5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Simply Lands Jobs!
Great book gives you all the insider information that you need to get the job of your dreams. I am in the final interview process with the regional manager and couldn't be happier. I loved the book and used all of the knowledge from it to get by my first 5 interviews with a breeze. Great book, low price, can't beat it. Thanks Lisa for all the help!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book & Even Greater Service
Prior to reading this book I felt I had a very good idea of what landing a pharmaceutical job would take. After reading the book I quickly realized that I may have been giving myself a bit too much credit. The Manger Surveys, sample interview questions, brag book suggestions, and follow-up chapters are the one's I found most informative. This book definitely taught me techniques that will help me stand out from the crowd both before and after securing an interview.

The service provided by Lisa Alexander and her staff have also been excellent. I have e-mailed Lisa and her staff approximately four times since completing the book and have received a reply within 24 hours every time. The questions she has answered and tips she has offered me via e-mail alone are worth the $29.95 I paid for the book.

I definitely recommend this book to anyone that is serious about entering the Pharmaceutical Sales Industry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most comprehensive and encouraging resource you will find
After too many job rejections, I was about to give up- PharmRepSelect was recommended to me by the Manager that interviewed me but did not offer me the job- He knew it would help my interview performance. It did , every page is filled with practical, sound usable advice. The examples and stories are so clear that I was able to immediately see what I could do better on my next interview. I am now in the industry and recommend this book to anyone that is discouraged. PharmRepSelect will keep you from giving up and increase your chances tenfold of getting the job offer.

1-0 out of 5 stars no help at all
This book won't help you much at all. There's nothing in here you won't find in some of the other books that have much more to offer. I also bought the cd, it sounds like something a high school speech class put together.
When you buy the book and cd together, you're supposed to be able to e-mail questions to the author directly. I tried that and never heard back from her even once. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice book, but with mistakes
As a new nursing student I have found this book very useful. There is a very comprehensive introduction which allows the student to relearn some of the math skills that may have been lost over the year. I also really like the fact that the book comes with a removable laminated card with conversions on it. I'm sure that this will come in quite handy when I begin my clinicals.
My only real complaint is that I have found a couple of mistakes in the fifth edition. I found at least two mistake in the answers provided for the chapter review on apothecaries' measurements. I would recommend that the publisher check their material a little better so as to prevent confusion for students.

That is a really good book for the beginer of toxicologist. However, there are many errors existed and those errors could mislead and confuse the beginer. I think that we'd better wait for next editions.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very complete book about biomedical/environmental tox
Mr. Klassen did a very good job with the sixth edition of the classical Casarett and Doull`s. This is not a book for people scared of details, complex subjects and very long chapters. The book is not what I would call an easy read but I don't think that it should be anyway. Chapters cover diverse topics in a very complete manner, and as another reviewer said this is a book intended for advanced undergraduate courses or graduate toxicology courses. Only buy this book (which by the way is pretty expensive) if you intend to do research or work directly with toxicology. One final note, this is not a book oriented for the clinical setting. If you are a MD or health professional intending to use a book in the toxicological ER you should buy Goldfrank's Toxicologic Emergencies (which is a great book by the way).

5-0 out of 5 stars TECHNICALLY CORRECT
This is a must have for the studying ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYST who is determined to KNOW HIS/HER HOMEWORK! As a reference book after course studies and during basic chemistry course fulfillment at the University level, this text is the "command level" of performance. One can not approach correction of injury without knowing the point source and characteristics of the contamination. KNOWING WHERE TO LOOK puts you half way there. The technically squemish need not open the cover. (this is a level 500-600 college textbook) ...textbook referred by chemist/scientist, William Martz

This textbook is largely considered the authority in Aerospace Medicine in the United States. If one wants to become familiar with Aerospace Medicine, they must read this text. It moves from history to the many aspects of medicine, which effect the aviator. It is fairly well written, and up-to-date. It is not written with just the FAA or any one military service in mind, but can be generalized to all. Space medicine is also covered. 2-0 out of 5 stars Not helpful
I used this book as a help while studying for a pharmacokinetics course in pharmacy school. I found it to be of little use for this purpose.

Reading one chapter to learn a concept was not helpful as there was little focus on important details, just a lot of little picky information that really wasn't necessary. And looking up one particular piece of information was even difficult as vague examples and rambling sentences made reading the entire chapter a must.

As a review tool, the problems at the ends of the chapters were not helpful, either. The problems went from too easy to fantastically difficult with no in between.

