship between low blood sugar levels and enhanced damage should be a wakeup call for diabetics and hypoglycemics, as well. This book is a bit of a slow read at first, but you have to understand some of the basic enzyme/neuron processes to grasp the tremendous potential for damage. Every parent should read this and take it to heart. The future of our children is truly endangered!

4-0 out of 5 stars good to know
I'm thinking of that song by Joe Jackson with the line "Everything causes cancer, everything..."

While I do not subscribe to the usual alarmist perspectives on what causes us harm (for there are truly so many things in modern society practically unavoidable, that it would make one insane to dwell on it), it is refreshing to experience a work that intelligently places blame on the not so usual suspects.

Governments that have profited for years on tobacco and foods that are engineered with questionable tactics are still pushing forward this notion that it is only illegal drugs and foods (and not the FDA variety) that are harmful.

Just as preaching about the so-called evils of marijuana only made more kids go out and do a variety of drugs - because they knew they were being lied to - it is "high time" to start learning the facts about the products commonly accepted as "safe." This way, you can once again circumvent the propaganda and make decisions for yourself.

You are what you eat.

5-0 out of 5 stars scary
This book is excellent and should be read by anyone who cares about their health, but especially (future)parents who care about their children's brain health. Before I read this book I was one of the many people within this and other societies that had no clue that a lot of our food contains msg. Not only that, but this book also showed me how serious msg is and that although it is dangerous and trials have shown this dangers, nothing has been done about banning the substance from the food market. This book is very shocking, at least it was to me. The most shocking thing I learned is that msg is even used in babyfood, even though they are especially suceptable, because their brain has still a lot of growing to do. This book also tied in with one of my college research papers and so I got the chance to research the topic further and the most important information I came across, was that all trials that were done independately found somekind of a healthconcern, whereas trials done by the FDA and corporations didn't find any health concerns. So even if you don't buy this book, look out for aspartame and glutamates (for example: monosodium glutamate)or it might cost you your memory later on.

2-0 out of 5 stars Useful although narrow
This book is mostly about links between MSG and Alzheimers/Parkinson's. It goes into a lot of scientific detail about prior studies, brain function, etc.

Unfortunately, I was already sold onto the idea that MSG etc are bad substances, so most of the book was irrelevant to me. I was looking for ways to find foods that are MSG free. In that pursuit, only the last 2 pages of the book help: list of common names of MSG or MSG-containing substances on food labels. The book was not practically useless, therefore.

While reading this book, please realize that MSG and NutraSweet are not the only problematic food additives. There are preservatives like BHT etc added to foods esp meats, and those are also suspected to have negative health effects. Yet this book does not discuss them (maybe they are not exactly neuro-exciters).

Overall, could be good reading for some, but I found minimal use of this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Big applause!
This book is crucial to the life of a medical transcriptionist.Updated annually, as the world of pharmaceuticals changes on an ongoing basis, Saunders has the king of drug word books. They cross-reference medications, list info for the generic and brand name drugs under each (e.g. "acetominophen" and "Tylenol" with same info) to minimize double-lookup, unlike the so-called "Quick Look Drug Book."Experimental drugs and discontinued products are listed together with the rest, so one does not have to access a separate appendix.Strengths of dosage (20 mg, 40 mg, etc.) are given, generics are not capitalized, etc., all critical info for an MT.Also included is a "sound-alike" list as well as "sound-alike" info within each individual entry, which often is very helpful. There are other similar publications out there and I've tried several, but Saunders is clearly the best IMO for the transcriptionist's needs. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars You will learn much here to keep you growing for years
If growers do not learn something new from every page in this book then they have slept through it. Every single section I have read has something new for me. This book really is that good. The layout is done like a growing plant. There is a list of good referrals for potent seeds in the back sections. The text is authoritative and does not go off topic. Many readers may find this too scientific but if you are a grower then you will know how important this science is. It will not teach you how to get a green thumb but it will give everything you need to know about cannabis and how to grow it. I recommend it for the attention to detail and procedure type descriptions. A very professional marijuana book to own.

5-0 out of 5 stars A grow book from a good grower
This is a grow book from a good grower. That is really all you need to know because there is nothing else like that if you have done your research right. The Cannabis Bible reads and looks like a proper book. If you have been sick of reading books that are strung together by bad binding or look self published then do not let that put you off this one. This is a very different book to those. This book reads and looks like a proper growing manual and the bulk of the work is dedicated to growing. This book is a very big book but big on the information. Point to any page, line or passage at random and learn something new about cannabis. It is like that. This book does not beat about the bush and instead shows you how to grow great bushes. If there is any book you want to read then this is the book that you really want. Why settle for anything less than a grow book from a grower for growers who want to grow.

On closing this review I leave a link to what I produced using this book. http://buddyman.iwarp.com/buddyman.htm

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I got sick and tired of buying an oz every month, so I decided that I would roll up my sleeves and turn my thumbs green. I bought a professionally built grow cabinet with a Turbo Tank and a 400watt HPS. I searched local bookstores, but none carry any books of this nature, so I turned to Amazon. Anyway, the book is great! I was a first time grower, with little knowledge about the marihuana cultivation. The book contains very detailed information regarding the different growing processes. From seed germination all the way to cooking recipes are in this book. I would HIGHly recommend this book to a first time grower! Growing was the easiest thing I have ever done!

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book for people who have an interest
This book is simply amazing. Green supplies all the facts a new grower needs to turn out a successful crop. I purchased this book only as a reference, and it has boosted my knowledge about the cultivation of cannabis, and about the plant itself. If you are looking for an easy to read, informative book about Cannabis, than this book is for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars I prefer this book
This is the newest cannabis grow book with the latest information. The deep hydroponics chapter was what I really needed to read the most but beside that I also learned much more. This book also has outdoor growing, so it is not just an indoor book. It is now the most used in my marijuana book collection and I would direct anyone to try this book out before anything else.