As a student this wasn't a helpful reference or study tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars Applied Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics
This book is fantastic! It is the fourth edition of the popular textbook on biopharmaceutics. The authors have maintained the excellent standards of previous editions, by clearly explaining the concepts while keeping mathematical derivations to a minimum. The "practical focus" sections show the application of pharmacokinetics in a clinical setting. A new chapter on targeted drug delivery and newer biotech drugs is very timely and relevant. Overall, this is an excellent book on biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics. It is recommended not only for the newcomer, but serves as a valuable reference in any library. ... Read more

Book Description

Americans have become so accustomed to following doctors' orders that many prescriptions, medical tests, and surgical procedures are accepted without question. This blind faith can be dangerous! Modern medicine offers us a wide range of powerful treatments for ailments large and small. But did you know that some common "cures" come with serious, life-threatening risks, or may do nothing at all? This book contains much more vital information you need to know to take charge of your health--before you see your doctor. Includes information on: cholesterol-lowering medications; high-strength asthma inhalers; steroids; antibiotics; and Ritalin.

Some startling facts you should know:

  • Some sholesterol-lowering medications can actually increase your chances of dying.

  • The rise in asthma deaths may be linked to high-strength inhalers.

  • In some cases, it's safer to do nothing than have surgery for prostate cancer.

  • Steroids, now widely prescribed for many minor conditions, can cause immediate, permanent, debilitating damage.

  • Bone scans to screen for osteoporosis are imprecise, often inaccurate, and may not signify anything.

  • In the overwhelming majority of cases, antibiotics are prescribed for conditions they cannot treat.

  • Ritalin, taken by as many as a million American children, has questionable benefits, numerous side effects, and a high potential for addiction or abuse.<

  • The U.S. Natinoal Institutes of Health estimate that 90% of patients who undergo bypass surgery receive almost no benefits.

  • and much more vital information you need to know--before you see your doctor.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too shrill and hysterical
As director of an organization concerned with medical error, I'm acutely aware of the hazards. There is some useful information in this book, but too much of the time it is over-the-top. The author latches onto dubious and lurid sources; anything that will bolster her thesis, no matter how questionable. It is impossible for the typical reader to sort out the credible information from the nonsense. The book is so extreme that it tends to discredit the effort to inform consumers about medical risks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read this before your next medical test or surgery!
From my own reading elsewhere plus less than positive experiences with modern medicine, this book rings true to me. It's very well documented with medical journal articles. Perhaps the most startling fact is that doctors discuss among themselves the dangers and ineffectiveness of much of modern medicine without changing their practices or informing the public -- maddening! I know from my own experience of the dangers of the overuse of antibiotics, just one of the areas McTaggart addresses. I'm suffering (now in my forties) for my family doctor's decision to put me on tetracycline for acne when I was a teenager. I think I was on it for a couple of years before getting my first vaginal yeast infection. Now I have chronic systemic candida (yeast) overgrowth and believe me it is tough to shake this. Who knows what other havoc is being wreaked by so-called wonder drugs? McTaggart tells you. Please read this and pass the word. Don't even consider surgery or a drug regimen without reading this book! ... Read more

Book Description

Many books cover the emergency response to chemical terrorism. But what happens after the initial crisis? Chlorine, phosgene, and mustard were used in World War I. Only years after the war were the long-term effects of these gases realized. In the 60s, 70s, and 80s, these and other agents were used in localized wars. Chemical Warfare Agents: Toxicity at Low Levels explores the long range effects of, protection against, and remedies for chemicals used during war and the chronic problems possibly resulting from toxic exposures during the Persian Gulf War.The book discusses the toxicities of chemical agents at low-levels. It focuses on the effects on military personnel after exposure to low levels of sarin - a chemical suspected to have been present during the Gulf War. It also covers factors such as stress, surrounding, and other chemicals that can enhance or decrease the toxicity of chemical warfare or protective agents. It discusses the effects of stress on the blood-brain permeability of pyrodostigmine and polar compounds, and describes how circulating scavenger enzymes or enzymes covalently bound to sponges can detoxify chemical agents.Acute toxicity is easy to observe and treat but low-level toxicity is difficult to identify - and can present and persist months and years after the initial exposure - making its treatment that much more difficult. Written by experts known for their contributions to the science of toxic chemicals, Chemical Warfare Agents: Toxicity at Low Levels gives you the latest information about the pathophysiology of chemical warfare agent injury at low concentrations. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book.
Great book. Don' stay home without it.

5-0 out of 5 stars There's no place like home
After experiencing numerous home accidents a friend of mine gave me this book and what a great book it is!
It is chocked full of useful advice. Here are a few tips of my own that I've learned over the years:
1. Never bring a plugged in radio into the bath with you.
2. If a substance has a skull and crossbones on it do NOT drink or other wise ingest.
3. If you have children don't leave toxic substances in areas that they have access to.
4. Don't use a fork to get that piece of burning toast out of the toaster.
5. Don't let the kids play spaceman with plastic dry-cleaning bags.
6. Never stick your hand in the garbage disposal.
7. Asbestos is bad for you.

There are many other similar suggestions in this book that most of us would never think of.
This sage advice is too late for me. I am no longer able to leave the house because of my hideous disfigurements, iron lung and inability to control my bowels. So I would recommend you get this book NOW before the only job you will be able to get involves traveling with a circus side show.

5-0 out of 5 stars Covers all important topics and a super resource book
This is a must book for every home! All areas of potential toxins are covered, and there is a huge index of resources of where to purchase healthy products, with phone numbers addresses and websites! I bought a lot of great products that I would never have known about this way, and I am very greatful for all the practical advice in the book. I never could pinpoint what was making me sick, but after reading this book, I didn't wonder "why" I had a headache after standing in a newly painted room, etc.!

I literally planned my house around the advice given in this book! On many subjects, different views are given, and you are left to weigh the pluses and minuses and decide for yourself. This book is easy to read, fascinating, and not at all preaching. The author is also not bound by any predisposition to follow any specific views (i.e. she is not completely conventional or completely alternative) and just presents the facts straightforwardly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Home Safe Home- A BIG help
I read this book when I moved into my new Northern California home because I wanted know that my 2 month old would not be exposed to harsh chemicals when I was cleaning my house. I found not only did this book make me feel safer when cleaning my home but, it made my entire family feel better. My husband and my five year old child, who both have allergies, stopped sneezing and coughing when I started to use the remedies from this book. I would highly recommend this book to everybody.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book that gives easy remedies.
I had no knowledge of all the toxins in my home, and while reading this book became appropriately horrified. This book is quite thourough. What makes this book excellent is that in the face of potentially overwhelmingly disheartening information, the author's solutions make changing your house easy and manageable. The author not only tells you what's dangerous and explains why, but then gives you practical advice on how to get along without that toxic product: what to substitue for it, and how to make or where to find the substitute. So, the reader can just make a list and, with a few phone calls and trips to various stores, can significantly reduce the levels of toxins in their home. And the options involve both making products or buying them, so if you are like me and want to live more safely but don't have time to create your own dishwashing liquid or furniture polish, you know where to buy them. I'm really glad I came upon this book and I highly recommend it. ... Read more

A lot of things that is normally covered in Physiology books are recalled here. Author also provides extensive links between different applications and explanations. Certainly book is written mainly for Nurses but from simple reading and explanations point of view it is very useful for everybody as a reference book.
I enjoyed reading every line of it. authors do not spare on any information to make it clear.

5-0 out of 5 stars extremely well written, helpful textbook
I have to say that this is one of the best text books I've ever had to buy! It's well written, well organized, and thoughtfully prepared. The author presents what might otherwise be very confusing and complicated ideas, and makes them straightforward and easy to understand. Best of all, I actually ENJOY reading this text. Yes, that's right, I enjoy reading about pharmacology! By making the concepts understandable, he makes the whole topic of drugs and their affects on the body interesting. What could be better than that?

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent foundation text
While the material is highly technical, it is presented in a clear, concise manner with excellent end of chapter summaries.
Substantial amounts of background information are presented to ensure a thorough understanding of the physiology of some body systems in order to permit a better understanding of how some medications work. Minimal molecular biology is included. Personally, I liked this text and will be keeping my copy for years to come.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it
I did not like this book because the answers are not available and my teacher is lazy and probably wouldn't give us the answers if we asked. I think it was a waste of money and good trees. I think this belongs in the trash along with all the other study guide books I have bought. On a side note, the main textbook is too big and heavy and I hate carrying it around. I think the type should be bigger or get rid of some of the content because when you are reading late at night it all runs together. I think that's enough ranting and raving so I will leave it at this my book is going to be out the window July 29 the day of my final. Good riddance!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have
The new 4th edition of this book just keeps getting better and has a great chapter on alternative drugs added for this edition. The authors strive to make the information understandable and meaningful. This book is actually good reading for student nurses through advance practice nurses. The new study guide is also an improvement along with the web enhanced materials. The science is first rate and the material makes sense. Priorities are defined for drugs using the prototype format which enhances learning of the really important material. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars great book if you want all the WRONG answers!
We used this book at my college for our math class. Did the publishers or editors actually read this book? In every chapter, and I mean literally, EVERY chapter, the example problems had typos in them. There were numbers in the calculations that even my math instructor could not figure out where they pulled it from. And don't bother to try to check your work with the answers in the back of the book... in every chapter, our class (and instructor) found at least 3 problems that had the incorrect answer listed in the back.
I would love to know how the people who have created this book (as this is the 8th edition) have managed to not have this book pulled and not used from schools due to the inconsistencies. It was a miracle that my class made it through this semester having to use this book.
I would not recommend it to anyone, except maybe an editor. ... Read more
